"It looks like we have 3 choices. Swan's Embrace, The Desert Wind, or we hit a dive. Unfortunately Swan's Embrace is kinda, er, picky with their guests and the Desert Wind doesn't take kindly to Muziel's type...but on the other hand I haven't been in a bar fight for a while..."

Zadock looks around to make sure no marshals are around

"Or we can hide in an alleyway while we analyze what clues we. And probably appear like we are the ones who caused this mess."

Following a soft chuckle at Karrick's comment, Zadock attempts to locate the nearest tavern/inn before any less understanding marshals come their way.

Zadock chortles to himself a little " I can do squiggly lines, I would just prefer not to do them here..."

Zadock keeps an eye on the parade as long as their in musket range then hands the two tonics to Muziel as soon as they are out of ear shot.

"One's a Cure Moderate, Can't make heads or tail of the other one...figure that this is more your area of expertise."

After the party has gathered, Zadock suggests they get to the nearest inn/tavern to sort out their next move.

"While the good captain and our halfling friend talk to the dwarf, maybe Muziel and I can work on the more intellectual part somewhere a bit more private."

I'll attempt to identify the tonics for now but if I can't they are going straight to Muziel (probably will anyway), I'm just going to roleplay it like Zadock took all the stuff (aka anything not gold except the bandolier)to identify

Zadock proceeds to go through the rest of the things recovered from their fallen assailant, mumbling to himself as he does so.

"...the sword is of good quality, the dagger seems nice, let's see about those tonics..."

Craft(Alchemy)

After concluding his work, he takes a quick look around to make sure he wasn't abandoned by the rest of the party while he was working.

Zadock spots Karrick by the door and takes a quick last bite before picking up his musket and heading in that direction.

Making a quick stop by Miikae, he leans the sabre against the table "Just in case you need to make a point to our host." and proceeds to the hall, chuckling at his own joke.

Quickly checking to make sure the hallway is at least mostly empty, Zadock fishes the cold iron dagger from his sash and hands it to Karrick as discretely as he can. "I figure you can make better use of this than me." He makes sure nobody is eavesdropping before continuing "Muziel just requested a private audience with our grand host, any ideas why?"

For a bent copper piece Zadock would have put a bullet between their host's eyes.

Luckily he had bigger problems to shoot/solve...

For example, Zadock leans over to Pervince and whispers "Wait, Did Kera just giggle?"

Seeing that the food is most likely not poisoned he proceeds to eat as he has not had a meal like this ever since he has gotten to this magic-forsaken land.

After Zadock is finished, he turns half his attention to the group and their current discussion.

Who actually has the gear from the assassin? I'm just going to assume that Zadock is carrying the Sawtooth Sabre for the purposes of this next roll but we should probably say who is carrying what for future reference

When Kera and Pervince mention the sword, Zadock suddenly realizes that he has allowed his old academic habits to get in front of his actual goal. A trait that he reminds himself will kill him one day if he keeps it up...

Cursing a bit under his breath as he unwraps the item underneath the table, he carefully examines the assassin's sword for a smith's mark or any other distinguishing features.

Linguistic/Perception to see what Muziel and Grachius are talking about in the corner there, as he feels it is a bad sign when people start speaking in an alien tongue while he is in the room...

Exhausted Zadock hits the bed as soon as he is shown the room.

At the first ray of sunlight, Zadock awakens mechanically and proceeds to transcribe the events of the previous day inside his journal and proceeds to contemplate on what it all might mean....

At the knock of the door, he snaps the journal close and greets the slave at the door (careful not to let him in while he still has things in the room).

Collecting his belongings, he joins the rest of the party (giving a silent nod to Karrick as he passes him in the hall) and leans his musket on the table next to him as he sits.

Zadock takes a plate of food after their host does but doesn't eat anything quite yet and attempts to signal one of the slaves/servants over for a sealed bottle of cheap wine.

DM:
Zadock does a cursory examination of the food on his plate for any poison or other alchemical treatment Can't be too careful now that the Red Mantis' now know we are on their tail

Zadock thanks the members of the group who aid in his recovery and wearily gets to his feat.

Before leaving the scene, Zadock asks Miikae if they could place the corpse of the assassin on top of Sands for transportation purposes due to the fact that everybody looks like they are about to collapse.

He stresses the fact that this is a temporary measure only until they get to the embassy.

During their trek to the embassy, Zadock stays back a bit to recollect and observe the situation...especially their newest travelling companion.

DM:

Knowledge rolls on the mutation...

Knowledge(Dungeoneering/Planes/Nature/Religion) = what caused the mutation? Can it be cured? Does it have a mind of its own?

Zadock sinks to his knees in exhaustion as he lets the last wave of chaos magic pass through the alley.

Attempting to stand, Zadock feebly props himself up on his musket and attempts to walk towards the body of the group's fallen assailant.

He looks wearily at the group of Shieldmarshals approaching the group before ignoring them and letting someone else do the talking.

He slumps by the body of the assailant and wracks his brain for any helpful information regarding what in Nethys name just happened...

DM:

Rolling for anything regarding the Red Mantis, a Void Worm, or a connection between the Red Mantis and the Plane of Chaos. Not going to roll Knowledge History/Nature because I rolled them already.

Zadock will move back out towards the entrance of the alley 30 feet from the assassin and lines up a shot with his musket.

"Yes, let's all run towards the center of a magical storm and an obvious assassin!" Zadock mutters angrily as he moves to catch up with his fellow adventurers.

Sensing the danger this woman represents, Zadock comes to a sudden halt and focuses intently on one of the assassin's blades we'll go with the one in her main hand.

"But...fine... as Zadock reluctantly puts his firework away as they walk the short distance before seeing their comrades being assaulted.

Zadock will attempt to quickly create a small makeshift firework out of some of the gun powder in his powder horn, a couple pages from his journal, and a wick made of a quick snip of horse hair.

He will also attempt to make this firework the least deadly as possible in order to not maim anybody too badly...

Zadock is lost in thought as he wanders through the ruins making notes in his journal of the runes carved into the walls. He seems completely oblivious to his compatriots until they hit the door.

DM:

Zadock will attempt to record everything he can about the ruins, from the type of stone to the runes. I'm not to sure what kind of roll you would want me to make for how complete his notes are.

Startled a bit at the abrupt end of the path, he sheepishly puts away his journal and quickly catches himself up on the conversation.

Unfortunately I failed to grab any alchemical concoctions before we left... what do we have to work with? Maybe I can jury-rig something big and flashy that won't kill everyone.

Zadock starts cursing under his breath but thinking better of it he lowers his rifle and starts a sweep of the area to as his companions check on the guards...

Zadock moves quickly to the front of the group and takes a knee and aims his musket at the darkness enveloping the front.

"Throw a torch in the front, hopefully whatever is skulking out there is friendly..."

Zadock just sighs and pinches the bridge of his nose"Ok for lack of better options, I'll take the guards, the good Captain, Miikae and the horse and trigger whatever trap that Slief left behind. Gurney, Hana, our volunteer sewer explorer and the rest of you hit the sewers and try to get the dropon Slief for a change...please tell me he doesn't know about the sewer passage."

After reloading his musket, Zadock will take the torch from Miikae "I guess I'll hold it, I'm blown for the day anyhow..."

Zadock will curse in Dwarven hoping that Silef's ancestors rise from their graves and eat him.

He then proceeds to retrieve the grappling device from the roof and proceed to do a cursory examination of it (while being careful not to touch the burnt flesh) while walking over to the Duchess.

Still examining the device Zadock asks for a spare vial from the alchemist then turns to the Duchess.

Zadock moves to the top of the balcony just in time to see the gnome swing away to the other side of the room.

In a last ditch effort to stop the Gnome Zadock summons the last of his arcane power...

and targets the grappling weapon (I'm assuming it has metal components) in hopes of making him drop it or overheating it and making it seize up.

I'm going to split my decision of my standard based on what happens but for the sake of moving the game forward I will write them both down for the DM.

Still cursing, Zadock makes his way to the bottom of the stairs and turns to face the new assailant...

If I get to the edge of the stairs and I can see the assailant...:

Still cursing, Zadock aims his musket at the gnome and yells out "Duck and Cover your Ladyship!"

Carefully channeling the protective spell he prepared for the day into the barrel he lets it loose at the gnome.
