I will be traveling internationally the next couple of weeks with pretty full schedules. I'll likely not post much during this time. Feel free to bot my character.

Vlad, newly cleaned from the washroom, feels much better until they come face to face with the pulsing artifact.

Knowing little about magic, he knows enough not to touch something this powerful that he doesn't understand.

"What is it?" he wonders aloud. "Is this the thing responsible for the desolation here? How would we destroy it?"

Unless someone has some skills that could help us understand it through observation, I'm guessing we need to find texts or investigate more.

Vlad wrinkles his nose in disgust at the stuff still clinging to him.

"I'll be fine," he says. "Though a bath would be welcome," he says.

I'm trying to remember where we haven't explored. Is it south we haven't gone yet?

I didn't realize I could 5' step still. I'll do that.

Vlad looks at his goo-covered chest, barely able to keep from vomiting. He is able to manage one attack in retaliation, though not with his typical force.

Vlad is surprised that the thing emerges from the wall. Too far away to full attack, he steps forward to deal one powerful blow.

"I agree--if we could trick the recipient into thinking they are communicating with this chap," he says, pointing a thumb toward Valthazar, "we might find some helpful information. Lola, you up for that?"

Vlad listens to Damian explain his theories and nods slowly.

"It does seem strange--though perhaps this is the case where the Whispering Way doesn't want their high-level plans leaked by letting too many people know about it. Still..."

He looks with disgust at what appears to be his former corpse and those of his companions.

"It kind of feels like we need to dispose of that. Burn it, or something," he says.

Vlad, heedless of any harm the doppelganger zombies might cause him, strikes twice at the Marya clone.

"Glad--to be of service!" he responds to her.

Vlad wastes no time, shrugging off the enemy's hex and stepping direction toward--himself. Or at least the zombie version of himself.

"Let's see if you like scars as much as I do!" he bellows, stepping forward and swinging the plundered scythe.

Scowling, he says "You have something that belongs to me."

He glances over at the undead version of himself.

"Release these and we can discuss turning yourself in."

Vlad is shocked and outraged at this sudden turn of events.

It is all he can do to keep from slaying this man without discussion, then somehow killing his own body.

But morbid fascination, as well as knowing that the more well-spoken members of the group might obtain necessary information, keep him from acting rashly.

He barely suppresses a sneering growl.

Vlad frowns at the room one last time, then turns at Coral's prompt.

"Yeah--it's like in the past and present at the same time--or something," he says.

He then heads toward the northwest section of rooms, along with Coral in the lead.

With Roll20 it is kind of hard to keep track of where you have been... maybe I need to take on the Mapper role like in the old Red Box days...

Vlad binds the documents carefully together and places them to the side.

"Well--they look like something of worth. Also, purple worm venom does not sound like a joke. Let's hope we don't encounter that."

He examines what appears to be a pair of bedrooms to the south. "I guess this was their quarters?" Not sure if that was part of our search already. If so, should we continue down the hallway past Feena?

Vlad spits, then surveys the health of the group.

"How are we doing?" he asks. "Everyone alright?"

He stoops and examines a couple of the papers. "This could take a minute--but might be worth seeing what all this says."

Vlad watches in admiration as Lola strikes. Not letting up himself, he presses the attack.

"'Bien hecho'--I think you would say!"

Vlad sneers at the enemies as he steps past the crimson scythe toward the enemy.

"You don't look like royalty to me!" he says. "Except that you're gonna be royally dead!"

He swings at the spiked creature in front of him.

Vlad hefts the breastplate and shakes his head. "Not for me--this would slow me down too much. Plus, I'm already wearing a breastplate--but one made out of mithral. Much better for my speed. Someone else, perhaps."

Vlad hefts the warhammer when Coral hands it to him.

"Sarenrae, huh?" he asks, examining it carefully.

"Yeah, if anyone else wants it, be my guest. I already have a warhammer. But this one does look nicer than what I have."

Anyone else can have it if you want. Or I'm happy to take it.

My wife had surgery this week and I'm trying to catch up. Please feel free to bot me until I'm back.

"Good eye--as always," Vlad says. "I haven't felt pain in a while--want me to disarm it my way?" he jokes.

I already have +1 natural armor from my class. So I'll pass on those if anyone else wants them.

Vlad nods at Damian. "That's what I was thinking. We need to find this 'VQ' and see what he--or she--knows. Too bad these ladies don't seem eager to point us in the right direction," he frowns, gesturing at the dead cultists.

I'd vote for give chase--come back when we have a minute. If others agree, I'll chase and have 40' movement. If not, I'll pause and watch the door while others search.

Vlad tries to remain patient, bristling internally at the thought of Roslar's Coffer and the many killed there, including his uncle. He tries to hide his growing anger, lost in his own thoughts.

Vlad smirks as the situation unfolds but is wise enough to let Luna take the lead on talking.

He examines a fresh scar down his shoulder as she responds.

Vlad raises an eyebrow at the pair.

Anything here cannot be good.

He steps forward, going along with the misunderstanding.

"Yeah, we're the new recruits. What qualities are you looking for in recruits," he asks, nearing the pair.

"Hmm--maybe we should just leave it, then?" Vlad asks skeptically.

"Alright--well, we can leave it there if that's possible," Vlad says, swallowing hard.

"I can go grab it--what's the worst that can happen?" Vlad asks.

"Right?" he says, doubt in his voice.

Vlad points at the emerald gem.

"That seems worth checking out," he says to Coral. "You want to take a look at it, or you want me to?"

Vlad isn't very injured but thanks Damian for healing him. With his scythe on one shoulder, he prepares to explore the northern stairs with Coral at the front.

I think I'm topped off.

Vlad squares his scarred shoulders and takes the lead with Coral.

"Yeah--better not mess with well-set traps. Probably not worth the risk," he concedes.

Vlad blinks and shakes his head as if waking from a long slumber. When Coral moves to disarm the trap, he stands back but watches her for any signs of danger.

"What do you think? Can you take care of the trap?" he asks.

"At least they warned us," he says. "But why in Orc?"

Vlad thanks Damian for the healing.

"You've kept us all alive, friend. No need to apologize," he says.

Vlad smirks at Corals' quip. "Ha--of course I missed you! Look at all the wounds I earned without you to harass the enemy!" he says.

"I probably do need a little healing before we continue on," he says to Damian.

"Please," he says, after realizing it sounded more like a demand than a favor.

Vlad takes another pair of wounds from the sharp claws of the enemy. he responds in kind, wildly flailing with his scythe.

"I find enlightenment in the pain!" he exclaims.
