Hi guys! Posting it on all my pbps.

Our offshore team at work is very affected by the pandemic at the moment and with the fiscal year approaching to an end, our reduced capacity is terribly affecting my time. For the next several weeks it will likely impact me in such way that I simply won't be able to keep up with the forums, things normalizing only as we start approaching mid June.

For the games where I play, GMs please feel free to bot the characters. If you don't desire to bot me for so long, I completely understand, apologize for the late notice and wish you all the best of fun. If you hold me around, though, I should be back after this storm.

For the games where I host, my sincerest apologies to the players - I won't let you hanging so if you stick around until my return we will give it continuation as normal. Otherwise, please message me and once I'm back I'll recruit replacements.

To everybody, I'm sorry for the late notice and I hope we will continue playing together once I'm back!

Cheers,

Archlich

Ey! I can't see anything either, Ashling. But I'm happy to hear I didn't even have to move... As much as burning enemies is fun! Good job, Samuel. - says the gnome, scratching his eyes.

Honestly, I have no idea why you would imagine a water fountain is a... Power source for something. I guess witches are really creative! - says the gnome, genuinely confused with the association, but going along as he doesn't really know better.

What do you guys mean by... Dancing hut? - says Timm, visibly confused - I met a dancing mutt once. His name was Toto! He was trained by my cousin Narolio Neturo, and I must tell you how talented he was. He would wig his tail and jump back and forth to the rhythm of the ukulele! If you clap your hands, he would do a spin. Oh, that was great! These people from the Minatan islands are quite something. His sister, my cousin Nawelia Neturo, was an accomplished tailor. I'm not kidding, she could sew socks with her feet while talking to you! I remember she had even a nice trick to have the socks in place, on her feet, by the time she finished doing the job. Neat! Oh, neat reminds me of their mother, dear aunt Noselle Neturo. Already deceased, mind you. Such a sweet person, but a neat freak. Would you believe she liked to swab every single door knob after someone touched it? She would walk around with a piece of cloth!

Timm gets up, looks around, but 6 seconds later jets back down again to the ground.

Ok... I will go there take a look! - says Timm, looking up without much confidence - a little confessedly coward to go up.

He focus for a moment, flames coming of his hands - and suddenly he propels up, towards Letitia.

He will keep flame jetting, each round, until he can land somewhere (even the canopy of a tree, or a sturdier branch - he isn't too heavy). Each standard action means up to 60 feet (costing double feet to go upwards)

While Timm is ready to go help Letitia if she needs, he just stays floored for now, helping with the kids. He truly, deeply cares for children, and genuinely looks after them to make sure they're safe.

Ain't that right? - Timm chuckles back at Samuel.

As the group walks, the gnome seems distracted humming a song, until they finally get to the unstable house. He then crosses his arms in the back and looks up, apparently unworried about anything.

Timm looks at the creature - first speechless, then finally back to his own.

He completes with the most honest of his smiles, fascinated by the flames. He might be in love again.

Timm approaches in a shy manner.

Are... Are you okay? - he spoke, stuttering for moments - You will forgive me if my first reflex is to just... Burn... These brutes. You know, gnomes and trolls have a bit of a story!

He waits for her to complete her business with the troll and people inspect him for any goods, before swiftly burning the remains.

I remember my cousin Gadenyo Gorebosem. He was such a nice fellow! He used to navigate the Varisian forests searching for the special yew wood they have over there to make his fantastic lutes. Anyway, a given day he crossed with a couple trolls there... Rock trolls, mind you, not these ice ones. They were frozen in place through some sort of spells, but poor Gadenyo still managed to get hurt when he went to inspect them and the statues dropped over his left foot. And it was his good foot! He used it to play kick-the-ball games on the Sunday faires by auntie Murea Mardigras. Ah, she was something! The funniest of my aunties! Always willing to tell a good tale...

He finally interrupts himself - maybe something of a miracle - as he turns to Samuel.

Wait! These things... These firearms... They were incredible! So strong, precise... And so, so loud! - he speaks - I... I bet we should be concerned on who else heard it!

Hoping that my shot hits - since I attack against touch - and that the fire stops his regen. If not, we're gonna need another Timmy!

Timm once again focus, but this time he does so ever more intensely. It's visible the fire around him concentrates in such way that even his skin seems to burn, visibly hurting the gnome in the process. He moves to avoid his allies with his blast, and when he finds a position where the enemy doesn't have any cover - he shoots an empowered blast of incandescent pain.

Attack: 1d20 + 11 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 11 + 1 = 18 vs. Touch, Empowered, Point Blank Shot
Damage: 3d6 + 8 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (2, 2, 5) + 8 + 4 + 1 = 22 Fire

Taking another point of burn for Burn 2/7. He has precise shot, so no penalties for the fact he's in melee

Oh no! - says Timm, both hands in his head, as the enemy advances towards Letitia.

The gnome then proceeds to move sideways, trying to find an angle without cover, and lets out a blast of pure fire.

Attack: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11

The ball of fire forms around him at a monstrous pace, forming rays of fantastic light effects. The entire air around the gnome seems to warm, but yet - only a little drop of fire leaves his hands, and he disappears barely five feet away from the pyrokineticist with an almost silent *poof*.

Timm shows his teeth, cheeks pinking up from shame. I can do better!, he mouths.

Oh, totally, Callix. The "entitlement" was not directed at the characters - I understand where they would be coming from. Between Letitia's comments above, however, or for the offenses that Samuel posted (and removed), I feel this should have been clear.

There is no "over-relying" on simply asking to be considered with similar respect in the table, as just another player. Joining a game before do not make you better than the people joining after. It doesn't entitle you to offend other people; it doesn't entitle you to raise issues about the player without ever seeing him posting. Your character can think he's the king or queen of the world, and think things rotate around them. The players shouldn't.

If all that can be understood from what I posted is "he is complaining about how his gnome was treated" and not the arrogant misplaced sense of entitlement and the need of respect between players, then I feel my presence really isn't welcome (as a player) and I don't want to be disruptive to the "well oiled machine" that is here (and maybe that's all that certain people here wanted me to say) - which means I should likely apologize to the GM, and be thankful for the opportunity.

Male Gnome Pyrokineticist 6 | HP 63/63 NL 12 | AC 22 TO 16 FF 18 | F +10 (+4 vs. disease and poison) R +10 W +5; +2 vs. fear, despair, death | CMD 17 | Init +4 | Perc +11 DC LLV | Burn 2/7 | Eternal Hope 1/1 | Cold 6 | Internal Buffer 1/1

I agree and I think it's a fair point. While I think PCs should also be able to act tempestuously and provoke a surprise round, I can certainly abide for the particular rules here and act accordingly.

The one thing I don't agree is with the offenses - not only what Samuel posted in gameplay, but what he posted (and removed) later here in the discussion tab.

It's important to be respectful with the people playing with us. In the PbP environment, things get even more critical - it's easy to be misinterpreted, and the fact you're not seeing people in person shouldn't be treated as a shield to act disrespectfully.

The fact someone joined a game after you doesn't automatically entitle you to act superior. There's a social contract going on; we're all people behind the smiling avatars trying to have fun.

Things started wrong maybe even before Timm joined. I had the privilege to be invited, and was ecstatic to join. With it all said, I'm not asking anyone for favors or begging to be around. I'm thankful for the invite, but I still consider me a player that should be treated in equal terms - so, the fact people were already messaging the GM and placing reservations against my character even before I posted in gameplay is really, really bad form and leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

The GM was graceful enough to still give me a chance, despite whatever apparent reservations people could have against a character that haven't even posted before, or a player they never played with before (despite my many years hosting games and playing here in dozens of different games in the forums).

Then, gameplay kicks - The initial reception Timm received was arguably "roleplaying", but things like suggesting he should stay behind taking care of the children - even after the awkwardness of the beginning - was uncalled for, exaggerated and, again, maybe insensitive towards the fact that there's a player here more than a character.

I took it all in good form. You never know who's on the other side of the screens, right? Maybe some people are simply complicated, or feel too entitled instead of remembering that no one is better than anyone.

When this action came - for a combination of not previewing enough a post and the will to contribute and perform a meaningful action, I decided to take the risk and go ahead with it; certain actions (like casting spells) are usually turn-starting, and realistically it sounded fun that Timm had no way to knowing if she was throwing a fireball, summoning two buckets of water or trying to charm an enemy.

Sure - it's the type of thing that, in the name of the same social contract I aforementioned, we could oversee the metagaming and just pretending Timm naturally knew to keep his pace, somehow feeling what was going on (I even suggested the "Sense Motive" route, but likely not even needed; for instance, it was simply a matter of the GM making a call to keep things moving).

Regardless of everything, as I brought up before... I want to have the opportunity to play Timm, and I like the group dynamics and the AP. I like the GM style too, and would like to continue - if GM and the team would still have me. However, I wouldn't want to continue without voicing that I very much expect to be respected, not offended, and treated fairly on the same terms of any other player - no matter when I joined the game. If this is agreeable, then I'm sure I'll learn the team pace and we will all have a blast. Pun intended!

Male Gnome Pyrokineticist 6 | HP 63/63 NL 12 | AC 22 TO 16 FF 18 | F +10 (+4 vs. disease and poison) R +10 W +5; +2 vs. fear, despair, death | CMD 17 | Init +4 | Perc +11 DC LLV | Burn 2/7 | Eternal Hope 1/1 | Cold 6 | Internal Buffer 1/1

I am still hoping that maybe the GM would allow me some sort of sense motive? Using the rolls there or rerolling them (or the GM rolling), I don't care. I thought it would be funny to have her tell him something of the sorts "I was CHARMING him!", but I reckon it could be better. Like Letitia said, we weren't really in initiative, so maybe (putting the metagaming discussion aside) someone that knows what's going on could really just get the gnome to hold his horses.

Yes, definitely. I was mostly referring to the overall social contract on this type of game (more than in a combat perspective), but I think the fact we got the weekend in-between didn’t help much either. Without speaking the language or understanding spells, though, and in the spirit of preventing meta game... Maybe some sort of sense motive? With some penalties because Timm has no idea of how the team operates and if they used this kind of approach before? I don’t know.

Male Gnome Pyrokineticist 6 | HP 63/63 NL 12 | AC 22 TO 16 FF 18 | F +10 (+4 vs. disease and poison) R +10 W +5; +2 vs. fear, despair, death | CMD 17 | Init +4 | Perc +11 DC LLV | Burn 2/7 | Eternal Hope 1/1 | Cold 6 | Internal Buffer 1/1

Yes, I agree! Her post wasn’t there when I previewed it either. Regardless, when I posted, I could finally see it and edit mine. I took it into consideration, then went to read the scene more in details. Timm doesn’t speak skald, neither he knows spellcraft. All that he saw was she advancing towards a troll, pronouncing magic words and shuffling on her spell components pouch. Since it was already a second action before Timm took even his first, I considered it would be pure metagaming to have him understand what was going on out of nothing and just stays patiently waiting for whatever-he-has-no-idea to happen. He never saw she doing anything similar before; he doesn’t have any idea what each person there is capable of. He just knows she flies, and was now advancing towards a troll and casting a spell.

I opened the page hours ago when I started writing the post, but had been swamped with work the entire day before I could finally finish and post :) so, when I started writing it, you had not taken a second action yet before my first. Honestly, I like that Timm sounded hasty and a bit on the edge, so I’ll keep it as is! Plus, he doesn’t really speak Skald, so he has no idea what she’s doing. It feels like she’s casting a spell... It’s already good that he didn’t shoot when there were three trolls here, so at least there’s that! He will learn to be more cautious... Later, apparently!

Male Gnome Pyrokineticist 6 | HP 63/63 NL 12 | AC 22 TO 16 FF 18 | F +10 (+4 vs. disease and poison) R +10 W +5; +2 vs. fear, despair, death | CMD 17 | Init +4 | Perc +11 DC LLV | Burn 2/7 | Eternal Hope 1/1 | Cold 6 | Internal Buffer 1/1

Timm notices that only a single troll stayed, and smiles with happiness. The air warms up around him - and suddenly he lets a blast of pure fire flow from his hands towards the single enemy.

Attack: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30 vs. Touch; Empowering with Infusion Specialization
Damage: 3d6 + 5 + 7 ⇒ (4, 5, 5) + 5 + 7 = 26

Confirm?: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27
Extra?: 3d6 + 5 + 3 ⇒ (3, 2, 2) + 5 + 3 = 15

The shot ends up flying a lot hotter and stronger than he expected, and he has difficulties pretending he knew what he was doing.

Still don't know about these tokens - if these are something AP-related distributed before I joined, then I want to call the GM's attention to this fact (in case it's relevant).

No touching dolls - check. I'll limit myself to burning dolls. - says Timm, scratching his chin. He looked at Letitia with interest, but didn't say much. He could somewhat fly as well, but likely not as gracefully, and certainly not in a way he could demonstrate here without burning the place down. Yet, being able to shoot his fire blasts at foes at 120 feet, he rarely had to be concerned with flying.

From what you folks are saying, we definitely should seek protective gear against witches. And their curses! You know, my cousin Babburcio Beggins couldn't speak for hours after he met one witch. She did something with his tongue, and not in a pleasant way! I guess she was annoyed he would speak too much. I mean, witches can be pleasant! My third aunt Faffelia Farofa, daughter of my uncle, the great hero Felistono Farofa, was a witch. She even had a cauldron, but painted pink with beautiful white dove-looking runes! She was able to heal wounds with that cauldron. That's how she healed my could Jokasta Jajabuda, which had been peglegging since she stepped in a twig by her neighbor's Tytarato Tetolongo. Oh, the Tetolongos had such a beautiful farm! They used to raise ostriches... - and he keeps speaking for quite a while, making people understand why the witch cursed his cousin to stop speaking. Or was it his uncle?

Was the dragon breathing... Cold? - Timm asked with curiosity. He was used to defend himself in combat, but usually attacking from a good distance. Once heard, the gnome turned to Letitia.

... And... What do you mean protection tokens? What are these dolls?

He was a little lost, and while he was honestly trying to better prepare himself - there was a good amount of sheer curiosity and excitement through such adventures that these group of heroes had experienced.

I updated my sheet, header and the slides. Kineticist is quite a complex class, so I added to my sheet the different changes depending on how much burn I have (at least 1; please assume Timm starts the day burning 1 point to fill his internal buffer) and a section called "Progress" with details on the abilities. Hopefully it will be enough for me, the GM and whoever is curious to see how the pyrokineticist works!

The greatest thing, as you already mentioned, is being able to bypass cold resistance.

In a different game where I played a Winter Witch, my first level was actually Sorcerer (because of Irrisen Icemage, but I also did it crossblooded for Boreal and Cold Draconic). It really gimped my progression but it was totally worth it, especially since I did VMC Oracle for Freezing Spells as well (lots of synergy). For Patron I did Trickery with infernal contract (free Misfortune Hex at the cost of 1 first level spell slot, basically, of infernal healing).

In the RP topic - very, very happy with being in this group! Thanks for the "hard time" in the first scene, mates. I hope you all grow to like Timm as much as I do, and I hope to be useful to the party :)

Hi Letitia! Look at me link here mate! Ahoy!

@GM: Where should I replace "Alec lines"?

Hah! Great! - said the gnome, in a weird upbeat tone. For instants, it was like his cheeks and hair got their colors brighter than before, and the air around him became warmer - And boy, I can definitely do the fire thing again.

He stopped by Samuel's side, with an excited smile in his face.

To the shrine! - he echoed the gunslinger, pointing on the wrong direction with a hand, with the other resting by his own hip.

Oh, I don't get offended. RP is fine, hopefully keeping to a point that it doesn't actually disrupts the flow.

I have no idea who this Elvanna is. As for Baba Yaga, the name... Maybe rings a bell. I just offered to accompany you because you showed good intention towards these children... And I wanted to help. They have been arguing in favor of you, and who wouldn't trust the younglings?

He scratches his chin, where the beard is already growing back, red and bright.

I am not here to replace your fallen comrade. If such business of yours is that of saving the world from eternal winter, then... As much as I feel I could be biting more than I can chew... Maybe it should be my duty to do so. - he speaks frankly towards the Humans - I had been walking these lands probably a lot, a lot longer than you. Maybe even as many years as you have together, as much as I'd hate to admit. I truly lack the heroics your lot seems to have, though... But Valani knows I do have the burning will to do so!

Oh, thank you! - says Timm towards Samuel, refusing the crossbow - It's a nice offer, but I feel I have some toys of my own that can be more useful!

With that said, he lit a small fire horse over his hand - and immediately let it dissipate.

The children definitely love it, but it can be quite, quite dangerous. - and then, turning to Letitia - ... Which is why I hope you let me accompany you. I'm sure they can wait us by the Shrine once we leave them there.

Oh, hi! Hey there!

The voice sounds joyful - but definitely not childlike. This gnome is short even for a gnome and red haired, with amber eyes that look almost red as well. He's shaved, but his beard is starting to appear on the tanned skin. He is now dressed with armor and a small buckler he likely hid in a backpack during his ruse.

Sorry for that, mates. - he says, complementing as fast as he started speaking - Name's Timm. I had to make sure of your intentions... You understand, right? I came here for the kidnapped children, and was able to mingle with them with our enemies noticing... During which while I had been trying to keep them safe, despite our situation, and find a way out.

Gonna have to do some Doctor Dolittle (this last movie with Robert Downey Jr.) to find him... :)

Hey guys! It's Timm here. Thanks for inviting me, GM!

I'm reworking Timm to cover the trapfinding thing, but despite that, as a kineticist he'll be a somewhat capable damage dealer especially at range - and hopefully at some point enough in melee as well.

Cheers!

It's a pity, but some people are quite toxic here in the forums. I usually take notes of the player names to avoid them around. I just built Timm and he literally posted twice or thrice in gameplay... It's painful to see a character that wasn't simple to build go to waste, but I wouldn't want to push the GM into hosting a game he doesn't want to.

I'd rather he's happy playing in the games he's enjoying, as hosting games is almost a second job. Please, GM, keep me in my for future games if you have other openings - not necessarily with Timm, but I mean as a player. I was looking forward to it, but yet I prefer playing with people that are enjoying their games. I hate the toxicity of some players.

Cheers! At least I got to burn something from the get go! :)

To be honest, all I can say about what I'm seeing is - "ew, pvp". Is this possible, or encouraged, in this game? Because if it's the case, I fear it's not the game for me, and I'll step out. Honestly, I got disheartened already when I read it there, but was hoping it wasn't the case. Waiting on the GM at this point.

Timm blinks and puts up a smile, looking at the group which was under attack. He seems to be somewhat burned - or maybe, tense - due to the effort to conjure fire, yet it's clear he's more concerned on checking on them.

Hey there! Nice to meet you, despite the circumstances. Are you okay? - he asks Erystelle and the others, slowly approaching, still a little not fully trusting anyone - And I can't understand you, my dear!

He completes it towards Porablum, not being able to speak Celestial.

My name is Timm Tones! - he finally introduces himself, sounding a little more on the maniac side than friendly, especially given his clear predilection for burning things.

Gotta love these fey, huh?

The voice comes out squeaky, but resolute. A small gnome, with red hair and beard, comes running from the forest. The small steps on the snow get light up as his hands start shining in fire. He stops around 30 feet northeast of the target, then lets an empowered fire blast fly.

Empowering fire blast, and eating the burn to get fire's fury

Attack: 1d20 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 9 + 1 = 30 PBS, PS
Damage: 3d6 + 5 + 1 + 4 ⇒ (1, 2, 6) + 5 + 1 + 4 = 19

Confirm?: 1d20 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 9 + 1 = 27
Extra?: 3d6 + 5 + 1 + 6 ⇒ (5, 1, 6) + 5 + 1 + 6 = 24

Joining the fun with firey style!

Thanks GM! Considering the holidays, I might post only next week. If the fight is still going on I might chime in to help, otherwise I'm fine with meeting them in the village.

I'm still here, although my Timm still didn't join the campaign :) Still waiting for the clue from our GM to start.

Regardless: I believe the spell/SLA should work despite the curse. It's not like it's abusive, to be honest (like Ring of Eloquence, which I think it's stretching the rule).

Hey guys! I'm one of the new party members the GM mentioned. Thanks for having me! @GM, I'll keep an eye on Gameplay, just give me a hint of when I am to come. Cheers!

Oh, I had definitely been reading the other backgrounds here. Some good stuff, people. :)
