The Exchange

Should a seeker survive... you read my mind. Unlike my Talimah kin, life is something I treasure. Poor Telessar has forsaken his people's customs while that knave Righty has lived too long among the Taldans and adopted their odd ways.

I don't mind the monsters, haunts, and hazards of the Society's activities on Golarion. It is the next step .. heading into the planes. Only the damned, the foolish, the mad, or the desperate meddle in the planes. I forget the author..

Yet if I leave these things to men what horrors will they unknowingly unleash upon us. A hard choice.

The Exchange

The silver elf speaks in elven (of course)

Thank you, and Gamin ceases to speak. Silver continues in elven. I am nearing the end of my tenure. A single mission remains.. and then I don't know. What would you do without the inconvenience of these Pathfinders? My family has a group of estates west of Absolom I could buy an adjacent lot, I could buy my way up in the Exchange, or take the suicide missions they offer "seekers", or perhaps another option exists.

You help those that come here. The silver elf glides about the room... as if to absorb the scene for later review. What would you advise?

The Exchange

An elven figure bedecked in silver and green: mithril chainmail, silver clothes with silver thread, embroidered with green Soviyan trees that stretch out across his shoulders ending in green leaves...that seem almost real. All of his gear appears elven in make (especially an intricately carved dark wood composite longbow) save a strange longsword on his right shoulder. The elf taps his armor once. The sword speaks.

"Greetings Pathfinders."

The Exchange

Silver laughs, I got Telessar even if I couldn't get you. He bought it entirely. Yes, I had a competing bid for the quest with my own team. Only if you dropped out of course...so I bent a few ears and got the pot stirring.

(Silver is forgetting to speak in elven betraying his own aversion to the Taldane language)

The Exchange

Kyonin - very limited information on it so far. (Guidebook, 1 module somewhat, and 1 scenario) The treerazor sure. But the elf gates can go ... ? Are the returned elves mostly high level...? How does Kyonin work....? What is its layout...?

The Exchange

Surely out ofconcern for your well being, he says too quickly.

Bluff: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (6) + 13 = 19

Bluff:
Although the words are accurate an intention lies behind those words.

The Exchange

Nods in agreement to Righty.

Elven - Return to Kyonin with me. We can both retire there and even late in your life you can learn the elven ways, just a century of study will open your eyes.

The Exchange

(In Elven) Ever the human, word has been spread of your upcoming mission with that band of rascals you used to travel with. Your time has passed brother, rest in the glade and our people will teach you the Elven way of life. You should know that Telessar has been informed, as well. Turn from death and choose to live.

The Exchange

A green clad elf with mithral elven chainmail warily steps through the door. He bears a simple wayfinder on his belt. A strung datkwood bow with intricate elven runes is in hand while a beautiful lingsword is sheathed at his back. He walks directly to Righty

(In Elven) - Brother Rianthulas your establishment teems with.... customers, I hope the day finds you well.

The Exchange

Silver pulls a pen, ink, and paper from his traveling haversack. Writes a note, weighs it down with a silver coin, and departs.

Hurricane - sorry for leaping into the fray. Carpentry ... wooden weaponcraft is a specialty and I couldn't resist. The proceeds (minus expenses) of the sale will naturally revert to you. Good business to you.

Silvanus Talimah

The Exchange

Silver nods. He taps on the table three times.

The sword speaks, "Glorious news, we have a contract. We will accept your indicated sum three weeks hence. We shall hold the broken item and the material during the crafting process. You may examine the process three times over the course of crafting, the shop is located beyond the western wall of Absolom in the Eben Glade."

The Exchange

The elf snaps his fingers. The sword speaks.

"My glorious master has offered a solution. Are you prepared to negotiate the terms of payment?"

The Exchange

Silver nods approvingly. He withdraws a small bundle and unwraps a tree limb. He pauses, then says in elven "Thank you."

He continues in Taldane, "I admire a hidden weapon in plain sight. This material is darkwood, twice the strength of your prior weapon. It can be fashioned by a woodsmith of your choice or I can do the work myself. In either event you should lay an enchantment to further protect the weapon."

The Exchange

The sword continues, "Please bring the device closer and state the nature of your carpentry emergency."

Silver shifts the sword back to its shoulder sheath giving room for the weapon.

The Exchange

Silver looks at the newcomers and taps his sword.

"Greetings! My glorious master Silver greets you. Please direct all non elven inquires to me and I will happily represent him in this social encounter."

The Exchange

You have many enigmas. A sailor's life, a Mordant mask, a cryptic rumor regarding assistance. I wonder what lies behind these riddles.

The Exchange

You wear a mask, would you be from the spire?

Does something interest you? My attire although somewhat dated was crafted in Kyonin. I make an attempt to purchasae as many items as I may while I am there, and sell lightweight luxury goods here in Absolom. I don't make much, but it brightens the lives of those away from home.

I also craft my own arrows, it is best not to chance one's life to another's skill.

The Exchange

Shaine's been off in Absolom too long, more human than elf.

The humans are short lived, their use of magic and the unknown employs little caution. Rather than should their question is always can for every situation. This world would be better off in elven hands, but we ask should overmuch rather than can... and lose the initiative.

I seek a healthy medium of the two. I expect his activity to succeed in miserable failure, perhaps if we all live there can be some form of learning involved.

The Exchange

The people follow their hearts. It is an admirable item, it even grants its enchantment to other weapons.. an odd ability and one most foes are not prepared for.

I have fallen once in combat. I range disarmed a devastating foe, and his entire band turned on me ignoring the other Pathfinders in my unit. The enemy died handily, but I was moments away from Pharasma's arms...

One of the human barbarians observed my "theft of their leaders weapon ignited an unholy rage, which once spent left them helpless as babes"

The Exchange

Silvanus taps the sword, it speaks in Taldane. Silver smiles.

"Greetings! My glorious master Silver greets you. Please direct all non elven inquires to me and I will happily represent him in this social encounter."

Silver continues in elven, "Thank you." Then pauses and resumes his conversation. "I am not speaking in riddles in this case, I found an intelligent blade. I've identified several command words in elven which he can recognize easily. My own methods of combat follow those of the Arcane Archer, yet my methods are different than the classical schooling."

"I see you bear an old wound." Silver pours himself a half glass of fey wine setting the decanter back to the middle of the table.

The Exchange

Silver speaks only in elven, his elven chain armor immaculately cleaned. The silver metal obviously made in Kyonin bearing an insignia of house Talimah - the magical shadow.

He draws two crystal glasses from a side pouch on his pack. Then a bottle of fey wine in an elegant decanter from the central compartment. He lays his sword oddly across the table before sitting.

Greeting to one of the people. I rarely find someone to speak with as I will no longer speak Taldane, except in the direst of emergencies. Luckily my sword speaks their language well enough to afford me that luxury. I am honored to be in this place, my name is Silvanus Talimah.

The Exchange

Silver hears the tale and ventures inside, more interested in the occupant than in his wares.

Your build has peaked my interest, any chance on what roughly the DC would be for a ranged Disarm? I have a (grandfathered) Aasimar that I am considering to rebuild... and you have gotten my interest with the build...

You have me in the rare case when I can write at home (rather than my phone). But all my characters are over at one of my friends houses as I neglected to pick those up as I was heading out the door.

Memory only answer:

Silver's current level 10
Dex 20, BAB 8, weapon +4 (via arcane pool and +2 wpn), WF1, Wtrain 1, PBS 1

20 + 20 (Tstrike) -4 (due to negatives on archer ranged disarm) -2 Rapid Shot = 34 before dice.

Reference: PRD - Trick Shot (Ex): At 3rd level, an archer can choose one of the following combat maneuvers or actions: disarm, feint, or sunder. He can perform this action with a bow against any target within 30 feet, with a –4 penalty to his CMB. Every four levels beyond 3rd, he may choose an additional trick shot to learn. These maneuvers use up arrows as normal.

Note: if you're really in a bind you can tack on Arcane accuracy (+int to hit) if you've taken that magus arcana.

You can squeak a few more points if you like from various other means, but I think 34+dice is usually good enough (with limited investment.)

The Exchange

One thing to note ranged disarm may draw dm aggro :). I nearly died last time I took away someone's favorite toy and the room turned it's full attention to me.

Very interresting, care to show your build?

Concerning your tactic, melee and ranged magus characters can already use true strike with trip/disarm etc. And they don't have to spend a full round action to disarm.

And even with the eldritch archer, the best you could do would be to use spell combat, make your regular number of attacks (no additional attack from spell combat) and cast true strike at the end. Following that you could use ranged disarm.

Full round disarm, I said prep round, as I cant spell combat with a bow as a Myrmidarch. Round 2 starts a full attack with the first arrow disarming at normal th+16 as the archer ranged disarm is a -4 (min)

The change makes my myrmidarch more effective. Full attack on both rounds is better than prep round of true strike and full attackon round 2.

The Exchange

My current version of myrmidarch
Archer 3 (fighter archetype)
Myrmidarch 8 (magus archetype)
Arcane archer 2 (afterward retake myr to 15)

Archer ranged disarm (use w true strike) at 30'
Note takes a prep round currently

Myrmidarch mainly avoids ranged spellstrike unless he is forced to move and uses arcane accuracy and prescient attack (bought via feat)

Note level 6 weapon training
Note level 7 fighter training
Note level 8 armor training

Relevant to Eldritch archer - I'd skip Mymidarch and spell combat to true strike each round to ranged disarm.

And likely combine a level of dual sorc to add +2/die to a chosen energy type.

The Exchange

I disarmed (at range 30) some npc's fancy weapon then someone (pc) ran off with it. His buddies laid into me over two rounds to +1 con left. Afterward my barbarian friend leans over, "buddy are you on their list or something?"

Nope I just took away their favorite toy and they are expressing a fair amount of irritation.

The Exchange

I went archer 5 magus (myrmidarch) 6 then plan to do aa onward. It gives 2 weapon training, a fluid +2, and gives a littke boost on move & shoot by adding a ray into a bow shot. I wanted an effective ranged disarm using true strike.

The Exchange

Gamin adds, pray what kind of trade are you engaged in. I know the vulgarity of shop talk may offend some....Yet I feel it easier to ask rather than guess.

Silver speaks again in elven. Former Aspis agent, have you encountered the crusaders in past? Their ideal seems more in tune with your song. Or am I hearing the wind rather than the tune.

The Exchange

Gamin replies, Honored Katarina as a sword I have no eyes to view your unparalleled beauty...or lack of sugary coating. I must inferr such things from the conversation itself. If I make the wrong inference it is only due to limitations of my design.

Silver adds, a design I paid exorbitantly to improve. But costs are of no concern when collecting priceless relics are they Gamin.

I am beautiful, rare, and old like a good scotch.

Silver adds, you cant drink scotch and I prefer fey wine. But I do like listening and diskike talking so by all means continue.

You are a kind and generous man, Silver.

Elf... (growled out as if in rebuke)

Yes of course.

The Exchange

Gamin responds, "It is good my lord Silver was not dispatched to the wedding. It would undoubtedly result in a funeral..or dozen."

Silver snaps, "Gamin, Trade Princess Katarina speaks sensibly.... It is good to listen as well as speak."

Gamin responds, "My lord you would speak with a human...is that not my assigned task?"

Silver pauses, "No, I will listen. You may continue."

"My dear Silver, of course. Attention Trade Princess Katarina. My Lord Silver extends his gracious welcome. He may inquire if you are actually coated in sugar, or if that is a metaphor. I am Gamin, boon companion and designated communicator in the form of a fine longsword."

The Exchange

Gamin these people are very confusing.

My Lords, Pathfinder Silver expresses a concern that your dialog does not present a clear picture of what you want, so answering it becomes more difficult.

Many within the society have less than pure intentions, so long as we cooperate, explore, and report..it has ever been irrelevant the means by which it is done. One hopes that our actions favor the better angels of our souls. As by example, the society's successful crusade against the demons of the world wound. Is not that success which covers your misconception about the group in total.

The Exchange

A well groomed archer in mithril chain responds. The armor is clearly elven as are most of his items save for a jeweled wayfinder. He speaks in elven.

"I am Silver to the pathfinder society. My real name is Silvanus Talimah."

"This is the Exchange, warfare is generally bad for business. Less customers whomever wins. If you want the more martial branch, the silver crusade. If you want the more arcane oriented scarab sages & darkive. There is also Liberty's Edge but I don't dwell with them much so I defer judgement to to one with greater experience."

Not that I am unskilled in weapons, but it's a secondary skill. My interests lie in magical equipment; finding it, studying it, selling pieces that are of mild interest, and keeping those of note.

"You mean like me?" (The sound originates behind the elf)
Silver responds, "Yes Gamin, you are exactly the oddity I find most amusing."

The Exchange

This is mine. Ftr Archer 4, Myrmidarch 7, Arcane archer 2. Then back to Myr or keep going AA or get weapon training at F5. I havent decided on which way is best yet.

Feats WF comp LB, Deadly Aim, Rapid Shot, Cluster Shot, imp familiar, Imp crit

Fighter BF - PBS, PS, Weapon Spec CLB
Myrmidarch BF - combat reflexes, Weapon Training
Archer 3 (ranged disarm)
Arcana familiar

Ranged disarm with true strike is fun. I dont see a big deal about adding a single ray (unless you are moving) vs a full attack with arrows. Imbue arrow at AA2 is for obscuring mist and some burning hands effects. Its fun, tactical, and my elven supremacist defers talking to non elves to his pseudodragon "translator/secretay"

"Hello this is Silver's office. Mr. Silver is busy now, please leave a message and he will return your communication at his earliest convenience."

The Exchange

Silver glances to the dragon, I see you employ a similar device in your communications. I commend you on an excellent choice.

The Exchange

A somber elf walks forward bedecked in the garb of a bowman, except for the radiant sword over his shoulder. The sword speaks..

Greetings from Silvanus Talimah the ogre bane. I have been contracted to speak by Silver for all non elven communications. He bids you health wealth and speedy payments of debts.

Our last port of call were the wilds of Hook mountain, where numerous beasts and monsters vile fell to the overwhelming skill of the Pathfinders.

Silver looks more pleased to see Tahlmah and raises hos empty hand. In the elven dielect states, "Peace and joy to you. I am pleased to see another member of the people here in Absolom. Our kin grow too slowly near to the Tanglebriar. So, I have ventured far to gather knowledge, magic, and skill to quell our foes. You may find more people within the western periphary of the city."

The Exchange

Damage about equal to archer - except the gunslinger hits much more often, even on 2ndary hits. If he's moderately clever he can't miss at higher levels. EG - wand of obscuring mist and goz mask... ranged touch no dex no dodge. Or a tiefling with darkness against humans.

We just finished a recent scenario (level 7) The gunslinger (musket master) took the demons apart at 9's, wheras my archer needed 14+ I noticed his bonus and mine on damage were similar 14 (me) vs. 11 him. However, I landed 1/4 arrows and he landed 3/4 shots regularly. Whenever he critted, goodbye foe (44+4d12). When I threatened a crit, I failed to confirm (needed 14+)

Sure thing if the archer hits all shots. However, on monsters with low touch vs. high armor - the archer will lose.

The Exchange

I like fighter (archer) 6 magus (myrmidarch) 6, with a possibility of monk (maneuver master) 2

2, weapon training
Ranged disarm + true strike
Increase bow bonus by +2
Wf, Ws, and myr 7 gives you fighter train to get gwf and gws.

The Exchange

Even the best banker needs debt collectors. I don't see any difference in the rewards involved for either leader. Maybe Szarnis will clean up a little and Qdirans will get a little dirtier. Sounds like a movie line

The Exchange

Deylinarr, I am in the same direction. Although I went Archer 4 rather than Monk(to obtain ranged disarm and weapon specialization), then Magus 5, then AA 3, then back to magus for the balance. Although I'm split between Magus 5 or Magus 7 before AA in order to obtain Fighter Training / Greater Weapon Focus.

(Blackstorm) - Spell combat doesn't work with bows. There are several threads on this discussion. I wish it did.

The Exchange

Would reach metamagic work?. I'd expect shocking grasp close range becomes ranged touch

The Exchange

At level 1 you're going good.
After 1st - 3rd scenarios you'll have a few hundred gold
pick up the following.

APG items (weapon blanches)
silver
cold iron
adamantine

It applies to 10 arrows each, but you'll be able to bypass DR's. Then pick up an oil of magic weapon...and start saving up for:

1. +1 composite, versatile, darkwood longbow.
2. eventually make it invulnerable
3. efficient quiver
4. keep a back up composite longbow

(changes before level 2) - you can change anything (except gold total and name.)

The Exchange

My path to arcane archer is Myrmidarch
Myr 9 , AA - 3

Improve your bow (cheaply), Add rays onto arrow hits, eventually area effects into arrows, True strike.

The Exchange

Options maybe?
1. Necklace of Adaptation
2. Have undead (shadows) or elemental (air) familiars
3. Air bubble spell

I'm somewhat interested as I plan to have a pseudodragon in a few levels.

The Exchange

Its allying transfer the bonus to another. Pump gamin up to +3 and dump the bonus on a friendly fighter. Or just talk to a cheap intelligent weapon without going bladebound.

The Exchange

My magus loves it.

The Exchange

I found some of our old foes hiding in Varisia. I didn't get to put any arrows into Lissalan scum, but my shots still found their mark. May fortune favor the ruthless.

The Exchange

Sorry luv lost me at Marquise. I shot up a few brigands for dear Taldor in the wilds of Varisia. Following some poor chap around like a mother hen. Half of the time, I wanted to push the lout back into the gutter where he belonged. Righting wrongs, finding loose knick nacks, delivering parcels to and fro ... yeah Taldor?!?

Well anyway, I'm glad the grand design is working out for you. ... I miss the Baron.

(odd, my monicer should be Taldor..but its not) Very odd.
