Just for clarification, this is mostly for roleplaying flavor. If you read my story (not yet complete) it tells the tale of a child abducted and made a slave and pack mule in the desert. He was saved by raiders and learned to channel his inner rage and thus became a Barbarian.

I am also placing more backstory into him finding a monk that sees an inner spark in him (thus I took the sacred touch trait, but not going to fully use it till second level) and have his conversion be throughout his first level of Barbarian.

My rationalization of this is him working through his inner rage and learning even more focus. Granted I did think about Raging Flurry of Blows (I would have called it my Iron Whirlwind Technique), and if it wasn't allowed I would use a feat slot in a home game as a 'technique' for the flavor, but since I can no longer rise in Barb levels, that is 5 rounds of Rage per day, that is it. No powers, no other special abilities. and a +2 to hit/damage for 5 rounds, well, its not really all that earth-shaking.

It looks like there will be no 'Official' word on this, as its left to the GMs discression, I will make sure to discuss my concept and classes before each game, dont want unecesary surprises. :) And with that, I think this forumn is done.

Unless of course you want to add a feat for monks to use Barb..... ahhh forget it :)

PS: thanks for the comments

PPS: its not about min/maxing the Barbarian and Monk together... as a real life martial artist, this one is more about ROLE play, even though I did mix/max with stats a bit :) this actually will lead to another post ...

I am working in the area of springfield, Ma and have a temp home in Northampton, Ma. I am looking to play some Society games, from 1st level and can work arround mon-thursday at night, as I go home on the weekends. I am scheduled to stay till the end of the month (march)

If no society, then a regular game I can sit in for a few weeks till I am shipped off to Ct would be VERY appreciated.

Might I suggest the name Jubna Panir?

Maybe, if I knew the translation. But I am going for Li Kiu 'The Black Whirlwind' from the 1500's chinese folktale of a raging hero :)

I am working on my concept for my character. He is a freed slave in Qadira tht was freed by raiders. He was young enough to be taken in and 'trained' as a barbarian. Then he was found by a 'Missionary' of sorts and tutored on other ways of self-enlightment. I am starting as NN and first level being Barbarian. At second level, I would be converted to LN and begin his trek in Monk levels.

I am making sure that this path I want to take is within the reules of society play.

In this case, it's less important if something said is offensive or not, and more important if the listener took offense when hearing it.

Unless one's goal is to give offense ... then we might want to analyze every word to death to inflict the maximum possible offense points per round. Somebody will inevitably make a spreadsheet. Others will begin threads about tiers of offense, and the threat to game balance at high volume levels. We'll all have a good time. :-)

I can understand where you are coming from. But being in the arts, I have a distaste for censorship. What people say, good or bad, brings about change. Without change we stagnate.

When meeting new people, I put on a mask, as almost all of us do, and judge people. We all have limitations, and this is uderstood, and we take precautions in social sitautions, no matter how anti-censorship I might be, I still censor myself. Why, because this is not just My Planet. I think all people have to realize this, take a step back, even if its just taking a breath before making a comment (I can see the importance of this). Just do not begin to tell me of how I should act, talk or interact with others.

Good quote as well, but coming from the Wisdom of the Owl, I shouldn't have been surprised.

First of all there are people on the boards that are not from the United States and these words may be far more insulting in their country than yours.

Because words such as retard and spaz hit close to home for those people that have disabilities or have loved ones and friends with disabilities. They are insulting to a person that did not choose to suffer through something terrible.

Using gay in the negative is reinforcing stereotypes it empowers people who commit acts of violence against gay members of our community.

The N word dehumanises a person it signifies they are fit for nothing but slavery or subjugation.

There are a few points:

1. Jokes are always funny, unless you are the butt of the joke, they WOOOOAAAHHH wait a minute, its not funny ...

2. Gay was 'Happy' a term of joy, as in: "A gay ole time". So they took a positive word and placed it on a group of people. The people are pretty much forcing a negative conitation to the word, not that there is one in and of itself. This is opposed to the term N$!!#&, that comes from Niggardly which is being ignorant, uneducated, which comes from a negative word from the beginning.

3. Working in Theatre in NYC, The largest proponent of those over the word 'Gay' are the non-homosexual people that have this internal guilt for something and feel the need to be outraged for others. I have yet to have any of my friends, or others homosexuals I meet and hang with think gay is negative.

3. This leads to the term Spik. Being a Puerto Rician, it took me about 30 years before I learned how this was used as derogatory. It was when the new people came to the states and when asked questions in English, they answered 'I cannot s#*#@ english' or some similar phrase. Interesting.

NOTE: this is not a retort to you, Dwarf, just about this whole thread.

I really think the 'White Guilt' drives so many people to become over-PC and make many people rush to be outraged at what they percieve is negative towards other people.

I make jokes about EVERYONE. My niece is part Polish and HATES it and I do not let up. Why, becuase it is funny. the jokes are meant for fun, not for meaness.

Most people alsos take things out of context. This is a big reason so many people are 'Taken Down' by the vocal minorty. Peolpe have to STOP! get all the Information, then react to things they hear, or assume people mean untill they get the full story. Mis-information is a MAJOR problem with percieving offensive behavior. The Big issue on message boards is that people read words, then 'PROJECT' their own meanings into the words. Sorry, but you cannot hear me say my words and ultimately, unless I explicitely explain what I mean when I say something, you really cannot make judgements. So try not to rush to judgements, do a little leg-work and get informed.

Informed people are the most dangerous/powerful people in the world.

Sorry is this sounds like a diatribe, but percieved rascism from peopel not actually involved in the situation is a pet peeve. That and I hate PETA, cause they love animals more then people :)

I prefer to support my local gaming shop. The people are very nice, they offer placed to play (for free) and it helps the community as well. We all should support our local game/hobby shops.

well, the 3 times I have gone to my local gaming store, its been sold out (campaign book), got lucky with the Core :)... thanks for the information... time to work on my nifty Monk maybe monk/fighter

The Exchange

I feel a bit lost, though I only own the core book so far... but can I get information as to the Temple Sword, where its found, what are the details? Being a Monk fan and martial artist, I definately will look into a sword flavored monk but could use the stats :)

By the PFS rules, there is no PvP allowed, and to me that includes interfering with the completion of faction missions and not just attacking another PC.

PVP and not working to help others goals are not the same thing. Not to me anyway. Completing the 'Faction' portions are not a requirement of the adventure and if I, as a player, find out what someone from another faction wants to do, if I choose NOT to do soemthing, then I am helping the othter faction and hindering my own.

Now this is on case by case situations as times are where I might not think one's faction's quest is something that opposes my own faction, so I might help, or if due to character actions, I feel I owe the character a debt, I would help and repay the debt. But I do not think hindering someone in completing the faction quest is PVP.

The feat allows you to demoralize instead of just make the enemy shaken.

I can find the shaken on conditions, I cannot find demoralize. (I assumed it was just the title of the skill necessary to facilitate the feat).

But thanks, I think the thing I missed was the diffrence in 1 target and all targets .. thanks again.

FEAT: Dazzling Display (Combat):

Your skill with your favored weapon can frighten enemies.

Prerequisite: Weapon Focus, proficiency with the selected weapon.

Benefit: While wielding the weapon in which you have Weapon Focus, you can perform a bewildering show of prowess as a full-round action. Make an Intimidate check to demoralize all foes within 30 feet who can see your display.

SKILL: Intimidate (Cha):

Demoralize

You can use this skill to cause your opponents to become shaken for a number of rounds. The DC of this check is equal to 10 + the target's Hit Dice + the target's Wisdom modifier. If you are successful, the target is shaken for one round. This duration increases by 1 round for every 5 by which you beat the DC. You can only threaten opponents in this way if they are within 30 feet and can clearly see and hear you.

---------------------------------------------------------------------
I am trying to figure out why I would take the feat if I could just use the skill check. The feat does not give bonuses, nor does it give any duration, which leads me to belive I should use the Intimidate timing of 1 round +1 round/5 above DC.

Can someone help me in figuring this out? Maybe there is an errata I missed?

Thanks

Wow. I seem to be late to the game. I have been out of RPing for the last few years due to real life situations, but have come back to seeing e4.0. I didnt even know about Pathfinder till a few weeks ago and I am glad someone took up the banner of the 'Old-Style-. Having been a player since my first red and blue book with the 3 holes in them I have always loved the diversity you can use to make yourself diffrent. I also am a writer and thought many times about writing short stories and novels, but this will definately help me bring 2 loves together and maybe even lead to more creative achievements in the future.

I will continue reading the forumns and looking over what is and is not soemthing to be placed and already have ideas based on my home universe and style of playing for a possible string of modules, which I hope would be acceptable and enjoyable for you all to play in.
