![]() Very frustrating. I looked at the possibility of purchasing a packet from Fantasy Grounds, but they want $19 for one book. The maps aren't worth that considering what we already paid for the AP books and or the PDFs. I am also considering remaking the maps, but I already put in a lot of prep time for the sessions. Why should I spend more time making maps because Paizo can't ensure the map grids are uniform? There is a thread discussing trying to get Paizo to make the maps Roll20 friendly and made available to us. When I looked for it to post here, I couldn't find it, but I found another thread discussing the issue at https://paizo.com/threads/rzs2q0pm?Maps-and-VTT. Sadly, the first post was August 3, 2013. This has been an ongoing issue for a very long time. I don't know if the map quality has improved since then, but I'm not running any of the current APs. I'm sure I'm not the only one running older APs. The storylines are great and worth going back to play again or for the first time. Why not drag out the original map files, I know those kinds of files would never be deleted, and make the files VTT friendly? I would be willing to pay some money for VTT friendly maps of old APs. We, the GMs and customers, also need to request this loudly. Money talks. Paizo, VTT is here to stay. Don't ignore technical advances like TSR has done in the past. You have great products; please make the maps useable for VTT. ![]()
![]() With the country needing to isolate due to the pandemic, my group started using Roll20 so we could continue playing. Since I started using Roll20, I have been struggling with entering the maps and getting them lined up with the Roll20 grid. I finally realized that I could make a guide layout grid in Photoshop, so I thought I would do that with one of the maps to see how off the map grid was. I was shocked to discover how much the map grid was off. I took the map directly from the PDF into Photoshop and lined up the upper left corner of the top left square on the map grid with the Photoshop guide layout. Looking across the map, I found the map grid did not consistently line up with the Photoshop guide layout. The map grid would be off by as little as approximately .027 inches to as much as .107 inches. I tried making the same number of Photoshop guide layout columns that the map had, and I tried making the guide layout columns a consistent width, and it didn't matter. If I measured each box of one row on the map grid, the boxes would not be a uniform size. How do you make a map on a grid when the grid is not consistent? I have always been impressed with the quality of material that Paizo puts out, but discovering the inconsistencies on map grids is very disappointing. ![]()
![]() Roll20 does not have maps for all of the APs. I am currently running Carrion Crown and it's not available. Trying to adjust the maps from the PDF in Roll20 has been a nightmare. I finally did a grid pattern guide in Photoshop and discovered the grid on the maps is not consistent! How do you make a grid for a map that is not consistent?!? ![]()
![]() I recently bought Emerald Spire and as I was reading through it I wanted to add my own bookmarks. I particularly like to add a section of bookmarks that take me directly to the maps. When I tried to create a bookmark I discovered that the PDF was locked up so tight I couldn't create my own bookmarks. I fully understand locking it to prevent copyright infringement but how does creating my own bookmarks threaten that? Paizo, you're a great company and I love your products, but this is going too far. Allow us to create our own bookmarks in the PDFs so we can enjoy the book in the way we want. Thank you. ![]()
![]() PFRPGrognard wrote: Paizo never makes their cards available as pdfs. I assume it's a marketing strategy to help avoid illegal downloads. But all their books are available in PDf format as well as their pawns. Not having the cards available in PDF format, cards that are supposed to be shared with the players (to mutilate and loose), doesn't make sense. Let's ask at the Cons. :-) ![]()
![]() I was wondering why this hasn't been made available as a PDF. Being particular about the items I buy I'm not willing to "give" my players a campaign card from my collection. Some players have a hard enough time locating their character sheet for each game. There's also the player who stops playing without warning and the player who "ages" their character sheet with food droppings and spilled drinks. Why would I let them hold onto a card from my Campaign Cards that could get lost or mutilated? I would, however, be willing to print a copy of the card to give to them and not worry about them losing or mutilating the cards. I'm sure I'm not the only GM like this who would love to have access to the PDF versions of Campaign Cards meant to be shared with the players. ![]()
![]() I just moved from central Indiana to Langley, WA on Whidbey Island. I would love to find a group on the island to join. I've played PF1 for many years as well as other systems; I also want to learn PF2 and Starfinder. If you're looking for a GM, I also have GMed for several years. Send me a PM if you have an extra player or GM chair that you want to fill. ![]()
![]() I like the idea of Dungeon Decor Pawns but I'm disappointed they are so dark. There is hardly any contrast, even under the best lights. A lot of games I've played in and ran did not have the greatest lighting so these pawns needed a lot of contrast in the colors. An example is the two Red Carpet pawns. From a distance, it looks like a reddish colored rectangle on a light brownish-gray background. For some reason the top third of the carpet is black. If you shine a light on the pawn you can barely make out a gold pattern on the carpet. That gold pattern should have stood out on the red background but you have to shine a light on it to even see it. I would love to see if the original artwork is as dark as the pawns are. I am very disappointed. I give the idea 5 stars out of 5, but with the printing so dark with hardly any contrast I give it 2 stars out of 5. ![]()

![]() It would be very helpful if the monsters listed on http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/indices/bestiary.html could be linked to the specific monster instead of the general basic information of the monster. For example, I need to go to "Water Elemental (Huge)" so a link to that specific water elemental is more helpful than a link that goes to "Water, Elemental" at http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/bestiary/elemental.html#elemental-water ![]()
![]() On the Monster Codex pages, it would be helpful to have anchor tags so we can link to a specific monster type. For example, on the vampire page at http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/monsterCodex/vampires.html# there is an Enlightened Vampire. At the moment I am unable to search for Enlightened Vampire or use a link that takes me directly to that information. Instead, when I do a search I am taken to the top of the Vampire page and I have no way to link directly to the Enlightened Vampire. Thanks. ![]()
![]() I have been hired to do some editing for a third party publisher and I was wondering if there is a style guide to help me out. I don't want trade secrets like colors and fonts, I just want a reference for formats things like how spell names should be done and do you write 10' or 10-feet or 10-ft. I've been doing a lot of searching through adventure paths I have to but having a reference would be a lot easier. If this should be a private discussion then please PM me. Thanks. ![]()
![]() Charlie Bell wrote: the thing that auto-initiates a download after 5 seconds is annoying. I don't want to automatically download a thing to my default downloads folder, I want to right click a link to download it to the place I keep all my Pathfinder stuff. The auto download function makes me either cancel it or navigate to a different folder every time. Which is not a problem if I'm downloading 1 file. If I'm downloading a whole AP, or Owen's RGG bundle, a bunch of extra fiddling for each download gets old fast. Go to the settings for your browser and select that you want to choose where to download. Then your next download will ask you where you want to download to. It will default to the last choice so if that's where you want it to go just click OK. ![]()
![]() I agree that we need to be able to do multiple downloads. I have a couple of subscriptions and it is very annoying to download one pdf at a time. If that's not bad enough the page jumps to the top of the screen to let me know it should automatically download and I have to search for where I was in order to click on the next one. Paizo I love you but your download page sucks. ![]()
![]() I have searched the board and can't find any reference to a question so here it is. Did I miss something? In Act 3 there is an Event 15 and an Event 17 & 18 which are both optional. What happened to Event 16? Was the Quiet Month suppose to be Event 16? Or was Event 17 & 18 assigned the wrong numbers? Just wondering as I prepare everything I need to run the campaign. ![]()
![]() I put the whole sheet in a page protector then in a binder. Each set is in a binder. The 1/2" binder works for the Adventure Path Pawns and the 1-1/2" binder works for the box of pawns. I print a list of the pawns that are in numerical and alpha order and put it in a sheet protector in the front. I use binders that have clear pockets on the outside to put a copy of the box picture. Since the Adventure Path pawns are enclosed in folder like cover I cut it up and use that for the cover, spine, and back of the binder. Sometimes pawns won't stay in the slot so I use removable tape on the back. But I like the idea of pasting a sheet on the back or even a print out of the pdf so I can see the image of the pawn missing. ![]()
![]() Two years after this initial post from Cori Marie I am going through my pawns to pull the ones I need for tonight's game. Several aren't available and a few only have one. I was thinking it would be nice to be able to buy a few sheets of blank pawns of each size. The pawn subscribers get the pdf version so if there's isn't enough shocker lizards a person could make as many as needed. We can also draw our own. Please, Paizo, consider doing this. At least give it a try. ![]()
![]() I'm looking for a website that is similar to Obsidian Portal. I don't want to pay the huge fee that OP charges. And I especially don't like the layout and look of OP since their unveiling of their Kickstarter funded revamp. It has serious, HUGE issues that they haven't addressed despite the complaints since day one (thankfully I did not support the Kickstarter) Anyway, what OP was before the broken revamp was great. I've tried the Goggle version created by D20PFSRD. It wasn't too bad, but I haven't been able to figure out how to use images that I've already loaded instead of uploading the image each time I want to display it. It also doesn't seem to have any help or documentations to help you figure it out on your own. I tried Epic Words Campaign but the Wiki section has no formatting to make it look nice. I want a page that shows categories and links to the subcategories. EWC wiki is a series of text boxes with an individual link to a page. Thanks for any suggestions you have. And if you know someone who works for OP or you work for OP then pay attention to what your users have to say. Ruhar ![]()

I use to believe that Obsidian Portal was the best...until they revamped the site with their Kickstarter funding. Now the site sucks starting with the color choices. Most intelligent people know that you can't read light colored text on light colored backgrounds and dark colored text on dark colored backgrounds. Whoever designed the revamped site has to be blind because that's exactly what they did. Despite constant complaints from many users since the unveiling they have done nothing about it. If you want to send game date reminders it shows how many days from the game date but if it's a two digit number it only shows the first number. There's more. Bottom line, I've had enough of them taking my money and not making changes of reported problems. As soon as I find a site that works for me I'm jumping ship. I'm just glad I didn't do the Kickstarter. ![]()
![]() My group is playing Kingmaker and I thought I would make the hex map a form that we could type the information inside each hex instead of the pen & paper scribbled mess we currently have. I was greatly disappointed that I couldn't do this. I understand that Paizo has to protect their work, but I'm pretty sure turning a page in a pdf that is already a form into a workable form would not violate Paizo's copyrights. RPG is in the digital age which is evident with the availability of the books in pdf format. This should also include making a digital form from a form in a pdf. If we have permission to make copies of the hex map to track our progress we should also have permission to make it a pdf form that can be used digitally. ![]()
![]() Several years ago I played in a group that used what they called The Inverse Rule for rolling cure spells. I liked it enough to add it to the game I now run. On a d8 1=8, 2=7, 3=4, 4=4, 5=5, 6=6, 7=7, 8=8 so the minimum possible cure is half. Just remember, what's good for the party is good for the enemy. ;-) ![]()
![]() I thought I would throw out my house rule for rolling hit points into the ring. A character gets max hit points at first level. After first level the player keeps rolling the hit die, adding the points rolled, until the total is maxed out or goes over. If a roll results in the total going over then the previous total is the hit points used. Example: a character's hit die is a d10. The player's first roll is a 2 so she rolls again. The second roll is a 5 that is added to the 2 for a total of 7. The third roll is a 4 making the total an 11. The third roll is over 10 so the character gets 7 hit points. This gives the players a better chance at a decent hit point and there's less whining when they roll a 1. ![]()
![]() My first thought was that you are the GM so you set the rules. If the player doesn't like it you can find another player. The different ways to create a character are endless. When I first started gaming we rolled 4d6 drop the lowest and didn't start recording until we rolled a 16. That wasn't a guarantee of getting decent numbers after the 16 and there was a lot of whining and whimpering to get the DM to declare the character died at an early age and let us reroll the stats. Over the years I've used different techniques from rolling to buying. Personally, I prefer rolling. I feel like I have a better chance of getting a decent to a really cool character. Of course, that could be a player superstition like lining up your dice with high number on top to get better rolls (well it works for me....sometimes). I also feel like I have less control when I have to buy my stats from a set number. Another way to limit the stats is what a recent GM did in a new adventure my group started. He declared that no stat could be above 18 after racial adjustments. My preferred method for my players is to have them roll a set of six numbers, 4d6 drop the lowest, and make six sets. They can then choose which set they want. Just make it clear that a set is a group of six numbers and that they can't pick and choose the numbers from the different sets - I had a player who didn't understand and did that. This gives the players a feeling of being more in control of their character's fate. But it comes down to what you prefer as the GM. The player may not like what you like, but if they want to play they'll go along with it because it is, after all, your game. I think the hardest part of GMing is to stand up to players who want to have it their way all the time and tell them NO, not this time. ![]()
![]() I don't know if my question should go here or on Lone Wolf/Hero Lab forum so I'm going to post to both. I have a player who created a 6th level Summoner with Rime Spell feat and chose the Icicle Dagger spell. He created two Favorite Metamagic Spells: "Icicle Dagger, Rime" and "Snowball, Rime." There is a validation alert for the "Icicle Dagger, Rime" that says, "Spell must deal Cold damage." When I delete the "Icicle Dagger, Rime" from the Favorite Metamagic Spells the alert goes away. I told my player that he needs to look at it and adjust his character. He argues that Hero Lab doesn't recognize that the Icicle Dagger spell does indeed cause "cold damage" for terms of the Rime Spell feat. I don't think the Icicle Dagger spell can be used as a Rime Spell because the Icicle Dagger spell not only deals 1 point of cold damage but it also deals normal dagger damage. I told him I would check into it. So what do all of you think? Is Hero Lab broken or am I right that Icicle Dagger spell can't be used as a Rime spell because it also does normal damage? Thanks.
P.S. Please no discussion about GMs having final ruling. I want to be fair and check with the Paizo & Lone Wolf community. ![]()

![]() Ideally, it would be nice is if you bought the HB book from Paizo you would get a discount for the PDF version IF you buy both at the same time. They could still have the subscriptions where you'd get the free PDF version. For those who don't have a subscription they could get a discount if they buy both versions at the same time. If they don't buy both at the same time then they would pay full price. Paizo would still have subscriptions with free PDFs as an incentive. They might even make more money off of those who don't have a subscription but have an incentive to buy both at the same time. ![]()
![]() I like having a wishlist so others can see what I want and I can keep track of items I want. But the process seems very complicated on getting an item to a wishlist.
