This ranger ain't need to animal companions or magic, all I need is this shield to beat folks with.

The dogs of war better be well treated.

Updated Theodric with his brief backstory and changed his last name to Daeric.

Theodric's Story:
Theodric was born in the great halls of the Daevin noble family. Sworn to House Medvyed, they were a family deeply rooted in the old ways, their castle sitting at the edge of the Gronzi fortress. Despite always having been fair rulers, they became enraveled in political maneuvers which led to uprisings in the village they oversee, the family falling victim to false accusations which coincided with other unfortunate events. The unruly mob eventually somehow became armed and organized. They layed siege to the castle and while defending themselves most of the Daevin family were slaughtered and the fortress was put to the torch.

Theodric was but a boy when his father called for the defense to the last man, but he instructed three to escape through secret tunnels that ran into the forest, Theodric, his mother and grandfather fled persecution taking refuge in the forest. Within the first month his mother had fallen ill, her will to live crushed by her grief and she passed away not long after. Theodric's grandfather ruled before his father and passed on lordship immediately when his son was old enough to take rule, giving him the freedom to spend extended periods of time in the wild where he felt most comfortable. He would spend the next decade teaching Theodric about living in the wild and the proper respect for nature, while still instructing himself how to conduct himself like nobility. Eventually he passed away of old age, Theodric intered him and took up his grandfather's blade and shield and moved west, leaving Brevoy behind altogether and heading towards the River Kingdoms.

The journey was dangerous and in a battle Theodric's blade broke, leaving him to fight with just a shield which would remain his primary weapon.

Everyone, I updated the Campaign Info for this campaign to include information on the noble houses of Brevoy. In addition to the seven major houses I also included some names on the lesser houses that pledge fealty to the other houses.

Hopefully that will help in creating backgrounds and such.

More info will continue to be added.

Thanks.

Awesome. The flavor is almost enough to want to change my whole story so I'm from one of the houses.
Honestly, I'd prefer people stay away from one of the seven major houses as that can potentially cause problems later. But any of the lesser houses would be great, or a lesser house of your own creation.

I can change away from the major house if it will cause too much of a problem. Just need to make a choice now..

Dotting for interest. I know you said no to Gunslinger, how do you feel about the Bolt Ace archetype? The gun is completely replaced with a crossbow. If you'd rather avoid it completely I'd probably settle on either a Ranger or bow archetype Fighter but I'd like to give it a try.

Kennesty - my apologies for missing your question. Yes, I think the Bolt Ace would be acceptable. If you are still interested, there is plenty of time to put together an ap. Let me know if you have any other questions and I'll try and answer promptly!

Thanks.

No worries, I've submitted this character instead. Been wanting to try Kingmaker for a long time so I have at least a dozen character concepts sidelined for it.

Is the Guide Ranger I submitted acceptable in terms of backstory/build. And would taking a second Archetype for it (Skirmisher) to abolish the Rangers spell pool be alright as well. I know some folks who have a big distaste for double archetypes.

Character Concept:
Of course this is just the concept, I'll write up a more story oriented background and introduction if this idea is like. Essentially the character's family was noble but overthrown during political strife and fled to the wilderness to avoid execution. Theodric was just a young boy and with his mother and grandfather managed to escape the onslaught. The families respect for the wilderness allowed them to survive as well as good ties with some of the fey that lurk about. His mother became ill not long afterwards and weakened by grief passed away. His grandfather taught him a great deal about the wilderness, how to track and fight but eventually old age took him and Theodric picked up the family mantle.

The reason for the guide archetype is that Theodric guides folks traveling through the wilderness, I also wanted to eliminate the animal companion. I would like to also take the Skirmisher archetype at 5, I don't feel the character would use spells and the Hunter's Trick are much more fitting.

There's also the choice of using just a shield, when he was still young and struggling alone his sword broke mid battle and all he had left was a shield. It proved to be sufficient as a weapon and since then he has used nothing else but.

Complacency will be Theodric's main enemy, his growth would be to accept a bigger role in the world. His family motto "Endurance Overcomes all" will also be one of his biggest motivators to push forward.
