Wait, wait. Could you explain that to me? :D Lets say in Tessai's example - if she took the Evangelist Prestige Class, she would advance as Paladin and get the Oracle casting progression via Evangelist?![]()
![]() Well, I would be very interested in this one! And since for some strange obscure reason no one has spoken about Paladins yet, this might be my chance! Tessai here is a good sample of the Paladin I would probably like to play in Wrath of the Righteous (in this iteration she is level 4, but of course would be tuned down to level 1). Prestige class is something I would have to mull on. For now I imagine her as a tiefling left abandoned in the wilds of the Worldwound. Having lived as an animal for some time, spared from simply being crushed by any other demonic servant perhaps for her heritage, or simply surviving by hiding in the deepest hole she could find. Even after having been taken in by a priest of Iomedae, fascinated with the creature's will to live, it was hard for her to shake away her old ways, behaving like somewhat of an animal for months until her benefactor was able to bring some measure of reasoning into the creature - he saw something in her that others did not. Her education was mainly in the tenets of Iomedae, and she was found to adhere to them almost instinctively - her benefactor would call her the most amazing of contradictions - but in her heart, she has not yet heard the calling (my way of starting her as an Oracle), she felt as if she was not yet ready to embrace the faith, too many questions lingering at the edge of her conscience, her heritage not the least important of them. So the early stages of the game would be important for her to find her center, and realize her potential - I like these kinds of things in games, where there is room for character growth and discovery. The playstyle for Tessai is that of a Guardian/Protector for the group. Being a Paladin growing firm in her convictions, I think she could play a major role in moving the game forward both in confrontation or roleplay scenarios (we all know how things can get 'stuck' in PbP). I do not like to play straightforward Paladins, but she can still bring decisive action for the party when needed. Mechanically I think she can be a very resilient tank/frontliner, with the ability to be the first to engage in a scuffle, and leave room for others to do their thing. As far as personality goes, I like the 'demon lurking behind her eyes' notion. She does not know who 'sired' her, so there is also room for dramatic development there. She has occasional horrible nightmares - with images she does not know if they are from her past or her future. I have much more boiling in my head, but this is Tessai in a nutshell :) (My second option would be a melee Bard, but since zefig is already going for DD, I will park that idea :D) ![]()

![]() Ok, I said I would not apply but it is hard to resist :P If by any reason Flanderdash does NOT apply with his Paladin, I will put Tessai forward. Just because I think you cannot traverse the Realms (or any land of adventure really!) without a Paladin :) All crunchy bits are in the alias! Fluff wise, I am getting a vibe along the lines of she being perhaps kept as a 'demonic' pet and trophy for an Underdark slaver during her early years, constantly beaten (and perhaps worse) as she was naturally ferocious and tried to fight back her captivity. Then... Perhaps she was liberated by a band of adventurers, one of them becoming her mentor? Or maybe she simply was traded to the surface and managed to escape? Living on the run until finally she found solace in the temple of - I am in doubt here which one would make more sense, Helm or Hoar? I would play her as a grim and unforgiving one, hardened by many years of suffering. As close to 'Eye for an Eye' as it may be possible for a Paladin. I have a clear picture of the character, but I like the background to be open ended, and in fact there are things about her past she knows nothing about. ![]()
![]() Hi everyone - wanted to let you all know unfortunately I am dropping out from the game. If anyone would like a detailed account, feel free to PM me, otherwise I will simply say there are a few things which are not working out for me, and causing me not to enjoy our adventure. With that being said, I wish you good luck with the game going forward - I really think this is a very solid group of players. Apologies for dropping out like this, and hope to see you around the boards! ![]()
![]() I think we are agreed to take a rest for tonight, tomorrow take the prisoners to the place where the boat will be picking us up, and then return. Correct? As everyone settles down to rest, Tessai again tends over the prisoners as best as she can, then makes sure they are toward the interior of their camp, where it is safer. "I can take the first watch" ![]()
![]() "It is agreed then - we will rest tonight. And I am sure the blow we dealt them has not been a mild one, so that has to count for something, if they are considering retaliation" - the paladin nods at her companions - "I will take this moment of respite to congratulate you all for your bravery my friends - your actions down there have been a sight to behold" Ting Ting Ting wrote:
"I would not want to have anything to do with those Ting - it is a matter of faith and nothing else. You are maybe not bound by such beliefs? Yet you still have the option to decide not everything should be... 'Up for grabs' as one says" - she offers her advice, but leaves the decision to her companion - "I will assist you if you instead decide to topple that idol however. This place has an oppressive aura to it, and it may have something to do with these statues" ![]()
![]() Hi everyone! Just poking and prodding (again) to ask if there is any remote chance we could pick up the pace a bit on this game? I will assume right off the bat, even though it is going very slow I think it has a lot of potential and it is a great challenge, so that is why I keep bumping Discussion to make sure it is alive and kicking :) I was under the impression we had at least agreed to daily postings (and I know some of us do check it very regularly)? Any chance we could go all back to that rhythm? ![]()

"Very well then, let us get you out of here" - Tessai nodded, then helped as she could to get people moving outside. DMofGraves - some of us offered food and water to the prisoners. Was it accepted? Did they eat and drink? "We will not be able to take you back to a secure location... We are looking for a small child which is hopefully still alive, but in danger" - Tessai explained as they went - "So we will need to go back to the temple as soon as possible. We will leave you in the safest location we can find, and then come back for you" - she continued - "In three days, Captain Riko will pull up with his boat to get us. If we are not back, you will take that boat and get out of here. Understood?" After everyone is settled, Tessai will go back inside to help Lefty retrieve whatever loot can be used by the prisoners to equip and defend themselves. Tessai will use Detect Magic on anything they find (not sure if we have done it before or not). She also wants to ask him to take a peek at that door to the south of the temple we never checked, just in case - I put a red circle around it in the map. And she wants to talk privately to her companions: "I would like us to keep up the pressure on these foul defilers. If we give them a chance to regroup and dig in, we may never be able to get them out, or they may come back and attack us while we rest. So I would like to explore further today into their temple" - the Paladin explained - "Also because time is of the essence to the survival of the child. But, we have already fought hard today and could also benefit from a rest. What do you all think?" ![]()
![]() ”We need to get these people out of here, but as crazy it may sound, it is possible they are actually safer inside… If we leave them outside, and come back down, they will be exposed” - Tessai comments to her companions, then turns to the prisoners - ”We need to find the little girl, so we need to continue on… We can leave the door open for you, and you can try leaving on your own - but navigating the wilds on your own will definitely be risky. We can also grab the weapons and armor from those we have already defeated - some of you could equip yourselves, and hold ground here while we explore the rest of the complex” - she pauses, not sure if half of them even understand her. ”I know none of the options are good, but they are what we have. Do any of you feel strong enough to fight?” - the paladin added, while removing her backpack - ”Also I am sure you must be thirsty and hungry - here, take this” - she offered them her food and water, sparing for herself only enough for two days, if possible. ![]()
![]() Hi Ting - you ask, and I roll ;) "Of course Ting" - Tessai nods, grabbing the wand and healing herself and her companion - "And thank you" - and then returning the item. Tessai is a Paladin after all ;) "I will catch up with you as soon as possible" ![]()
![]() Tessai snarls away the pain of the magical storm, an holy silvery glow enveloping and healing her wounds. Then she attacks the demon - ”Down!” Swift Lay on Hands: 2d6 + 1d6 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 5 ⇒ (2, 1) + (6) + 2 + 2 + 2 + 5 = 20 Bardiche +1: 1d20 + 10 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 10 + 1 = 20

I need to know when the others are prepared to follow’ - she replied. The answer to this (Due to message and whatnot ;)) ![]()
![]() I think it is possible they were not aware of our presence. That is what we are agreeing on disagreeing. And based on that assumption, I think it was a mistake to attack the ogre. I am not sure when/why we abandoned what we were doing at the time (getting the prisoners out of there), to simply engage in a fight which completely stalled our actions, and split the group. I dislike too much OOC talk as it can get out of hand, so I prefer to go with Gameplay posts whenever possible. And since we are in a dungeon, trying to remain unnoticed, it makes sense to use the Message spell. In any case, it is irrelevant now. Game on! ![]()
![]() I guess we can agree to disagree then. We had no alternative but to give them time, because the group was stretched all over the corridor. Also Tessai's concern is that leaving now will allow them time to regroup and entrench. While the little girl is still in there. I am just pondering if she would consider a parley or not. ![]()
![]() Why would we rush in, if they hadn't yet noticed us at all? For Tessai, the first order of business was to free those prisoners we found before being detected. If we just rush and die, what use are us to those people who are being held captive? For me the error of engaging the ogre was the risk of raising an alarm, which it did. Now they are ready for us. And we have gained absolutely nothing from this exchange, quite the contrary actually. If I was playing any other character than a Paladin, I would not go in that room - I would grab the prisoners and get the hell out of here to come back the next day. But Tessai will do the paladin thing to do, and probably bite the bullet because of it. ![]()
![]() 'We have now forfeited the element of surprise, and they are encroaching against us' - Tessai whispered to Lothorian via the messaging spell - 'Are you able to use magic and see how they are placed around the room?' DMofGraves, I assume the prisoners are hiding out in the cells, right? Did any of them actually escape upstairs? ![]()
![]() Tessai has Darkvision ;) Stepping forward, the Paladin unleashes two attacks on the zombie. Attacking Green. Bardiche +1 Attack: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30

![]() Since Tessai has a reach weapon and Dark Vision, I believe she would be entitled an AoO? As she notices the creature shuffling toward her, Tessai attacks! Bardiche +1 AoO: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19
Then she steps back, swinging again with preternatural speed. Bardiche +1 Attack: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25
