Hex Strike: http://www.d20pfsrd.com/feats/combat-feats/hex-strike-combat

If you hit with an unarmed strike you can cast a hex on the target as a swift action....

so I'm looking to build a twf paladin, however I want it to be str based and don't want to invest to much into dex, is there any way to get access to ranger fighting styles with out multiclassing?

This is 8 years old but it's still relevant http://paizo.com/threads/rzs2kyg4?SB-TWF-Paladin-build-advice#3

Short version: You need DEX if you want to TWF.

I am playing a paladin currently, you either want a 2 hander or go ranged to maximize damage in that class. TWF is really good but Paladins are such a MAD class and feat starved that TWF takes too much to get going.

If I was going to make my paladin again I would have made a small race archer with a bonded mount or a guy with a 2H weapon.

Currently I am S&B and leveling up sucks with TWF developing..

Some ideas

Skald - buff your two melee fighters, can do a little bit of everything
Archaelogist Bard with reach weapon, control, buff

I wouldn't play a Shaman, too close to the Witch and the Cleric you are playing.

And last but not least Druid. You can buff, heal, be a scout, control, fly...

And then get something like lunge?

Hey, I have a paladin of Paladine in an all range party. A wizard, shaman healer and a bow fighter.

Any suggestions on what I should build? I pretty much want to create a character that can prevent others from reaching the ranged group. I am already human so that cannot be changed.

It seems like paladins are feat starved...I don't know if I should go with a reach weapons build...dual wielding...pure turtle...

Kind of in a loss.

A knife master, scout is kind of my backup idea if I can't figure out a good caster build.

Maybe with Urban Barbarian for survivability.

This goblin won't be bound by Golarion lore, so there is no need to RP in a specific way.

Hey,

I want to make a goblin character for a low level game, so max level 6 or so, starting at level 1. Most character will be optimized so I don't want to fall behind but I don't want to be super cheesy either, so no I am human with goblin feats, but dipping in a class is not out of the question.

I read about the Roll With It feat and it made me really want to play a goblin.

It's probably going to be 20 point buy.

I kind of want to play a self-sufficient character that could solo quest or at least survive if the whole party wipes, which has made me start thinking about playing a caster of some sort

Also as a side note, Roll With It says that you can move up to your speed if you get hit. So if my speed is 30 and I get hit for 31 points of damage what happens?

I've been playing a mythic paladin in Wrath of the Righteous with a similar focus.

What kind of weapons do you use?

Mythic doesn't do defense well for PC at least, it mostly inflate rocket tags.

So how do I rocket tag better? :)

I hear ya on the Mythic Power use, I will keep it in mind.

Is your table allowing the content from Legendary Games' Mythic Mania series, or are you sticking with core Mythic Adventures?

No 3rd party, everything else is allowed

Hey, I had created a post a few months ago about needing Paladin advice, but of course we ended up getting a mythic tier which changed my planned progression....so here we are again.

Can I get a build recommendation for a
1. 20 point buy Human
2. Paladin only
3. Wants to protect others
4. Uses shield (preferred)
5. Has a Mithral Breastplate (I don't like movement penalties)

Currently he is level 5, with 1 mythic tier. Party is shaman, rogue, ranger (archer), witch and myself, a Paladin

I don't want a totally defensive build because I find them boring, but I am pretty much the only person in the party that gets hit to the face so I have to be able to survive.

Cornugon Smash needs 6 ranks on Intimidate, that means I have to take it at level 7 since at level 5 I can have at max 5 ranks in intimidate.

Or am I reading the rules wrong?

Thanks for all the help.

I am all set :)

Is Oath if Vengeance a good Archetype or do you have another recommendation?

Ryze, I believe you just gave me my build.

For a 20 point but how would you spend your points?

Edit: Also is Oath of Vengeance a good Archetype or do you have another recommendation?

How often are there opportunities for AoO? It like the answer should be rarely. Does Pathfinder have a lot of battlefield movement?

Off the top of my head,I believe shield slam requires two weapon fighting. The straight bull rush build would not.

Would you have a light shield? What kind of weapon?

Or would you have a reach 2h weapon?

Neils Bohr wrote:
What I would do for his build is grab combat reflexes and stand still at first level so you can pin the enemies in place, then build toward shield slam, or straight bull rush, so you can push them back on your turn. I'd prefer spells slam, since you could full attack with your main hand before hitting them with the shield to bull rush.

Would that require Two Weapon Fighting feats to do?

Bloodragers make good tanks. .

Skald can make a pretty good tank.

I appreciate the input but I have to stick with Paladin. However I will consider Bloodrage for a multiclass option.

Long John wrote:
Entirely personal preference. I prefer non-reach to reach, excepting in the case of monks, where I threaten adjacent anyways. Less odd things to fret about, which means more paladin & cat arse-kicking action.

That makes sense.

3 more questions

1. What familiar do you recommend?
2. What route would you take feat wise after 11? Critical? More shield feats?
3. What kind of equipment would you aim for? Plate? Breastplate? Shield spikes?

Long John wrote:
Also Halberd is the non-reach polearm I usually use with this build.

What are your thoughts about reach vs non reach weapons? Why is Halberd usually used?

Trying to understand the mindset, not questioning the advice.

Using your shield as a primary weapon can be fun, I recommend using Improved Shield Bash and using your weapon two-handed

Are you saying carrying nothing else but a shield? How would that build look like? Just shield feats :)

Chess Pwn wrote:

there's really not much you can do to "control" people with a paladin like this. The enemies should just kill your friends and ignore you for last.

How are you planning on doing protection?

This is why I posted this question :)

I have read about things like trips, bull rushes etc. To me that's control, can't hit my friends if you are on the ground, or 20ft away from them and can't get past me.

But obviously I don't know what way makes sense for a Paladin, they have such a limited amount of feats that I want to be cautious.

Shield Brace looks like an awesome feat.

I can't find Heart of the Fey. What does it do, or where is it book wise?

Hey,

I am a first time Pathfinder player, coming from DnD. I want to make a tank like paladin for my party.

The party has a shaman, ranger, rogue, wizard.

I want to be up to the front protecting the Squishies from death and have high survivability.

For various reasons in and out of character I feel that I should he using a shield, then the ranger and rogue can clean house as I stand there taking punishment.

I know there is no actual way to draw aggro, so I feel like control can allow me to protect others.

Race: human
20pt buy
All books except 3rd party allowed

I need a build that's good from 1 to level 12-16 so no late bloomers please.

Edit: Priority wise I care about being a tank for my teammates more than having a shield. So if reach weapons make sense or whatever that's fine.
