While Xander goes to the university to deal with the arcanists, Valais goes with Unafe to the bed-and-breakfast. For a librarian, she was tough, but the limits of her willing endurance had been reached during the long flight through the desert. She has definite mixed feelings about the service from the slave, and tries to push the girl off so she can do anything that needs to be done, including serve food, pour drinks, run herself a bath, or whatever else it is that needs to be done. She invites the slave girl to relax in the room with them rather than rush off to do more work.

"Listen," she says, "If any of your bosses ask, I'll just tell them we were working you really hard."

Unafe and Xander and Innkeeper:
Valais wrests herself free from Unafe's grip and steps up next to Xander as well. She flips her golden hair and fixes the woman before them with an angelic stare. "He's right," she adds. "We're only fleeing from some personal danger. We mean you no harm. I see that this place isn't exactly in working order. Do you think you could point us somewhere that we could stay?"

Valais clings tightly to Unafe's feathers and leans down to hug the woman's immense and muscular form. Without much she can do to directly solve the situation, she decides to support Unafe's escape by trying to trip up the pursuers. Twisting around in her position, she summons a bright glowing light into her hand and then flings it at the spellcasting Legionnaire. If her aim was good, then the Legionnaire would have to slow.

Valais spends 1 SP and uses Bound Light on the casting Legionnaire.

If it hits, the target is entangled, glows, and must make a DC 16 Fortitude save or become staggered.

Valais wakes up grumpy, realizing where she is by the dryness of a finger immersed in sand beside her bedroll. Quickly, she rolls up onto her feet, rubbing sleep from her eyes. When Unafe shoots up to a larger size she grabs the woman's bag and uncertainly climbs up on top of her.

With the Legionnaires out of her sight, Valais just sighs and tries to wriggle into a more comfortable position. Looking up at Unafe's monstrous saurian face, she suggests hopefully, "It could be soon that we take a break? This isn't the most comfortable."

Valais yelps briefly as she is lifted up and pulled out from the entangling sand by Unafe, and she screws her eyes shut while they sail through the air. The heavy landing shakes her about and fills her with the realization that this is a profoundly rare experience, one which she must survive free to write about.

Valais readies an action to use Repelling Light (animals) if the camel riders continue to pursue.

Valais cries out as she is mired in sand by the spell. She struggles against the confines of being partially-buried, groaning with frustration.

Seeing her superior escape, Valais scrambles to her feet. She would go after him (and get away from the cops, avoiding arrest) if she could. Having been confined once in a dungeon, and the results of that confinement having been profane surgical dissection, Valais dreads returning to confinement.

Luckily, she is able to slip between spaces due to her Heavenly experiences. After climbing to her feet, Valais sticks her tongue out at the Legionnaires before vanishing in a sudden rainbow flash of light. She aims in the direction that she saw Unafe leap, but attempts to appear even further.

Valais stands up and then uses her Warp sphere ability (along with 1 SP) to teleport medium range. She travels in the same direction she saw Unafe leap.

Valais is taken aback by the sudden explosion, and clutches her book to her chest while Ary pushes her out from harm's way. She uncurls from her position to find a sudden standoff -- some people unwilling to surrender, but also unwilling to fight. Others who look ready for battle. She looks to Xander for direction, and idly wonders if she can start scribing again already.

Valais stays silent, not having anything pertinent to add to the situation. Instead she prefers to scribe about the situation. She stands, and with her notebook held open in one hand, she writes with the other, the scratching of her pen her only audible contribution.

'And so the Heroes of Kenabres prepared themselves, despite the imminent danger to their allies and the urgency of their overall mission, to be arrested and sent to jail. With no way to contact Ehren or Isilme, the mission seemed to be in jeopardy...'

As tired as she is, Valais scrambles out of her tent when Xander calls that something is out there. Rather than a weapon, she pulls her notebook out of her pack, as well as her kitharodian pen, which jumps up hovering in anticipation of dictation. Her new Heavenly body thrums with power, giving her enhanced extrasensory perception to better view events.

Valais gains markedly less.

She takes a level of Pathfinder Chronicler (now her 3rd). Her bardic performance ability improves to that of a 4th-level bard (+2 rounds/day being her current only benefit). She also gains improved aid, so her aid is now worth +4.

Her bardic knowledge improves to that of a 6th-level bard, giving her an additional +1 bonus.

She gains +10 hp, +1 BAB, +1 to her Fort save and +2 to her Reflex and Will saves (from both resistance and base saves). She gains +1 natural armor.

She gains 7 skill points. 1 goes into Bluff, Craft (traps), and Profession (scribe), and 2 go into Perform (oratory) and Knowledge (planes).

She also gains +1 to her Constitution score, bringing that to 16. She gains +8 additional hp (bringing her total to 86) and +1 to her Fort.

Valais steps up behind Unafe. Calling the holy fire into her hands once again, she reaches forward and tries to soothe the least of the Sarkorian warrior-woman's wounds. She would try to heal the nearest Wintersun, but Heaven's magic only helped those who lead paths of righteousness.

Without much else to do, Valais forms a small node of heavenly fire in one hand. She calls out, "The creature is resistant to the elements in the same way that demons are, but it is weak to magical weapons. A warrior is the best weapon to use against it!"

Then she hurls the little bit of divine flame at the creature, hoping to add to its wounds just a little and help out her compatriots.

Valais moves into the larger room where the fight (not against disabled barbarians) has migrated to. Seeing the demonic stegosaurus up closer prompts her to flip through some notes in her journals about half-fiends. After a few moments' scanning, she calls out some battle advice. "The creature is not a demon in the true sense," she shouts, "its hide is only vulnerable to magic weapons, not cold iron."

Valais moves and activates her bardic performance Naturalize. As long as she maintains it, allies within 30' of her gain +1 insight to attack, AC, and saving throws vs. the demonic stegosaurus. She is still radiating light, making it difficult for humans to approach her.

Once again, Valais emits light. Her light is softer and more consistent this time. It exerts force on humans this time, keeping them from drawing closer to Valais. She's not a puissant warrior, so she isn't looking forward to standing up against the Wintersun barbarians.

Valais spends 1 spell point to use Repelling Light. She chooses humans, who have to make a DC 17 Fortitude save to move closer to her.

Valais and Xanderghul shuffle about, switching places so that neither are threatened by the Wintersun clan warriors but that neither is farther away from their enemies as well. Then Valais draws on her most powerful attack. Instead of a soft glow, or even the repelling glow that keeps foes from drawing closer, she bursts up with powerful light all in one blast. Evil creatures would be scoured clean from the longhouse, while good and neutral creatures would largely be spared.

Damage: 3d8 ⇒ (3, 4, 8) = 15 Evil creatures make a DC 17 Will save or become blinded for 1 round. Success at the save means half damage. Neutral creatures take half damage (with the save for an additional half) and do not become blinded.

Valais activates her Improved Planar Infusion to use holy smite as an SLA, centered on herself. A yellow circle indicates the targets.

Valais frowns. "That name doesn't sound so familiar..." she mutters, scribing it (Marhevok Two-Fists) into her journal. "Ehren, would you mind asking what the deal is with the dying saurians?"

Valais, meanwhile, approaches Unafe. She shows the woman her sketch of the dinosaur. "When you have a moment, I'd love your input regarding the specific changes that the corruption wrought on this creature. I'd imagine the rotting feathers and the red eyes are among the changes, but I believe you said this creature is typically passive?"

With her notebook ready, she asks questions until Unafe dismisses her. Questions like, "what did this creature eat to get so big?" and "Where might we find a nest?" and "What was the family structure like for this creature?"

Valais, meanwhile, begins to radiate light. The light exerts a physical force against members of the animal kingdom. With a little luck, it would keep the creature from advancing towards her. If Unafe chose to retreat and take shelter behind her, it could keep the Demetae warrior safe as well. Of course, Valais simply hoped that the creature chose to attack Ary.

Wild Magic?: 1d100 ⇒ 80 Nope!

Valais spends an FRA and a spell point on Repelling Light. Animals must make a DC 16 Fortitude save to move closer to her.

If attacked, she will spend another spell point to use Avert as an immediate action, causing the attack to miss unless the attacker succeeds at a DC 16 Will save.

Valais cowers before the immense creature. She knows that if she tries to move away, it will strike out in retaliation. If the blow that carved into Unafe was any indication, it would quickly be able to kill her. Instead of attempting to retreat, she hunkers down into a defensive posture and radiates an aura of space manipulation. If the creature attempted to strike at her, she would be able to use physical magic to avert the strike.

She watches the battle between Unafe and the dinosaur carefully, attempting to record every detail in her memory for her notes.

Valais assumes full defense and prepares her Avert ability. If the therizinosaurus attacks her, she will use it as an immediate action to force it to make a DC 16 Will save, failure meaning the attack misses.

Valais cranes her neck to see ahead, but there are too many trees and ferns and other plants in the way. Forging ahead through them was possible, but it would take forever, and she might not get a look at this demonic dinosaur before it had been killed.

Unacceptable. She pulls herself together, drawing on the Heavenly magic she had been infused with. Angels were able to teleport, and so was she. She could bypass the difficulty of the terrain and move directly to the fore.

She appears right next to Unafe without incident, her notebook and inkpen in hand, ready.

Sliding notebooks into her pockets, Valais comes to stand next to Xander, who is still sitting on a rock.

"While we're in the area, shall we investigate the Lake Lost to the Sun? It would be interesting to confirm some of the legends surrounding its deadly dangers."

Valais knows without a doubt that her teacher is tempted by that sort of deal. Five thousand gold was barely enough for a simple magic item, and this traveler was apparently offering an artifact. With an inner smile, Valais decides to interject to try and bring the price down before Xander can accept. "Sir," she begins, "We are leaders of a nation at war. Every gold piece we spend is one not being spent on a healing potion or a sword for a frontline soldier."

"I'm not sure if you've noticed, but the Professor here is also an educator who takes in orphans. Money spent on this unknown rod you have would take away the funds for that, as well. Could we convince you to lower it just a little bit? For the orphans?"

Valais takes Xanderghul's orders seriously. She is unnerved by the appearance of the skeletons, and it takes away her focus enough that she's unable to use her magic. Using her hasted speed, she leaps back over the lava pit and jogs up towards the surface, searching for clean air.

Valais looks at the entrance at the cave wistfully as the group decides to move in for deadly combat. However, the deadly combat was swiftly resolved when Unafe proved to have just as much arm dexterity as could be feared. Valais knows that the group has to make its escape from this place before she can make the appropriate notes regarding the situation. She also sees that the group might want to try to talk these creatures down before needing to fight all of them.

She lopes back towards the entrance to get up to speed and then takes a running jump over the volcanic rift, using her haste-given speed to accelerate across the chasm. She comes to a stop over the course of a few loping steps and gets to the center of the group. Thus protected, she begins to emit her own light. Infusing some of Heaven's energies into the light allows her to try to repel the skeletons.

Valais runs to her present location, using Athletics to clear the gap. Once there, she uses her Glow ability on herself. She spends a spell point to activate Repelling Light, choosing undead. Undead must make a DC 16 Fort save in order to approach her within the light. It has a radius of 20'.

Valais rushes in alongside Xanderghul. She isn't quite as fast as he, nor as tough, nor can she fly. She wheezes against the toxic fumes, but manages to keep her composure for the time being. She stands on the edge of a volcanic vent, her eyes narrowed through the fumes at the demon. "I think I remember this one from my books... something about blasphemy?"

No matter what it was, it was a demon. It would corrupt and kill. She draws up the holy energy her body now brimmed with into her hands, which begin to glow. After a few seconds of concentrating on a ball of light in between her hands, she casts it at the demon.

If it strikes the demon, it fully envelops the demon in a binding of light, slowing its movement and potentially preventing planar travel.

Valais uses an extra move action to go into the room and then uses her Light sphere Glow ability as a FRA on the demon. If it hits, she spends a spell point to use Bound Light.

The demon, if bound, is entangled. It makes a DC 16 Fort save or is staggered. It needs to make a DC 15 CL check to use planar travel. It also radiates bright light.

Finally beginning to feel the heat, Valais starts to strip off her cloak. Her books go into her extradimensional pocket, to better protect them against the elements. Her furs and other cold-weather clothing get stuffed into her backpack. "Go," she says. "I will be right behind you."

Realizing the importance of respect for other religions, Valais takes hold of her pen and scribes furiously by hand instead.

Meanwhile, Valais has already withdrawn a blank journal from her pathfinder pouch (a pants pocket that holds several large tomes), along with her kitharodian pen. "The Heroes of Drezen begin a new adventure," she dictates, "When the castle seneschal summons them to the scene of a grisly crime. In Drezen's multidenominational cathedral, there is a shrine to Erastil tended by two young clerics. The shrine's statue has been demolished, with Abyssal runes splashed in blood all over the area. In this next Chronicle, the Heroes will discover the culprit responsible and stop their marauding. But will the missing clerics be discovered in time? Or will the Heroes be too late to save them, timely enough only to avenge?"

As she speaks, her magical pen moves across the page of its own accord, the soft scratching noise accompanying the other sounds of adventuring.

Intuiting that Xanderghul and Isilme would be conversing for awhile, Valais waves for Ayavah to accompany her to the Citadel. "Do you need something from Valaria, Ayavah?" she asks, her tone clipped and official. "We can potentially arrange for you to contact her, if you need to."

As for Asmodia, yeah, I agree that running into her (her being The Heiress, of course) at the job site seems like the best kind of introduction for her at this point.
