Male Dwarf Warpriest 7, Orc Hewer (AC: 22 [26 against monsters of the giant subtype], HP: 69/69) Giants Slain: Cave Giant x1, Hill Giant x3, Hill Giant Skeleton x1, Marsh Giant x1

Correction for last round. Reloading the heavy crossbow is a full round action, so Haftor didn't have time to load it last round. He slung it over his shoulder instead, since he's not going to need it.

Haftor calls out to Torag once again, raising his hammer high. Waves of positive energy wash out over everyone but Bronwyn.

Expend 2 uses of Fervor to Channel Energy healing Jarrek and Kronug. 2d6 ⇒ (1, 6) = 7 HP healed

Male Dwarf Warpriest 7, Orc Hewer (AC: 22 [26 against monsters of the giant subtype], HP: 69/69) Giants Slain: Cave Giant x1, Hill Giant x3, Hill Giant Skeleton x1, Marsh Giant x1

Haftor raises his hammer, "Torag protect your humble servant!" His armor wavers and glows white for a moment, then fades to normal again. He then loads his heavy crossbow.

Standard action for Sacred Armor +1, first round of 7. AC against giant types now 27.

Haftor's spot is good.

I'm back! Happy New Year all!

Male Dwarf Warpriest 7, Orc Hewer (AC: 22 [26 against monsters of the giant subtype], HP: 69/69) Giants Slain: Cave Giant x1, Hill Giant x3, Hill Giant Skeleton x1, Marsh Giant x1

I'm on leave and won't be posting now through New Year's Day. If you need to bot me, Haftor will help form the front line and hit baddies with his hammer. It has Acid Strike (+1d4 damage) for 1 minute.

Male Dwarf Warpriest 7, Orc Hewer (AC: 22 [26 against monsters of the giant subtype], HP: 69/69) Giants Slain: Cave Giant x1, Hill Giant x3, Hill Giant Skeleton x1, Marsh Giant x1

"We've got company coming." Haftor states the obvious as he moves to face the direction where he hears the sound coming from and ensures he's alongside Kronug, with Jarrek just behind them. He then invokes a Blessing.

Standard action for Acid Strike Blessing.

Male Dwarf Warpriest 7, Orc Hewer (AC: 22 [26 against monsters of the giant subtype], HP: 69/69) Giants Slain: Cave Giant x1, Hill Giant x3, Hill Giant Skeleton x1, Marsh Giant x1

Haftor grunts. "We should make ourselves known to these people and have them get behind us so we are between them and the baddies. Any objections?"

If there are no objections from the group, Haftor will walk toward the humans until he is at a distance where he can speak to them without shouting too loudly.

"Oy, yonder folk. Be you from Shinnerman's Fortune? We are Giantslayers out to rescue the captured villagers. If there be giants about, we offer you protection to make your way back to town."

Male Dwarf Warpriest 7, Orc Hewer (AC: 22 [26 against monsters of the giant subtype], HP: 69/69) Giants Slain: Cave Giant x1, Hill Giant x3, Hill Giant Skeleton x1, Marsh Giant x1

I'm leaning towards Shield Wall but Escape route looks good as well. Haftor isn't particularly effective in a charge. Does Haftor have to take a Teamwork feat to get the benefit? I'm working towards Giant Killer, but that isn't until BAB +11.

Male Dwarf Warpriest 7, Orc Hewer (AC: 22 [26 against monsters of the giant subtype], HP: 69/69) Giants Slain: Cave Giant x1, Hill Giant x3, Hill Giant Skeleton x1, Marsh Giant x1

Haftor has a low move base and is often near the bottom of the initiative list, so it would be tricky for him to get into proper position in a timely manner.

Jarrek could try to delay and not get too far out ahead of Haftor, but if the baddies act before Haftor there isn't much he can do.

Perhaps Jarrek could try to tactically retreat between Kronug and Haftor and see if the baddies run the gauntlet? It could work, or it could backfire.

Male Dwarf Warpriest 7, Orc Hewer (AC: 22 [26 against monsters of the giant subtype], HP: 69/69) Giants Slain: Cave Giant x1, Hill Giant x3, Hill Giant Skeleton x1, Marsh Giant x1

Haftor watches the Alderwoman depart with the babe, his expression dark. He looks around to ensure there are no other townspeople about before responding to Alder Sneth, adding to Kronug's comment.

"Aye, we will look for your people, but I would recommend that you take everyone you can to a more defensible place and wait this out. If we fail, those giants will return."

"Might I ask, how many giants were there, how big were they and which way did they go? It would be very helpful if you could make up a list of the missing, as well."

When their discussion has ended, he bows his head and adds, "I will pray to Torag for all the people of Shinnerman's Fortune."

Male Dwarf Warpriest 7, Orc Hewer (AC: 22 [26 against monsters of the giant subtype], HP: 69/69) Giants Slain: Cave Giant x1, Hill Giant x3, Hill Giant Skeleton x1, Marsh Giant x1

Haftor's craggy face is grim when they discover the baby, and progresses to be even grimmer as they find more and more destruction. His brow is set in a permanent frown by the time they meet the couple. If you listen closely, you can hear a prayer to Torag for the salvation of the many souls lost here, mumbled continuously under his breath.

He nods at Kronug's question, patiently awaiting their response.

Male Dwarf Warpriest 7, Orc Hewer (AC: 22 [26 against monsters of the giant subtype], HP: 69/69) Giants Slain: Cave Giant x1, Hill Giant x3, Hill Giant Skeleton x1, Marsh Giant x1

Haftor, who had slowly been building up his battle momentum, calls out for Torag to bless his weapon as he churns forward, slowly but surely, toward the troll.

Standard action for his Earth Blessing of Acid Strike, enhance his hammer with acidic potency for 1 minute, then move 15' straight east. I don't think that draws an AoO from the beastie.

Loot:

Steel hand - Jarrek
Heartspit (great name) - Jarrek
Nargrym's Armor - Jarrek
masterwork breastplate (? not sure where this came from - sell)
elaborately braided dwarven beard decorated with three gold rings
intricately engraved platinum beard clasp in the shape of a castle sitting atop a cloud

DM C - can we detect magic on the beard with the rings and the beard clasp? Haftor would want to return the beard to the family, or re-inter it, whichever they preferred, unless it had some powerful ju-ju.

Haftor is interested in claiming the beard clasp.

Haftor Level 7 coming up soon.

Male Dwarf Warpriest 7, Orc Hewer (AC: 22 [26 against monsters of the giant subtype], HP: 69/69) Giants Slain: Cave Giant x1, Hill Giant x3, Hill Giant Skeleton x1, Marsh Giant x1

Haftor raises a shaggy eyebrow in consideration of the woman before him. It was a bit unusual that a female dwarf would be out adventuring alone; this one was likely fierce and competent. "Orcrender," he commented with a respectful grunt. "An impressive name. I am Haftor Ygrendir, of the Janderhoff Stonefist Clan. Warpriest of Torag, and Orc Hewer. He chuckles with another grunt. "Hunting giants is a respectable profession. We're in the business of slaying giants, as it happens, and hunting them is an important part of the process. Well met indeed, and may the All-Father protect you."

Male Dwarf Warpriest 7, Orc Hewer (AC: 22 [26 against monsters of the giant subtype], HP: 69/69) Giants Slain: Cave Giant x1, Hill Giant x3, Hill Giant Skeleton x1, Marsh Giant x1

Haftor is quiet and contemplative after the intense fight with the evil Lokmorr. "Torag teaches that an honorable death can outweigh dishonorable acts in life. But it would have taken a great deal of redemption to make up for his heinous betrayal, good death or no. I will pray for wisdom on this."

He looks up at Kronug and Jarrek. "I'll not be needing the hand nor the spear, as the Hammer is Torag's favored weapon. Jarrek, you're welcome to it."

Male Dwarf Warpriest 7, Orc Hewer (AC: 22 [26 against monsters of the giant subtype], HP: 69/69) Giants Slain: Cave Giant x1, Hill Giant x3, Hill Giant Skeleton x1, Marsh Giant x1

Seamus should still get a standard action after his move action into the corner before Lokmorr's turn, right? Assuming he does, bomb attack 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (10) + 10 = 20 damage 3d6 + 4 ⇒ (4, 3, 5) + 4 = 16 exclude damage to allies.

Male Dwarf Warpriest 7, Orc Hewer (AC: 22 [26 against monsters of the giant subtype], HP: 69/69) Giants Slain: Cave Giant x1, Hill Giant x3, Hill Giant Skeleton x1, Marsh Giant x1

I'd suggest that Seamus try to tumble away from the fight, back to the most NE corner of room, and start throwing bombs. He's ineffective where he is now, because just about anything he does will draw an AoO. If he gets 15' away, he'll be out of AoO range and can use his precise bombs. Thoughts?

Male Dwarf Warpriest 7, Orc Hewer (AC: 22 [26 against monsters of the giant subtype], HP: 69/69) Giants Slain: Cave Giant x1, Hill Giant x3, Hill Giant Skeleton x1, Marsh Giant x1

Male Dwarf Warpriest 7, Orc Hewer (AC: 22 [26 against monsters of the giant subtype], HP: 69/69) Giants Slain: Cave Giant x1, Hill Giant x3, Hill Giant Skeleton x1, Marsh Giant x1

It was established in post 4264 that The Betrayer is not undead, or at least he didn't take any damage from a positive channel to harm undead. Roshelle would know this since it happened just a few rounds ago in game time. It was mid-July in RL, so I'm not too surprised it was overlooked. I think Roshelle would have used Selective Channel to exclude Lokmorr, knowinf what she knows in game.

Also, I think Seamus should try to get past Lokmorr and set up a flank. It didn't work for Haftor, but that was because I rolled a 1. I still think it's a solid tactic, since the baddie can't take any action to hurt Seamus if he fails.

Male Dwarf Warpriest 7, Orc Hewer (AC: 22 [26 against monsters of the giant subtype], HP: 69/69) Giants Slain: Cave Giant x1, Hill Giant x3, Hill Giant Skeleton x1, Marsh Giant x1

Seeing the baddie fall prone, Haftor tries to charge past into the hall beyond. He calls out "Torag!" in a bellowing voice as he barrels through.

Use Sacred Weapon ability as a swift action to enhance my hammer with an additional +1 enhancement bonus (6 rds). Then, use Overrun to move through Lokmorr's square. Intent is to get into the hallway behind him and block him from continuing to back away and use reach. So, 5' NW, then N into his square, then N again to get right "behind" him.

Overrun with CMB 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7

EDIT: Poop. Haftor is stopped in the space right in "front" of the little bugger.

Male Dwarf Warpriest 7, Orc Hewer (AC: 22 [26 against monsters of the giant subtype], HP: 69/69) Giants Slain: Cave Giant x1, Hill Giant x3, Hill Giant Skeleton x1, Marsh Giant x1

Can Haftor move into the space directly S of Lokmorr, the space with the circular icon? If he can, is it possible with a 5' step?

Male Dwarf Warpriest 7, Orc Hewer (AC: 22 [26 against monsters of the giant subtype], HP: 69/69) Giants Slain: Cave Giant x1, Hill Giant x3, Hill Giant Skeleton x1, Marsh Giant x1

Invisible Haftor whispers a prayer to Torag, and positive energy washes over Roshelle.

He then draws his hammer as he moves through her square, then through Kronug's square, so that he's directly S of the baddie.

Male Dwarf Warpriest 7, Orc Hewer (AC: 22 [26 against monsters of the giant subtype], HP: 69/69) Giants Slain: Cave Giant x1, Hill Giant x3, Hill Giant Skeleton x1, Marsh Giant x1

OK, I assumed that this guy was undead, and he wasn't. I'm not going to make the mistake of assuming he can't see invisible. In any case, drinking a potion is a standard action, so I'll do that first, while I'm out of his reach. Now Invisible, use Fervor to cast Ironskin as a swift action, for +4 to natural armor AC (total 26 AC against this guy).

Male Dwarf Warpriest 7, Orc Hewer (AC: 22 [26 against monsters of the giant subtype], HP: 69/69) Giants Slain: Cave Giant x1, Hill Giant x3, Hill Giant Skeleton x1, Marsh Giant x1

OK, stay down, Jarrek. Haftor will turn invisible then move into melee, then Roshelle can come in and heal.

Male Dwarf Warpriest 7, Orc Hewer (AC: 22 [26 against monsters of the giant subtype], HP: 69/69) Giants Slain: Cave Giant x1, Hill Giant x3, Hill Giant Skeleton x1, Marsh Giant x1

I'm going on leave tommorrow and my responses for the next few weeks will be thin. Bot Haftor if needed. It depends on what the baddie does, of course, but Haftor will probably take a swing at his opponent, then take a 5' step back to give his allies some maneuver room and get him out of AoO range so he can do healing/support as needed.

Male Dwarf Warpriest 7, Orc Hewer (AC: 22 [26 against monsters of the giant subtype], HP: 69/69) Giants Slain: Cave Giant x1, Hill Giant x3, Hill Giant Skeleton x1, Marsh Giant x1

Classic case of Chuck the player not wanting to be the pain in the arse that Haftor the character would probably be in this situation. The fact is, though, we came to this tomb to take valuable stuff, and to change our minds at this point would be counterproductive. Anyway, let's kill the baddie and see what he looted before we got here.

And the carpet?

Haftor seems pensive for a moment, then comments, "If we seek gear to fight the giants, then we should take everything of value, right? I already wear armor more suitable than this, though, and so I lay no claim to it. I hesitate to strip this hero of his armor to sell it for coin, so I propose: If no one wishes to claim it for their own use, we reseal the lid and allow Steelhand to return to his rest."
