Varisian Fortune Teller

Are people waiting for me? I was waiting for Eran and Cardon now that Allyph has moved, clearing the stairs.

Varisian Fortune Teller

Fane strikes at the spider between him and Eran, just missing it with the blade of his rapier.

As Allyph moves out of the stairwell to make room for the others, one of the spiders bites her in the ankle again.

A quick post at work. Spiders 1 and 2 can't make any more opportunity attacks.

Combat:

Allyph's Turn
Allyph provokes an attack of opportunity when she tries to grapple the spider.
Spider 1 bite AoO: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (10) - 1 = 91d2 - 5 ⇒ (1) - 5 = -4
The spider misses.
She also provokes an attack of opportunity when she moves out of her space.
Spider 2 bite AoO: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (17) - 1 = 161d2 - 5 ⇒ (2) - 5 = -3
The spider hits for 1 non-lethal damage.
Allyph save vs. poison (DC 10): 1d20 ⇒ 11
Sucess!

Fane's Turn
Fane does get flanking but he still misses. He needs to get 21 to hit the tiny spider.

GM, I have a suggestion, if I may. For online campaigns, I find it easier to make a a thing for all of our initiatives in the campaign info, like this...

[dice=Eran]1d20+2[/dice
[dice=Allyph]1d20+2[/dice
and so on...

When you put it in the campaign info tab, it doesn't roll them, so whenever there is a new combat all you have to do is copy/paste it into the gameplay tab. This makes combat go a little faster. But, it is your game, and your decision

Good idea! I've implemented it.

Varisian Fortune Teller

As Allyph walks down the steps, crawling shapes dart out of the shadows towards her. More spiders!

She stabs at one with her dagger, but they are too fast for her. One of them bites her in the ankle but she doesn't feel the sting of poison (this time).

Two more attack Fane. He also misses with his rapier and one of them bites his calf.

Allyph follows her dancing lights into upper cabin. The air is thick and musty. Thick sheets of cobwebs hang from the walls and mounds of blankets, cushions, and
straw clutter the floor. A narrow flight of stairs leads down to into the ship’s hold. Light from multiple torches flickers up the stairs.

Never mind. I found it on his character sheet.

Varisian Fortune Teller

Eran launches the dancing lights into the interior of the ship. The hold is dank and smells of mildew. Several barrels crates, and other containers lie stacked here and there. A shallow layer of river water has collected in puddles.

The spider scurries towards Tolen. He swings at the spider with his sword but the damn thing is too fast. The spider leaps at Tolen's ankle but can't find an exposed surface to bite.

Varisian Fortune Teller

Eran steps over and grabs the door. The wet, swollen wood groans as it opens. Eran can't see a thing inside the pitch black interior of the old ship.

Eran took a five-foot step and move action to open the door. He has a standard action left.

Varisian Fortune Teller

If I use ranged touch attack on something on my own neck/shoulder, would that be considered firing into melee? Cause that -4 on the roll will make it impossible for me to get rid of a tiny spider.

It would be considered firing into melee. Remember, a natural 20 on the die always hits.

Burning hands would work too, but be quite hazardous. Luckily Cardon flicked the spider off.

Varisian Fortune Teller

Wasn't sure which rolls to use, so I picked melee touch and made the crush equal to an unarmed strike.

Running back to where Cardon is, she whispers to him with a panicked voice. "Where is it, where is it?"

Allyph already had her turn this round. You'll have to wait.

The correct attack would be an unarmed strike, which provokes an attack of opportunity from the spider. Allyph's attack needs to hit AC 21.

Varisian Fortune Teller

Eran couches as he moves along the unsteady walkway in the dim light. His owl tattoo allows him to see details in the dark others can't, but he still can't find a way onto the ship from below.

Before Allyph can step back out of the cabin, the spider tries to bite her again. She feels its hairy legs brush against her neck, but not the sting of the fangs. As Allyph starts to cast her spell, the spider strikes again. The pain of the bite is only a distraction--she doesn't feel the burn of the poison this time. She completes her spell, but it has no effect on the spider.

Fane deftly drops down to the lower walkway. He is soon joined by Eran. The light shining through from the opening above shows a narrow space beneath the fishery. Wooden pilings support the building. Moss and cobwebs hang thick from ropes and rusted chains. The ceiling is low, forcing them to crouch. A wooden walkway floats on the languid foamy rivers surface, winding along the outer pilings from the sodden hull of the abandoned ship to a low half-door in the understructure. Flickering light leaks out around the edges of the closed door.

Allyph and Cardon make their way along the upper walkway to the ship. They keep a small distance between each other to keep the walkway from swaying too much beneath their combined weight. Cardon looks down at a slippery looking ladder leading to the old rowboat moored to the side of the pilings.

As soon as Allyph gets close to the ship she realizes it isn't seaworthy. It's easy enough to climb over the side of the ship onto the deck but she isn't sure she wants to. The rotten deck of the ship seems to be barely intact, its hull worn and thick with seaweed and barnacles. The barge is held together by layers of old rope that lash it securely to the the pilings. A closed wooden door leading into the aft cabin bears a crude painting of a red fish.

Hadric and Tolen watch Fane and Eran through the opening in the fishery's floor. As they watch, there's more splashing and they see a large form moving through the water. A large dorsal fin slices the surface and they disappears...

Gaedren's down below, Hookshanks points to the opening in the floor where Yargin fell. He's got a lair underneath the fishery. He get's in by rowboat, but there's a walkway to the entrance if you can get to it.

Fane glances down into the opening. The water is about five feet below. He can just see the edge of the walkway another five feet over from the opening. He also sees Yargin's body floating in the water. There's a sudden splash and then the body is dragged beneath the surface in a cloud of blood.

The halfling (or 'slip' in the Korvosan slang) is known as Hookshanks Gruller. He leads the gangs of children out in the street as they steal and pick pockets. He enjoys bullying those smaller than himself.

Varisian Fortune Teller

Allyph tries to move towards the halfling but one of orphans at the bottom of the stairs blocks her way, threatening her with a sharp dagger.

Step back miss! I ain't afraid to use it! The young girl's hand shakes as she hold the blade.

Allyph can move to K7, but she can't move past Lamb 8.

Varisian Fortune Teller

Lamb 10 is the halfling.

Cardon’s scarf flies over Yargin's head. He smiles condescendingly at Cardon You’ll have to do better than that kiddie.

Eran’s missiles wipe the smile of his face. His eyes roll up in his his head and he falls forward, splashing into the water below.

The halfling growls at the two kids on either side of Tolen, Take ‘im out or you’ll be chum next.

The orphans nervously stab at Tolen, but their daggers glance off of his armor. They move cautiously around the warrior, glancing down the opening in the floor that Yargin fell through.

Merry Christmas everyone!

The children watch as Tolen shouts and then stumbles from the walkway. Looking back at one of the older children, they grimly stab at him once when he's one the ground and once more as he's getting up, adding a slight scratch to the bruises he received from the fall.

Allyph’s ray of lightning strikes Yargin square in the chest. He grimaces in pain as he steps back. I'm not scared of you, you buffon! he goads Hadric. You couldn't hit a tree in a forest! Luckily my little dears are chipping away at you.

He hurls his last flask of acid at Hadric. It bounces off his wildly swinging axe and smashes on the ground behind him, splashing him and one of the orphans with acid.

Allyph and Fane both notice something odd about one of the children. He looks much older than the other children but is smaller than he should be.

Eran and Cardon are next.

Combat:

The kids got readied attacks in addition to the attacks of opportunity on Tolen.

Sorry for the delay--it's been a little hectic with the holidays. I'll post an update later today.

Varisian Fortune Teller

Mal looks around the room. With Hadric gone, and Cardon and Eran not threatening them, nothing is stopping them from leaving the fishery. The urchin by the door slips the lock and props the door open. The rest of the orphans grab the opportunity and slip away into the night. As she’s leaving, Mal turns, Thanks and all that but we prefer not to be here if you’re goin’ up against Gaedren. Good Luck!

A visibly shaking Yargin steps over the open hole in the floor, throwing a flask of acid at Tolen. The flask bounces off the railing and smashes on the edge of the vat below, splashing two of the orphans with acid.

One of the kids points at Tolen, Look at the blood on his blade! They've already killed the others! He growls menacingly at the other urchins, Take them out quickly! If you don’t you’ll all end up dead… ...one way or the other.

The other kids look nervous, but follow his instructions, grasping their blades and moving into defensive positions.

The urchins look puzzled as Cardon enters the room. They have a hard time believing his story—why would anyone want to help them?

Mal shrinks back in horror when Fane’s scarred visage appears. She remembers Fane, but doesn’t recognize him. She was told Fane was killed in a back alley by city guards.

They see Allyph moving past the door, obviously more concerned with pursuing Yargin than harming them. And the big barbarian with the great axe isn’t paying any attention to them either, even though they stabbed him with their daggers.

When Eran appears behind Cardon and tells them he was once like them, they look at each other and slowly, tentatively, lower their daggers.

What should we do? Mal asks, How will you protect us from Lamm?

The street urchins look nervously from one to the other, unsure what to do next.

Allyph opens the door with her dagger drawn. Down below, eight sets of eyes stare back at her. Yargin glares at her, a flask of acid in one hand and a wand in the other. Seven more orphans look up at her—some look uncertain but others look ready to fight.

Allyph moves around Tolen and the dying dog. From her new position she points a finger at Yargin.

"Careful, Tolen and Hadric!" she warns her allies, then mutters a spell and shoots a ray of electricity from her fingertip at Yargin. The ray goes past her allies and passes over Giggles, who's still on the ground.

[dice=Damage]1d6 Aww...

Allyph needs to make a ranged touch attack to hit Yargin's touch AC. He has cover (+4 AC) from the side of the fishery.

Cardon has already gone this round, I believe.

Cardon has gone. He gets to go again after Giggles has acted.

He can speak as a free action anytime--it doesn't have to be his turn.
