nope. in the feat text there is a comma after the base attack requirement. I had a similar plan for a character of mine.

First issue is that you lack the prerequisite base attack for jabbing style. But other wise it would be an excellent combo.

- your 1st issue is that you can't multiclass with a hybrid (ACG class) unless it is 1 of the 2 parent classes. (so brawler is out, but look at any other base or core class, or archtype based on unarmed strikes.

- anyone can use unarmed attacks, but w/o feats it's usually not advised.

- are you really asking about natural attacks from your wild shape ability or are you trying to make same attack/damage bonuses and feats work while in both forms (natural and wild)?

that is not quite correct. page eight of the ACG lists no restrictions to multi classing. so you can do it. I'm not sure how it will work but it's an interesting idea.

I still do not as often as I would like but I still play. Are you looking for a battle buddy?

Dramatic Charge

At 7th level, as long as the Swashbuckler has at least 1 Panache point in his pool, the Swashbuckler can ignore difficult terrain when making a charge. During a Dramatic Charge the Swashbuckler can spend 1 Panache Point to do one of the following:
-Make an acrobatics check to move through an single enemy's space in the path of the charge with no penalty for moving more than half speed.
-Make an Acrobatics check to jump over an obstacle in the path of the charge.
-Make a single turn of up to 90 degrees along the path of the charge.
If the Swashbuckler fails any of these acrobatics checks, the Swashbuckler stops in the square where the acrobatics check was attempted and the charge fails.

is much smoother than what I posted. kudos

To follow up on Prince of Knives's statement about more mobility.
this class feature is an excellent example:

Quote:

Acrobatic Charge (Ex)

At 6th level, a duelist gains the ability to charge in situations where others cannot. She may charge over difficult terrain that normally slows movement. Depending on the circumstance, she may still need to make appropriate checks to successfully move over the terrain.

It is straight from the duelist from the core book. I would add only a panache cost, perhaps the ubiquitous "as long as you have one panache" cost and it is an excellent deed for mobility.

But I think a restructuring of the evasive deed is in order. The high level and all at onces is fine for the gunslinger which is ideally trying to avoid close combat. The swashbuckler on the other hand is up close and personal all the time. The deed would flow better broken up perhaps in the following manner:

Evasive (Ex): while a swashbuckler has at
least 1 panache point, she gains the benefit of the evasion(3rd),
uncanny dodge(3rd), and improved uncanny dodge(7th) rogue
class features. She uses her swashbuckler level as her
rogue level for improved uncanny dodge.

This gets the ablities out to the swashbuckler when they are helpful and remain so through out a characters career. Dodging panache is also a useful deed and it arrives at 1st. So early on you are a more defensive fighter wich is not a bad thing.

Also I must put forth that charmed life needs work. As an immediate action it is more of a cruel jest than a help. It is already limited in scope so I would recommend a revisit to change its action type. There were several good suggestions upthread for that very thing.

Though personally from playing this class so far in a S&S game I would rather have the good fort save inherent to the parent classes.

but over all I am liking this class and most of the others so thank you Stephen and the PDT for giving us something interesting to work with.

I have some good news for you...slashing grace will work with swashbuckler finesse

feat

Slashing Grace
Choose one type of one-handed slashing weapon.
Prerequisites: Dex 13, Weapon Finesse, proficient with
chosen weapon.
Benefit: When wielding your chosen weapon one
handed, you can treat it as a one-handed piercing weapon
for all feats and class abilities that require such a weapon
(such as swashbuckler’s precise strike).
The weapon must
be one for your size.

swashbuckler finesse

Swashbuckler Finesse (Ex): At 1st level, a swashbuckler
gains the benefits of the Weapon Finesse feat with light
or one-handed piercing melee weapons, and she can
use her Charisma score in place of Intelligence as a
prerequisite for Combat Expertise. This ability counts as
having the Weapon Finesse feat for purposes of meeting
feat prerequisites.

The bolded lines show that RAW you are good to go. I'm thinking about making some chanegs myself for my S%S swashbuckler thanks to this.

Robot_nachos wrote:

yes, several times, Also note that swashbuckler finesse is unusual insomuch that it allows you to use weapons that you normally couldn't, katanas for example become finesseable with the swashbuckler finesse class feature.

Except that katana in the UE and UC is a slashing weapon.
-edit ninja'd by tels

I think it is a shame that right now the swashbuckler finesse is limited but I can understand the inital slow pace by the design team.

And it is cool that you could make a desna swashbuckler as starknives are covered by the class feature. There would be less crits but with the precise strike they would have some impact.

The chanegs seem interesting. I am awaiting the release of version 1.5 for the ACG

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Yes a change to the opportune parry/riposte deeds is needed. And also a rework of the swashbuckler weapons

My thoughts on the swashbuckler:

Hello this class brough me out of lurking to discuss it's pluses and minuses.

Pros: I like the idea of a lightly armored warrior wreking havoc on the battle field and this is a very good start for that.

A good skill selection,hp and BAB make for a strong comabtatant. I like the deeds and panache system(with some issues. see cons) it adds a dynamic flow to combat that adds zest. The swashbuckler finesse and weapon training are and excellent option with some flaws(again see cons).

Nimble is a lovely class feature that is nescessary for a class like this.

For the pros it is a very solid base which I will enjoy playing in an upcoming SnS game.

Now the cons

Cons: Only reflex as good save. That is harsh for a combatant class. The two classes that make this hybrid up have between then fort (twice) and reflexes(once). I would say that fort and ref should both be good saves.

Next con Evasive. This deed is excellent but it comes too late and is jammed together. To be fair it does arrive before the gunslinger evasive but perhaps it should be broken up. Set the uncanny dodge pieces as deeds at 3rd(uncanny dodge) and 7th(improved uncanny dodge).
You can the set the evasion/ improved evasion as at 7th/11th for a nicer balance of when options come into play.Of course keep the same restriction on panache needed for their function. That works fine.

Weapon group. Ther current weapon group for the class is flawed. Other posters have noted this and I concur. Add some of the classic dueling weapons. I agree a duelist weapon group would be lovely. I want to make my saber duelist...with out having to run to dervish dance to make it happen.Possible weapons for the group:pistols,scimitar/saber,other one handed blades. But that has been expanded on by others

Precise strike. I was glad to read that the dross of 3.5 is to be removed by one of the dev's and that I can run a buckler with it as well. I would like precise strike to be limited to the duelist weapons group.

Deeds. Opportune parry/Riposte: I can not agree enough with the other posters that it should cost an AoO to parry as long as you have 1 panache and cost 1 panache to attemtpt your Riposte. To me that seems to flow better. Also parry after the attack is sucessful. This does fly in the face of the duelist prestige class but such is life. I feel it would flow better and unlike the prestige class the swashbuckler can't parry for an ally. Which they should get post haste.

All in all I like the class. Perhaps a small side bar inicating which grit feats can be substituted for panche would be nice. I am looking forward to this book.

I had heard this series was coming, but hadn't realized it was released until I saw some reviews on YouTube. My only familiarity with the noir version of Spider-Man was from those animated Miles Morales movies. Nevertheless, being a fan of both Nicolas Cage and Brendan Gleeson, and someone who enjoys a good noir movie or series, I decided to give it a shot.

It was...entertaining. An overall straightforward plot, but with some nice twists. Some humor. Decent action sequences. Some solid performances, especially Brendan Gleeson as an Irish version of Silvermane. There was even a bit of body horror. The only thing I wish they'd done a bit different was to add in more CGI to liven up the fight sequences.

They gave you the choice of watching in either color or black & white. I chose the black & white, since I thought that went better with the noir theme.

Overall it was a fun little series.

It looks impressive, but I'm not all that up with the cast. Particularly, I just don't see Matt Damon as a good Odysseus, even though I like him as an actor. Nor do I think much of Zendaya as Athena. Although I do think Charlize Theron as Circe is really great casting.

I'm also a little iffy on trying to do the Odyssey as a single movie (as near as I know, he's only doing the one). To me, in order to do the story justice it'd have to be either a 2 or 3 part movie, or a TV series.

A wonderful, but kind of sad documentary about the life and career of the great John Candy. He was an incredibly talented and funny man whom we lost way too soon. It's been out for awhile, but the wife and I finally got around to watching it last night.

I hadn't realized just how long it's been since he passed. 31 years now.

Surprisingly, this was directed by Colin Hanks (son of Tom Hansk), and put together by Ryan Reynolds. I heard a story about the making of the documentary - one of the most difficult parts was actually finding Dan Akroyd for an interview. Apparently, he's VERY private. Supposedly, Reynolds arrived at his house, spent the night, had breakfast the next morning, then they interviewed for several hours. After that, he had to leave.

This is a new show on Netflix. Chapter One, consisting of 6 episodes, just dropped last Thursday.

Think Squid Game meets The Last Samurai. Here's the synopsis:

During the Meiji era (late 19th century), 292 fighters came together at Tenryū-ji Temple in Kyoto after sunset, drawn by the chance to win a grand prize of ¥100,000. The challenge was clear: take each other's wooden tags and make it all the way to Tokyo. The winner would get the prize. One of the warriors, Shujiro Saga, joined the dangerous contest with a personal mission: to help his sick wife and child.

Some great characters. Fantastic fight choreography. And the story has more to it than just a bunch of folk fighting. It's got political intrigue and personal drama unfolding as well. Really entertaining.

I finally got around to watching this movie last night, after hearing so many good things about it. Great film. The story was solid. The acting was great. I think it lived up to the hype.

Amy Madigan (nearly unrecognizable) was delightfully creepy as Aunt Gladys. I thought Josh Brolin might be a bit too old to play the father of an elementary school student, but it's not unpossible. And he's such a great actor anyway.

It's reported financial success is pretty impressive as well. A box office of something like $267 million off a reported $38 million budget. Even factoring in marketing, that's impressive. I heard there was also a bidding war among studios for the movie. Julia Garner did well. As did Alden Ehrenreich and Benedict Wong.

Frankenstein's Monster and his Bride meets Bonny and Clyde. Could be interesting. Though the movie premise also has me a bit leery.

I'm trying to recall any decent movies released in the last few years with the "classic" monsters, and I can't. Plus, this is only Maggie Gyllenhaal's third turn as a director (I think), and it might be her first turn at writing. Not to mention this has already been delayed twice it seems, which makes me wonder if the studio doesn't have a lot of confidence in it. So I shall be I shall be cautiously pessimistic.

I probably won't see it in a theater, but might give it a go when it drops to streaming.

Scarab Sages

I didn't see a thread for this, so....

Anyway, I heard about this series awhile back from some youtube personalities I watch. Several of them recommended it, but at the time I was busy with other things and didn't watch it. Finally got around to seasons 1 & 2 a few months back. And now season 3 dropped yesterday.

I love the characters. Ann is probably my favorite. Though all the main characters are very interesting. I didn't like Chishiya at first but warmed up to him by the end of the series.

The setting and story itself was intriguing. I'm toying with the idea of getting the manga to read, but that'd be a lot of effort. Plus, I'm not sure I have the shelf space.

Season One was pretty cool. Though I thought it could have been extended a bit and have the Beach only come in towards the end. Season two could have focused more on the Beach itself, culminating in the Witch Hunt (one of my favorite of all the games). As is, I loved the structure of first gathering all the number cards, then unlocking the face cards. The death matches against the citizens were cool. I wish we'd seen more of them. That King of Spades was a beast.

Anyway, now I'm four episodes in to Season 3. I'm enjoying it, especially the creativity of some of the games (despite how brutal they are), with mixing aspects of the different suites (Clubs & Hearts, Clubs & Diamonds, etc.). Still, it feels rushed. There hasn't been enough time to really build up a lot of the new characters. And with only two episodes to go, I worry they won't give a really good ending (like they did with Season 2).
