Thrass looks around bored during most of the conversation, but snaps awake when it's about to be concluded. He shrugs and apologises to his employers. "I don't think I helped much, most of the praise should go to my teammates. They sounded like they know what they're talking about."
When Celestia talks about swimming, he perks up again. "Sounds good, I need to blow off some steam after that day cooped up inside. We can start with your training, if you want. And I'll grill some fish afterwards for everyone, how's that sound?"

Thanks all! Sorry I was a bit of a dead weight during the diplomatic bits (and that I somehow dodged all of those stupid Basilisk stares, I still feel guilty about that), but I had great fun with you all. Hope to play with you again sometime. :)
Also big thank you to the GM, you did a great job running us through this. :)

Yeah, same. Rolling them one by one would take a week, and this way we can plan ahead and allocate our skills somewhat. Breaking it into two sections helps process things, nicely done!
As for the speed, I personally don't think you're going that fast at all. It's a pretty straightforward scenario with not much input required from the players, so it's go to place A, do some checks, continue to B, and so on. That speeds things up significantly.

Nice recall there, Itka! That helps a lot. I'm gonna need it...
"Being self-sufficient doesn't necessarily mean you don't need outside help. Anything you import frees up your own labourers to do other work. If they produce or do something that's worth more than what they used to do, that's a net profit to you."
Tanning Lore: 1d1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 6 + 1 = 15
Could've also used Nature at +9, but with the repeated skill and the fact that Lores tend to be easier, it's about even.
"If all your decisions are based on past experiences, you'll never innovate. Yes, someone might owe you a debt, but that shouldn't be the reason why you won't accept new trade agreements," Thrass says sagely.
Society check, plus the +1 Itka mentioned: 1d20 - 1 + 1 ⇒ (8) - 1 + 1 = 8
This is just an untrained roll, so sorry if I screw things up. Technically, Deception is 1 better, but that doesn't fit Thrass, I feel.

I forgot to add the +4 for the sports thing. I thought it worked like Assurance, not adding anything else. But reading it once again I think I can add that +4, hopefully not turning it into a crit fail.
And as we need to make a check for each part:
Thrass repeats his speech from earlier with the embassy lady. "Trade isn't just about profit, it's also about mutual enrichment. We could offer each other goods and services we lack of our own. Short-term losses will turn into long-term growth."
Or, if you think it's not fair to add that +4 retroactively, add that +4 to this check, then.

Thrass keeps murmuring to himself about possible challenges. You catch phrases such as "firedancing," "bullwrestling," and other dangerous-sounding challenges. It sounds like he means well, but he might get carried away a little.
---
During the debate, Thrass remains mostly quiet. However, he shoots up at the mention of the Pathfinder Society.
Quote: "Besides, the Pathfinders wouldn't be short sighted enough to provoke a war to make a few more gold." "Yes," he nods in agreement. "We know war is disastrous for everyone involved. The Society has a history of remaining civil and even helping the underdog in times of need. We can probably reach an agreement to help you if others start muscling you out."

Thrass stays silent during the talk about taxes. He knows when he's out of his depth.
Don't want to use my bad Diplomacy again, especially with a higher DC.
During the part about the stars he listens closely again. "Lashweather is right! The stars even helped us during the Cho'ataan! I suddenly doubled in size and shot fire from my fists! If the stars are so bad, they wouldn't have helped us during that ritual."
He might be conflating things there, but at the core his message is true.

Feeling cocky after the last fight, Thrass is happy to help out. "Sure, this seems fun. Let's see how I can help."
When they bring out the anykolsauruses, Thrass's jaw drops. "Er... You see, the trick is..." he looks around, looking for inspiration, then his eyes fall on the fish at his belt. "Ah, yes, the trick is twofold. Maybe threefold, I dunno. But part of any team exercise is bonding with your teammates. Trust in your mount and they will trust you. See?"
Thrass grabs another fish from his belt and offers it to the ankylosaurus. If the dinosaur doesn't accept it, he will look for something else the beast would like to eat. I have a +10 in Nature, if that requires a check.
Only afterwards does he climb onto the beast's back. "The second trick is anticipating your partner's movements. Like this." Thrass tries a sitting version of the crane stance, raising his arms high for balance. "By spreading my arms out like this, I can distribute my weight as the dino shifts, anticipating and counteracting their movements."

Yeah, they could in theory overrun us, but we've been rolling really well. On paper, 10 of those creatures adds up to a big challenge, but staggering them like that gives us a big advantage. They're also quite low level compared to us, so they fall really quickly. I mean, it's season 1, so I'm sure they hadn't really figured everything out yet, but level-2 enemies really aren't that big of a challenge.
Not meant as a slight against you, GM, you're doing great. :) Our real enemy are those Diplomacy checks. :P

Completely agree, Follow the Expert is great and rarely used. I feel like Exploration Mode is a half-baked mechanic that could use some fleshing out. On the one hand, since there's two modes, it's easy to say, "if you're not in mode A, you're in mode B," but on the other hand, this situation doesn't feel like "exploration."
But I'm glad you brought this up, this is a good way to help people without the right skills. I'll remember this for my own games. :)

The big thing with Follow the Expert is that it's a recurring skill check, which I'm not sure this counts as. I'm also not sure if this counts as an exploration moment, but if the GM agrees, I'm happy to roll it. :)
EDIT: Already succeeded, it seems.

Celestia, I appreciate the healing, but I think it's better to save your spells for combat. Looks like we've got enough healing on our own.
To Kamil, Thrass says, "Or these things were sent to stop us. Either way, doesn't look good. Someone doesn't want us here, I think."
---
Once they've sat down, Thrass unhooks another fish, offers it to everyone around the table, then chomps down on it himself. When Kesstraka asks about his past, he says, "Well, I come from a small tribe of iruxi up in Taldor, much less impressive than this city. Mostly built out of sticks and mud, really. I am truly impressed by your architecture. But out simpler life also offers some advantages. We're all trained for combat, which happened to save our life just now.
"And that is precisely why we're here. We do not represent Vidrian itself, but as Pathfinders, we believe that exchange of information and cultures is important. Had the Pathfinders not come to my little village, I'd still be tanning hides and sleeping on a bunch of straw. We ask that you are in favour of the trade agreement not just for our sake, but for everyone's. That you can learn from our culture and the other way around. Together, we can rise out from the mud into a better future."
Hey, Thrass might be dumb, but he has a decent Wisdom score. He might just use smaller words than I actually used.
Sadly, I'm not trained in Diplo or Intimidate. Knowing the likely DC for this level, I'm not gonna try.

I'd like to nominate whoever got petrified as a consolation prize. I know Celestia and Kamil certainly spent at least one to avoid be petrified, maybe all their points.

I am dodging all the saves so far, jeez.
Thrass sighs in relief as he hears another thud in front of him and realises his enemies are dropping like flies. Really dangerous flies. Keeping his gaze on the ground, he tries to finish the final enemy.
+1 striking Crane Wing: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (17) + 14 = 31
Nonlethal bludgeoning: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (6, 5) + 4 = 15
+1 striking Crane Wing: 1d20 + 14 - 4 ⇒ (2) + 14 - 4 = 12
+1 striking Crane Wing: 1d20 + 14 - 8 ⇒ (19) + 14 - 8 = 25
Nonlethal bludgeoning: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (1, 3) + 4 = 8
Avert gaze, Flurry, Strike.

Okay, since Green is hopefully taken care of and I need to go to bed soon, here's my turn. Please let me act after Azu, so Ako can still benefit from flank if needed.
Thrass grunts as Purple takes a bite out of him, but he's still ready to attack. He keeps his gaze aimed at the ground for protection, then retaliates with more kicks. He focuses on the one that seems most injured, though it's hard to tell when looking half-away. If it's too difficult to tell, I focus fire on Purple. I focus on the other one if the first one falls, though that might be unlikely.
Flurry of Blows, +1 Striking Crane Wing: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (20) + 14 = 34
Nonlethal bludgeoning: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (4, 1) + 4 = 9
Ooh, that's a crit, so double that.
Flurry of Blows, +1 Striking Crane Wing: 1d20 + 14 - 4 ⇒ (19) + 14 - 4 = 29
Nonlethal bludgeoning: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (1, 5) + 4 = 10
With his final action, he puts his shield in between himself and the lizards for extra protection. Raise Shield for +2 AC.
◆ Avert gaze
◆ Flurry of Blows
◆ Raise Shield
Nonlethal damage only matters for the final blow, by the way, so if it doesn't knock them out, you don't have to track it.

Oh damn, rerolling into another nat 1. I'll avenge you both!
Waiting to take my turn until Azu has posted. My actions might depend on how Ako is doing.

Azu: Yeah, let's focus attacks. My main options are Green (the one you're attacking) or White (Azu and Kamil). Since White is getting quite debuffed, I'll tackle that one first.
Thrass aims his gaze at the ground. He's been lucky so far, but that luck will run dry sometime.
Action 1: Avert gaze for +2 on Fort.
He then unleashes a flurry of crane kicks to White, hopefully putting it out of commission.
If at any time White is no longer a threat, I'll switch to Yellow, since it's also within reach. I know I just agreed to focus fire, but Flurry needs to happen at once.
Crane Wing attack vs White: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (2) + 14 = 16
Crane Wing attack vs White: 1d20 + 14 - 4 ⇒ (19) + 14 - 4 = 29
Nonlethal bludgeoning: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (5, 2) + 4 = 11
With his last action, he starts unhooking his shield from his back, making it ready to raise when needed.
Third attack would be at +6. I mean, there's a chance, but I'd rather use it for something else.
EDIT: No, you know what, third action is going to depend on whether White is still standing. If White drops, grabbing shield. If not, third attack on White.

Yeah, you gain your actions at the start of your turn, so Haste isn't that useful on yourself on the first turn.
By the way, I carry a shield. Since I wasn't prepared for a fight, would I have it at the ready? I can imagine it being slung on my back since I was thinking we're going to have a talk, not expect combat.

Ouch, that's a bad start. Especially with these things, it might've been better to roll initiative for them separately, so they don't glomp on one character all at once.
Meant as friendly advice, not in a "you're doing bad/wrong" kind of way.
Map is fine for me. :)

"Er... This isn't good. Are these things supposed to be loose? I don't wanna cause problems by killing some ambassador's pets."
Thrass goes to stand on his tippy-toes in order to react swiftly to any danger. He lifts one leg up in the air and raises his arms wide, ready to lash out with his limbs.
Action 1: Crane Stance. AC goes up to 24.
His raised leg lashes out quickly twice, connecting with the face of the lizard right in front of Celestia.
Action 2: Flurry of Blows.
+1 Striking Crane Wing attack: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (8) + 14 = 22
Nonlethal bludgeoning damage: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (5, 1) + 4 = 10
+1 Striking Crane Wing attack: 1d20 + 14 - 4 ⇒ (5) + 14 - 4 = 15
Thrass quickly grabs his healer's tools from his backpack and tries to disinfect Celestia's wounds.
Battle Medicine, DC 15: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 30
Healing for Celestia: 4d8 ⇒ (5, 6, 7, 2) = 20

"I have an aunt who's partnergenic," Thrass pipes up out of nowhere. "It makes family reunions a bit awkward. Family members confusing them for each other and stuff. Just be careful who you give a kiss on the cheek."
An awkward silence follows.
"Anyway, I'm not sure my hometown's that much different. Though we have much less impressive architecture. Not sure that's a good thing, though. So, be nice, talk about how cool we are, then come back. Would that bottle of wine be a good present?"
Doesn't seem like I'd be of much use here, either. Sorry I didn't bring a more social character!

Thrass keeps himself busy by offering to fetch drinks, haul stacks of books to and fro, giving (kinda rough) massages, and generally being a menial labourer.
Not trained in any of these skills, sorry. Don't wanna botch it for the rest.

Back during the briefing.
"I can speak iruxi, and talking to people in their native tongue usually helps, right? I'll be on the lookout -hearout, I guess,- for anyone giving us a bad name."
---
In the office.
Perception check: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (15) + 12 = 27
Thrass swings his tail in what he hopes is an amicable fashion.
"Yeah," he agrees with Celestia, "we've got some real smart people with us. I'm sure the paperwork will be done in no time."
He starts unhooking another fish from his belt and points with it at the small stack of paperwork. "That to-do list will be gone before you know it. Can I interest you in a fish? Freshly caught this morning."

"So," Thrass begins, counting off three clawed fingers, "the mission is basically, get paperwork done, gather more paperwork, and join the negotiations tomorrow? Will we be part of that? That doesn't seem like it'd take six people. Maybe I can make fish sandwiches for everyone."
He doesn't seem too enthused about doing paperwork or being part of a diplomatic circle.
"You said there were other tasks as well?" Thrass looks for any excuse to not be part of the first group.
Inspirational image, by the way. Though maybe slightly derpier than that. Thrass isn't the brightest of the bunch.
Also, great pictures, everyone! I'm getting major She-Ra vibes from Celestia. :)

Itka: Ohh, nice spell! Sadly, I'm all melee, it's unlikely that I'm gonna make ranged spells. Looks like Azu is also mainly melee, and the rest are all casters of some kind. I think maybe a different spell would fit better, either some control or more damage.
I think boons are no longer slotted, you just have them active. That changed halfway through the first year, I believe.
Anyway, relevant boons for me:
Touched by the Storm 1-04: Cold resistance and electricity resistance 1.
One-Who-Waits (Quest #2) Whenever I roll a crit fail on an Acrobatics or Athletics check, I can turn it into a failure (twice).
Sand Slide (Quest 1): If I fail (but not crit fail) a Reflex save against a trap's effects, I can use a reaction to Step and Drop Prone in the new location. I get a +2 circumstance bonus on the triggering save.
I also have two glyphs, so 1d6 + 1d5 ⇒ (4) + (3) = 7 Kamil and Itka both get an extra Hero Point!

An iruxi wearing not much more than a modesty cloth and a belt full of freshly-caught fish is sitting in the room. "Hey all, the name's Thrass. I guess I was sent on this mission because I'm a fellow iruxi? Though I'm not very diplomatic, so if it comes to me to do the talking, I guess things have gone pretty far down the drain. Fish, anyone?"
He unhooks a fish from his belt, takes a big chomp off the head, and offers anyone who is interested a bite.

Hello! My character's currently listed as level 2, I'll update him ASAP. It's been a while since I played him PbP.
I'll go with a Barkskin potion.
Haven't played 1-09 with this character. I have played this scenario before (not with this character), though it's been a long time ago.
Relevant things to know about my character (in case they pop up and you're confused):
- I have a climb speed of 15 feet.
- I have a Shield Block reaction.
- I have two Focus Spells: Ki Strike and Wholeness of Body.

Do I still need to make those Fort saves mentioned earlier? Still a bit confused, and it took me a bit out of the story, sorry.
When Thrass has been patched up, he walks up to Aleksandr, his frills hanging in shame. "I'm sorry I got you in danger. That wasn't my intention. Are you okay now?"
After that, Thrass sticks close to Mik-Mek, and as far away as possible from Aleksandr. The former because he took care of him, the latter out of fear of bringing him in danger again.
So sorry you nearly died! That obviously wasn't my intention.

I'm a bit confused, we've fast-forwarded past the whole poison bit?
Thanks, Mik-Mek! :)
