So, do we outright kill him now, wait, or take him prisoner?

perception 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28

We should be careful, Ian. I would not like for our remaining enemies in town to strike at us now.

Uriel looks to see if the alchemist is around.

Sorry for not posting sooner. I am currently working back 12s... 1800 to 0600 and it is wearing me out.

I can live with that and so can Uriel. :D Bad rolling by us and it just being a beast makes it difficult for the two of us.

Uriel continues to strike at the worm.

mechanics:

full attack with scimitar

first attack 1d20+12 (18-20)x2 damage 1d6+4
1d20 + 12 ⇒ (7) + 12 = 19
damage if a hit
1d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
confirmation on the chance the first attack was a natural 18-20
1d20 + 12 ⇒ (5) + 12 = 17
damage if a hit
1d6 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

second attack 1d20+7 (18-20)x2 damage 1d6+4
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
damage if a hit
1d6 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
confirmation on the chance the first attack was a natural 18-20
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
damage if a hit
1d6 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10

Uriel quickly strikes at the marauding worm.

mechanics:

damage 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5

attack 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
damage 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

Uriel quickly strikes at the worm as it rushes Ian.

mechanics:

attack
1d20 + 12 ⇒ (15) + 12 = 27
damage
1d6 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

confirmation just in case the natural roll above is an 18-20
attack
1d20 + 12 ⇒ (13) + 12 = 25
damage
1d6 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

I am assuming we are still on same initiative. Ian's turn then Uriel's, IIRC.

Does Uriel get an AoO for it bullrushing Ian while he (Uriel) was adjacent to it?

Uriel works his way through the wreckage in order to attack the worm.

ride 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28

attack 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (14) + 12 = 26

damage 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10

assuming there is a "safe" spot away from others, Uriel drops an alchemist's bomb in hopes of drawing it out or scaring it away. Bombs should do wonders for tremorsense...

Uriel pulls out an alchemist's bomb and throws it a short distance away.

1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19

perception 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25

Once back in combat, Uriel will be restricted to celestial. I mistakenly spoke out in the previous battle when moving away from the worm to attack the hooded creature

Everyone take cover! The worm is returning! Uriel barks as he heeds Ian's words. After that, Uriel says a short prayer to Sarenrae and begins moving toward the middle of town.

standard action cure moderate wounds 2d8 + 4 ⇒ (8, 5) + 4 = 17

swift action lay on hands on self 1d6 ⇒ 2

Uriel sheathes his scimitar and steadies Bugler. Next he speaks loudly and clearly to the crowd.

Show me to the wounded so that I may heal them.

Uriel seizes the opening to attack the creature as it tries to drink its potion.

mechanics:

AoO

critical confirmation on a natural 18-20
1d20 + 16 ⇒ (6) + 16 = 22
damage 1d6 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14

Then Uriel quickly continues his attack on the creature.

mechanics:

damage 1d6 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15

I'm still standing Uriel says with a shrug after taking the hit from the worm's maw.

ha! for the heck of it...

1d20 - 6 ⇒ (12) - 6 = 6

Seeing the hooded creature as the greater threat, Uriel risks the worm's maw to move and attack the it.

"it" being the hooded creature

mechanics:

hopefully, Uriel doesn't get stopped along the way. :(

move action: move to attack the hooded creature.

standard action attack w/+1 scimitar

attack 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (11) + 16 = 27
damage 1d6 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11

reflex? uh oh

1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27

whose turn is it?

Uriel shrugs off the creature's draining touch.

Uriel carefully re-evaluates his enemy and strikes again in a howl of rage.

mechanics:

will save for 1/2 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (10) + 11 = 21
What is DC?

swift action: ranger's focus
Ranger (Guide) Focus 1/day: Swift action to choose focus target and it remains so until reduced to 0 or fewer hit points or Uriel changes focus. Gains +2 to attack and damage against target.

Still in effect: paladin's smite
Paladin Smite Evil 1/day: Swift action to choose one target within sight to smite. If evil adds +2 (Cha) to hit and +2 (Pal lvl) to damage against the target. The damage bonus is +4 (2x lvl) vs. Outsiders with the evil subtype, evil dragons, and undead. Automatically bypasses targets DR. Also gains +2 (Cha) deflection bonus to AC vs target of smite.

As a player, I am still unsure as to whether or not to add the additional damage (+6 as opposed to +3) It would make things easier to receive a clarification on that, thanks.

full attack with +1 scimitar
+16/+11 damage 1d6+9 or (1d6+12)

first attack
1d20 + 16 ⇒ (19) + 16 = 35

1d6 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15 (additional +3?)
confirmation on a natural 18-20
1d20 + 16 ⇒ (4) + 16 = 20
confirmation damage
1d6 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11 (additional +3?)

second attack
1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 24

1d6 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13 (additional +3?)
confirmation on a natural 18-20
1d20 + 11 ⇒ (1) + 11 = 12
confirmation damage
1d6 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11 (additional +3?)

By Sarenrae, you shall be defeated. Uriel states as he calls upon his goddess' power and continues to strike with his scimitar.

Spoiler:

swift: smite evil v the being: hopefully it meets one of the special conditions
Paladin Smite Evil 1/day: Swift action to choose one target within sight to smite. If evil adds +2 (Cha) to hit and +3 (Pal lvl) to damage against the target. The damage bonus is +6 (2x lvl) vs. Outsiders with the evil subtype, evil dragons, and undead. Automatically bypasses targets DR. Also gains +2 (Cha) deflection bonus to AC vs target of smite.

1d20 + 14 ⇒ (1) + 14 = 15 crit on 18-20

1d20 ⇒ 18

Doesn't seem to have had any effect as in 'he is unhurt' (DR or such) or as in it passed right through him with no resistance and 'he is unhurt' (something like project image or incorporeal)?

My apologies for not promptly posting (understatement) I am also assuming that since we are acting simultaneously, Uriel would not change his tactics based upon Ian's result...

Uriel charges the hooded figure on his mighty mount, Bugler, with his scimitar ready to strike.

Scimitar +14 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (17) + 14 = 31
damage if hits 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Confirmation, if necessary, natural 18-20 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (12) + 14 = 26
Confirmation, if necessary 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5

I believe we should charge him, immediately. People are dying.

With that, Uriel quickly urges his mount toward the hooded creature.

I got a bad feeling about this

That would work for me

Thank you once again and perhaps we shall return later with information or for guidance. Ian, shall we make toward the town?

I will get that leveling done very soon...

I think I will add another level of oracle (more healing) and another paladin.

The boon is greatly appreciated. Uriel responds, still wondering whether or not the necklace has powers or is merely a child's trinket. He accepts it graciously nonetheless.

Uriel sits quietly, a little too angery at the moment to risk opening his mouth.

Sorry, but I've had company in town and have been otherwise occupied lately.

Uriel looks for a moment at Ian. Then he merely shrugs and speaks...

I guess we will be moving on then. Take care lest one of those escaped worms infests itself in these woods. Also, if we uncover information regarding the strength of these forces we may return to pass the information to you to use as you will...or not. If you are not present we will leave a note with the message for you to find later.

With that, he turns back to Ian

Shall we be on our way to the town? We have an alchemist to meet.

What if while you are waiting for one evil to destroy the other and be left too weak to defend itself from you, one evil becomes so strong as to smite down the other evil and remain standing too tall for you to destroy? Then what?

A fire from Sarenrae appears to light in Uriel's eyes as his anger stirs.

It hasn't worked for the children who were being tossed as slaves to the aboleths. They were not evil. They were not a case of evil devouring itself. That was a case of evil devouring the helpless.

Well, I will gladly await speaking with your father.

Uriel decides to come clean with these youths before him.

Yes. We have work to do in order to rid the village of them but are not sure where to go next. There is also the issue that a significant evil may have escaped capture...

Uriel pauses, then continues.

Some of the cult members pulled out some altar upon which to perform some sacrifice or rite. That is when we killed them. Inside was some form of evil trapped in magic circles and covered in maggots. We closed the covering, then changed our minds and decided to reopen the cover and slay the evil contained within.

We found that whatever had been buried beneath the maggots had escaped. Re-examining the strength of the wards has led us to believe that the evil must have been of immense power to escape. Re-examining the altar revealed it to be filled with countless worm holes which may have been its means of escape through its prison.

At that point I recollected seeing a worm or two slithering away while we were examining the altar and believe that perhaps the evil slipped through little by little and may perhaps now be spreading its influence. I fear both for individuals who may come in contact with these worms and for any natural features such as woods or forests or perhaps a lagoon that may become infected with this evil.

Uriel stops, carefully scrutinizing the reactions of those before him.

There are important things happening in the world that cannot be ignored. We need to talk.

Uriel continues to wait and makes idle chit chat while doing so.

Well, perhaps we should wait for them. Why don't you tell me more of your life here while we wait ,Sparrow.

Ha, ha Uriel responds with a laugh. Treants are trees that can talk and walk around.

My recollection tells me this is a different day than the one we killed the cultists and thus we didn't kill them if she saw them this morning. That is good. :P

When they return, I do not wish them to fear for you since they do not know who we are. Please let them know that we wish to talk to them and mean you no harm. That reminds me, I am Uriel and this is Ian. What is your name? The names of your family who will return?

Are they treants, or druids or perhaps witches? asks Uriel, not even sure whether or not those terms mean anything to the girl. After a pause he continues, When did you last see them?

What does your family look like? Uriel asks, expecting that her description, if she gives one, will be similar to those of some of the cultists he and his friends killed.

...and who might they be? Perhaps we could speak with them?

Considering the dangers, why are you out here alone?

And what might that be? asks Uriel.

As Ian speaks to the whistling girl, Uriel scans her with his power to detect evil.

I am assuming we are in range or moved within range because Ian didn't remark that he needed to scream it. If we moved closer, Sekhet is still watching over the mayor.

I that would be a bad idea. Ian? I will also have Sekhet still up and with us while hiding in a tree. stealth 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (14) + 20 = 34

I will take first watch, Uriel states without mentioning that Sekhet will be also. He then makes sure to dig up any grass etc in a ring surrounding the party so as to take away cover for any worms coming through. He also takes the time to check hte mayor for evil in case a worm made it to him before their return.

Would it be wise to head into town tonight without first resting? Perhaps we should rest overnight and then go into town tomorrow night? Any suggestions?

This would give us the opportunity to be fully healed and have our spells and channeling unused with and gear properly chosen.

Who are the remaining cultists within the town? Uriel asks of thje mayor.

To Ian he asks, What end would we go into the town to pursue?

About the gear, nothing from you (yet). I was just making an ooc comment that I wanted to look over (as a player) what we had recovered in case I wanted some of it or if we wanted to sell it, etc.

Uriel takes the time to summon Sekhet before leavinging.

To the mayor:

I expect that you will repeat to me, in detail, all that you know of the cult and the evil it represented. Understand?

Just a summary/list, no need to type out full quotes unless you just want to, ulgulanoth

To Ian as he looks toward the sky:

I fear that trouble may be brewing. Any particular precautions we may wish to take with regards to the town and its people?

I think we have gathered all the available information from the mayor. I say we pack him up and quickly return to town.

With that Uriel quickly heads toward where the mayor was kept.

Unless something deters us or someone else has another idea, I say we head on abck to town after packing him up. I will try to look at our list of gear from our haul earlier but I haven't done so yet.

We do still have the mayor tied up, don't we?

Uriel quickly scans his surroundings for signs of evil then speaks again,

Perhaps we should quickly tend to our prisoner's safety and return to the town.
