Zorestar approaches Sir Bronwyn one day. "Sir Bronwyn, I am most impressed with your stories of the defense of the nation against those two wyverns. That was a very clever use of the story to allay fears in the kingdom. However, I need to make it absolutely clear to you that the rumors of trolls to the south have persisted and that panic is still building through this nation. Your stories will only work for so long. I think this is a problem that you will not be able to ignore indefinitely."
"Yes, Zorestar, I will be of help as much as I can in the care and upbringing of our little girl." "I am most impressed, my Lord. I am impressed that someone of your stature and responsibility would take such a participatory role in the raising of Katerina. I would have thought that you would have left that task to a nanny." "So you probably have one going your way sooner or later. This seems as good a time as most to learn how to change a baby's smallclothes. Maybe you have a spell for that?" "Indeed a spell for the aroma would be most helpful. I am thinking of perhaps Gust of Wind. However, as I think about it, I am reminded of another spell that could make good use of the scent. There is a spell called Stinking Cloud that is so powerful that it can sometimes paralyze enemies within its noxious fumes."
"Well, Katerina is such a lovely name too. It seems very fitting. So does she have a nurse that will take care of her, or will that responsibility fall directly to you? Will Sir Bronwyn take care of some of the care?"
Foolish mage. So intelligent, yet so foolish. It is a girl, my daughter. She says this with a warm motherly look of mischief in her eyes. And while with your noble heritage, your family may have had sufficient money to buy special colored clothing for the children. But, I plan on dressing her in the colors of nature, beautiful greens and yellows. Look at this beautiful dress, it was given to me by the fey who live in the woods near here. Carina shows Zorestar a patterned dress of gold, green and yellow interwoven in the most intricate manner. "Oh my goodness! She sure is a beautiful one! Do you need assistance in coming up with a name for her? I gladly offer my insight into a variety of lovely names. For example, I wonder if she has the look of an Ezmerelda? It does have a name with the roots of emerald green, much like her fine green jumper."

Zorestar approaches Carina after the birth of her child and looks but does not touch. "Congratulations, my dear, Carina. It appears you have a fine healthy child. You too appear to be recovering well. Have you given the child a name? Without the proper clothing color coding of blue for boy and pink for girl, it is difficult for me to tell, but is the child a male or a female?"
Zorestar sits back stroking his beard as he listens to Loy Rezbin. Finally he sits forward and speaks. "Master Rezbin, I am Zorestar Lebeda, the Magister of Vertaria, and I have just a few questions for you. How strongly do you feel about educating the people of the land. Would you be willing to commit to schools, libraries, and teachers in your settlement?"
Zorestar smiles in great delight! "Splendid! Splendid!" He claps his hands! "Let us plan a wonderful gathering where our friends can celebrate with us and we can be joined together for the rest of our lives!"
Zorestar takes Alicia out to a secluded spot under a tree at the edge of the lake just outside of Evergreen. They sit for a while enjoying each others company, when Zorestar suddenly stands and says "Hmm? What is this in my pocket, my dear? I believe this is for you." Using his mage hand, Zorestar takes a golden gem encrusted ring (which he procured from a trader from Brevoy) and gently floats it over to Alicia. "My dearest Alicia. Will you accept this ring along with its many sides, as a symbol of my love for you. With it, I offer you my hand with a promise of holy matrimony, if you so desire my company for the rest of our lives?"
"Very well, Sir Greenwood. I will permit the statues, but kindly let's not a big deal about it. So where are you to place these sculptures. Are they to all be together in the square, or can I expect my own likeness to inhabit a corner of our library?"
"The rest of us will keep up our good work through the coming days. I'll just need each of you to take a couple days out of your routine to meet our master sculptor. He's to build a couple of statues and memorials to honor those killed by the beasts and commemorate our slaying of them." "I am not sure that I really deserve a statue of me in our capital. I mean, my contribution was rather trivial. I simply cast a flaming sphere and burned one of the dragons, but that was about all. In fact, I was able to do most of that from the safety of a nearby barn where I had plenty of cover. Perhaps we could get the master sculptor to make a wonderful likeness of my dear Alicia instead."
"Our greater reward are the the thrill of the hunt and the beasts' demise, Ganit. Our people can now sleep safely without the fear of these monsters swooping down from the sky and for that I'm grateful." "Indeed this is a great reward to bring about the beast's demise, but I am not sure that I would call this thrilling! I would much prefer to be back in my library with a good book to study." Zorestar will take the two Arcane Scrolls (Gaseous form & Ice storm).
"Indeed the offspring will clearly grow up and pose a problem for you in the distant future. Were any eggs found in the nest?"
Zorestar approaches Bronwyn and James after the battle and speaks to them. "Vipera cum alis. A most impressive foe and a victory that will go down in the history books. I am certain that this will go far for the citizens of Vertaris in giving them a sense of security in this land. Congratulations are due to both of you for a job well done." "I would be most interested in any scrolls found among the treasure horde. They would make for great additions to my library."
I start checking three to four times a day, but as I wait longer and longer, I find myself checking less frequently. Right now, I check about once a day. I am real busy at work as well, so I can be very patient.
I am waiting until the Wyverns are resolved before I post my next round.
Round 1 Zorestar peers out of the window of the barn at the wyverns, gives a deep sigh, and then begins pulling out bits of tallow, brimstone, and powdered iron out of his components pouch. Zorestar then moves his hands in somatic gestures to cast Flaming Sphere at the wyvern at K4.
"I would say that this little spell is ball of fire, but technically speaking it is actually more of a sphere!"
Zorestar will be hiding near an open window where he can get some cover and also cast spells.
"How quickly can you write a couple of scrolls? I need one of those protection spells that generates a magical armor and shield. I also mean to ask Jhod to say a prayer of protection to me before the fight. I will need every ounce of protection if I am to fight these beasts." "Well, let me see what I can do for you. It would take me a few hours to write out a spell for mage armor, but I would only be able to complete one spell each day and then I would need rest at the end of each day to get my spell back. So how many of these particular scrolls are you looking for? How much time do we have before we depart?"
When Zorestar reaches the meeting with all of the company, he wants a clarification and asks, "So where are we with your plan to deal with the wyvern? Do you propose involving the military, or do we want to try and handle this fiend on our own? Did you mention bear traps? You are probably aware of this, but a bear trap has a very low probability of working on a creature that flies through the air and has a distinctly different diet from a bear."
"Not in the slightest. But if you can find me a few really insulting expressions I can easily reproduce them well enough to really offend these flying lizards." "Well, I am not very good at insulting phrases, but I am good at translating. Hmm?" Zorestar strokes his beard for a minute and then replies, "Well if you really must learn one good phrase that will insult a wyvern, you should consider saying the line 'Vaša chvost vyzerá, že je väčšia, než vaše chudý mozgu'. Literally translated, this means, 'Your tail looks like it's bigger than your skinny little brain.' Obviously it is not going to like being accused of having a small brain, now will it? This will be an effective insult as long as he doesn't have a tail larger than eighteen feet in which case he may think that you have just made an obvious statement. Naturally, wyvern's with tails that our outside of the standard deviation would recognize that their tails are larger than their brain, unless of course their brain was already lower than the mean size of a wyvern brain, in which case, they may not think at all!"
"Nope. Go m'self." "As you wish, as you wish! Well, I bid you a splendid day, and I will inform Lord Greenwood of your intent to visit him. Oh and in an effort to avoid any confusion, you should be aware that that Bronwyn has renounced his name Raslov and has now adopted the name of Greenwood to further enhance the solidarity of this kingdom and its people. Being such a lover of trees and the woods, I was sure that you would approve of such a change. Well, fare well, good sir!" Zorestar departs from Telias's home and returns to the capital.
"Arrite." "So that means you'll do it?! Arrite! That's makes a relativie minimum of two of us! Splendid, splendid, I will go and inform Lord Raslov immediately. He will be delighted. Perhaps you should return to the Capital and speak with him yourself. I will happily to accompany you should you wish."
Zorestar makes his way to the house of Telias and as Bron requested, he will tell the hermit of the Wyvern attacks. "Well met, Telias. May I come in and talk with you? How are you faring these days? Are you enjoy the peace and quiet of the natural world? I have come with a concern that our Lord Raslov has asked me to bring to your attention. As a means of recapitulation, I will simply tell you that there have been reports of wyvern attacks on the river crossing. The beasts have the commerce of the nation in a chokehold and the armed forces are overmatched. Consequently, the Lord Raslov was hoping that you could join our old company and assist in the dispatching of said beasts."
Knowledge, Arcana "Zorestar, I need three things from you: First, I ask you that you can devise some sort of protective spell to shield Carina from harm. I do not mean to put our child at risk. Second, I need to contact Telias and let him know about this problem. I feel he might help us on this matter. Third, I need your expertise about these wyverns. What are their weaknesses? Their strenghts? Let us know everything." "We may certainly find some protective spells such as shield and such, but by no means will it guarantee he safety from a wyvern attack. You would need to ask her to stay here, but I doubt you will succeed at such a request. I will see what I can do about getting Telias' help. I am sure that he would be delighted to fight a great wyvern for you, my Lord." "And how can I offend its mother in that language?" "Well, the creature is basically a dragon, but not nearly as intelligent. Do you speak draconic at all, Lord Raslov?" "Wyverns are one of the least of the dragon types. They do not have the typical dragon breath weapon and are prone to attacking out of spite. They do have a poisonous tail which can cause death in but a few minutes if not treated. They prefer to rake their opponents with the sharp talons. As they do not like staying on the ground, I think that James and Donal's charges are likely to be less effective. However, making James, Bron or someone else larger with reach might be able to offset this raking." "You are quite correct, my lady, but you should also be aware that these creatures are quite big and can reach lengths of about sixteen feet. Also be aware that half of that length is a poisoned tail that weighs approximately 2,000 pounds. Furthermore, these creatures can see in the dark as well as low light and can even follow with a scent. They are deadly in air doing flyby attacks, whilst on the ground they lash out with their sting, bite and wings. Clearly this creature would make an excellent trophy when stuffed."
I would probably put the market in our capital city of Evergreen and maybe encourage Oleg to relocate in the city.
Maegar Varn smiles as he receives his compliments from his son-in-law.
"Do not worry. I understand how important edcation is. Otherwise, no one would be able to better themselves." he gives a big smile. "Thank you, Lord Varn! I promise you that these books will be put to good use. "However not all books are educational as there are many stories of heroes slaying demons and romances too." he laughs as he notices his daughter blush at the mention. "Your delightful daughter is such a romantic at heart! We are all very fortunate to have her around! You should have heard her harp playing at the Baron and Baroness' wedding. She plays with such passion and grace." "Are you willing to give your pledge as I have given to you?" When Zorestar has a moment alone with Lord Varn, he gives the lord his answer. "My dear Lord Varn. I have come to know your daughter over the last several months and I have become very fond of her as I believe she has become fond of me. I would graciously and kindly ask for your permission to marry your daughter. I promise that I would treat her kindly and faithfully as long as I shall live. Naturally, Alicia needs the freedom to choose for herself if she would like to spend the rest of her life as my partner, but I wanted to ask for your permission before I posed such a question to her. So in a brief recapitulation, my Lord, do I have your support in asking your daughter to accept my hand in holy matrimony?"
Zorestar enthusiastically smiles at Alicia's offer for books. "I cannot thank you enough for your father's generous offer. It is only through books and literature that we can educate our people and build a nation that we can all be very proud of." The wizard takes great delight in secretly holding Alicia's hand underneath the table and will return the affection with a loving gaze into her eyes. The day Alicia's father arrives, Zorestar is happy to return the fatherly hug as he thinks to himself that Lord Varn will make a kind and good father in law. "Lord Varn, I cannot thank you enough for this generous donation of books. We are now a good ways toward building a public library for all of the people. Without your support none of this would be possible."
"I do not doubt or deny it, lord Lebeda. But she knows her father's followers better than us and can anticipate their reactions. We need to come out of this meeting as fair but firm - not too agreeable but not too stingy. It goes almost without saying that this meeting will set the precedent for all our future dealings." "Very well, Sir Bron. I will endeavor to set the best precedent possible. As I reflect upon my own qualifications for this work, I cannot deny that Alicia is far more charming than me, and I will welcome her company in the appointed task." "And then we're off to work on our infrastructure. That means education for our children and security for our folk. Zorestar and Alicia, I need you both to start making contacts with booksellers so we'll be able to open our very own library and school in two months' time." "I am so glad to hear that you have heard my requests and you have considered my proposals seriously. I would be delighted to make contact with as many booksellers as possible. In truth, I cannot think of a finer place to get lost than in a bookstore! With this kind of support, I believe we will have one of the finest systems of education in all the land!"
"Zorestar and Alicia will head that convoy. Zorestar, you will negotiate fair prices but push to meet our demands, while Alicia smoothes any misunderstandings." "I have the perfect coach for that job and it would be my pleasure to do." The wizard replies. "But what do you mean by misunderstandings? I am very clear and precise in all of my communications."

I am good with role-playing interactions with other characters, but I am not clear where to even start when it comes to posting for an entire month. I am still here, but I am feeling a little lost at the moment.
When Zorestar is unable to find Ganit in his room he returns to wedding and tries to enjoy the atmosphere.
"Far to the south, but I have no perminant home. I travel and camp up and down these lands. I will probably head east to visit the settlements there, come back and then pass through to the west. I'd like to see what the other groups have planned for these lands." "Well, on behalf of our fledgling government, I welcome you to Vertaria and I hope you have a delightful stay." Zorestar will then proceed to Ganit's room. * Knock! Knock! * "Master Ganit! I know you are in there! It's me, Zorestar! May I come in?!"

"That is why I am wearing this." "Then I will be careful as I am sure you will. We most certainly do not want any unnecessary accidents to occur. Tell me, Tessara, and forgive me if you have already answered this questions, but what wood do you reside in? How far away do you live from here?"
"Well, this is a curious situation. Your environment has served you well, and you appear to have resisted the tendencies caused by your heritage. Now, please forgive me for asking so many questions, Tessara, but tell me, do you still retain the ability to turn others to stone?"
"Hmm? Very interesting." Zorestar replies as he strokes his beard. "This does bode well for welcoming you to our humble land. Now tell me, Tessara, are you at all in a similar position to the changeling where the mother hag summons back the daughter after the child reaches the age of ascension. I mean, have you ever sought out your mother or anticipated that she would come to visit you?"
She gives a small laugh "These wilds have been my home for some time. I have come for this special occassion to congratulate the two, before I return to the wilds." she states flatly, looking back to Ganit and then Zorestar again "I hope to be accepted one day here as a citizen, but until then I am happy to live in the wild. I am Tessara of the Wood and it is a pleasure to meet you Zorestar."[/b] she gives a smile as she offers her hand in a handshake. Zorestar cordially offers her a hand to shake. "Forgive me for the following questions, Mam, but I have not met one of your kind before. Although most people of the land fear the legendary Medusa, I am aware that they are not born evil. In fact I am aware that the environment has a much greater effect than simply the inherited coding of your ancestry. Tell me, Tessara, were you raised by your mother? I do not mean to offend you, but I am curious, how did you learn the customs of society? I have heard that only those young Medusa who separate themselves from their mothers retain a love for life? Can you ascertain for me if this is true?"
Zorestar immediately becomes aware of the presence of this medusa as soon as she lets down her hood and becomes seriously on edge at the sight. However, he approaches cautiously. "Well met, Madam. I am Zorestar Lebeda, the Magristrate of Vertaria. I do not believe we have met. What brings you to our country on this fine occassion? Do you perchance know the bride or groom?" DM Aron:

Perception Zorestar dresses in his finest garb and enjoys the moment. He spends most of his time at Alicia's side, always eager to hear her play. He does not pay much heed to the arrival of Tessara of the Wood. Perhaps he is distracted by the present company.
What, no Square Root of 3 by David Feinberg? I had actually read that one and was trying to find a way to make it work, but I found this other one instead that fit my purposes better.
Alicia laughs, but blushes too at this display of affection. She moves close and kisses him on the lips softly. Zorestar cherishes the tender moment and then blushes and smiles as the moment passes. "That was so cute of you Zore." she smiles and looks him deep in the eyes "It was a little cheesey, but I think it's adorable." "You are so kind to me, Alicia. I love the fact that I can be myself around you. Yes, perhaps it was a little silly, but I cannot help myself when I feel the way I do. Speaking of love, I spoke with Carina and Bron and they would be delighted if you played your harp at their wedding. Would you be willing to play for the prelude as well as the processional and recessional? I always love the opportunity to hear you play."

After listening to Bron's advice, Zorestar goes back to his office to compose his poetry to present to Alicia. Once evening after a lovely dinner, the wizard presents his poem to Alicia. "Alicia, my darling, I wish to express how I feel about you, but I have borrowed some of my mathematics to assist in this endeavor. Please forgive me if this does not come across clearly, but know that in my heart it is true." Zorestar clears his throat and proclaims, U plus me together equals forever. Me minus you equals never.
Zorestar bows and then waits to see how Alicia reacts.
A tavern is just a little bit more respectable. People need a place to gather, socialize, and perform. That is civilized!
"Hmm? I like this idea! I have heard that poetry is a mostly mathematics and rhyme. I suppose this is very similar to music. Hmm?" Zorestar considers as he strokes his beard. "Tell me, Bron, what are the arithmetic rules that I need to follow to create a love poem? I presume I must use an appropriate number of syllables arranged in a correct order. This sounds like a very exciting challenge to embark upon." |
