Male Sylph Ninja 1
Examines the the corpses of the bird men. Looking for items that maybe of use, or emblems of identity. Continuing to listen to the conversation concerning the one time layout of the palace. If finding any weapons or anything else of value setting it carefully aside, away from the bodies. I wonder what we do here. Mai Seori seems to wish to search this place. I wonder if these are yamabushi, or agents of the yamabushi, or just something that needed to be killed. He would give the barest of shrugs to his internal meanderings, as he continues to examine. Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21 a roll if needed, otherwise ignore :)

Hi, Sunday and Monday are always going to be my worst posting days. Sunday Family time, Monday is work work work till its done day. Scrolling back and re reading, cuz, I admit to being just a lil' lostered. Are we in the Front Gate area? Or the Throne room area? Or the open air area between? Just for my personal bearings, though. I'll post in a bit after dinner. Thanks!

Taliv grasps the offered hand with an honest smile. Hoisting his surprisingly light frame to a standing position. That was unexpected, I could have easily gotten up myself, but, that was nice of Seori to help one of my sort. I wonder why she did so, one of her station helping... The many bruising lessons of Master Urashida concerning unexpected niceties exploded through his thoughts. Rewards that turned into punishments, traps set with baits of kindness, every action has hidden multiple purposes. Squelching the momentary joy of friendly contact, Taliv's carriage returns to the proper servile facade. However his eyes continue to gaze upon the corpses, sometimes flashing glances to the torn clothing of the others. I should be more careful. I need to be more aware. Tests come in all forms. I know this. "I am most thankful for your assistance. " More at ease, in his familiar paranoia, his eyes take in the ruins, the hunter, Seori, the giant, and the poor musician. He would humbly walk and pick up his hat, offering each a quick head bob of respect, before returning to stand where he was lifted. Questions race through his thoughts. Who is this fellow? Where are the others? That giant is too close. Why the dead bird things? Did the giant finally lose control? Teikoku palace? This? Remember, do not ask questions. Watch. Study. Learn. ...why would she offer to help me up? He would bob his head respectfully again to Seori.

With a groan of pain and surprise, Taliv lands on the floor. Reacting quickly to the impact, he would roll backwards facing the others, scooting quickly backwards to place his back against a solid structure. "Wha?!...Who?!...Whuh?!..." His hair tossed by sudden breeze. his face full of questions, he glances quickly at the others. His thoughts at the moment mirroring his words. What happened? Who are these folk? Wait! That is the Oni, and the woman is Mai Seori. So...By Asmodious' Gate, what is going on? I remember a queue of others, and it being so pleasant. And then the monkey man arriving behind me, calling me a fool and dragging me quickly away... And now, I am here. Where ever here is.. The panic begins to drain from his features, to be replaced by wary assessment, as he begins to take more note of his surroundings. Did Seori say something? oh. She asked if it were me. I am pretty sure I am me. Best not think on that too much. In fact, best answer quickly before getting punished. With a barely ascertained nod of affirmation he would respond quietly. "Yes. I am me. Did everyone have the same experience? I do not think I wish to enter doors under pools of water anymore."

Nice to meetchya. You've got more experience in the thread than me, and I'm dead. Maybe? "Taliv!? You died back there?" interjects any PC. "Nope, I was talking with the man behind the curtain over there," asserts Taliv pointing to a poorly concealed man behind the curtain. "IGNORE ME!"shouts the man behind the curtain.

Hi everyone. Turned out to be more than a power supply issue, and hit at a time when I had to um "re organize" my employment. It was several months before I could have a new computer built, as funds were required for more essential matters. Posting on the forums, unfortunately, was near the bottom of my concerns. I apologize profusely. I am glad the game continued so long. Sorry to have missed out on the fun, but life was steamrolling ahead unexpectedly. I still appreciate having been invited. Thank you, Greg

Soldiers of the Regent? Coming here? If they wanted the harvest, they are too late. Mayhap the coin and trade from the harvest? Taliv pursed his lips in furious thought. But, why would Master Samuru wish for us to know this? No good will come of us being informed. There must be something more. With trepidation, Taliv quietly waits for the Masters to continue.

Upon entering the sanctum, Taliv's eyes sparkle with interest. This was his first time within these walls. A smile slowly forms as he gazes about. His raw delighted appraisal of the open roof easily read upon his features. As Master Shinmei gives the most formal of bows to Master Samuru, Taliv's smile begins to turn to an adolescent sneer.
Mortification sweeps across Taliv's face. An unsuspected breeze begins to gust through his clothes while Taliv's hair dances upon it. But, it would not last. With the grace of a piglet tossed into a mountain stream, Taliv's forehead met the wooden floor with a soft impact of greeting easily muffled by the sounds of his palms making their own introduction to the same. Taliv attempts to match Master Shinmei's exact posture. Lessons Taliv! I should have been more aware. Fool. Fool. More the Fool! Maybe Master Shinmei did not notice. Oh yes, Taliv. And maybe Master Urashida has made you a special dessert for being such a nice boy. Just listen and learn, no distractions! This must be really important. I hope I did not land too near that giant. Worriedly, Taliv chews at his lower lip.

Responding with assent to Tampalasan, Taliv falls into step, well behind the giant. He pauses momentarily, glancing about quizzically. Shrugging, he places the no longer wanted roller under the table before hastily returning to his place. I will remember to get that later. Nodding to himself.

Makiko wrote: And a fine official first post it was, too. I especially liked, "First Among Duty and Innocence." lol I have always been a fan of Keith Laumer's Retief series. The satirical adventures of diplomats in the far future. They all endeavored to master the many regulation vocal intonations and facial positions. (ex: pleasantly disgusted sneer of disapproval to a junior v32(c) ) I will try not to over do it. But, I see many of his social skills as learned and practiced behaviors. :P Hopefully, it was not TOO over the top. And only just cresting over the top. Greg

Quietly making his way back to the floor, Taliv grabs at a random bamboo roller. It had been suggested he place the newly crafted rollers two to a writing desk and removing the worst rollers to be burned. This was to be accomplished before sweeping. But as he had only just grabbed the broom before noticing the two Go players, he had not really done anything out of order. Then again, he had not done any work at all, as of yet. What could this be about? I do not think I have done anything to warrant punishment from Master Samuru. Well, best to look as if I had been doing work. Tampalasan will know better, of course. But, as long as I eventually get the work done, he seems nice enough. Respectfully approaching the players at the game board, Taliv lightly holds the bamboo roller. He would offer each person a quick bow of the head, finishing with Tampalasan. "Many pardons, Honored Tampalasan, what was I to do with the rollers that are still smooth and will not tear the scrolls? " Taliv then would offer the smile he called First Among Duty and Innocence. He practiced this one often. Despite anxiety, it should be perfect. bluff 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15

Does not take non-sense from anyone and has been known to use a spoon like a weapon, reining down blows to the head and shoulders of anybody stupid enough to interfer with the kitchen. I saw as male, but honestly was written vaguely so did not matter. Greg

@DundjinnMasta- Late in the game question, but will you be using an xp track, or just telling us when it is appropriate for us to level for the story? My preference is just telling us, but I do use both methods at table games. But, you have already seen my math skills...just sayin'. :P Greg.
Male Sylph Ninja 1
@ DundjinnMasta:
I evidently cannot do simple math or read a skill list.
Adjusted the following character sheet skills. Acrobatics from 5 to 7
Knowledge Local from 5 to 6
Perception from 6 to 5
Survival from 6 to 2
Survival was REALLY embarassing, on my notes I had it as a class skill and an att bonus of 2 from an earlier concept. I hope that is the last of the mistakes, but feel free to let me know if you encounter others. Greg

Indeed, I suspect Taliv is very intimidated by Mamoru as well. This fellow reads as "DANGER: Do not antagonize". And, he would be only slightly less intimidated by the driven Yumi. Not that she may have shared her goals, but that it is obvious she has a driving goal and is resolute in her training. Mai Seori is a curiosity. She spends hours painting words. Followed by sword training. Just ....odd. Tampalasan, always seems to make time for other folk to play his pebble game. He also seems to be able to discourse on any subject. Taliv would fnd reasons for his chores to keep him near to um...just happen to overhear Tampalasan in conversations. Always something new to learn. However, he really does not like the goat.
EDIT for Tampalasan:
Not that Taliv is picking on the familiar, it is in his backstory. He and animals do not get along. Personally, the player loves the idea of a goat! Makiko seems to be the easiest to approach. Few words and has never cuffed him. As Taliv also enjoys practicing his skills afterhours, night hunting provides a perfect opportunity. And perhaps she has offered a quiet word of advice before, or a nod in passing as she would venture on her own. These are initial impressions, as time has come along, I am certain we have become familiar with habits, and as Yumi stated, spoken with each other many times over the years. Perhaps, there were events that each of us had spent some time together. Taliv would be respectful to everyone in past encounters though his lack of natural discipline would be quite apparent. Just some thoughts while we wait. :) Greg

a I kind of envision that when Taliv is NOT helping Master Shinmei, that Master Urashida has him running kitchen errands. So um, if Tampalasan ever gets hungry or um..he steps in the kitchen to see Taliv scrubbing the floor. Though I could see Master Shinmei having Taliv go to the librarian to retrieve a scroll or find a reference of some sort. Taliv has never shown any affection towards the goat. :P Greg

@Mai Seori- Well, not that you have just put a something message in the gameplay, they system will let you know if there are new messages there AND you get that nifty dark circle next to the thread. Dotting is just a way to make a thread easier to spot and let one know there is new stuff to read. @Mai Seori, Yumi Ken, Mamoru Onitora- IF we end up knowing of each other before gameplay starts, what is the Family name vs Given name? I actually tried to get a friend of mine from one of my Pen and Paper games to do a samsaran reincarnated oracle(ancestor) application for this. He has been looking for an opportunity to play one for some time. But, he just did not want to try the play by post experience. *shrugs* As for the no "healer" type, I agree that it adds to the down and dirty nature of E6. And if anyone asks, well, um...Taliv will just make up some other story and try to bluff his way past it.
This character profile is my submission. This is the first submission to a PBP I have done. This campaign really intrigues me. I want in. But please know, I am totally inexperienced when it comes to play by post. I have read much of a rules light pbp thread and started a submission, but my hours of availability were completely opposite. Also, I noticed some players I enjoyed reading had disappeared. Daynen's submission was inspiration to take the plunge. I really liked his Mai Seori. Though, I do admit I cannot help but sing the name to the tune of My Sharona when I read it. :P My available hours are 7pm-midnight EST (gmt-5)Friday-Saturday. Sundays are usually catch as catch can with me, between visiting parents, pen and paper games, and household duties. The week of Christmas and New Years may be hard to post daily. Family and friends first. :P Gaming life a close second. I know I made some risky choices with this character submission. But, I think he has some depth, potential for lots of character growth, potential for some dissonance and harmony within a party, and I think fun to play. I also know that I changed from third person to first person narrative in "Growing up a fool at best." part of the background. I originally wanted to do everything in first person to give a sense of personality. However, as he was a child in "How did a xijin get here anyway?"In first person, it became hard to read and truthfully a giant wall of text. Not that it isn't such now :P But trust me on this, it is SOOOO much easier to read now. I kept "Growing up a fool at best" first person to keep some awareness of his personality now. Taliv seems a direct path towards Spymaster. Only if his character changes significantly would he be going assassin. I hope it stays Spymaster. :P If accepted *crosses fingers*, I will add bits about each of the other accepted folk and Taliv's views of them. In closing, I really would like to play this game. It seems like some really great ideas are going to be used. Based on your initial posts, I think our gaming styles are very compatible. Greg |
