"If it is a sentry, a 'distraction' is likely to be counter-productive," Ulciscor said. "But 'sneaking' is not a talent Hoar has seen fit to bless me with. So." He shrugged.

Ulciscor "rocks" a +2 Stealth. Which means that he kicks and stumbles upon said rocks, while trying to be sneaky. :-)

Ulciscor returned Dargrim's nod, the corners of his mouth ticking up slightly as the dwarf referred to him as 'lad,' - though whether that was from amusement or pleasure at the informality, one couldn't tell. Ulciscor was almost always smiling, after all.

"Let's be about it, then. Rescue, Retribution, or a little of both."

"'Rarely' doesn't mean 'never,' though."

He seemed undisturbed by either possibility, merely nodding to indicate his readiness to proceed.

Ulciscor first focused on the living, bringing all of the wounded together, away from the dead plant-things. Then he called upon his god.

"Peace has been brought unto the bodies of the fallen, Lord. Grant these souls succor, for having done this good work."

Seeing very little effect from that prayer, Ulciscor looked up at the sky with an exasperated expression. Then his tone changed a bit, and he prayed again.

"Now that Peace, and its reward hath been attained in this place, Doombringer, Grant unto these souls here Thy strength, that they may bring Retribution unto those who have so mistreated the innocent."

Channel: 1d6 ⇒ 5

"Hmph." Ulciscor nodded, as healing energy flowed through him more fully this time. The message was clear - to him, and quite possible to his companions - which aspect of this mission the Doombringer was more fully behind.

With another nod to his companions, Ulciscor turned to the dead. He bowed his head over the bodies, and began the words of the funerary rites. Though they didn't have time to bury these dead now, Ulciscor was not going to cheat the dead of the proper intercession for their souls.

That's 7hp of healing to whoever needs it. For the record, that leaves him with one Channel left for healing today, and MAYBE a CLW, if the DM allows the new slot to be used.

Judging by Locke's "Up and at 'em longer" comment, Kev, I think you can add your new level's HP to your current HP, not just your max. So you should be at 10.

Anyone (specifically the DM) mind if Ulciscor takes 15 minutes to pray over the dead and, coincidentally, fill his two new empty spell slots (one of which he'll probably wind up dumping for CLW...). OR, if that's not Kosher, DM, can he just "convert" that empty slot into a CLW later?

I'm cool with waiting until he prays at dusk to get his full compliment, too, I'm just doing the greedy player thing and looking to get every edge we can (and keep Kev alive longer...). ;-)

For future reference, probably better to wait to make adjustments until after the DM posts his Tranche summary, just in case something happens to prevent actions we're trying to make.

Ulciscor couldn't help but look towards the sky when Kevkas fell, and the plant-thing disgorged more enemies.

"If I'm just here to witness these people receiving Retribution for something they did, please let me know, Lord, and I'll stop wasting Your time," his complaint was soft, and (mostly) in jest. Stepping forward, he called upon the Doombringer in earnest, as he knelt and touched the fallen Kevkas on the shoulder.

"Yea, he who lieth down and letteth his enemy prevail, who striketh him once, inviteth all of his enemies to strike him, alway, and take from him all that he hath. And he who giveth unto his enemy all that he hath shall not be entrusted with more by the Lord, for he hath proven himself a poor steward."

CLW on Kevkas: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

"So get up, you big lug," he said to Kevkas, with a smile, "and teach these things what a mistake it is to oppose us. They're slow learners."

5' to D22 (map updated), drop Entropic Shield for CLW on Kevkas (that should put him at 5hp and awake).

EDIT: And for the record, that's the last time he can do CLW today, since Prot:Chaos is a Domain spell, and can't be dropped. Just an FYI :-)

OK guys and gals...

No one likes playing a character that is only a heal-bot, and Ulciscor is not built to be one, either by stats or by backstory. And yet, I've had almost no actions in any combat so far that aren't healing or buffing or moving to position to heal or buff. I don't mind doing any of the above (I am playing a Cleric, after all), and I know that it'll lighten up a bit as we gain levels, so I'm not griping about it yet.

What I am doing, however, is asking that we get some consistent stat-keeping, so that I know where everyone is, status-wise. Ulciscor will go offensive from time to time, and leave people at less-than full hp, but I'd prefer not to do that in such a way that it leaves characters in (excessive) danger of actual death.

Some of the PCs have status listed on the battle map, some have status listed in their "quick stats" headers, but some don't have status listed anywhere (Gyro, for example, shows no damage on the map, and no damage in his "vitals" bar, but should have at least 4hp of damage, unless he's got some other form of healing going on that I'm not aware of).

ESPECIALLY in a campaign where the DM has stated a dislike for wands of CLW, I have to be pretty choosy where I spend my healing resources, and it's not fun for me to have to scroll back through messages, check the map, and status bars, and keep my own notes to try to figure out who is and isn't hurt, so as to try to keep them alive in the most efficient manner possible.

(It also doesn't help that 3 of our characters are "low-AC, charge into melee" types, ;-) but I can handle that).

The DM has enough to keep track of, without asking him to keep a running list of who's at what status somewhere that I can see it easily, and the battle map is editable by anyone, and subject to mistakes.

So here's the deal/tl:dr: If you don't update your character's "quick stats" or "vitals" or whatever you call the easy-to-see status bar that shows up on your posting windows, it's not Ulciscor's fault if your character dies while he's throwing javelins at the enemy.

Fair warning given. :-)

Yeesh! I really missed the boat on this one, somehow. For some reason, I had thought only Dargrim and Kev had taken damage, but in re-reading, Dargrim, Kev, Lioslan AND Gyro had all taken damage before Ulciscor Channeled. Which means that Gyro should also add an extra hp to his total, as he was also in range of the Channel last turn. And HOLY HELL! This is not looking good for the visiting team.

I hadn't realized that Lioslan was hurt, or I'd have included him in the description. Yeah, he's in range (I think I'm positioned so that the entire party would be in range of a channel - at least, that was my intent).

Seeing the damage being dealt - to both sides - Ulciscor summoned the power of his God, sending a wave of healing energy across the battlefield with a timely prayer.

"Strengthen arms that support Thy cause, bring succor to those who would serve Thy will, and bring Retribution upon those who deserve such."

The wave of healing seemed to pass over the enemy, with no effect. Unfortunately, it seemed that the Doombringer still felt little affection for those Ulciscor had chosen as his companions. Still, little was not the same as none, and Dargrim and Kevkas felt the pain of their wounds lessen somewhat.

Channel, excluding the 4 living enemies within 30'. Dargrim and Kevkas regain 1hp each

Ulciscor frowned.

"They're not undead," he said. "They are dead," he clarified, "the bodies, I mean. I suspect the plants are somehow animating the corpses. I do not know why or how. Be very careful, but those people deserve Justice."

Ulciscor stepped forward and, a prayer of Justice upon his lips, rested one hand on Innocent's shoulder.

"When those who would take from a poor man all that he hath - yea, even his life, and make mockery of him, lo, He shall stand to right what hath been set wrong. By His hand, or by the hand of His servants, it is the same."

Ulciscor returned Lioslan's look of concern - which spoke volumes, given that even during the fighting with the Orcs, he hadn't varied much from his usual, mildly amused expression.

"I am not sure what these things may want of us," he said. "But I doubt they wish us well."

Bringing the Dagger conversation over here.

While it sounds cool, and as a Player, I'm interested in it, I don't think we'd be maximizing the benefit to the party by giving it to the Cleric. Hell, I'm not sure Ulciscor has gotten in a single offensive action in either fight to this point. All you low-armor, charge-into-battle types keep him a bit too busy playing heal-bot.

Ulciscor finally looked up from where he'd seemed to be fascinated with the white powder.

"It's pollen," he said, with a shrug, as if he had been completely unaware of another conversation going on around him. "The statue definitely had something to do with its disbursement, but I haven't figured out any more than that."

Then, showing that the priest had been listening, he shrugged again. "If they discovered some sort of unholy crypt, and what was in it caused their deaths, it sounds as though the Doombringer has already evened their slate. Though the deaths of innocents is not easily balanced by a single death. And who knows what has been released into the world now. Let us go."

Ulciscor followed the others into the foreman's house. He'd been mostly silent throughout the searching, though he had pulled out his book once or twice, and made some notations in it.

He nodded when he saw Innocent's discovery of the journal, but still said nothing. His face, which almost always appeared slightly amused, was almost grim by comparison.

While the others looked through the books, he closed his eyes, centered himself in his faith, and brought forth the guidance of his God with a small, whispered prayer.

"Doom hath been brought to these people, in a way unknown unto us. Father of Justice, if we are to by Thy instruments, show unto us what we need know to bring about the appropriately flavored Retribution unto those who have earned it."

Eyes still closed, Ulciscor began reviewing all of the bodies he'd seen in the camp so far, bringing each to mind, individually, and comparing them.

Ulciscor took Innocent's offering wordlessly, and pocketed the coins. His eyes narrowed when Lioslan returned and reported.

"Let us go. We will find little evidence to help in rendering Judgement from here."

Seeing Lioslan retrieve a purse from the dirt suddenly reminded Ulciscor of something, and he made a mental note to remind Innocent later that the man owed him 5 gold coins.

But for now, he just nodded at the elf's words.

I'm pretty sure that "on the ground and bleeding" was an accurate description of Lioslan right after the worgs tripped him early in that last fight. :-)

You know, or a guy with a +10 to Perception at level one, you'd think Ulciscor would find more stuff.

I think I've made 7 Perception checks so far, and I don't think more than one of them was above a 10 on the die. *harrumph* Either the dice-bot hates high bonuses (or just me), or it's saving the good rolls for when Ulciscor loses his keys. :-)

Ulciscor then did his best to help Dargirm find some kind of tracks.

Well, that should be enough to get Dargrim to 20, if we're being allowed to Aid Another and retroactively add a Guidance spell...

Ulciscor stands guard, nibbling on wandermeal, while Innocent prepares. When everyone is ready, he falls into line with the rest.

Well, there's half of my Channeling for the day, and we're not even done sleeping yet (assuming that Channels reset at prayer time, and not sunrise - if it's the latter, then he's done for the day, but will have a full compliment in the AM). But Both Dargrim and Lisolan receive 4hp, which brings them to full.

Ulciscor nodded to Lioslan. "The Doombringer's blessing, yes. We will see if we can't manage a little more of it, in a moment." He turned to the others, "Lioslan speaks wisely. A defensive position for the rest of the night is better than fighting them in the open, and in the dark. But I suspect they may be headed for the mines, and we may not see them again before tomorrow."

Once everyone was back inside the relatively safe confines of the camp, Ulciscor examined them for injuries, then brought forth the blessings of Hoar.

"It would appear that the Doombringer approves of your handiwork tonight."

Anyone injured receives 5hp healing. Where does that leave everyone?

Although Lioslan's self-revenge had been impressive, it appeared Hoar's healing still came only grudgingly to the Elf and reckless Dwarf.

5' forward to L5 (map Updated), Channel, excluding Wolves that Ulciscor can see. Should heal both Lioslan and Dargrim for 2hp (Not sure if you want me updating character hp, DM, so I haven't done that).



Hello all. Long time D&D player here and new fan of the Pathfinder system. In the current campaign, I am playing a sorcerer who is fully themed on the summon monster line of spells. I am aware of the summoner base class but this one fit me better.

My question revolves around this however:
What kinds of items would best help this type of character? I am having trouble finding any that don't specifically address the monsters themselves. So far the best I have found is a Rod of Extend Spell.
