I'm going to bot Roet and say he moves forward and strikes her for 10 damage.

The halfling spits at you, blood mixed into her saliva. "Big talk, lady. There's no way you're taking me." Suddenly, there's a shiny metallic rod in her hand and the room fills up with a green vapor! You cough and retch as it's stetch nearly overwhelms you.

GM screen:

Forts: 4d20 ⇒ (20, 16, 9, 3) = 48
Fort: 1d20 ⇒ 3
Cast defensively: 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (17) + 22 = 39

DC 18 spellcraft:

She just cast a quickened stinking cloud. You know how the spell works.

Everyone but Kazador and the halfling can be heard retching and vomiting in severe pain and distress. Oddly, you also hear a weird retching noise that sounds like a combination of vomiting and hissing at the same time.

Nauseated as long as you remain in the cloud and for 1d4+1 rounds afterward.

Kazador and Roet:

You see a large constrictor snake squeeze up from the 10 ft long crate. It's too busy hacking and coughing and vomiting to attack. The halfling, however, disappears! She has turned invisible. Kazador, you can still see her.

Mel, you missed the DC by 1. Do you have anything that gives you a bonus to fort saves against spells, poison effects, etc?

Everyone up! Perrin bottom of round 1 and everyone else top of 2.

Daisy laughs at Perrin. "If I were willin' to pay that, I'd make it on my own. 400. Final offer." After concluding the bargain (or not), Daisy leaves hurriedly.

Arla then scoops up some coins for herself and breaks her silence "Given this strange exchange, I'll need to find you lodging someplace safe. Please wait at the Central Guardhouse until I return with arrangements."

She means where Mel is.

Daisy pauses and eyes the thing. She casts a spell and turns it over in her hand. "Sure. It's a pretty piece. I'll give ya 300 plat for it." She holds up a substantial purse.

Daisy beams cheerily at Perrin. "My job is to get the information up the chain. My superiors then sort through it and decide what happens. Personally, I'll probably be going to talk to some more folks after I report in." She gets up, sips a bit from a pint held in both hands, and starts to leave the room. "Good day to the lot of you! The drinks and the room are taken care of. Stay as long as you like"

Haha. Funny use of SM I'm fine with that.

SM: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (1) + 14 = 15

Wow. Ok then.

Daisy laughs at Perrin's response. "I'll be sure to do that." She puts the 15 coins offered to the two men back in her purse and waits for your last question.

Daisy smiles and nods graciously, adding 5 coins to Perrin's pile. "Thank ya kindly." She weighs his question carefully for a few moments. "They see such an event as an opportunity, as long as certain factors are in place correctly." She then leans back with a smile. "Last question." 15 coins float up onto Perrin's pile while 15 more hover, inviting response from Kazador."Why does the Elven council want war between the Bishopric and the orcs?"

When Kazador speaks, Daisy shrugs. His 25 coins float over to him. "Then relax while we finish up." She winks and a pint scoots closer to him on the table as well.

Daisy looks at Perrin, somewhat taken aback. Then she shrugs. "There always be some that profit from war. Smiths and the like. Arms merchants. But it's hard to profit from a war ya lose. Nevertheless, there always be shady elements that can profit from anything someone is willin' to pay for."

DC 15 SM:

Daisy honestly doesn't seem to suspect any prominent features of seeking to stoke a war between Helm and one of the greater power.

"My turn again. Now things get interestin'. What's the connection between this Elrin and the attack on yer town?" She leans forward intently.

Daisy smiles cheerfully at Perrin. "Well that be a delightfully broad and vague question. I'd haf to say the odds of some notable armed conflict between two or more significant powers in this land some time in the next decade are considerable." She winks cheekily at Perrin. "I won't charge ya none for that. My turn. What's yer part in all o' this." She looks at all of you questioningly.

Daisy winks at Kazador. "All rightey then. Pose yer real query. But it'll take all day if we go changin' things. Next time, I name my price for a question, take it, then answer. Sound good, sweetie?"

DC 22 SM!!:

Kazador failed his save while Perrin and the Halflings made theirs.

Daisy moves 15 coins off each pile and holds them up. "That's gonna cost ya. Ya sure that's yer question?"

Yes spellcraft works too. You feel as if you could lie if you needed to.

Daisy nods. "Yes that's very interesting indeed." She adds five bright shiny coins to each pile. "Keep it coming. This kind of information is worth rewarding. So what's your next question?" She looks at the silent Dwarf with a half-smile.

Daisy giggles. "A game it is then. My bosses are worried about that Elves may be up to. They know there's somethin' goin' on but they don't know what." Then Daisy draws a pair of scrolls from her satchel. "If you don't mind, I'd like to start playin' in earnest. This first one will make sure nobody interrupts us in hear while the second will make it harder for us to lie to each other." She shows you the scrolls.

Read magic:

They are zone of silence and zone of truth.

This next part proceeds unless someone objects.

Arla fidgets nervously but doesn't object to the proposal. Daisy begins reading from the scrolls. When she reads the second one, you feel a compulsion to honesty come upon your mind.

Roll will saves in a spoiler please.

Daisy looks up at you with a smile. "My turn again. Why were those Elves arrested."

GM screen!!!:

Will: 1d20 ⇒ 12

The Halfling smiles broadly at Perrin and laughs a high, tinkling laugh. ”Straight to business, is it? You don’t even want a pint first?” She points to some frothy beers sitting in tankards at the center of the table. ”Well that’s fine by me. I have lots of information, some of which I can share and some of which I can’t. I want to know who those arrested elves are, why they were arrested, and what yer part was in all of this. I can pay in coin, information, or some combination.” She pulls out a purse and sprinkles three little piles of coin on the table, looking to contain 20 very bright, silvery colored coins in each pile. ”Twenny plat for each o’ ya if ya answer my questions. Extra if the information is good. Less if you want some secrets in return.” She leans back in a relaxed fashion. "So how's that sound?"

I'll assume Arla is game for what you guys are doing since she hasn't been able to post in a few days.

The Halflings walks into a lively tavern with a roughly-painted barmaif sign out front. "I'll be in the private room. Come join me for a drink and a chat."

The halfing smiles very charmingly at Kazador from about twice her initial distance so it's hard to make out but you hear her clearly. "You can call me 'Daisy.' I work for some people who would be VERY interested to know what you know. I'd rather discuss the rest in private."

DC 20 SM due to distance, message, etc:

She doesn't seem to intend you harm. You'rr unsire ofuch else.

DC 10 k arcana:

You think this is the message spell at work.

With a 15, your character knows all the spell's properties. Feel free to look them up.

You all hear Perrin's words in your head as part of the spell, making you realize it has linked all four of you with each other and the Halflings. She smirks and replies "If I wanted to kill ye, I wouldn't get your attention. Why don't we talk? I can pay for information and give some of my own."

The Halflings nods and smiles slightly, though it is hard for you to notice from here.

Perrin:

"Aye that I did. I wanted to be sure to get your attention without gettin' the whole city's. So tell the Dwarf to stop trying to catch flies!"

Arla:

"Aye that I did. I wanted to be sure to get your attention without gettin' the whole city's. So tell the Dwarf to stop trying to catch flies!"

Kazador:

"Aye that I did. I wanted to be sure to get your attention without gettin' the whole city's. So tell the Dwarf to stop trying to catch flies!"

You stand on the street conversing about where to head next after Hannady leaves with the Astin guards.

Arla:

You hear a voice speak into your mind. "Well isn't that interesting. A couple of elves taken into Helmian custody. That's never happened before." You glance around uncertainly for a while then notice a smiling female halfling about 100 feet down the road, sitting on a barrel and staring at your group.
