Zinthar finally pulls himself to his feet, dust and blood mixing together on his robes. He whips around wand at the ready as Iatzu appears but quickly realizes this is not another threat. He returns the wand to its wrist sheath then casts a short spell (Detect Magic).

The wizard scans the bodies of the fallen as he moves to help drag their comrades into the beds as Rose suggests.

A steady stream of curses comes from the elven wizard, still trapped on the ground after his desperate play to clear the path and still at the mercy of the fly creature above him.

Well, this might not have been my best plan....

Down on the ground, yet still not a difficult target for the insect creature, Zinthar finds himself in a difficult predicament. Knowing that standing up is a huge risk with this insect in his face the elf does the only thing we can do and raises his wand again.

can you activate a wand from prone? not finding anything that says you can't,, and since MM doesnt require a hit roll......

Up front the wizard has a clear view of the situation, which while getting better is still not yet without risk. Zinthar takes a step back, points the wand and fires two more bolts. The arcane energy streaks through the gap between the aasimar and Dakang to strike at the corrupted leader.

"Finish it!" he shouts over his shoulder to the gunslinger behind him before dropping to the floor to give Karthan a clear shot.

ive got a touch attack spell with a held charge since I missed last round, thought that was considered 'armed' for threatening/AOOs? Could be wrong on that......

but if the corner and Dakang dont allow me to threaten the aasimar then I would have tried and definitely failed to hit Dakang. Unless of course i need to retcon the entire thing based on the potential AOO ruling.

Any chance Karthan or I get an AOO on the aasimar that bolted down the hallway to wake up Dakang? We were threatening...

If the scene were not so dire it would almost be comical: the wizard stands next to his bleeding comrade looking first to Karthan, then to the fiery spell still held in his hand, then to Karthan again. Deciding that while the gunslinger is not in a good way things will get worse for all of them if they do not end this combat quickly, Zinthar moves down the hallway as well to engage the aasimar again. Good way to get yourself killed, this. The need is too desperate, I cannot waste the arcane energies.......

Another loud curse in elvish as yet again he is unable to land a blow to deliver the spell.

Perception Check: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12 don't have Heal, but can I tell by looking whether Karthan is all dead or only mostly dead?
Touch Attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11 Im assuming that still misses the wounded aasimar's touch AC?

"I AM TRYING!" Whether because of the chaos of battle or the new ringing in his ears Zinthar's reply is shouted much more loudly than needed. Again the wizard finds himself faced with a creature directly in front of him only this time his options are even more limited.

Unable to fire off another spell that might help Ealasaid Zinthar instead focuses on more pressing matters. Again taking a defensive stance as he casts, his hand is again engulfed in fiery energy. This time he ignores the rod and simply reaches out to touch the beast. Unable to solidly connect with the aasimar he at least moves out of Karthan's way with his flaming hand still at the ready for another attempt.

The evoker does his best to keep a level head as the warped creatures begin knocking through walls to get at them, although it certainly gets harder as one of them comes right up to engage him. A quick breath is all it takes to realize that there are simply too many players on the battlefield.

Taking care to not present his attacker with any openings to exploit Zinthar begins casting. He reaches down to touch a rod held at his belt as he begins the incantation, one of the earliest ones he learned. Remembering that the creatures are aasimar he makes a minor change to the casting to convert its normal electrical nature to something that can more easily get through the aasimar's natural protection: fire.

Once complete, Zinthar focuses the arcane energy through the rod, allowing him to throw the energy across the hallway to strike at the same creature his missiles struck already. He then attempts to retreat down the hallway but not cautiously enough.....

Cast Defensively to avoid AOO, Cast Shocking Gasp using Versatile Evocation to convert it to fire damage, use Reach metamagic rod to cast it at range. Then move south.

K. Planes: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20 to know 'shocking' isnt the best choice

YIKES, that was close! im guessing its not the cantrip 'ray of frost', just a ray that happens to look frosty? And also just realized I could move my own token (duh) so will have to act next round on that movement I described above...

It only takes a quick glance to see that their enemy is in far and away the better tactical position, especially with their companion standing dazed in the doorway. Not willing to risk friendly fire Zinthar saves the spells at his disposal and instead points the wand already in his hand. "Pull her out of there!" he shouts and two bolts of light streak from the wand to strike the warped aasimar. The bolts are still in the air when he begins backpedaling to make room for the hasty retreat that is clearly necessary.

Zinthar sees the uncertainty in the eyes of the monks around them and realized it is time to act quickly before things get messy in this narrow hallway.

"Break the door down!" he shouts to the woman warrior as with a flick of the wrist he brings his wand to bear.

"Lets be reasonable" he says to the two acolytes at the back of the group. "Let us show you the truth and no one else needs to get hurt....."

Zinthar nods his agreement. "Perhaps. But that will make them no less aggressive if they feel they need to protect their leader. So....."

With a flick of his wrist a wand suddenly appears in his hand. As the others move to force the trap door the wizard keeps his attention focused on the guards, ready to retaliate if necessary.

what about some fiery cantrip? Not enough? Enlarge Person increases your weight 8 times, would 1 enlarged barbarian do the trick.......?

"Then pay our 'hosts' a visit. If they wanted us all in this chamber, this attack was probably the reason. And it is a safe bet that Kazmuk is meeting a similar welcome in the crypt."

The elf cracks his knuckles loudly. "Once we check on the dwarf, we should find a few monks and start asking questions."

Zinthar mutters a quick incantation and is surrounded by a brief flash of white light before moving toward the door.

Zinthar's face breaks into a grim smile as if to say finally!. His combat reflexes kick in as he takes a step back, stowing his spellbook as he does so, before falling into the rhythmic chanting of spellcasting. As he finishes he points a single finger at the same spider Karthan stuck. An arc of searing flame shoots from the finger, striking the beast, then spreading to also engulf the other two as well.

Zinthar spends the time reading through his spell book. Whether he is simply continuing his studies or planning which spells he will need to blast their way out of this place is not quite clear.

Zinthar barely takes his eyes off Dakang as the man talks, almost as if trying to will the man to reveal something be shear force of will. As the decision is reached he looks to Kazmuk. He shakes his head in frustration.

"I can increase your natural agility but only for a brief time, probably not long enough to last as you complete your study. Unfortunately I have very little else to aid you if you go in alone."

I can hit you with a 10min Cats Grace just as you enter....but I have to imagine youre going to be down there longer than that...

Zinthar is content to let Rose lead the conversation with the prophet for the moment. The wizard has never been much for subtlety so is fairly certain he would stick his foot in his mouth almost immediately.

But there are some questions I would love to see how he answers.....

Zinthar raises his arm, showing the monk the entwined fire and lighting tattoo. "Apologies, but I am already marked so I humbly decline."

This place gets stranger and stranger the longer we stay here. Curious.....

The entire situation in the garden is a bit much for Zinthar. The wizard was raised amongst elves, true enough, but wild nature was never his strong suit. Looking around at the overgrowth he cannot even begin to imagine how many hours of work it would take to clear the place enough to complete their task.

Then Rose and the halfling begin talking about the statue and the ritual and his curiosity is piqued again. As the woman attempts the ritual herself Zinthar quickly whispers an incantation to study any auras that might reveal themselves.

Not standing right on standing right on top of the two of them, but near enough to detect magic and watch the turtle while Rose performs the ritual.

Zinthar continues to examine everything they pass, hoping to get more clues into the mysteries of this place by looking for inconsistencies in what were led to expect versus what they see.

Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7 or not
If possible, he would also discretely be casting detect magic as often as possible to look for auras also.

Zinthar rolls his shoulders to work out the kinks after hours hunched over the library's scrolls and tomes. Normally he would revel in this type of work, searching through the knowledge of the ancients, but the group had quickly learned that these books asked more questions than they answered.

"A deliberate deception, alter the teachings to create a group that follows one entity in name but another entity in deed? To what end? And if this temple, this entire demi-plane, was given as a gift...was the gift corrupted later, or was the gift itself corrupt from the start?"

"I am beginning to think two days is no where near enough time to solve all of this........."

The elf crosses his arms across his chest and gives Rose a stern look. "Perhaps we need to step back and regroup on our strategy. I'm fairly certain if the Society wanted you to do this entire mission yourself they would not have sent the rest of us along, so let us make sure we are pooling our resources and working together to get this done."

"There is quite a bit of experience here in many different areas of expertise. We would be foolish to not leverage all of it."

He turns to Ealasaid. "And I agree, one step at a time. Let us deal with this mystery first." I am the voice of reason? How Father would laugh.....

"Divide and conquer seems the best way to get this done, Kazmuk." Zinthar's curiosity is certainly piqued both by the condition of the library as well as the condition of the works themselves. "And the sooner we uncover some truths about this place the better. Master Zey said this temple was gifted to Hao Jin 'centuries ago'. Based on the state of disrepair this place looks like it might be that old, but Iatzu talked of arriving 40 years ago."

He pauses thoughtfully. "Any chance they are trapped in some kind of stasis, repeating the same moments over and over without aging? Or....some kind of undead state?"

Zinthar looks around the library again. "Let us finish in here quickly. I cannot imagine that the answers we seek are going to be here."

The wizard cannot help but be pleased with how well things are moving along. With Rose's notes complete they are one step closer to completing their mission but no closer to solving the mystery of this place and its inhabitants. As they prepare to move on to the library Zinthar refocuses his attention on the group and their surroundings.

I keep getting posts half-typed and the game moves on!

As the conversation takes a sour turn Zinthar casually flexes his wrist to ensure that the springstheath is ready. Do not be hasty, this is getting difficult enough.

He sighs in relief as Rose is able to turn things back around. While the library piques his curiosity also it is not enough to openly disagree with Rose in front of the monks. United we stand....

Zinthar is content to remain off to the side. He cannot help but admire the way Rose guides the conversation and their host to reveal information they need as well as plant seeds for future asks, and he is loathe to disrupt the flow of her efforts.

Instead he keeps his eyes on the other monks to gauge their reactions to what is happening around them.

Zinthar nods his agreement with the gunslinger just as Rose makes her comment. "I do not have much experience with illusions, but I do know they can affect the body if the mind lets them."

As Rose starts talking to the woman Zinthat takes a tentative step forward to just behind her left shoulder, attention focused on the halfling work, looking for inconsistencies between what he sees and what he expects, lack of sounds, anything that might indicate that the halfling may not be what she seems.

Seeing the carved spheres and the spindle, Zinthar moves carefully along the wall toward the southernmost sphere. Muttering a quick incantation, he squats down to get a closer look at it without touching the sphere.

Zinthar stays toward the center of the group as they examine their new surroundings, turning his head back and forth as if trying to watch all of them at once. He stays silent but observant, taking it all in as they come to realize they are trapped here for at least two days. He mentally catalogs his supplies with an eye toward conservation and careful use.

As they pass through the temple gates the elf pauses a moment and considers his protective spells. Best to wait a bit longer, I only have the one prepared.

"Any preference to which door we try first?"

Zinthar listens to what the Master outline the mission and is immediately filled with concern. Not exactly the type of mission I have trained for.

The elf looks almost as much warrior as wizard with a longsword at his waist and a shortbow on his back, but the many pouches and components attached to his gear in various easy-to-reach places bely his true calling. He raises his hand to get Zey's attention, the sleeve of his robe falling away to reveal a tattoo of intertwined flames and lighting on his forearm.

"Master Zey, it is clear that the cataloging is the primary focus, but as our dwarven companion points out, sometimes it cannot be avoided. Is there something about the nature of the demi-plane that would be harmed if we WERE to use lethal force? I know that the rules of these type of dimensional constructs are not always the same as the rules here in the real world......."

Gear redone (lost quite a few wonderful toys), think Im all set as well.


Deylinarr here, submitting blaster-caster Zinthar. Fluff and crunch all done except gear: he was originally built as level 5 so could craft wands, I've got to go back and rebuy his equipment without that option. Should have it done either tonight or tomorrow.

Zinthar has spent this entire time staring at the area, every few seconds his fingers moving as if he is counting. A devious grin is crossing his face as Pip asks his question.

"Oh, I think I can announce our presence with some authority. If everyone is ready........?"

If everyone is ready:
Based on your post, oh great and powerful Cy, Zinthar can move 5-10 feet forward and blast them with a Diamond Spray without risk of harming the danglers. Therefore.......

Cast Mage Armor first, cuz, you know.......
Make as short a move as possible before casting Diamond Spray in a 20' cone.
Spray Damage: 7d6 + 3 ⇒ (3, 6, 5, 1, 1, 3, 3) + 3 = 25 meh amounts of slashing damage. Reflex save for half, DC20

"If they are like those things from before, I'd imagine their daemonic nature gives them similar immunities and weaknesses? I don't know much about this specific type, but as we saw back at the hospital daemons tend to be pretty resistant to magic, and pretty tough."

Zinthar looks at Galoria. "The arrows we found in Dern's gear were made to defeat exactly this sort of creature. And after our last battler I made sure to prepare that diamond spray spell since it seemed more effective than other magics." He gazes at the scene again, his eyes darting up and down as he inspects the area from their vantage point. "But if those are innocent prisoners dangling from those trees I'll need to be careful........."

How far away are the beasties and how high up are the wriggling bodies? Diamond Spray is a 20' cone so Zinthar might need them to come to us a bit to make sure there is no collateral damage.

Zinthar hands the arrows to Galoria, nodding at her comment. "Quite an expensive misdirection. Not only are they enchanted, they are particularly effective against magical beasts like owlbears or manticores. Not the type of weapon you leave behind lightly, I would think."

The elf continues to smile at the group's banter, a bit jealous of the camaraderie but aware that he only met them a day ago. Hopefully they will see me as one of them soon enough.

Zinthar looks at the gear the Captain found, his eyes squinting into a suspicious look. "Seems odd, this place looks like its been abandoned for a while but this gear appears more recent?"

He knows better but he'll cast Detect Magic on the gear just in case.

Zinthar follows along with the rest of the group, smiling quietly at the hyperactive gnome and the stoic ranger. The levity is important since it is in direct contrast to the creepy nature of the place around them.

"Whatever this place was.......that was the past. What is this place now?" Taking Stephen's warning to heart, the mage casts his armor spell to make sure he is ready for any surprises this place might have in store for them.

Cast Mage Armor, a nice healthy 6 hours of protection!
