”People talk. Sailors talk more,” Tekaronhió:ken muttered to himself when he first heard the rumors spreading amongst the crew. It was something his father had been fond of saying whenever the sailors from Minkai would come ashore for provisions and trade.
With each new voice added, his father’s voice would repeat, ”People talk. Sailors talk more.” Even when he started hearing the addition of Crow being River’s personal guard, Tekaronhió:ken brushed it off as idle gossip. Though, if he were to be honest with himself, jealousy did tinge the edges of his vision when he saw the larger portion on the large warrior’s plate. It quickly faded as his own meal filled his belly.
”I had heard the same,” Tekaronhió:ken said in reply to Seander. ”I believe it is only idle chatte-” He cut himself short as River launched into her tale and quickly found himself invested in the story.
When the crowd began to applaud, the rougarou tilted his head back to let out a howl. Time and experience had taught him to subdue much of his own culture but, here, now, under the moon and stars it just seemed…right.

With the Holidays over (save New Year's) I should be able to get a post up today. I wanted to yesterday but the other person on my team was out sick so I had to play catch-up solo. My work closed early the 22nd but because the 23rd and 24th aren't business holidays, other companies continued on so... 3 days of backlog to get through lol.
I'm still pretty new to PbP so I'm not too sure on proper pacing. That being said, I have no problem taking a bit of a backseat for a while as far as personal storylines go. I'm still figuring him out a bit.
Even in IRL gaming, the issue Edmund brought up occurs (though not as much real time spent). I think as long as we agree to just put something in the discussion thread when we feel like something might be dragging a bit, we should be fine right?

The rougarou mostly held his tongue as the group reunited on the deck. Had he really been that late? Or perhaps the detour with Stopherlyn had taken longer than he originally thought. Regardless, once again, he decided to chalk it up to the extended leave messing with his internal clock again.
Tekaronhió:ken returned Seander’s smile and gave a slight wave using just the first two fingers and his thumb. ”Good kid, that one,” he muttered. And he knew that was putting it lightly. Afterall, Tekaronhió:ken had all but stumbled into the grasping claws of the Corsairs. And with no one else having been aware of his location, he might not have ever come off the ship.
Once below deck, Tekaronhió:ken finally poke up to the others. ”They have already tried something stupid,” the last word came out coated in shame. ”I could not find the Even Odds and, I am sure you heard Seander mention that their Captain Stopherlyn was harassing me. Well, he nearly got me onboard their vessel, The Opportunity Knocked. I don’t think I have ever had such direct contact with any of the Corsairs before today. Still, I should have known better. Stopherlyn certainly did.” He set his belongings down beside one of the bunks as he spoke.
Desperate for a change of subject,Tekaronhió:ken jumped at an opportunity when RIver fled back upstairs. ”I hope Ohneka does not wind up annoying any of the crew,” he said with a grin. ”I’d hate to think what would happen if she got tossed overboard.”

GM:
Everything happened so fast that Tekaronhió:ken barely had time to register the events before he was ushered along. When he finally caught up, Tekaronhió:ken’s head whipped around to glare at Stopherlyn. ”Begging your pardon, Ser Seander, but did that man just call me a dog? I distinctly heard the phrase ‘wet dog like you.’”
The rougarou kept his eyes trained on the first man as Seander pulled him along only forcing himself to look away when the image of himself falling off the dock formed in his mind.
”Thank you, Ser Seander. My name is Tekaronhió:ken. From The House of Fate and Fire.” Out of habit, and with a hint of despondency, he immediately added, “Perhaps you have heard of The Dümfloofer?”
Tekaronhió:ken looked up to spot the source of the shouting. He leaned his head toward Seander muttered, “Gossman, no? I have yet to see this man in good spirits.”

With his new wares safely stored away, Tekaronhió:ken made his way down to the docks. He paused to look up and down the docks at the various ships. Even now, after all these years, he still got that same feeling in his gut that he did as a pup when he looked at a ship. A ship was adventure. It was romance. It was freedom. It was danger. It was anything and everything that its captain and crew wanted it to be.
Someone carrying a cask of some alcohol bumped into the Rougarou and brought him back to his senses. “I guess I picked a poor place to daydream, no?” Tekaronhió:ken said to no one in particular. AFter a moment of scratching at the back of his head, Tekaronhió:ken spoke again, this time projecting over the bustling workers. “So, would anyone care to direct me to the Even Odds?”

Tekaronhió:ken pocketed one of the wayfinders. It always felt like doing so was what truly kicked off the next assignment. There was always a rush of adrenaline that put his senses on high alert and he sometimes felt ashamed at how much he craved that feeling. Tekaronhió:ken took the last of the potions before slipping the Gloves, Wand, and tablet into his bag. They could decide who’s holding what later.
After the group split to make preparations, Tekaronhió:ken headed down to the Rainbow Bazaar to pick up a few things. Heading into mines meant heading into dark caves. And that meant the possibility of running into things that were used to living in said caves.

Tekaronhió:ken shrank a little. Another instance of being out of his depth and still trying to contribute. “I forgot that the mountains run along both borders,” he muttered.
"Three hundred people vanished without any noticeable tracks. Seems, fairly obvious that they went down into the mines, no?" Tekaronhió:ken risked further embarrassment to ask another question.

Geography:1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13HEY!
The rougarou crunched on the bonbon and looked from person to person as they spoke, his ears turning to face them before his eyes. So much new information being tossed around. A mine with weird silver. The World's Edge Mountains. Orcs? Priests of Abadar. Magic failing to turn up answers. Tekaronhió:ken blinked and shook his head.
Sometimes, he really wished his village had been able to provide a better education to their pups. Not that Tekaronhió:ken was simple, if you needed someone to explore a cave system or help build a basic bridge, Tekaronhió:ken could do it. Better yet, if you needed someone to do some reconnaissance, he was your wolf.
Still, he could never keep that tinge of shame from creeping in whenever he found himself lost in conversations.
“Question: Casmaron. That’s Qadiran land, correct? I’m sure it will not be long before the blame starts to be laid at their feet. Regardless if they are responsible or not.”I hope that's okay.

Tekaronhió:ken’s darted to Jebediahthen Edmund, the confusion clear even on the canine features. All of these years and still he found it off how the people of this continent could so easily turn down an offer from one’s host. “I would be honored to accept a brandy or some water,” he said.
His eyes fell on the kikko armor. He knew that Konishi was from Tian Xia, you could tell just by looking at the man, but it still gave Tekaronhió:ken pause to see the foreign armor here in Avistan. Growing up with the Okaiyo Ocean in his backyard, it was not such an oddity to see sailors or adventurers in similarly styled armor. But here, here one might struggle to find a smith with the knowhow or skill to make something in the fashion.
The rougarou pulled his eyes away from the armor and moved to stand next to one of the empty chairs, though he waited for Konishi to sit before seating himself.
“Bonbons are those little chocolate confectioneries? I probably shouldn’t, chocolate tends to upset my stomach.” Tekaronhió:ken straightened, ”However, if you are offering, I’d like one of those as well.”

“A new mission? Thank the spirits,” Tekaronhió:ken sighed. “I think my fur was beginning to mat waiting around here.” He punctuated the sentence by tugging at an imaginary patch of matted fur.
The rougarou had only taken a few steps toward the table when River flowed into the room. He flashed a toothy grin and nodded respectfully as she passed by him. “Good morning, Ohneka.” Back home, Tekaronhió:ken would never have been so informal with a being like Ogneka. But then, home had not been home for some time now.
Tekaronhió:ken took another step toward the table and again was cut short as Jebediah hurried by and climbed into one of the chairs. ”I was just saying something similar, Jebediah” Tekaronhió:ken said as he finally claimed a chair for himself. ”Though I think I could - oh, I would appreciate a fair helping of bacon - I could do without any undead - and maybe a few sausages as well? - since they almost always smell terrible.” Tekaronhió:ken furrowed his brow as he realized Jebediah was turning down a meal. “What? You’re not eating? Crow,” He said, ”I’ll have the Doctor’s share if you already started it. If not, well, I suppose that is okay as well.”

Using the Spear Dancing Style, Dum can use two-weapon fighting with both ends of his ranseur as if the offhand is a light mace. He can grant reach to one or both ends when full round attacking. That’s kinda his main “gimmick”. But he also has a decent perception with low-light vision and scent.

The problem with extended periods between assignments. Tekaronhió:ken found that he almost always slipped into his childhood habit of sleeping well past sunrise when given more than a week or so to dictate his own sleeping patterns. Of course, the late nights in the Adobe District were not helping either.
The rougarou cracked open one eye. A single sunbeam took the opportunity to stab at his cornea causing Tekaronhió:ken to wince and squeeze the eye shut again. He pulled one arm over his face and let out a groan.
“If any deity wants a new worshipper,” Tekaronhió:ken said as he slung one leg out of his bed, ”I offer my services in exchange for a hot cup of coffee and a ham steak waiting by my bed.” He let his arm drop and sat up, planting both feet on the cool floor. “I’m serious,” he added before opening one eye, then the other.
”Your loss,” Tekaronhió:ken said with a sigh. ”I wouldn’t have been picky on the deity either. He started to slip on his clothes for the day and was still buttoning up the front of his shirt when he stepped out into the common room.

I finished up Tekaronhió:ken's statblock last night and wrapped up the questions this morning. I was going to hold off until the discussion for Table 2 opened up but I see Edmund and Crow already posted here so I hope it's okay.
I took the average for HP because I know how my dice rolls are.
Stats are on the profile along with the background questions I had originally posted.
I answered the questions regarding the other characters based off of their questionnaires/background info. As of this post, I haven't read through the other's answers yet. I'm sure if there is anything contradictory in any of our answers, we can all figure something out.
Anyways, here you go!
Player questions::
What do you look forward to most in a campaign, roleplay, combat, or a healthy mix of both? I’ve always been a fan of having a good mix. That doesn’t necessarily mean every session has to have RP and combat. As far as I’m concerned, it’s completely normal to have entire sessions that are just combat or go 2-3 sessions with nothing but roleplay. Granted, this being PbP, I think it opens up a lot of room for people to RP even in combat.
What makes a campaign great to you? What would absolutely ruin one for you? When everyone gets their moments to shine and excel, then I know it’s a great game. SOmething that can, and has, ruined a campaign for me is when one player is being heavily favored over the rest.
What are your soft limits as a player? What about your hard limits? Actually, I think my only limit is “fading to black” for romantic scenes. No one needs to hear the details of how the gnome and centaur go at it. I’m an adult and I’ve read books and watched shows/movies with adult scenarios. That being said, I’m fully onboard with everyone agreeing to leave certain subject matter off the table.
There may be times when there’s a conflict of interest between characters. I don’t plan on facilitating PvP, but it may come up. How do you feel about rolling dice against other players? I also try to avoid it but sometimes it makes sense for the story.
Do you have any phobia or trauma-trigger that I should know and shy away from? Nope.
On a scale of 1-10, what difficulty level do you like to sit at? 1 being a new player friendly campaign, with 10 being the kind of games you hear tales of in hushed whispers in your FLGS (Tomb of Horrors, Slumbering Tsar, etc.) I like a little bit of a challenge but I also tend to get really invested in my characters. I guess, a 7 or 8?
Meta questions::
How do you want me to handle mass dice rolls? For example, to expedite some events, would you like me to roll initiative/perception checks/saves for the group? Would you rather me only do so if a player needs to be botted? From what I’ve seen in Pbp, initiative is the big one that makes sense for the GM to roll.
Where would you like to see your character’s arc go as the campaign moves past the initial adventure? I’d love to get a chance to track down The Chelishman. But. I also see an interesting angle where my character is coping with the idea that he will never find the man.
How large would you like to see this campaign be geographically? Similar to the Pathfinder Society where you could be in Absalom one day, then all the way in Tian Xia the next? Or would you rather have a smaller, more compact campaign with more recurring characters and themes, with traveling outside of Taldor being an occasional treat? That’s a hard one. I love recurring characters but globetrotting is fun. I suppose the notion of having a home base in the guild lends itself to the possibility of both. Get sent somewhere. Come back. Interact and catch up with npc’s. Go somewhere else.
I had planned on using Roll 20 for maps and handouts. How do you feel about that and, if you don’t care for R20, do you have a different preference? I’m fine with Roll20. But I have noticed that more people use Google Slides here and it seems to work well enough.
Character questions::
How long has your character been with the House of Fate and Fire? 2 - 3 years
Name at least 3 people who your character would consider to be “close” whether it’s friends, family, or acquaintances. At least one should be outside of the House.
-Ojistah: childhood sweetheart and another rougarou. Last seen just outside their village in Arcadia.
-Uruk: a half-orc guard for one of the wineries in the Fortress Estates. The two regularly meet up at the tavern to play dice for copper coins and argue over who is supposed to be purchasing the next round.
-Sanos: a human teenager living in the Adobe District. Sanos got caught trying to pick Düm’s pocket shortly after the rougarou arrived in Zimar. Out of a mixture of pity and kindness, Düm didn’t turn the girl in. The two have developed a game where Sanos will try to filch some of Düm’s coins. If she gets caught, Sanos has to return the coins. Every now and then, Düm will not notice and Sanos makes off with a few gold.
What are 4 rumors around the guild or around town about your character? Try to hit Good/True, Bad/True, Good/False, and Bad/False.
-Good/True: Some evenings, a large, wolf can be seen racing across rooftops in the Adobe District. That’s The Dümfloofer in his wolf form.
-Bad/True: Tekaronhió:ken is extremely untrusting of people from Cheliax. He’s been known to attack Chelish people after little provocation. Once, he chased some poor travelling merchant right out of town.
-Good/False: The Dümfloofer once challenged a hill giant to a foot race. He shifted into that wolf form of his and easily outpaced the giant. That’s how he came into possession of his ranseur.
-Bad/False: The Dümfloofer was once human but was cursed by a hag after killing and eating her familiar. Supposedly, he was lost in the forest for days without food or drink and thought the familiar (sometimes it’s a goat, sometimes a bird, usually it’s a cat) was a wild animal.
Adventuring is a dangerous profession, does your character have a will? What does it contain? Tekaronhió:ken does not have a will.
Competition is a big motivator for some adventurers. Who is your rival? It could be friendly, unfriendly, intense, one-sided, etc. There is a particularly rowdy human woman named Fylon Nettle. And she is just that. A thorn in Tekaronhió:ken’s side. If there the chance to make the rougarou look incompetent or weak arrises, Fylon will take it. She seems to place little stock in good sportsmanship or competition. She just wants to win.
Does your character have any ranks in a Craft, Perform, or Profession skill? If so, which one and where did they learn their craft? Tekaronhió:ken has a few ranks in Profession (fisherman). He grew up on an island, afterall.
What are your character’s short term, mid-term, and long-term goals?
Short term: complete the next challenge
Mid-term: help make a difference in the world, or, at least, in Zimar.
Long-term: Eiter find The Chelishman or return to Arcadia. Maybe even both.
What phobia or trauma has happened in your character’s past to help them become who they are today? Tekaronhió:ken watched through swollen eyes as the ship bound for Cheliax left with so many of Arcadia’s children. His battered, and broken limbs were not strong enough to help save the young girl who jumped into the sea. He was only able to show her family where she had washed up the next day.
How does your character view the Gods? They are there and their clerics offer good advice to the downtrodden. Tekaronhió:ken doesn’t worship any in particular but he would never offer insults either.
Looking at your team, how does your character feel about the others?
Edmund Gwenn: The two share a similar reason for having joined up with Fate and Fire so it’s probable that the two have spent time commiserating over their losses. And if so, it’s likely the two would have helped each other with leads for their respective investigations. Düm is always asking the older man to relay the information found in Edmund’s books.
Dr. Jebediah Castle: A rougarou and a goblin walk into a bar...no seriously. Jeb’s love of games and Düm’s competitive nature have led to many raucous evenings where the games become more and more elaborate. Knowing common prejudices against goblins, and already wary of taking his wolf form in the city, Düm makes it a special point to not take his wolf form when just he and Jeb are together.
Crow Irontouched: The warpriest is everything Düm refused to become on the battlefield: a lumbering warrior plodding forward to make painstakingly slow strikes with a massive piece of steel. At least, that’s how he viewed the man at first. Over time, Düm has come to appreciate Crow’s surgical movements. In truth, they make an impressive duo and regularly spar.
River: Another soul looking for someone. ”Does the House just attract us?” Much like with Edmund, if River ever asked for help looking for her friend, Tekaronhió:ken would gladly help. It didn’t take long for Tekaronhió:ken to to start calling River “Ohneka”. A word meaning water in his own language. Of all the team members, Ohneka is probably the one with whom Tekaronhió:ken feels the most comfortable simply relaxing along the Jalrune or simply resting under a tree.
How does your character deal with failure? Success? Winning and losing are two sides of the same coin, and both are worthy of acknowledgment. I treat champions with respect, but honor losers for their courage and willingness to challenge themselves.
