Taz's white eyes narrow dangerously as he considers the hooded volunteer from the shadows. The Order of the Jet Star? Of what madness does this one speak? Sense motive: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20 His gaze takes in the others as they maintain their silence as well. He can't help but chuckle to himself, which sounds more like a sickly cough than any form of laughter you've heard, A talkative bunch. At least my head will not ache with their constant yammering on the roads ahead.

20/20 vision and ready for some action. Here's hoping our GM hasn't fallen into the void of no return that so many GMs on these boards seem to stumble into. And we still have yet to address the issue of who's actually leading our merry band of deviants.

@Sanguinus_Draconis: Roger that, thanks for the update. Just a heads up: I am having LASIK surgery on Wednesday and, depending on the recovery time, I may be absent from the boards for a day or two until my eyes are healed.

Enjoy Kolaiah! My wife and I did a cruise for our honeymoon and it wasn't for me. Too much time at sea, although it was cool to see so many places in such a short amount of time. We were so worn out from doing excursions all day at shore that when we got back on board the ship we passed out while the rest of the boat partied, haha. Have we come to an impass due to the issue of who is to step up as leader, or are we delaying until some of our players return? Or is our illustrious GM still hungover from Thursday's party? Haha.

A valid excuse. Enjoy yourself! I, on the other hand, will be finally sinking my teeth into Pillars of Eternity. Probably my most anticipated game in... Ever? Haha. Can't wait!

GM Overseer of Azathyr wrote: Lady Satha's eyes narrow as she responds to Tazennin, "Reward? Yes, that is quite appropriate, I suppose. Tell you what, if you succeed you may remain my subject and NOT be fed into the mushroom slurry pits and be made into food for our Kobold slaves. My offer is most generous to you, yes? If you do exceptionally well, I might even give you your very own Svirfneblin slave to change your chamberpot!" She lets out a light chuckle, a smile drawn across her lips like a wicked dagger. "But of course, my liege." Tazennin replies, his words dripping with sarcasm. He drops into an elaborate mocking bow, and proceeds to fade back into the shadows. Not a tear will be shed when your lifeblood pools around your throne as your heart ceases to beat. Of that, I am quite certain. Once again, his hand itched for the release of his bowstring. He smiled to himself as he entertained thoughts of spitting her heart on one of his arrows and feeding that to the kobold slaves.

Taz considers her words carefully, weighing the pros and cons. Uninterested in talk of tactics and numbers, Tazennin gets right to the point that has him most intrigued, the reward, of course, "Is there a reward involved in all this?" he says slyly, "Perhaps if we do this for you and everything goes to your liking, I can can forgo my portion of the gold and be counted among the ranks of your spies? Surely, you could use a man of my exceptional... talents." He purrs that last bit, but it comes out as more of a sickly sweet croon. Diplomacy: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (8) - 1 = 7 Yep, about what I expected. Her rebuttal should be a treat, hah. I toyed with playing out this proposal after our meeting, one-on-one, or over PM, but then I figured putting it out there for all to see/hear would be much more entertaining! I'll begin working on a backup character...

Tazennin sighs inwardly to himself, but takes care in ensuring his demeanor does not betray his emotions, Another bunch of dark elves too caught up in The Game to be of any use. All the shady dealings and backroom machinations in the underworld won't save you from an arrow through the heart... He considers Faeryl, not hiding the fact that he was looking her up and down with a hungry eye, A lady of the night, eh? I wonder how much she charges? He chuckles, an odd sound - something like ancient parchment crumbling - at Kolaiah's riff on the bugbear, At least this one shows promise to be somewhat interesting. To Hurkkagg, "Ah, how unfortunate for him. I took mine from a surface elf," He gestures to his own bow, resplendent with it's hideous carvings, his own work, of course, "before piercing her heart with her own dagger. A pity, that." He says with a tilt to his head and a slight smile, his voice still raspy and apt to make one's skin crawl. His eyes slide down to the necklace of tongues, Lovely accouterments. "Let's be on with it, then." He says as he slinks after Akor into the chamber room, eyes constantly scanning their immediate surroundings, taking in every detail and assessing potential threats. His right hand constantly opened and closed, as if he were searching for an excuse to draw his bowstring taught and loose an arrow at the first sign of danger. Editing in a response to Hurk, since he posted while I was typing up mine.

A short elf emerges from the shadows, draped in a midnight velvet cloak over supple and finely worked black leather armor. A very large intricately carved bow is slung over one shoulder, a long, curved single-edged sword sheated over the other. A quiver of black fletched arrows hangs at his left hip, flanked by a leather belt pouch. Soft knee-high boots dampen his steps and if he hadn't spoken, you doubt you would've noticed him standing there. "Tazennin is my name. I admit my knowledge of the baroness is sparse, what do we know of her?" He scans the others summoned to the throne room, paying particular attention to the hulking bugbear, and, more importantly, the large bow he carried. "That is quite a weapon you have there. Might I ask where you acquired it? I am interested in such things." His soft voice creeps out from under his black cowl like a greasy layer of oil polluting a pool's surface.

Yes, Ctrl-A and Ctrl-C. Also sound advice. I'm sorry you lost do much work, I know how frustrating that can be. Enjoy your Razor Coast game. I already play in one myself, and we finally just had our first combat, haha. It is a very RP heavy game.

Should we be discussing background collaboration at this point? I know my background left House Sathys under attack and (possibly) on the verge of collapse. Faeryl, I realize you wrote Ruul into your story, I'm sad he didn't make it, but what were you thinking as far as his ultimate fate? Was he killed en route to Vothys? Or maybe he's still with us, lurking in the background. Thoughts? Just trying to get the ball rolling a bit here. @Xodar:Congrats! My son is the best thing that has ever happened to me, so I'm sure it is an exciting moment for you. Try to take in as much as you can, because it will most likely be a blur (which I'm sure you already know, having had two others).

Dotting in as fullly complete and ready to go. This does seem like a very interesting group. I hope to be an excellent scout and assassin for you all, as long as the pay is good, of course. Hurkkaag, I see you also use a CLB. That should make for some very interesting roleplay. My weapons are a huge part of my background, feel free to read it if you want to know more. I plan on reading all of yours in the next few days. Can't wait!
Tazennin's crunch is complete and ready for your perusal. Fluff is still very much in the works. Taz is a houseless 'dobluth', formerly of House Sathys, now a loner of sorts, who wants to incorporate the use of elven weapons (composite longbow and elven curve blade) into drow society. He believes the true path to power is through amassing a large amount of wealth. Therefore, he functions much like a ninja, working for the highest bidder. I look forward to your attempts at swaying him to your cause after our party is finalized. :)
I'm saddened to see that no one has mentioned Dark Sun. That was my all-time favorite setting and I was absolutely beside myself when I got into a DS campaign on these boards. It has been great fun so far! GM: I was hoping to have the first draft of my character submitted tonight for you to peruse, but, unfortunately, I am currently bed-ridden with some sort of stomach thing. I'll try to finish it up tomorrow, but it might not be until the weekend.
Tirion Jörðhár wrote: Yes, I know that drow not common in most campaigns, but for some reason I get the feeling that a drow would be perfect or this one. I'm having a hard time telling if this is sarcasm or not. Either way, I love inspired blades and if I wasn't already playing a swashbuckler in another game, that's what I would've rolled for this one. I look forward to seeing your character.
GM: After doing some work in Hero Lab, it appears that the baseline giant gecko is only of small size and the riding gecko is only medium, so I believe I will need to choose a new mount unless there is a large version. Upon checking d20pfsrd I see this text listed under the riding gecko entry:
d20pfsrd wrote: Larger than even what is commonly referred to as a giant gecko, these mammoth lizards have been specifically bred to be used as mounts for the drow. Prized for their ability to run along cave ceilings and sheer walls, these creatures require exotic saddles to ride. Use the statistics for a giant gecko with the giant template. So I'm not quite sure what is going on with Hero Lab. I will do some more research.
I've a couple questions for you GM: Is there a word in this setting for a house-less drow other than exile, outcast, loner, etc.? I thought there was one in the Drizzt books, but I couldn't find anything after a quick google search. Details:
By all intents and purposes Tazennin has no affiliation with a house, having been cast out of House Sathys. He is primarily driven by his interest in perfecting the art of killing with the bow and I imagine he would be interested in pulling in more drow to begin using the composite longbow favored by the hated surface elves, possibly even going as far as creating a unit of elite drow soldiers trained in mounted archery. Tazennin cares not for what is or isn't traditionally "drow", i.e. the fact that they prefer to use the hand crossbow over other bows, he simply believes that the CLB is more devastating in combat, and therefore is the superior option. I also really like the idea that while he happens to use a wooden bow, the fact that wood is scarce in the darklands drives him to seek out and perfect how to best construct bows using "grey wood". I am putting ranks into craft (bows) to reflect this. I imagine if the party has an alchemist, this would be something they could collaborate their efforts on. Secondly, with the large gecko's ability to walk on walls/ceilings, will you be applying any negative modifiers to my actions if I am mounted hanging sideways or upside down? Mounts:
While I do very much like the giant gecko as a mount, you mentioned earlier in the thread that you would compile a list of potential darklands mounts. Would you mind posting that or PMing me? I'm just curious as to what my options are. Lastly, is there a darklands gazetteer provided in the books that you could post for us? I'm sure we'd all love to have more information about the immediate environs we'll be playing in, but if you are deliberately leaving the setting ambiguous and giving us free reign to develop our own stories and locations that's fine too, I just thought I would ask. I'm sure I'll have more questions, but for now that is all. Edit: Ah, now I remember the other thing I wanted to ask. Would it make sense for our characters to be outfitted with gear for travel? I.e. bedrolls, backpacks, mess kits, etc.? I'd rather not spend the time/gold on outfitting my character with all of this if it wouldn't make sense with how the campaign starts. Thanks! Edit #2: They just keep flowing, apparently. I was wondering if we could take an extra campaign trait in place of one of our regular traits? I wanted to take the improved darkvision (makes sense for a CLB user) as well as the exile's stolen treasure (slightly reflavored to reflect the acquisition of my elven composite longbow).
@Phylotus: I hadn't read your background, but yes, there are quite a few similarities in Salazar's and Tazennin's story. Tazennin:
Tazennin was in a scouting party doing some reconnaissance in the jungles below the Earth's Wound when they encountered a tribe of surface elves. He was intrigued by their devastating use of the composite longbow so he took one off of a corpse and began practicing with it. He was found out and subsequently banished, just before his house fell into ruin due to the severe losses they had suffered at the hands of the surface elves. Obviously, that is the quick and dirty version. All of that is subject to change, as well. That was just my initial idea.
After much deliberation I have decided on a NE Drow Luring Cavalier with a giant gecko mount focusing on Order of the Bow. We just got slammed at work, so hopefully I'll have something for you to peruse in the next few days. Edit: Final adjusted stats after taking the Silent Killer bonus package are looking something like: Str 16 = 10 + 2 + 4
Edit #2: I am curious as to how you will deal with stealth rolls while mounted. Would you require rolls from the mount, the rider, both? If you require my character to roll, then I will take a trait to make stealth a class skill. |
