![]() There's also the fact that the Paizo folks (even before DSP released their psionics stuff) have said that they've never liked the OGL psionics system and didn't like point-based casting. So, they're hitting that same niche using systems they like instead of using systems they don't like. They're also simplifying a lot of things in their version, because players (and their GMs) are already used to Vancian and don't need to learn a new system. Their new psychic magic system should be compatible with the current magic stuff and won't have any weird bypasses that people complained OGL psionics had. Spell-Like Abilities, Knowledge (Arcana), Spell-Resistance, Use Magic Device, and Spellcraft type things will interact with psychic magic the same way they do with divine and arcane spells instead of needing specific psionic names for things that do pretty much the exact same thing. You don't need new versions of those just to do psychic magic as you did in OGL psionics. Metamagic feats can be used instead of special augment rules for each and every power. There aren't completely unique schools and subschools that only show up in OGL psionics which means that they can interact with existing feats, abilities, spells, and immunities much better. Diviniation -> Clairsentience, Conjuration -> Metacreativity, etc. ![]()

![]() The PDFs are an interesting case, because you have people that will buy the $10 PDFs who normally wouldn't spend what Paizo should be charging for a product like that as well as people who buy the book from their friendly local gaming store and then come and buy the PDF from Paizo.com. That price point adds a lot of additional sales they normally wouldn't see if they did a PDF that was only 20% cheaper than the actual book. Plus, you also run into the situation that if you take away the retail markup, the distributor markup, and the costs of printing a physical book, then Paizo is likely making as much profit on the $10 PDF as they are on the physical book. However, you're right. There are likely a lot of people who are just cheap that buy the $10 PDF who could have bought a physical book or a higher priced PDF. Of course, I'm talking out my butt and taking inferences based on simple economics. edited one sentence to make it read better. ![]()
![]() Odraude wrote: Also I recall (perhaps incorrectly) that the hardcovers are sold at a loss. And considering the hardcovers are all on OGL SRD for free, I'm inclined to believe that. I severely doubt that. The Core Rulebook was what pulled Paizo's butt out of the fire when WotC went to 4th Ed. If Paizo was making a loss on those, they wouldn't be in business long enough to have made the rest of their books. Their hardcovers are priced similarly to other companies. Which means, that if Paizo is selling theirs at a loss, then everyone else is selling at a loss as well. Your math just doesn't add up. The only thing that I've heard that sells close to a loss (but still makes the barest of profit) is the Beginner's Box. That's because they stack as much into that box as they can and want to put it at an affordable price point. ![]()

They're doing psychic magic (not 3.5 Psionics) and adding 6 new classes that take advantage of them. The book will also concentrate on other occult mysteries and powers. I imagine it will be similar to the Occult Mysteries book the campaign line did recently, but expanded and with some extra goodies sprinkled in for good measure. The psychic magic classes will be up to 9th level casters, standard Vancian model (not power points like 3.5 psionics) with the source being psychic instead of divine or arcane. Play tests will be "soon". So, probably October to January time frame. ![]()
![]() MMCJawa wrote: Depends...if the book is set up like Mythic Adventures, they might just have a section in it with psychic monsters. Granted Mythic Adventures just had mythic versions of already published monsters, so we might still need a new bestiary for new psychic beasts. Bestiary 4 had a whole mess of mythic monsters in it. However, the campaign line will probably have a bunch of psychic monsters which are Golarion specific. Bestiary 5 will likely have more campaign generic ones. ![]()

![]() Look at it this way. The game needs people playing all the time. The settlements should be large enough that there will be people playing all the time. This isn't like WoW where you've got your raid group that does Wednesdays and Saturdays at 7pm. There's always going to be things going on and things to do. Personally, I'd rather my settlement had people from timezones around the world so that we're always active and about. So, read their blurbs. Look them up on the forums and see what others are saying about them. Send their members messages and ask questions. We can't decide your group for you. Pick what seems awesome to you and hopefully it will be. Oh, and Tavernhold is the best. ![]()
![]() It actually cheats... it doesn't read threads. It reads user RSS/Atom feeds and parses the XML from that. It also ignores anything not in the PFO forum. And it does all of this every 5 minutes. It doesn't actually know what a thread looks like. Other than manually entering in the entries, I don't have anything to add it in. ![]()
![]() Unofficial Land Rush Leaderboard Got bored and fixed a bug in the info pulls (the bug only happens once per week, so it's likely nothing you've noticed). Also, I added an additional column. Each settlement's ranking change from the previous week.
