About Unira Waveborn
The many Shackles ports are dangerous places to live. Unira "Waveborn"'s parents were part-time visitors to the lands, being fisherman and guides in the seas beyond and proud undines. However, superstitious pirates make life difficult for these water-adapted men and women- while she was yet in the womb, Unira's parents were abducted and forced onto a pirate ship to serve their masters. Weighed down with iron shackles so they couldn't leap overboard and escape, the two were forced to serve in whatever tasks the men could think of.. Unira's mother in particular.
Born on the ship in the cool months of spring, Unira became attached to the sea and Besmara in a way not completely surprising. Through her early life, she was raised more or less unaware of the truth of the pirates' hold over her family, and only knew that being on the sea was exhilerating to the youngster. Finally escaping when her father managed to saw through his leg irons one night, the trio escaped back to port and moved a distance north and out of immediate danger.
In time, Unira returned to the ports against her parents' advisement, taking up odd jobs and part-time positions on slightly more well-to-do vessels, merchants mainly. Yet always the thrill of the high seas beckoned- as she came of age, she began living life more and more wildly as she sought, and failed, to find a calling that truly fit her. Such is how her tale begins: drunken in a bar, dreaming of adventure on the seas.
