So, if we aren't going to just go back in the way we did last time, how are we approaching the fort? Our sneaky back-door seems perfect, if we can somehow tell whether the fort security figured out our egress route. Maybe we could recon the area around the sewer gate to see if anyone is watching / guarding it? Am I being too simplistic?

Not power, just whiskey. In my defense, I am on leave.

I always take the HP for FC, and lvl 6 is no exception. I'll fix it.

Also, and I'm just sayin', but Trianne has truly Freudian hang-up on Haftor's hammer. Sometimes a hammer is just a hammer, but sometimes it ain't. Amirite?

I'm going on leave for a little over a week, and might not be able to post. Please bot Haftor as necessary. He can heal everyone up in the morning, but if it takes several of his channels, he'll suggest they take another day of rest so they don't go back to the fort depleted.

Male Dwarf Warpriest 6, Orc Hewer (AC: 22 [26 against monsters of the giant subtype], HP: 56/60) Giants Slain: Cave Giant x1, Hill Giant x3, Hill Giant Skeleton x1, Marsh Giant x1

So, try to hang out with the orcs, or leave the immediate area and hole up somewhere a mile or so from the fort. I'm leaning toward the latter, just to err on the side of caution.

Male Dwarf Warpriest 6, Orc Hewer (AC: 22 [26 against monsters of the giant subtype], HP: 56/60) Giants Slain: Cave Giant x1, Hill Giant x3, Hill Giant Skeleton x1, Marsh Giant x1

Hanging around to spy will probably turn into a fight we don't want. My vote is to move along.

Male Dwarf Warpriest 6, Orc Hewer (AC: 22 [26 against monsters of the giant subtype], HP: 56/60) Giants Slain: Cave Giant x1, Hill Giant x3, Hill Giant Skeleton x1, Marsh Giant x1

Out of the room, or out of the sewer grate? I was thinking we would travel as a group to the sewer, then use a scout with vanish to have a look around outside the sewer before we all moved out.

Haftor produces a grim smile and responds with a brotherly clasp to Jarrek's upper arm. "Aye."

Male Dwarf Warpriest 6, Orc Hewer (AC: 22 [26 against monsters of the giant subtype], HP: 56/60) Giants Slain: Cave Giant x1, Hill Giant x3, Hill Giant Skeleton x1, Marsh Giant x1

"All right, then. Let's make our way back to the sewer and have a look-see at the situation before we get too far ahead of ourselves."

Unless anyone argues for a different course of action, Haftor will lead the way upstairs and we'll see if our handiworks have been discovered. If not, we'll keep rolling across that level until we get to the latrine and head down into the sewer.

Male Dwarf Warpriest 6, Orc Hewer (AC: 22 [26 against monsters of the giant subtype], HP: 56/60) Giants Slain: Cave Giant x1, Hill Giant x3, Hill Giant Skeleton x1, Marsh Giant x1

Fair enough. We should backtrack the way we came and try not to expose ourselves to a bunch of orcs we haven't dealt with before. If we can't avoid it, we'll just have to murder some orcs and hope we don't start a civil war.

Male Dwarf Warpriest 6, Orc Hewer (AC: 22 [26 against monsters of the giant subtype], HP: 56/60) Giants Slain: Cave Giant x1, Hill Giant x3, Hill Giant Skeleton x1, Marsh Giant x1

Act casual.

Actually, I have no idea. How many people can Trianne vanish? Maybe some magic noise or lights or something as a distraction? Haftor can enlarge to large size and pretend to be a hirsute hill giant. Run like hell? Just spitballing.

Male Dwarf Warpriest 6, Orc Hewer (AC: 22 [26 against monsters of the giant subtype], HP: 56/60) Giants Slain: Cave Giant x1, Hill Giant x3, Hill Giant Skeleton x1, Marsh Giant x1

Haftor raises his eyebrows in surprise and appreciation. He was expecting a protracted discussion, perhaps even an argument, but then they were suddenly in agreement, and moving. This suited the Warpriest just fine.

He slipped his warhammer into its belt loop, took the javelin from Trianne (assuming it's still on offer) then followed Kronug out the door.

Male Dwarf Warpriest 6, Orc Hewer (AC: 22 [26 against monsters of the giant subtype], HP: 56/60) Giants Slain: Cave Giant x1, Hill Giant x3, Hill Giant Skeleton x1, Marsh Giant x1

Haftor tilts his head back and lets out a single barking laugh at Trianne's suggestion. "HA! Now, THAT is an idea! I like the way you think."

When Kronug points out how unlikely the plan is to work, however, he is forced to agree. "I don't fancy hauling ogres up the steps, either, and it would take some time as well." He shakes his head in disappointment. "No, it's too risky, but we can't stay here either. There's no back door out of here if we're discovered. My vote is to leave the building entirely."

Male Dwarf Warpriest 6, Orc Hewer (AC: 22 [26 against monsters of the giant subtype], HP: 56/60) Giants Slain: Cave Giant x1, Hill Giant x3, Hill Giant Skeleton x1, Marsh Giant x1

Haftor rubs his head in deep thought. You can almost see the gears working in there as he considers the layout of what they've seen of this building so far. He finally offers what he sees as their options. He holds up his index finger. "So, there doesn't seem to be anything else on this level that we can access directly. If we stay here, more ogres will come eventually, maybe soon." He adds a second finger. "If we go upstairs, we may run into baddies that are investigating how the manticore escaped. But if we quickly go to the privy and climb back down into the sewer, we probably won't be spotted. We could then find a relatively clean and stench-free spot to hole up and rest, and praise Torag, of course. I think this is our safest option. Or..." He raises a third finger, "We push our luck and go back down to the well and explore one more room. Risky, but we might find a better hidey-hole." He raises a bushy eyebrow, awaiting everyone's opinions.

Male Dwarf Warpriest 6, Orc Hewer (AC: 22 [26 against monsters of the giant subtype], HP: 56/60) Giants Slain: Cave Giant x1, Hill Giant x3, Hill Giant Skeleton x1, Marsh Giant x1

Haftor stands and frowns at the decapitated skeleton for a few long moments before finally making a decision and removing the castellan's chain and slipping it into a belt pouch.

"Regardless of what a piece of shite this particular castellan was, the chain of office is a piece of history, grim though it may be. I won't leave it to be looted or lost. We can try to return it to...someone...official? I don't know."

Faced with all the unpleasantness, the warpriest seems a bit off his game.

He turns to Trianne. "Why, after all these years, would these monsters have this ritual set up? Is it arcane magic, would you say? Maybe the ogre was a necromancer."

Finally, he responds to Kronug. "There doesn't seem to be much coming and going in this building, but that doesn't mean there won't be. We could hunker down in a room here and hope we don't get discovered and trapped, or we could go back out the sewer and find a tent or something to squat in. The tent seems like the less risky choice."

Male Dwarf Warpriest 6, Orc Hewer (AC: 22 [26 against monsters of the giant subtype], HP: 56/60) Giants Slain: Cave Giant x1, Hill Giant x3, Hill Giant Skeleton x1, Marsh Giant x1

"Disgusting. Just vile." Haftor looks around the room, frowning his displeasure. "What would make a thinking creature want to... He trails off, losing interest in finishing his own thought. "Ughh," he finally manages, before getting back down to business.

"I can make use of the scrolls, though not the vellum."

Finally, he produces their wand of healing. "We're down to this."

Jarrek - I can't take my actions until after the baddie goes. If you delay waiting for me, you'll lose your turn this round.

EDIT: Actually, looking at the map, I should be 5' to the west of my current position based on my move this round.

Sending a silent prayer to Torag for their good fortune so far, Haftor steps up to the ogre to the west and continues his attacks.

Haftor concentrates briefly, and arcs of lighting begin to dance on the head of his hammer. He steps directly between the two ogres, winds up over his shoulder in an almost comically overemphasized maneuver, then swings his hammer around in a great, sloppy arc, attempting to hit both of the big lunks.

His fists planted on his hips, Haftor considers the cauldron for a long moment, as if it might somehow divulge its secrets. Eventually, he hikes up his belt with a huff, then suggests, How about those double doors to the SW?"

Before anyone can answer, he channels positive energy from Torag.

Is there some kind of theological reason to try to find out how to dispel this haunt? If it were a ghost, we might want to lay its soul to rest, for example. Is this a similar situation, or just a quirk of negative vibes that we can walk away from with a clear conscience?

He works his way south, along the cage, then west, until he can get to the double doors at the western end of the room. "Let's take a look in here; make sure we don't have any danger at our backs."
