While I am not unwilling, does anyone else want to put their hat in the ring to be the Alchemist’s apprentice? He specifically mentioned wishing he had an apprentice. That is probably our best in.

"That is an academics ideal bedroom, Master Zaine. I can not help but feel a pang of jealousy," Sercrutio delivers with a smile. "Though," he adds jokingly, "with all of those books in your bed chamber, how much sleep do you actually get?"

My argument: If Jed was holding it before he released it then it certainly could have been within range of her when she "starts to try and leave". Secondly, while it cannot stop her from going in the water, the entangled condition very much penalizes the skills necessary to swim.
