1. Yes, a Sorcerer can use the scroll with a caster level check. As Per Core rulebook: If the user meets all the requirements noted above, and her caster level is at least equal to the spell’s caster level, she can automatically activate the spell without a check. If she meets all three requirements but her own caster level is lower than the scroll spell’s caster level, then she has to make a caster level check (DC = scroll’s caster level + 1) to cast the spell successfully. If she fails, she must make a DC 5 Wisdom check to avoid a mishap (see Scroll Mishaps). A natural roll of 1 always fails, whatever the modifiers. If the caster level check fails but no mishap occurs, the scroll is not expended. Activating a scroll is a standard action (or the spell’s casting time, whichever is longer) and it provokes attacks of opportunity exactly as casting a spell does. 2. A Sorcerer casting a spell that is on the Sorcerer spell list would use Cha. 2. The rogue has to Decipher the scroll first. Then,as per the Core rulebook in the UMD section: (Emulate an Ability Score: To cast a spell from a scroll, you need a high score in the appropriate ability (Intelligence for wizard spells, Wisdom for divine spells, or Charisma for sorcerer or bard spells). Your effective ability score (appropriate to the class you’re emulating when you try to cast the spell from the scroll) is your Use Magic Device check result minus 15. If you already have a high enough score in the appropriate ability, you don’t need to make this check.) so said rogue could use either Int or Cha.
Looking at the scroll section and UMD section of the core rulebook: A fighter trying to use a scroll can take up to three checks. Decipher the scroll: requiring read magic, Spellcraft (20+ spell level, takes a full round action) or UMD (25+spell level requiring one minute of concentration). If you do not have the requisite ability score
Activate the Scroll: 20+ caster level of the scroll
My question is, how is the fighter casting from scrolls? Does he have an ability that lets him read magic or a wand of read magic? It takes a full round to read the scroll prior to casting it (which can be done ahead of time). He can not just grab a random scroll and UMD it without being able to read said scroll first. A fighter that UMD's a scroll that is normally a divine spell should have no spell failure, but casting an arcane spell he would (with no ability to negate arcane spell failure). The grey area is spells that appear on both arcane and divine lists, that is where you are likely to see table variation. A 7th level Magus has a class ability to cast arcane spells in medium armor with out ASF, I don't think it is limited by the level he can actually cast, he should be able to use scrolls above his casting level as long as he makes the caster level check without arcane spell failure.
I was a little disappointed about the upcoming GM Suli race boon. I know several people who worked very hard to gather the 4 elemental races to make a suli and now it will be a single boon. Thankfully I haven't played mine yet and will simply re purpose the individual elemental race boons and wait for my Suli (I GM a lot of smaller cons).
I have characters that go both ways. I like to multiclass for versatility.

I don't think this has been answered yet. I have a question about something that was asked earlier in the thread about wizards being able to add spells to a wizards spell book that are found on chronicles. What about other classes? If a class that doesn't have a spell book will they be allowed access to the new spells? If not I can see a lot of wizards and less of the other spell casting classes. |
