also in another scenario with a giant squid, my dad casts hydrophobia on it and then control water and then we turned it into a statue of a giant frightened squid being terrified by his new worst nightmare

I wonder if that is the same giant squid that I rushed towards when my entire party ran the other direction... no, wait, Lucky said that he dimensioned door away, trying to bring me.

Well, of course, all we could see what a really big shadow under the water. So, as a true devotee of The Strong Man, I thought it would be a great test of my strength and skill! After all, I was able to wrassle not one, but two orca into submission up near the Crown of the World.

So, why not?

"Thorval!!!" was what I heard Lucky crying out, as the thing with all the tentacles drew me in.

Man, that was a good fight! And a close one. I didn't even need to grapple it, since it brought me in close. Just a flurry of fists!

Later that adventure... when the pirate wizard cast black tentacles on us... which, of course, I ignored, I went up to the pirate with a falchion, and grabbed it from him. "Give that back!" he demanded, so I threw it behind me into the tentacles.

”Yeah, what he said!”

Can I get an aid a other?

”Um, What? ” says a confused Ulfen. ”Was I supposed to use my fey magic on someone? Was someone needing some convincing that she is my friend! ” Thorval looks like he is either going to hit someone, or left them. ”Me pappy always said, the best way to make a friend is to hit an enemy in the face. Then you ask. ‘Are you my friend?’ And if they say ‘no’ you keep hitting them.”

The redhead gives a blank look that seems to mean he is thinking... hard.

Best we sneak out before he gets any ideas..

Who’s Taldor?

I didn't run out of spells! I still had plenty of "Get Real Mad", "Punch him in the face". "Diplomicize!" (looks a lot like "Punch him in the face"), and "Give him a hug!".

I didn't get to use "Squeeze the troll until his head pops off".

Ok, I may have been running low on "Get Real Mad" I think.

(Thorval ran into Fiffernetter, who made him believe he is a fey spellcaster, instead of just a brawler)

Thorval' confused look clears, as he winks at the elf. He holds their arms straight up, and while doing so, asks, "Wanna pour me one, there, Lucky? I have an arm free, you know. "

He turns back to the elf with no signs of strain on his voice or face, "Keep trying. You are showing a good effort. Kurgess appreciates a good effort. Did I ever tell you that I was taught fey soellcasting by a tiny squirrel girl?"

"Huh?"

"Well I noticed you had your grapple defenses lowered." Rilia says taking a seat across from Thorval. "Best two out of three falls?"

Looking at the rather frail looking elf, Thorval wonders if she is out of her mind. He takes her hand into his massive grip. 'Her arms are so tiny, how can she ever expect to win?'

"Lucky! Count to three for us!" He looks very seriously at the elven woman, "We go on three. That's the number that comes after two."

"Hmmm, I'll wrestle you." Rilia says smiling suggestively.

Thorval grins as he says, "You look a little scrawny, there, but as Kurgess says, never turn down a challenge. " He slams his elbow onto the top of the keg, holding his hand out for the elven woman.

The Ulfen looks puzzled by the fact that a Varisian man could so easily by him aside... at least until he spies his favorite halfling cleric. "Lucky! I thought I would find you here. That's Gunari over there... he also worships your god!"

Thorval looks to see that Gunari has already surrounded himself with a dozen of his newest friends. He then walks over to Lucky and asks. "Where so you want me to put the keg?" he asks, indicating the beer barrel carried on his shoulder, the stamp of Cayden's tankard on the top.

When Lucky indicates where, he sets it down, pulls over a pair of stools, and bellows out, "So who wants to arm wrestle?"

Thanks to Chris Rathunde, we had an amazing time at the special!

Thorval learned some new spells! He now knows "cannonball!" and has a new version of "Diplomicize!" (Which looks a lot like "Give the troll a hug until his head pops off")

Plus, Thorval chose to drop out of rage after the first round of combat against some undead foes when he figured they were "too easy" after one punching on back to just plain death.

All in all a great time was had!

As Lya is prerforming her oratory, an Ulfen man with a stunning mohawk and a keg over each arm enters the room.

"So many friends of Thorval will be there. Or future friends." ponders the Ulfen brawler. "Friends of Lucky, too. I will bet I get to try pinching something else in the face, or maybe wrestling another troll. Or practicing my magic. With Lefty and Righty, and beer as a spell component. There will be beer there, right?"

The real question is, will Bollywood be joining Thorval and Lucky on another mission? The last one they did together was a riot!

Al Riggs, I am looking at you!

There are definitely some classes that are much less common now than they were a few years ago.

For instance, I used to see rangers regularly, but I don't think I've seen a new one since the Advanced Class Guide was published. There are just too many other classes that fill the role now.

There aren't as many monks as there used to be, either. Given that I've never seen a brawler, which is the obvious replacement, I can't explain that one.

And arcanists seem to have replaced sorcerers for the most part, but wizards are still semi-common.

"That's horrible, Fromper. " bellows Thorval son of Thorval son of Thorval son of Thorval..... "As me pappy always said, if you can't think with your head, you best be able to fight with your fists. After all, you were born with all the weapons you'll ever need... "

And you hear...

Names are simple! Me pappy always told me that his pappy was told by his pappy... [this goes on a while] that a Taldan nobly type told him that you should always name your sons after you, so that your legacy will live on forever. Well, great great great great great great [goes on a while] grandpappy Thorval took that to heart, so we Sons of Thorval have followed that advice.

My name? Well of course it is Thorval son of Thorval son of Thorval son of Thorval son of ... [goes on for a while) ... son of Thorval!

Thorval carefully picks up the girl, cradling her in his massive arms. "I have her. We will take her home to her mommy. "

Thorval, seeing no reaction from his companions, approaches the girl. He cautiously, carefully, touches her on the shoulder, "Are you Junia, little girl? If so, we were sent her to find you. If not, I promise, we'll get you out anyways."

"Wait? What? How is she still alive? She has the ring, though. " Thorval says, completely surprised by this turn of events. He looks carefully at her to see if she happens to be the daughter we were looking for.

"Som what have you been attacked by, Yahn? Cute cuddly teddy bears?" the Ulfen man laughs in response to the Garundi's comments. "However, as me pappy always said, don't get into a fight if you ain't got the jibblies to take a shot to the face!"

Ha ha! Die you undead thing " he yells as he dispatches the smelly thing.

He helps to wake Idris and Echo (though he finally realizes that slapping Idris isn't helping).

Thorval moves around the paralyzed Idris, and swings out with Lefty.

Blinded by the water, Thorval cusses in Skald. Trusting in his luck, he swings away at the thing. He figures, if he swings hard, perhaps he'll land a blow! So, he moves up, so that he can actually hit the thing, and swings. "Ouch, damnit!" he exclaims, as his knee hits a sarcophagus. He then swings at the creature, hoping to land a solid blow.

He hears and feels his fists make solid contact, twice! "Yes, it is like me Pappy always says, if'n you can't see what you're hitting, you'll never know if you missed!"

With the spray of water, and the creature, Thorval knows exactly what he has to do. Of course, this is no surprise to anyone who has met him, because he almost always knows what to do when danger rears its ugly head... hit it in the face!

Being the well-trained tactical fighter that he is, he uses his mobility to get around to take a flank with Miyani, and then realizes that she apparently cannot see. He shrugs, and starts swinging.

"Come fight me, you lout!"

"Aww... man. Echo, did you have to do that? Where did all of that come from? I mean, you practically ate nothing at dinner... I ate most of yours!" He looks at his clothing and shoes, and shakes his head.

"I mean, really. Like me Pappy always said, if you can't hold your lunch, get out out of the kitchen!"

Thorval opens the door, and is ready to step into the room behind, when a wall of stench hits him full in the face. It isn't just the smell of death that hits him, but the fact that he can physically taste as well. He hiccups a couple of times, as if to throw chunks, but is able to control himself.

"COUGH! It's like me Pappy always said... when you Death stares you in the face, either you stand tall and stare him down, or you die with vomit on your shoes!"

"Here we go.

"Idris, you and me, my man. Or whatever you are."

Thorval makes sure Idris is next to him, and throws open the door.

Contrary to his father's teachings, Thorval starts thinking. His brow furrows, and he looks like he has indigestion. "Fellas, why don't we just keep moving, for now. We can always check up on them when we get back."

Having made a decision, Thorval pushes on, coming to the door, and the stairs. "Well, me Pappy always said, 'when exploring leave no door unopened!" With that, he opens the door. (He does wait for everyone to catch up to him)

"I dunno... they seem peaceful enough. But, I'll be the first to admin, I am not an expert in such things. As me Pappy always said, 'Let the thinking folks do the thinking. We Sons of Thorval are good for the hitting part.'"

He offers charges off his wand if it is deemed the proper thing to do by the group.

Thorval, once he has subdued Deris, has Myani use his wand to heal himself.

I suppose I should roll the healing.

Thorval, once he has subdued Deris, has Myani use his wand to heal himself.

"The man went all bat-s&&#-crazy when Echo used the wand on the kid that I could see through. Couldn't get him to calm down, so I had to knock him out. I'm gonna tie him up, just in case."

He takes his rope and ties up the old man.

"Calm down, man! She didn't kill anyone. They weren't really there. Or alive. Or something. Anyway, they weren't really kids any more!!" Throval puts his weight into his wrestling, and pushes the man to the ground. "Please calm down! I really don't want to hurt you! Echo, get out of his sight!"

Holding the old man close, Thorval yells out, "Now CALM DOWN or I will have to head butt you!"

"By the Strong Man that hurts!" Thorval yells out, as he lets go of Deris. "Deris, I am not trying to hurt you, but please don't do anything crazy! You'll kill us all! Yourself included!"

Hoping the crazy man understands this, Thorval turns to attack the ghoul that just shredded him.

"Guys! I ain't doin' so well. I could really use some help!" says the Ulfen, for perhaps the first time fearing for his life. He then shrugs, "Pappy always said, if you're gonna die, go down swinging!"

"Oh, Echo, I don't think you should have ought to have done that. No take care of those creatures, and I will make sure no harm comes to Deris. "

The rambunctious Ulfen steps toward Deris and says, "No, no, no! This is not what we wanted!" He steps up next to Deris, activates martial versatility to gain improved grapple, and tries to give the frighten man an Ulfen hug.

Improved grapple: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 6 + 2 = 17

"Just calm down, my friend. It will be just fine."

Thorval stands there, dumbfounded, for a moment, not knowing how to react. While he realizes he is often not the most... observant... of people, this man exceeds all expectations.

He waits to see what happens as Myani walks forward, reaching out. As he sees her hand pass through the girl, he realizes that Deris is seeing what he wants to see.

"My friend, I wish that were true. But, sadly, it is as me Pappy always said, 'You gotta play the hand you were dealt.' You and your Cassiel were dealt a crappy hand, and she paid the price. I don't think she's really here... I think she's just a shadow of what she used to be, and that she's been locked in here like this for some time. While she don't understand what she is, you need to." He turns the man to look him in the eye. "I am sorry."

He looks to the rest of the group for support. "We need to move on." he says somberly. "Deris, the children don't look hostile, but they also don't appear to be interacting with us. You can stay here, if you'd like, but we need to keep moving. Myani, do you think that Ti-Ti can help protect Deris?"

"Yahn, my buddy, you have all the weapons you'll ever need. It is as my pappy said, if'n you rely on your fists, you'll never be unarmed"

Thorval is fine... was I hit?

Thorval moves up to Deris. He reaches out and gently grasps the man by the shoulder. "I am sorry, my friend, but something seems to be wrong here. Your daughter does not appear to be completely here." He looks back, hoping beyond hope, that someone in the group is a better talker than he is.

"Um, can I ask a silly question? How long ago did this place drown?"

"Hey... I think something is not quite right, there. I can see through the kids!" says Thorval as Deris exclaims.

"Huh. Interesting. Nice Ring." Thorval grabs the papers and throws them into his pack. With no one capable of figuring out the ring, he shoves it on Lefty, and moves on. He then moves up to the door to the south, waits for everyone to gather, and pulls it open.

Since no one explained why his fists weren't working well, Thorval just continues pummeling with his Lefty and Righty. "Oh, well; Pappy always said if first it don't fall, hit 'em again until they do!"

When the workman stands, the Ulfen brawler leaps into action. He steps up to the thug that now walks. He activates his martial flexibility to get power attach, and punches it. "Let the Strong Man guide my blow!"

Thorval moves up, sees the man. "Hey, I'll bet I know where his arm is." he says, as he looks back.

"Been quite a while, shouldn't these bodies all be skeletons or something by now?"

He takes a look around, especially at the two bodies.

"Yahn, not sure we'll be going into the light. Aren't necropolises usually in the dark? Or is that just a fancy word for graveyard? I am confused again."
