![]() I've been dying to try out a tech based character in DW/DH/OW, I'll take a look at that possibility, was even wondering if he could be a bit more "weaponized" than normal. With weapon specialists, what sort of weapons are you looking for or do they normally use? Plasma/Flamer/Melta like the tabletop or more like power sword and shotgun? Btw I love your much better explosives rules ![]()

Ohh! I'm with you on those points, the old classic "farmer turned savior of the world" and a base we took off the bad guys ![]()
![]() Sounds fantastic, I'm an old RPGer so this ticks all my boxes, this sounds like the sort of stuff we did as kids sitting around the table with friends. The DM would respond to what we were doing and write adventures over the week based on our actions every weekend :D I love the 5e D&D system, the streamlined classes with variations built into them are just what RPGs need I feel. It's not about poring over feats and prestige classes to create what you want. You select your broad class, narrower path and then ROLEplay the rest. Also I feel PF has over-inflated stats like +hit, I love the 5e approach. If you've got room I'd love to join this ![]()
![]() william Nightmoon wrote: Ah! Wonderful, one if my ideas was indeed a Gulch Gunner who uses a shotgun sinstead of a pistol, but I like my Vigilante idea. I can still do what I would like, and I'm thinking I'll use a rifle instead because Ratfolk aren't exactly the best Melee and Gunmaster Vigilante are far better at a range of 30ft. haha yeah, we'll be a cool duo. I might borrow your idea of using a shotgun for my Gulch Gunner, he may not be the most effective, but I think he'll be a fun! Running around in melee like a mad rat, with "Cornered Fury" and home made alchemical concoctions :D ![]()
![]() Oh fantastic! I'm loving me some Dark Sun I'll be making an elf rogue (underground chemist) He'd be a wild and crafty little bastard that likes to cook up some concoctions from chemicals extracted from bugs or critters. He'd also be learning and experimenting with more advanced substances as we progress. Crunch!: Wild Talent: 3d8 ⇒ (1, 4, 3) = 8 Deja Vu Wild Talent: 3d8 ⇒ (1, 1, 7) = 9 Demand Offering I'll take Deja Vu Ability scores
rerolling 4: 4d6 ⇒ (1, 6, 5, 3) = 15

![]() william Nightmoon wrote: Well, with my first idea I wanted a Goblin gun scavenger, but with advanced firearms(which don't have misfire chances....) I want a lawyer... Who sideshows as a sniper I say go for the Ratfolk with me william :D As a vigilante you roam from warren to warren with your pal that used to be a stick-up kid, but is now a gun-for-hire who tags along with you after being scared straight (with a barrel in his face). ![]()
![]() william Nightmoon wrote: Well then, A gunmaster Vigilante for sure! Although I'll either be a Ratfolk or a kobold(seriously the Crazy ones are the best ones) If you go for Ratfolk, I'm making a Gulch Gunner. We could entwine our back stories, you a lone ranger and me a gun-for-hire that had worked on some jobs together. If we share the same space he's flat-footed so you can use the hidden strike for d4s, although I can probably first run out while you stay hidden to get the full d8s. ![]()
![]() Jesse Heinig wrote: *Turns to pick up his boxed set from 1991*...etc I think you're focusing too much on the mechanical elements of this and not the role playing aspect. How the character progresses on a chart or with dice is perhaps not the most important aspect of the character development. The Gladiatorial Slave of 2e was an utterly terrible kit and the advancement of an unarmed gladiator was poor in 2e as well, Pathfinder however has interesting options available. Which is great because unarmed combat to the death would be a horrifyingly brutal spectacle for the arenas. However, I think you raise an interesting point about undercutting the scarcity mechanism. But some classes are just naturally less affected by it, barbarians, rogues and rangers (assuming archer) aren't overly reliant on getting to roll a D8 over a D6 for weapons and they mostly use leathers. But if the DM feels I'm progressing faster and farther than the rest in terms of damage and AC I'm totally fine with being scaled back, I just like the role playing aspect of a rebellious gladiatorial slave who kept getting denied weapons and armors by his master to teach him a lesson, only to end up training an unarmed killing machine :D ![]()
![]() Jesse Heinig wrote: *side-eyes people asking to play monks* Actually if you have a little bit of knowledge about the gladiators of Athas, or like me, you played this from the early 90s and own a copy of The Complete Gladiator's Handbook. You might be familiar with the gladiator kit "Gladiatorial Slave", which are gladiators that were simply provided with anything their master wanted them to wield, or possibly 'nothing'. Playing as a Gladiatorial Slave that had a cruel master, forcing you to become especially proficient with unarmed combat and to rely on speed and wits instead of armor. The best possible class to represent that would be the Monk class. The lack of armor proficiency would be great to represent the bloody fights they wanted to see and the strange assortment of weapons he was forced to use is well represented by the Monk weapon proficiencies. I see my character favoring the talid and puchik when given any choice. ![]()
![]() I'm not a regular Pathfinder player (was D&D 3e and am 5e), so I'm a little overwhelmed with the massive amount of feats to choose from. I'm putting together a dwarf rogue and I'm looking for some archery feats, hoping to take advantage of sneak attack. Is there anything that lets me use sneak attack at further than 30feet? What are the best feat for archers at that range? (Point blank and Precise?) Or should I just go for throwing daggers? ...can they be thrown that far? is 10feet max for them? is there perhaps a chance to beef up their range? Also, am I stuck at 20feet movement as a dwarf? Are there some Boots of Striding or some such to help my chihuahua legs? Help me Obi-Nerd Kenobi, you're my only hope ...I mean "I'd really appreciate some help on this guys, thank you very much" ![]()
![]() hahaha I re-read my post and I want to be clear I think this campaign is one of the best ideas I've seen on these threads, not my character XD Oh boy I managed to sound like a jackass. Do you DMs want more details for it to make the selection, or is it good as is? I tried to keep it long enough to tell you who and how he is, but short enough to keep your attention. ![]()
![]() I think this idea is one of the better I've seen on these threads. I wrote a little background, I can add a lot of details, but this should give you an idea of whether you'd like this character in your campaign. Nordri Nipingr, the Dwarven Jeweler and Rogue: Nordri Nipingr is an honest and upstanding member of Absalom’s Guild of Jewelers, well …upstanding at least. For this dwarf is a thief, a rogue, an occasional murderer and somewhat of a bastard. He is an excellent jeweler though, whether gem-cutting or designing and crafting a fashionable necklace for aristocratic ladies. He quickly realized that as he was a skilled jeweler, he could make stolen jewels change form and be sold again, not at black market value, but at high street value. He had been caught with his hand in the cookie jar a couple of times, but with the backing of the guild of jewelers those circumstantial cases were thrown out against this fine upstanding dwarven craftsman. I say "is", but he died, so I guess "was"? But turns out he "is" again ...let me just tell you how he went from "is to a "was". On a trip to deal with the Kellid people in Kenabres, where he was told of fortunes in gems available at rock-bottom prices, he got caught up in a war with the forces of the Abyss. Reluctantly he participated, hoping to gain riches, he found himself drawn in, ready to fight for ideals greater than money. Making it into the Citadel of Drezen he was eventually betrayed by Kiranda as she stabbed him in the back, figurately AND literally, as he sought to kill Staunton Vhane. As he was being beaten to a bloody mess by Vhane’s half-fiendish minotaurs, Nordri still believed he made the right choice in fighting for good.

![]() hahahaha! You are more insane than Abdul Alhazred. This idea is nuts, I'm a big Lovecraft fan so I'll join. I'll take Gustaf Johansen, I'm Icelandic and I have ancestors that were sailors at that time, I'll channel their spirit for this. I'll grab my Call of Cthulhu and re-read the parts Gustaf was in for this. ![]()
![]() Ok I've changed to Paratrooper - Operator, to give us a bit more variety. It also makes me better at sneaking around, laying traps and using demolitions, but I'm not as good in combat. @Browman: Paratroopers have operate "trucks" is that considered "heavy duty vehicles? I'll be posting with my alias soon, need to finish background and companion later. wounds: 1d5 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
@Anna Oh didn't notice you here (Scorpelio), I'm a paratrooper as well so we've got a synchronized trait with sneaking. This time YOU're the medic :D ![]()
![]() Advanced Recon - Weapon specialist WS: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (8, 6) + 20 = 34
RR: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (2, 2) + 20 = 24 for T (I hope I can keep the old one) Swapping S and Fel I'll be a sneaky scout type, mono-machete between my teeth and a silenced main gun. Finishing him tomorrow ![]()
![]() I like the loadout slots idea as well. Makes it dead simple and serves the same purpose as weight system. It also offers the possibilities of modification of slots for some class. Let's say a "grenadier" might be able to carry 5 grenades in a slot etc. Keep us updated on thoughts and plans for this, it sounds like an interesting campaign. ![]()
![]() OOh! Sign me up for this one as well :D Since Binerith ;) (ULTRAGEEK) is going for heavy weapons specialist I was thinking a "commando/scout/guerilla" type (Kinda like a Catachan, or the Raven Guard I never made). Sneaky, big shiny knife, good with explosives, can survive in the wild. Do you want us to give you a clearer idea from the Only War books? ![]()
![]() I'll make an alias for him and write a little description. I tried to keep to the style of military tradition noble. So he wears a high quality mono-sword and pistol at all times. In addition to that a military style mono combat knife and a backup pistol on the chest. A mix of soldier and noble. To nobles he's like a soldier, "but more so much more elegant and refined" (use noble old lady's voice to read that). To grunts, he looks a bit more like an officer in a propaganda film. ![]()

![]() I have several rule-clarifications I need before finalizing my character: 1) if I have "Swift Attack" (as a full action you may make 2 attacks), and I have a weapon in each hand ("Ambidextrous" + "Two-weapon wielder" as well) can I make 2 attacks with EACH hand? 2) I keep looking for the benefits of using a weapon in each hand, but it seems that taking 2 half-actions (attack+attack) is the best choice, can you do this? 3) I was thinking of going for 2 melee weapons, but I see no benefits to it. Am I missing something? (still only allowed 1 parry, right? The only benefit I see in using 2 weapons is 2 pistols since I can choose to shoot semi-auto or full-auto for lots of possible hits. 4) "Furious Assault" doesn't mention this is only in melee, can I use it ranged? Sorry for all the questions, I swear I'm a roleplayer, not a rollplayer ;D Just as the identity of the character is quite heavy on his fighting style I wanna make sure I'm doing it right ![]()
