"Hmph. Grenseldek again." Songan says in an annoyed tone, showing the parchment to the others. "It seems this 'Mika' was the one who was put up to the job and she didn't like it, but felt it her duty to carry it out." the catfolk comments, scratching his temple with a claw while he searches his memory for the name "Achaekek." "I don't think the assault was magical in nature. I think it was a good old-fashioned bomb. This bag that was dropped in the hallway has a length of cord in it...to my eye it looks similar to the fuse cords those bombing orcs used during the assault on Trunau."

Blinking curiously at the items in the satchel that was left behind, Songan brings them back to the others to let everyone have a look, at which point he looks more closely at the handbill and the rolled up parchment.

Songan seems deeply frustrated by how easily the group was infiltrated; it could've been much worse than three dead, as tragic as that was in and of itself. Before he tries to give any theories on what happened, though, he looks to the others. "I'm going to go check that bag that she dropped. Seems likely there wasn't anything of any immediate danger in it at this point." he says, heading out into the hallway to retrieve the pack and bring it back to the others.

Songan, having heard Maslyn's whisper, approaches the pair, adding his thoughts to the conversation in a whisper as well. "A rope trick? What is sight outside of it like? If a person is in that space, can they see and hear out of it as well as if they were out here with us?"

Having heard the insistence from the guards that no one had gone that way, Songan diverts from his original course; if the assailant was still in the building, given the damage that they were able to do already, it was too dangerous to separate and go completely alone, so he instead he follows Delia's course and ends up joining she and Maslyn.

Yeah, my connection picked a really fine time to start blinking in and out on me...c'est la vie! Despite being caught completely off-guard by the sudden conflagration appearing in the midst of the group, Songan still manages to avoid the brunt of the fire's bite...a thankful thing, since even the edges of it pain him badly! He zeroes quickly in on the source of the trouble, though not as quickly as apparently some members of the party do, and turns his eyes to the acolyte. A spell jumped to mind that would prevent them from fleeing, at least as easily...one that he had hesitated to learn, but he was now glad of the time the took learning it. Weaving the magics in his speech, he settled his target on the blonde acolyte, hoping that her constitution was no stronger than the average spellcaster as his Blindness spell struck her. Cast Blindness against the acolyte on my action first full-round. DC 15 Fort save or she is rendered blind, then move to close as much with the blonde as Songan can.

Songan willingly hands the heirloom to Maslyn, hoping he might have at least a bit more insight than others have offered or that he, himself, has gleaned over the years. Looking to Delia, he smiles genuinely, though the expression reminiscent of a cat's look of smug satisfaction. "I would certainly welcome the help! I know I haven't spoken much about where I come from, but my life in Trunau has mostly been lived on the quiet side...until I happened to be chosen for Ruby's hopeknife ceremony. Since then things have happened so quickly that I haven't thought much explaining what ultimately brought me here!" -Posted with Wayfinder

He seems to hesitate a moment, then reaches into his tunic and pulls out a braided cord, at the end of which is a small compass, worn and battered with age. "This is the only clue I have. I have never been without it, near as I can recall. The needle is bent, but it still functions. There is an inscription on the inside cover, but no one I've ever shown it to has been able to tell me what language it is...or if it's a language at all. I don't think it's an ordinary compass, though...I would swear that I've sometimes seen it glowing faintly, on a particularly dark night, and sometimes the needle will suddenly point in a direction that is definitely not north. It was actually one of those times when I found Trunau. I've wondered often if it somehow it intentionally led me here." -Posted with Wayfinder

Songan's ears flatten against his skull, as if suddenly something has come to his mind that leaves him feeling rather embarrassed. "Oh! Did I not tell everyone? If I forgot, I'm sorry! Guess I got so excited after taking down Skreed that it could've slipped my mind completely. Yes, it's most definitely Agrimmosh. I've seen sketches of it in some of the books I've read on some of the various artifacts lost to history. It looks like a blacksmith's hammer made of stone, but see the symbol etched onto the side of it? That's Minderhal's holy symbol." "See, according to the stone giants native to the Mindspin range, the giant god Minderhal used his hammer Agrimmosh to forge the first giants. They were not perfect, though, so Minderhal kept creating new kinds of giants until he finally created the 'perfect' giants, the stones. Satisfied that he'd done as good as could be done, he used Agrimmosh to destroy the anvil he'd created all the giant-kind on. That's where it got the title 'Hammer of Unmaking' from." "According to legend, it will re-size itself to match the size of its wielder and that it can, periodically, allow the person wielding it to cast a spell of enlargement in himself. Not only that, but if an enemy is struck a particularly grievous blow with it, it will cause that enemy to shrink. Hearsay abounds that it can do more, but most of the tales require that it be struck against Minderhal's Forge in the Cathedral of Minderhal." "I suppose it would make perfect sense that we found it where we did...according to legend, the last place it was seen used in battle was on Bloodmarch Hill, where the orc Chieftain Uskroth used it against the people that would become the first settlers of Trunau. It was said that Uskroth's favorite weapon was a stone warhammer named Agrimmosh...and it seems unlikely that there would be two of them."

Songan takes particular not of the ioun torch circling the new member of the party, a mirror of the newly-purchased one that circles his own head. At hearing of the man's background, though, Songan's ears immediately swivel forward. After the others have made their introductions, the catfolk steps forward, his tawny tail lashing back and forth behind him. "A Pathfinder! It is a definite honor to meet you! I have always been an admirer of the Society but you are the first of their ranks I have ever met! When we have a spare moment, I would very much like to show you something...an heirloom, I suppose you might call it. My earliest memories are of being a vagabond kit scrounging to survive, but I have always had it with me." "That aside, I am certain having you in our travels will be a great boon to us in our travels and I hope that you would be willing to talk with me about your travels and experiences!" he adds. His voice, somewhat throaty, low baritone, and reminiscent of a fine sandpaper, hits a slightly higher octave, betraying just how excited he is. Suddenly, a thought occurs to him, and his eyes widen in realization. "Oh! Oh, I'm Songan, by the way! Songan Eyata! I fancy myself something of an amateur archaeologist." he states with pride. -Posted with Wayfinder

I'm looking over our applicants to see where my preferences lie. Man, it didn't take long for people to jump on that. I guess Giantslayer is still pretty popular. Regarding equipment, GM Darkblade, are we allowed to keep rolling for stuff until we don't have the funds for it any more? For example, since I didn't get the Efficient Quiver, can I turn around and try now for a Handy Haversack?

Oh! Well, crap. I totally misunderstood the intention of your instructions then. I'm...not entirely sure what the best way to correct the error would be, save from simply mulligan'ing the roll. How do you want me to proceed, Darkblade? Also, would you allow rolls for slight variations on the items? Songan is certain to thank Silvermane for his information on the Vault of Thorns; any help that can be offered is certain to be a boon to the group. When the group is offered the vault's key, Songan suggests that Delia handle its care; her newly-purchased haversack would ensure that it wasn't damaged in transport or in any fighting that took place between now and then. Songan's attitude toward the council is decidedly less haughty and he listens quietly to their request for their assistance in putting a final end to the threat Trunau faces. "I second Delia's assent. I have not been a resident of Trunau for for long, and though I do not even have a house here, I have come to regard it as the only place I have ever known that I could call home. We complete this mission and ensure that Trunau remains a place that will continue to be a light in the dark."

Sounds fair to me. So I take it that I'm free to go ahead and modify Songan's herolab to reflect the level bump and update the gear. Do you want us to have 8,000 overall or add 8,000 to our current totals? I'm assuming the former, but I want to be sure. While Songan knows what the hammer is, he's not at all a hammer wielder; either Dundin or Adir would be good recipients for it, I'd think. What do y'all think about the extra ability point for Songan? I'm thinking either DEX or INT; DEX just because of its overall importance, but that would mean delaying the modifier increase to level 8, while putting it in INT would give me an immediate modifier bump.

I wouldn't mind getting a general status update myself if that's alright. Particularly how the two wolves seem to be faring. I know it isn't a specific target as you normally like, Darkblade, but I hope it's alright just the same. The searing pain of the fire causes a wailing screech to boil forth from Songan, fur and flesh badly burned in the attack. Still...his friends are in trouble by another foe that was likely a greater physical threat. The catfolk ensures he is close enough to the wolves to take advantage of his greater skill at close range, but far enough away that another attack like that will not expose his allies to fire-splash, turns his bow against the wolf that seems to be the midst injured of the pair, praying that the weapon finds its mark.
