Just in case anyone hasn't seen this yet,
Elton is discontinuing all his games.
I don't know how to mark the campaign as inactive (I know how to do it from the GM's perspective, but I'm not sure if a player can do so.)

Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day, all!

Update:
The malware was a browser hijacker. Malware Bytes, Adwcleaner, and Microsoft Scanner all failed to remove it. Adwcleaner could detect it, but not remove it. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling firefox. It didn't help, but in the process I noticed that neither IE nor Chrome were affected; the problem was limited to firefox.
Then, I did a search and deleted all files with 'firefox' in their name, along with all files contained in folders with 'firefox' in their name. This included a few files designated as critical, which windows stores to remember that firefox was installed at one point. My suspicion was that adwcleaner had identified the malware inside one of the 'critical' files, but did not delete it due to being set not to alter critical files.
Then I reinstalled firefox and the problem was gone!
So, my problem is tentatively fixed. It is entirely possible that the hijacker is still somewhere on my computer, but latent. If it resurfaces, I'll format my hard-drive and do a clean install.
Male Drow Sorcerer 5
My computer is infected by malware. Until I fix it, I can only make long posts from others' computers (I use the same computer for work and personal use). I can make short posts from my phone.

'Cannith South hiding something'? Maybe this is related.
Still disguised, Xov speaks up
"You may have my assurance that we shall retrieve this box for you, Ms. Michaelina. "
He pauses before adding,
"Since you do not seem to truly be a part of this temple, where shall we find you when we return?"
She acknowledged her dragonmarked status before we had even introduced ourselves, he though,
so she cannot be too careful. Let us see what she will inadvertently reveal.

Xov initially remains silent as Kirin speaks, waiting for the proper moment to interject.
There is a possibility that our Citidel contact already knows the information I seek from this Cannith sorcerer, so I must be careful about handling this.

As Ebran follows her, Xov slips within the crowd, and adjusts his magical hat to assume the appearance of a slim, dark-haired Brelish human. Then, he catches up with the group and his quarry and follows Ebran and Kirin.

King of Blades...who does that refer to?
If any of these are appropriate:
knowledge: arcana: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
knowledge: nobility: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
knowledge: nature: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16
knowledge: planes: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
And she freely acknowledges herself as a Cannith heir, despite supposedly posing as another. Strange.
Male Drow Sorcerer 5
It isn't much of a 'conversion' if it doesn't have anything in common with the 'original';)
Maybe I should write something else related to this group/character/game while we're waiting for Elton...
...or maybe I'll just focus more on my other games and keep putting off stuff related to this one.
Male Drow Sorcerer 5
There is an actual Binder conversion to pathfinder, and he is updating and expanding it via kickstarter. The OA Medium doesn't seem to be anything like the binder, it's just another Vancian caster copy/paste.
Then they have an infinite blaster class...with nothing to make it stand out from all the other infinite blasting classes. And more wizard/sorcerer clones.
Male Drow Sorcerer 5
It looks like Elton is focusing on the Occult Adventures playtest.
Male Drow Sorcerer 5
Hrph, this woman displays the lack of manners typical of the Brelish. But something seems off about her...
Male Drow Sorcerer 5
Xov observes the person Ebran points out.
Something about her seems suspicious...

Male Drow Sorcerer 5
Yea, he did realize that. But he assumes it wasn't intrigue work (since Othan purported to be new to intrigue at the beginning of the campaign), so Othan's openness with Falko looks to Xov like Othan is a putting personal connection ahead of the mission.
That will probably change as he starts to see Falko in a more positive light, possibly in the next update.
I'll admit I'm not spending as much time thinking about this game as I used to. Probably because whenever I decide "I'll devote some extra time to pbp games", I then have to decide which one, and usually end up picking either of the games I'm running.

What Xov thinks of the other PCs VI: new arrivals
Male Drow Sorcerer 5
It certainly is taking awhile to find anything in here.
Male Drow Sorcerer 5
Without informing the others of what he is looking for, Xov searches for hints as to why or whether anyone here is connected to Cannith:
gather information?: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
ven'xol perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22
Male Drow Sorcerer 5
The rest of us can also Aid Another.
Xov aid another: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
Ven'Xol aid another: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12
35 so far.

"Hrmph, no. But we must find this 'Lorielei the Divine Hand' person quickly."
Male Drow Sorcerer 5
Thinking it is not trapped, he opens it as soon as he finds a hidden location.
Male Drow Sorcerer 5
Upon recieving the letter, Xov scans it to make sure it is not trapped.
Detect magic (always on), perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
If it is not trapped he will find a quiet alcove in the city and read it.
If it IS trapped he makes sure to follow the man.
Male Drow Sorcerer 5
Male Drow Sorcerer 5
"Indeed."
If needed
perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Male Drow Sorcerer 5
With a solemn expression, Xov nods.
Ah, he is green in this business
Male Drow Sorcerer 5
"Our contact did say that any or all of them might ask for favors, so it seems likely that she will. It is near certainly a code phrase, the Citadel is almost never honest."
Xov scoffed at the notion for a moment before continuing,
"Kirin is correct, of course. There is no guarentee that bypassing such an assignment would even be beneficial--For all we know, what the Citadel wants us to do is the 'favors' these people ask for. The supposed information could be entirely code."
Male Drow Sorcerer 5
That's got to be the most exciting game-related new I've heard...ever!

Male Drow Sorcerer 5
So, I'm considering having Xov take the Leadership feat if we make it to 7th level. I'm bringing this up now, despite 7th level being a long ways off, because of how leadership needs to be worked into the game.
The main reasons Xov would want a cohort are:
1. He dislikes working alone. Mainly due to training, and the fact that he was captured whilst working alone (which is how he ended up where he was at the beginning of the campaign).
2. He prefers to avoid direct combat, and fight through others instead (hence his spell selection). Having one more person in addition to the other PCs is something he would like.
3. He has a low opinion of mercenaries, unless he already knows them (i.e., Othan, and eventually Falko), and so wouldn't want to just get mercenaries to accomplish (1) or (2).
4. As he advances with the rest of the party, his status in the Eyes of Aundair is also (presumably?) improving, so it makes sense for him to take less experienced agents of Aundair under his wing.
The catch is that Xov isn't particularly well known, since our group does jobs which are inherently secret. If there is anyone from whom he has garnered enough respect to gain a cohort and/or followers, it would be other people in the intrigue organizations we've been interacting with.
So all that considered, I think the most sensible option for a cohort would be a rogue/ninja-esk character (not necessarily the rogue or ninja classes) who is part of the Eyes of Aundair, ranked lower than Xov. I'm less sure about followers.

"I agree, Wroat sounds like the best option for our next destination. Also, if order is important for reasons beyond our knowledge, our contact listed it second, so we should do that next. If order is not important beyond convenience, then Wroat is still the most convenient location to go to next. "

"Even if it is large, there is no way to blackmail anyone for information unless we know what information we seek, which currently we do not."
By the Five Nations, does this Elan want to pick a fight with everyone?
Guess we're just waiting for the results of the gather information check(s).
Male Drow Sorcerer 5
Xov assists Karin in his search for information.
He may be a mercenary, but at least he seems to have a little sense in him.
aid another: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
Male Drow Sorcerer 5
After thinking for a few seconds on how best to explain without revealing anything too important to the mercenary, Xov replied
"The Aurum is, essentially, a cable of very wealthy Khorvairians. They manipulate economies to gain control of as much of the continent as they can whilst remaining mostly hidden.
Out current...contractor is on poor terms with the Aurum."
"The Citadel is an arm of the Brelish crown. I am not privy to all of their inner-workings."
Male Drow Sorcerer 5
Xov sighed at Othan's description. Secret! Secret! The whole point of using mercenaries is that you needn't tell them anything secret. He resisted the urge to say anything on the subject, but just thought it to himself. Instead he listened to Falko and Absylon bicker.
"House Kundrak, you say? They have ties to the Aurum. Hasphat sounds more like a potential ally, if a shady one, than an enemy. "
After pausing for a moment and looking ready to depart in search of information, Xov speaks up again, this time towards Kirin and Falko
"Oh, pardon my forgetfulness, you two may know not what the Aurum is. "
Male Drow Sorcerer 5
"Extortion without knowing what to extort is unfeasible, Falko is correct. Now,"
he says, gritting his teeth at Absylom, "if you have useful information about the gnome, share it. If it is sufficient I will try to figure out what the code means. If it is not, then we should find this pyramid as soon as possible. "
And why is he calling Xov 'mr eye' anyways? He doesn't even know, since he hadn't joined the group when everything was explained to them. Only Othan and Ebran would know that unless I forgot something else.
Male Drow Sorcerer 5
"Spare us the details of the gnome's sexual life." Xov rolled his eyes. Inform us of any useful information you have about relations to the Aurum...bare in mind though that no matter what you find about Hasphat, you cannot hope to get the desired information out of him without knowing what you are looking for.[/b]"
Male Drow Sorcerer 5
It wouldn't open for me, either. I took it out of the spoiler since everyone can hear it.
Male Drow Sorcerer 5
Message, everyone(including Absylom:
" Oh, Absylon has information about the Aurum. Do share, please. "
