" Knowledge History DC20: Indeed, Viperwall is a keep built on the eastern shores of Ember Lake. You saw its many spires from the top of the mountain. Rumor has it that the castle was built sometime in the mid-fifth millennium AR by serpentfolk who traveled up from Sekamina, the Middle Realm of the Darklands, through the Mobhad Leigh (a Shoanti term for the "steps into hell." ) in order to create a surface outpost for their race. A connection to the Darklands in or near Viperwall is suspected. The party may have just found this connection point. ![]()
![]() Back to the Present Flanked by six Serpentfolk warriors to each side, two on each side with bows, two on each side wielding long knives, and and two shielded warriors on each side with wicked looking maces. The twelve flank three more robed Serpentfolk, one with a serpent-like staff, one without anything in its hands, and finally one in the middle, a two-headed Serpentfolk with green robes. The two-headed Serpentfolk moves forward, the others are clearly at the ready, the left head begins to talk in an odd common, "Weeze been waaching you." The right head continues, "Weeze seeze you ssslaze zeez Drag...gon." Then back to the left head, "Itssiz taken our shrinezeez." Then the right, "Youzeez haseez killzeez the Drag...gon." ![]() The party skins the Dragon. Salts it as best as possible, gathers the loot, then heads down the mountain back to the horses. They then look for a place to camp that will be good for the horses. They will easily find a spot near a fresh stream. There is an eerie calm overnight. Though there was no encounters the silence was deafening. Day Eighty-Nine As the party loads the horses, a group of over a dozen Serpentfolk approach the party. What do you do? ![]()
![]() Aura of Fire: 1d6 ⇒ 5 Kaos and Ulfgard have their fire protection each reduced by 5 points. Ulfgard @ 54; Kaos @ 103 The Red Dragon speaks in the Common Tongue, "Hmmm. Humans and Dwarves. Only the right claw and the Red Dragon's tail slap strikes into Kaos with enough force to pass through the Dragon Disciples protections. Kaos takes 30 points of damage. ![]()
![]() Suddenly, flying up from below the level of the spire, you see a Red Dragon. It is as if it has a sixth sense for anything that gets too close to its horde. But reality is that it heard you coming up the steps and flew off below floor level. Round One The red dragon flies up about ten feet above the level of the floor of the spire. Its about thirty feet away from Haskyll and Ulfgard and launches a wave of fire at the Cleric and Ranger. Breath Weapon: 6d10 ⇒ (8, 10, 10, 10, 4, 7) = 49 DC19 Reflex Save for Half Damage. (24 pts.) Red Dragon 21 (AC? ?/?)
There is a different map for this. Actually it is a modification of the Cathedral of Minderhal map with the spire level portion added as an overlay. The Minderhal Central Spire map did not provide a view of the wider area around the spire. This will allow us room to fly around, if necessary. Everyone is up! ![]()
![]() Round Two Leira moves forward and creates a magic pit under the two big cats, including the one holding Ragnir. The big cats leap out of the way of the pits, but Ragnir falls in taking a scrape on the way down. Falling Damage to Ragnir: 2d6 ⇒ (1, 1) = 2 I forgot to update the tally section that the Ettin was already dead. With the Hill Giant being easily handled, I will direct Anga's Magic Missile at one of the big cats. Anga casts a Magic Missile at the first big cat. The first big cat roars after being struck, but then sets its sights on the Half-Orc. It carefully but swiftly moves around the pit then sinks its teeth into Droja. Big Cat 1 bite: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (15) + 18 = 332d6 + 8 ⇒ (1, 3) + 8 = 12 The second big cat sees Leira. It pounces on the Rogue Arcanist tearing into to her with a bite and a pair of wicked claws. The big cat grabs a hold of Leira. Big Cat 2 bite: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (14) + 18 = 322d6 + 8 ⇒ (6, 3) + 8 = 17
Leira takes a massive 43 points of damage. Note: The first big cat was unable to charge and could not use its pounce ability. The second big cat had a clear path to Leira and could use its pounce ability. Kaos swishes then swashes striking the Hill Giant three times. Haskyll asks for and receives a spiritual waraxe that appears behind the first big cat. It cuts into the feline. Ulfgard finishes off the Hill Giant. It lies dead at the top of the right section of the wall. Droja yells out that, "We could use some help here!" The Giant Wasp flies quickly to engage the second big cat. Droja takes a step toward the pit, then launches a wave of terror in the general direction of the big cats. It was close, but Droja could shape the cone to effect both big cats, but not Leira or the Giant Wasp with a Fear spell. Big Cat 1 Will Save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
The first Big Cat flees from Droja heading south away from the party and ignoring the mule. The second Big Cat is shaken. It releases its hold on Leira. Droja's Reflex Save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14 Droja stumbles then falls into the pit. She looks at Ragnir, "Well! Isn't this a fine mess we have gotten ourselves into." Falling Damage to Droja: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 2) = 4 The Hill Giant dies poorly. Realizing that trying to climb out of the pit would be futile, Ragnir steps back and he too asks for and receives a Spiritual Weapon to aid the situation. It appears near to Leira and slices into the Big Cat. Spiritual Weapon: 1d20 + 6 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 6 + 4 = 181d8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8 Leira 24 (AC19 13/56)
