With every second that passes, Vinas frantically looks for a new exit. His mind begins to picture the worst. He sees Atium's broken body, he sees Vanyan's burned corpse. The visions just keep getting worse. then (148/199)
Suddenly, finally... he escapes. He doesn't leave the field. He stays until he falls down. He stays looking for the bodies of his friends. He stays looking for direction from Ioemadae. He stays until he collapses in prayer... "The cost? What now?"
Doing better than he has any right to expect, Vinas still struggles to find an entrance as the maze itself attacks him.
for Close, but still stuck, Vinas looks frantically for the exit. "This is the only thing preventing you from slaying me you coward! FACE ME!"
"THERE IS NO ESCAPE! YOURE DEATH SHALL BE FINAL!" Vinas charges again:
With a faith so absolute that his heart keeps a calm rhythm, Vinas turns his wings back and locks his eyes on this evil. "Iomedae, see me. If I shall perish here, now, I humbly pray that you grace me with your approval." He dives forward, streaking through the sky.

Vinas dodges what he can. Once he hear's Tess's voice, he then starts up with a flurry of action. He'll immediately cast one of his most potent spells, taking on the form of an angel! and move to follow Atium. (If at the end he can see the tyrant, he'll declare smite)
"IOMEDAE!"
"With our chests we hold the keys to victory. We have become magically attuned to his horrific power. If we can get sloe enough to him, he shall reap what he hath sown. The key then, is to get close enough for him to fall to his own magic. I do not pretend to understand the how of such magic, but I do have faith in it."
Vinas is eager to plan... and execute, but agrees that we need more information.
"We're aiming to do more than that if you ken my meaning. That means we can't stick around, but is there anything we can do here and now before we go?"
The breath washes over the paladin:
The wounds immediately add up as the paladin is badly damaged. He quickly patches himself up a bite before unloading on the dragon

His training, faith, and fury combine into a release of his righteous rage in order to smite the beast. He dashes forth, blade ready: for and
Vinas closes in, running faster with each stride. Finally he turns into a literal streak of lightning, materializing on the far side of the beast.

Trusting his cloak, armor, and faith. Vinas closes in with a desire to smite this thing evident in his war cry: for and

Vinas nods. It's no bluff. Tess's words are the truth.
Vinas helps Vanyan cut it out.... and uses the opportunity to check the shard itself for evil.
Finally toe-to-toe, Vinas opens up with a barrage. Tempting as it is, he holds back from his righteous smite. THREAT

Easily keeping his wits about him, he closes to fight:
Not typically one with weaponized words, Vinas goads Atium on, "Your time has come, and your doom is nigh!"
Vinas takes the vast majority of the arrows on the shield! He steps to the front line and takes the troop on his own, "Behold the might of Good. Fall again and enjoy the afterlife!" He saves his most potent power for the battles to come, but does channel some of his holy power into his opening attack: for and AND
Vinas stops his advance as the colossus falls. He turns to the closest cluster of troops and holds his holy symbol aloft, "Tar-Baphon! You'll not sully the righteous dead!" He then channels to harm the undead,
Vinas casts a spell of Grace to slide closer to the monstrosity. Then he sets to work with his holy blade! "FOR LASTWALL!", fighting defensively as he does so. for and
Vinas focuses his righteous rage to smite the foe, and then closes in. "Tess, let's see some of that magic!"
Seeing the grim resignation on the faces of many, most his own age, Vinas takes a moment to address them. "Fear not your fate for you cannot lose this day! The sun will either set upon you to rise the next, or you shall find yourself before Pharasma recounting how you died protecting the world from her most hated enemy, the undead! It's time to be immortal, because heroes never die!"
Believing in his own words completely, he gives Vanyan a genuine smile, "Indeed. Let's."
Vinas spends what he can on what he can think of. What he really looks for a either a new headband, or someone willing and able to improve the one he has.
Vinas looks over the party's gear. He pulls aside a few things that he thinks would be useful:
Vinas doesn't bat an eye. A death such as this is more than he could hope for. Still, he won't throw it away. "Let us take 1 day. Is there an opportunity to supply ourselves before we go?"
Vinas knows that at times like this, symbols can be as important as anything else. He holds his head high, and returns the gaze of anyone who looks at him. His expression is of determination, but not the grim face of a haggard soldier, but of a man who knows that he has the winning hand and needs only the chance to play it.
On the way into the tent, he recounted their tale, and asked to be interrupted when a question or opportunity entered the guide's mind.
Unable to lie, and unwilling to sugar coat the truth, Vinas's posture stays rigid as he speaks, "Remember, Lastwall is merely a place.... though that place has fallen. Mind you, we have watched the souls who defended it stay strong and regroup. Iomedae willing, I and my friends will visit righteous vengeance upon the Tyrant." Worried that the truth might be overwhelming, he stops talking, but continues to walk in order to keep delays to a minimum.
Vinas checks the straps on his armor and shield, nods, and then moves to meet with them.
Vinas, with a taciturn frown, follows Aishe.
Clearly torn, and likely of one mind to Aishe... Vinas clenches his jaw, and stay silent. He'll share his thoughts once safe, but he opts for the bigger evil... for now. and goes to see what other threads make up this tapestry.
"I admit that I struggle with this.... An evil who walks the land is a greater threat to life than an abstract deity. Go on, but with more than a story. What are we really talking about for the immediate future?"
Vinas too stands ready for battle, and takes not a seat. "I have pledged to destroy the Tyrant. While I do not ascribe to the notion that the enemy of my enemy is a friend.... I will not lose sight of my strategy for a tactical victory." ... "You have one chance to save yourselves from righteousness. Speak clearly and objectively."
Vinas focuses his senses to check for evil....
"What? He is my enemy! I am a paladin of Iomedae! What is this?"
Quietly, Vinas whispers, "I'm tired of letting evil go." He looks at Vanyan and slides to the side juuust a bit, so he's not in the doorway. He turns and nods. His meaning is clear, Bring them death
"I suggest we examine this room first before checking any side halls."
"And we will continue to do so!" Quiety, Vinas swears a pair of oaths, "Blessed Iomedae and Torag. I swear to devote myself to the destruction of the undead within this place, and to destroy the Prime Evil pulling the strings behind all of this darkness." Once done he stands, looks at the others, and is ready to move on.
"Vanyan... what goes into these oaths? What're you talking about?"
Vinas, whose mind has been wandering, snaps back to reality. He mulls over the oath.... |
