F Cinder Flame Oracle/Wilder 2

Seirin shrieked and tried to wriggle free of the grip of the warrior dragging her up onto the bear.

Escape Artist: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15

F Cinder Flame Oracle/Wilder 2

Seirin panics. She can't see well enough to run! She screams and put up her hands defensively as the blur that is the bear gets near. Flames shoot out from her outstretched hands.

Burning hands spell. She's not actually trying to hurt anyone. This likely happens before the bear is in range to get more than slightly singed, not really damaged. She's trying to scare it away.

F Cinder Flame Oracle/Wilder 2

Seirin frowned. Her clouded eyes turned towards the bear riders leader as she prepared for a possible breakdown in negotiations. She tried to hold herself with dignity, but her mud-covered bare feet, still-wet and now getting a bit frizzy dark curls, her outfit that looked like it was cobbled together entirely out of every spare shawl and scarf she could find and never mind if any of it matched (as if she'd even know if they matched with her vision problems), and the fact that she was barely any older than the bear riders herself all acted together to mostly spoil the effect.

"Ummm....maybe they're Aerili? I heard someone talking about them at one of the inns I stayed at on the way here.....it sounded pretty weird," she said, doubtfully.

Also.. not sure if Dami saw that this started back up.

Perception: 1d20 + 1

"I am ready, if there are suddenly unusual creatures in the fight, know they are by my magics summoned. I shall continue to guide Seirin's, if she is willing. Melee is not my way."

Augustus ties the one bag tightly, so it is closer to his hip and back, leaving his backpack on the tavern floor somewhere neatly to the side.

Unless mistaken, we're still in the tavern, right?

Yes, we were standing just inside the door, looking out at the mess outside.

"I am grateful for your assistance, Augustus," Seirin said, trying very hard to be brave.

F Cinder Flame Oracle/Wilder 2

"Just point me in the right direction....umm...really....I can't see much more than moving shapes which doesn't help figure out friend from foe," she said, trying to hide her nervousness. She wasn't one to search out a fight if she could help it.

F Cinder Flame Oracle/Wilder 2

Yeah, same here. Have to wait for others to act before the mostly blind girl does anything. :)

F Cinder Flame Oracle/Wilder 2

Seirin stood up and walked towards the others, feeling a bit lost by herself, leaving a trail of dirt behind her as the mud that had dried on her bare feet cracked off as she walked. She tripped over a chair on the way and sprawled across the floor, quickly scrambling up trying to gather the pieces of her oft-lost dignity.

"So, uh, what was it you heard?"

F Cinder Flame Oracle/Wilder 2

"You should have the mulled wine, Augustus, especially if it has honey in it...it will help you feel much better...not as much better as being dry, but sitting near the fire should help," she said, her grumpy mood lifting as they were finally out of the wet.

"I'll try the mulsum as well," she said, with a guarded smile to the innkeeper. She continued to fidget as if sitting still was a foreign concept to her.

"I think the first order of business is finding shelter from the rain, no? That isn't already occupied preferably. Grand plans are all well and good, but it's always the small things they trip up on. At least, that's what my grandfather always said," she said miserably. She didn't like this one bit. She was wet, and hungry, and her left shoe had completely given up attempting to be a shoe and the mud didn't want to give back the remains of it...or her foot either for that matter.

F Cinder Flame Oracle/Wilder 2

Seirin looked nervously towards the tunnel and then just as nervously out at the rain.

"I'm not much use in the wet," she said fearfully.

F Cinder Flame Oracle/Wilder 2

"It feels solid," she said, sounding confused as she examined the statue. "And yet, it was somehow made from...nothing."

F Cinder Flame Oracle/Wilder 2

"Augustus...these statues you are making...may I touch them? I...I can't really see the material you are making them from at all while they are being made. I would like to see if they are...real?"

F Cinder Flame Oracle/Wilder 2

"My emotions have become more intense. It started before I left home...it's what pushed me to leave, but that was like a gentle rain compared to the storm I feel now. It's like....like everything, every feeling is magnified beyond belief. And they change so fast."

F Cinder Flame Oracle/Wilder 2

Somehow as she sat there the storm of emotions crystallized into some sort of remarkable mental clarity....she'd never experienced anything quite like it before. She stood up, using the wall to pull herself back to standing.

"True Vanguard, my ass," she said, a passionate outburst she couldn't contain, her emotions running away with her yet again. "As if being willing to be the Nethysians' dogs in perpetuity makes you truer than the rest of us."

As quickly as the flare of temper appeared it vanished. Her expression turned remorseful. "I'm sorry," she said quietly. "I should not take it out on you. Especially when you have been kind to me. I have no love for the Nethysians, and with good reason, but none of that is your fault. My emotions...they tend to run away with me of late."

F Cinder Flame Oracle/Wilder 2

When the sound had startled her it had brought the storm of emotions to a boil. She sat down, curled up, her knees drawn close to her chest, silent tears running down her face as she was completely lost in feelings.

This is her gaining psionic focus since her powers come from emotion.

F Cinder Flame Oracle/Wilder 2

Seirin is done except for equipment.

And I can't really justify the starting gold allowed for her class with her background and such. She doesn't wear armor, doesn't really use a weapon...maybe a club/walking stick, but those are free, doesn't come from an affluent family....this is why I hate working out first level equipment. Logic and rules don't always go together. :/

At this point she's got clothes (and is in need of new shoes), maybe some rations, soap, and uh....she doesn't need anything to help her start fires or mend stuff and....uhhhh......yeah, I think I'm done.....maybe a healers kit? Suggestions?

F Cinder Flame Oracle/Wilder 2

Seirin had been about to correct the young man...Augustus? Ocatavius? She couldn't quite remember. But he'd called her lady, which was silly. And then BOOM! And since being awakened by the rain she'd been too disoriented to speak. The others seemed to recover more quickly. But she was utterly overwhelmed. She'd thought her emotions were running wild before, but now...they were nearly crippling. Everything was so intense. She was confused and scared and curious and angry and excited and....and she could feel the presence of the others just vaguely on the edges of her sense. It was disorienting which just sent her into another emotional spiral. Things were moving too quickly, she couldn't catch up, she felt panic.

Outwardly she seemed quiet, docile even, as Augustus led her into the cave, her emotions changing so fast none of them had the chance to make it to the surface just yet.

Giving the other three a polite greeting and appropriate Nethysian salutation in terms of bowing or what not, Augustus peers once towards Seirin and says, "Does the Lady wish some assistance? I am happy to serve." He would provide out an arm, having walked up closer now to the group.

"Yes, thank you," she said with gratitude. "I can only see for a limited distance and even then it's a bit fuzzy. Like looking at shadows. I miss being able to see colors," she said wistfully. "My name is Seirin Amathia. I'm no one of any particular importance, just an ordinary girl from Gand. Although I have some affinity for fire. The village cleric used to babble on about how I was chosen by the gods. But he never could seem to figure out who I was supposed to have been chosen by or for what purpose," she added dryly.

F Cinder Flame Oracle/Wilder 2

Seirin jumped in surprise when Midha entered the clearing.

"Ah. Sorry. I couldn't see you....my vision is poor," she said in Nethysian.

F Cinder Flame Oracle/Wilder 2

How big is this clearing? This is particularly relevant to Seirin since she can only see for 30 ft. I'm not sure how to have her react when I don't know distance.

F Cinder Flame Oracle/Wilder 2

Seirin picked her way carefully among the rocks, her cloudy vision making it difficult for her to make her way safely through. She was as of yet unaware of any others moving towards or already in the glade. A teenage girl of middling height she was pretty enough, but mostly unremarkable except for her clouded eyes. She was dressed in loose practical clothing, a colorful skirt and embroidered tunic with various scarves tied around, one serving as a belt, one knotted up containing her meager possessions and slung across her back, another tied around her shoulders as a shawl, and still another tying her long dark curls away from her face. Her rope sandals had not been intended for long travel when she started out and by now they are a sad joke, barely qualifying as shoes anymore.

Ahh.. the Vanguard are an ethnic group. Effectively, they are white people, where True Nethysians are black. The Nethysians sheltered them when they were refugees, and then the (effective) slavery started. That was a long time ago, several hundred years.

The Gandian rebellion was a combination of a number of factors, but once the rumours of rebellion began, Vanguard flocked there in droves to support it, which turned it from a small rebellion into a huge problem for Nethys.

Does that make sense?

Yes, thanks. Now I have enough to work with to make my background. :)

And now I can post with my alias. I had to clean out the profile first. Recycled alias from a character that never saw play.

I think Toph may be a bad example as well. After all, she was more than first level when she joined the group. Would have had to be since she was regularly beating grown-up earthbenders in prize fights. So she'd have had a few katas.

I do like that out of combat we can do more stuff with bending. It makes sense to me. It's easier to keep your mind calm when you aren't in the middle of a fight.

Alright, it's late, I'm tired, so I apologize in advance if this thing is full of mistakes, but here is my character. :)

Background stuff:

"Seirin, there aren't words to express how deeply disappointed I am right now."
Nearly in tears, "Papa, you aren't listening to me! I was doing what you asked! I was practicing, just like you all keep telling me to do. I didn't mean to set Mr. Ying's shed on fire. How was I supposed to know that the flames would go that far? They never did before."
"Stop arguing...just....just go to your room. NOW."
