Most of the overall story was revealed through the overseer posts, I reckon. What I got was that we were at some grand party, then the aspis jumped in when we Marcos Farabellus was giving some speech, and then monsters from the Hao Jin Tapestry and aspis agents were everywhere. Then as we contained the threat, the higher-ups pieced together what was happening and fed the info back to us (through overseer announcements).
We found out that the monsters had been tricked into allying with the aspis and attacking the Pathfinders, though some of the monsters probably didn't care. We found out that Zey was murdered and the sky key stolen, but the Pathfinders managed to close the portal from the Hao Jin tapestry and recover the Sky Key. From the looks of it, we whooped butt in the process too.
Still not sure how the floating tower fit into all of that though.

The potions I drank were enough, thought I might hold on to one more. I'll also hold one of the potions of invis since they are there. More sneak attacks can't hurt.
Might as well wear one of the belts as well since I don't have a belt slot item.

I can't fail a DC10 acrobatics check even if I roll a natural 1, so I'm just going to ignore the difficult terrain.
And I'm going to guess they don't want to be actually entering that magic circle...

"Well it looks like Jani's found the portal...but how are Rowanna and I going to get there?"
Wayreth notices the view outside the window is still normal, and tries to throw a random small object from inside the room out of the room. If nothing obstructs the object from flying out the window onto the ground outside, he tries to put his hand through the window.
And if nothing bad happens... he takes a deep breath and jumps out the window if the window is not more than 39ft off the ground. My airy step feat allows me to ignore the first 30ft of falling. I can fall up to 39ft and not take any damage or risk not falling on my feet.

Wayreth grins.
"Well, let's see. We have a man with a glowing face, another man whose half-composed of air, a woman with a split-personality disorder and a walking-talking frog with an attitude. By what metric are we defining out-of-the-ordinary?"
Wayreth takes a closer look at the key on the door, then considers the words that Kreighton Shaine had said as well as the words in the registry book. An idea slowly forms in his head.
"Rowanna, check the mirror. See if there's any particular magic aura on it. If there isn't, keep concentrating on your detect magic spell as I lock the room door. Shaine said 'look for the mirror' and 'it is in a private room that is reserved'. The book said 'Arliss Hall values your privacy. Simply lock your door and we will see to it that you are not disturbed'."
"So if my hunch is correct, something should happen to the mirror once I lock the door."

Nine rooms...1 to 8A. Would I be correct in guessing that the numbers are 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 8A?
Wayreth checks the doors one by one to see if they are numbered.
"It looks like the hall comprises of 8 rooms, a backyard garden and the living room we are in. My guess is that we will find doors labelled 1-7, and the last door is labelled either 8 or 8A, and that will be the door we will need to fiddle with."
"If there's magic involved, a scan of the area with a detect magic spell might also give us more clues," Wayreth muses as he checks the doors.

"Everyone! Ignore those aspis idiots for now! We need to contain the fire before it gets completely out of control! The Decemvirate will have our hides if they learn that one of our number was responsible for burning down the restricted library!"
It looks like each fire expands by 2 squares each round, so by simple mathematics, unless any of us has a way to remove more than 1 fire-square per turn, we need to make sure that we never end a turn with 3 or more squares of fire, or it will spread faster than we can contain it. In other words, the only way we're going to stop this library from burning down is if we all ignore the aspis agents entirely and try to put out fires this turn... Fortunately the aspis agents are disabled, or we'd have to do this whilst being attacked by them... The extra fire has effectively disabled us for at least two turns.
Wayreth moves around the growing flames to get to the burning bookshelf. Ignoring the aspis agent, he continues to beat at the flames with his cloak, muttering under his breath at the same time. "I'm referring to the Aspis attack as a whole. Or did you miss the big image of the snake devouring the Glyph of the Open Road? You know, the one that interrupted Farabellus' speech?"
"This is our home. We have intruders killing our friends even at this very moment. If they show signs of wanting to surrender, or of being confused, such as with that mummified person looking for maps, fair enough. But those guys who attacked us at the mausoleum already left two of our own for dead and were seeking to do the same to us, and you want try to talk it out with them? That's just naive. Costly naivety that are paid for in the lives of our allies."
"Our job now is to neutralize the enemy as fast as possible. If it means killing them, so be it. When the raiders are invading my home killing my allies, I don't waste time talking to one serpent whilst another devours my friends. I spend that time stopping both, or more if I can in that time. If an enemy is momentarily incapacitated and I can make sure he is permanently incapacitated, I make sure he doesn't get up whilst I am dealing with the next threat. It's that simple. It became that simple the moment they started attacking people like the caretakers at the back at the mausoleum and the acolytes here."
"They've started a war in our home and are targeting our civilians. If you can't grasp the repercussions of that, I envy your innocence, but I will not partake of your naivety."
Wayreth turns his back to Salubri and stalks off, signalling that he had no intention of wasting more time discussing the matter further.

Prophet of the Purifying Flame wrote: Returning the same look, "Blaming your actions on time, or other excuses does not remove burden of failure, friend, and all you have done as pass a quick judgment on another without knowing any of the facts and murder someone we could have used to our advantage in saving many others. It's childish talk and thoughts like that that have dragged the Society's name through the mud throughout the world, and we have no one to blame for that but ourselves. You could have, if you really where so concerned with time, moved to a threat that was actually a threat. . ." "I'm not 'blaming' anything on anything. I think my actions entirely justified. When there is a pack of wolves attacking your flock, taking the time to pacify one wolf when there are dozens more attacking the other sheep just ends up with more animals killed, and all of them being the innocent sheep. If they want to surrender, they are welcome to, but I am making a deliberate choice not to spend additional time persuading them to do so when there is nothing to indicate that it might be a worthwhile endeavour. And if the actions of his allies were anything to go by, it wouldn't have been. I finished off that Aspis agent because there was no telling how much longer he would stay asleep, and from what I know of the magic used to put him to sleep, it rarely lasts more than a minute. Better to finish him off whilst I could and move on to other threats than move on immediately only to return a minute later to find him woken up and being a threat once more. The more efficiently we take out the wolves, the more of the flock we save. And if that efficiency means lethal efficiency, then so be it."
I was actually keeping in mind that if we took longer than 4 rounds to finish the fight, he would have awoken and been back on his feet.

Wayreth heaves a sigh of relief when the hostager falls. Then he hears Prig's voice and with a grin replies from the other side of the door in a parody-imitation of the grippli's accent as he walks towards the door.
"Ve vill only negotiate if ve zee zat zere be no beings wth green skin behind zis door."
He winks to the acolytes and puts a finger to his lips as he opens the door, though he is careful to hide behind the door as he pulls it open, lest he cop a lance to the face.
"Mission accomplished," he says with a grin as he peeks out from behind the door. His mood darkens considerably however once he realises that the acolytes appear to have been deliberately beaten so that they would be near-death and easy to kill off. "Those curs. This is all-out war, and with the lowest most despicable tactics to boot!"
He turns to Salubri and adds, "they did this to our acolytes, and were furthermore prepared to kill all 10 of these young ones in cold blood for the sake of a tactical advantage. Still feel like playing nice with them, Sunshine?"
"Let's get these acolytes to safety asap. We've still got that floating tower to worry about. I'm going to go ahead and guess it's not the Decemvirate's doing. But given the state of the acolytes, we probably want to escort them to the infirmary first."
Speaking of which, we should probably double back to the infirmary to collect those those guys we discovered were still alive back at the mausoleum. Or were we assumed to have already recovered them?

Little confused. Is the hostage-taker a guy or a girl?
Aaaaanyway...
Wayreth inhales softly, coiling his body up, then jumps into the air, twisting his body in a corkscrew motion as he delivers a rapid succession of kicks.

Wayreth also takes a cloak, ring and healing potion (the potion of cure moderate wounds if no one else minds, being a somewhat glassy cannon).
"I'm willing to try it. Between the invisibility and my own skill at moving unseen, I should be able to move up to him undetected. And if Prig and Salubri can hold his attention towards the main door, I can also try to sneak in from the Southern side door. I am no stranger to opening closed doors."
Using sense motive "generally takes at least 1 minute", so if Prig and Salubri start talking when I start fiddling with the lock, I should be able to get in and get into position before he gets the chance to make a sense motive.
Edit:
Wayreth thinks about it a little more, then speaks again.
"On second thought, let's go with the levitation. Whilst I can pick the lock easily enough, it's all over if he sees the door opening. Once I get in there, Jani and Rowanna can wait for his first cry of pain or surprise before showing themselves to attempt their hexes. If he resists Rowanna and Jani's attempts to put him to sleep, it will fall to me to beat him senseless before he can react."
So plan is, Rowanna and Jani use the levitation scrolls, Wayreth drinks the invis potion, Rowanna and Jani carry Wayreth up to the window but stay out of sight themselves whilst the invisible Wayreth drops into the hall. My airy step feat allows me to ignore the first 30ft of falling, so no problem in a 20ft high dormitory. Once I get into position, our surprise round will be for Wayreth to attack, giving Jani and Rowanna the signal to make a 5ft levitate into view and use their hexes. If they fail to make him sleep, but Wayreth beats the hostage-taker's initiative, that's another flurry-sneak attack that might take him down. If I win initiative, we're looking at a total of 9d6+15 damage if all my attacks hit his flat-footed AC. All in, looks like we have a decent crack at this.

Wayreth looks at Salubri with incredulity.
"Does he really not grasp the situation we are in?"
"Hey Salubri, mercy's nice and all when we have the luxury of time, but these guys' allies are slaughtering our friends and acolytes as we speak, so unless they show a predisposition to talk, I'm just going to keep taking them down as quickly and as efficiently as I can, and if that means they die, well better them than our innocent friends and allies. A minute spent talking is a minute we could be saving others. I'll take saving the others thank you very much."
Just as he finishes, the tower begins to defy the laws of physics. Wayreth gives a low whistle as he sees what happens to the tower.
"Well that's not something you see every day."
Then he takes a double move to get up into the faces of the enemy.
"Hey you a&+~~*!s, if you surrender before I break your necks, you get to be under the custody of Mr Sunshine here. If you don't, I'm mowing you down and moving on to stop whatever other crap you guys are planning."

"You Aspis have murdered many in cold blood today. And time spent on mercy to you is time not spent saving others from the blades of your allies."

"Damn Aspis. We'll make them pay."
Looking to the doors, he sighs again. "Locked doors are one thing. Barred doors require brute strength, and I'm not particularly suited for that kind of task. Prig, you entered the weight-lifting competition, didn't you? How did you fare at that? You any good?"
Unfortunately, due to Prig's size, it might be best to slap it on Salubri? Prig would only get to medium size.
