"Stop your friends hurting my friends, this was just a misunderstanding!" Salonius calls to the charmed man.

He then dodges back further around the table and scatters colored sand which turns into a cone of scintillatinly brilliant colors which assault the two men in front of Logan.

Realizing things have gone badly wrong and having no desire to prove his "worth" in a fist fight Salonius dodges between the two men to one side spins and casts charm person on the nearest of his assailants.

Salonius slips and finding himself on the table pushes himself up careful to avoid the presumably greasey floor, "I am truly sorry gentlemen, I am afraid I seem to have slipped in something. I am very sorry to have disturbed your leisure please accept my sincerest apologies."

Trying not to be obvious about it Salonius moves maintaining his detect magic and glances towards the bar again attempting to triangulate and see if the aura corresponds to anything he can see. He also wishes to determine if it is mobile.

If practical he wants to take 20 for a 27 Perception.

Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22

Salonius pulls a face, "I can, but if its a moving source I am unlikely to get anying of use. Cannot hurt to try though. may I suggest you wake that fellow up so he can stop the fights?"

He casts detect magic and begins scanning the room, paying attentions to dark corners and anything that might be up in the rafters.

Male Human Wizard 1, Init +3; Perception +7 (+5 if no Peeko); 16/16 HP, 13 AC 13 Touch 10 FF; Fort +2, Ref +3, Will +3, Splintered Spear 7/7

Salonius happily chats with Fhingle about magic, expounding upon several theoretical concepts he finds fascinating, and getting somewhat over enthused about the concept of imbued magical plants.

When Saul comes over he frowns and attempts to scan the room discretely. When Clenchjaw falls asleep he narrows his eyes and whispers back to Saul,

"I wonder if we are dealing with more malicious fey. They do seem to be cropping up quite frequently and an invisible, or small and stealthy creature would seem to fit. Should we wake the proprietor?"

"Does that not rather suppose having something we wish to be informed about? Is there anything in particular we wish to know, perhaps the whereabouts of figures from the various banned, or discouraged religions? Can you just ask for general news and then hone in on something that interests you, or does it not work like that?" Salonius asks, trying to picture how such a process might work.

"Perhaps we spend some time listening for gossip first?"

Male Human Wizard 1, Init +3; Perception +7 (+5 if no Peeko); 16/16 HP, 13 AC 13 Touch 10 FF; Fort +2, Ref +3, Will +3, Splintered Spear 7/7

"Ah, well that is reassuring at least, I am glad we do not have reason to suspect our allies. As for listening magic, I think it unlikely, if they knew enough about us to put a listening spell on us, they would know enough to have the Dottari drag us all into cells," Salonius says before turning to Fhingle,

"I have no objection, but is there a particular reason that you believe Clenchjaws will prove fruitful? I confess I will be somewhat out of my element, but I suppose getting out of our comfort zones is a necessary part of this endeavour."

Male Human Wizard 1, Init +3; Perception +7 (+5 if no Peeko); 16/16 HP, 13 AC 13 Touch 10 FF; Fort +2, Ref +3, Will +3, Splintered Spear 7/7

Shaking Logan's hand Salonius smiles, "S, or Salonius, either is fine, depending upon your fondness for brevity. Welcome Logan, being good at punching things may well prove an invaluable skill."

Turning to Saul and Fhingle he asks, "Did you hear the latest proclamation? We may need to find an alternate communication system with the tieflings. Does anyone else think it likely one of their number is an informer? That proclamation was issued suspiciously quickly after Saul's suggestion."

Male Human Wizard 1, Init +3; Perception +7 (+5 if no Peeko); 16/16 HP, 13 AC 13 Touch 10 FF; Fort +2, Ref +3, Will +3, Splintered Spear 7/7

Thanking Paris Salonius heads over to Rexus to inquire about his ongoing translation efforts, and assist if he feels he can be of service.

"Saul, Fhingle. Who is this?" Salonius asks, tone welcoming, but cautious.

"No! Well actually Cherry Perry has a bit of a ring to it, and it would be much easier to make than Cherry Brandy... It is one of my earlier varieties... But no, it might end up serving as a gateway fruit, and before you know it they would be at the cake flavored pears."

Salonius says shaking his head. Muttering more dire imprecations he sets to tending the orchard, while stopping frequently to stir the soup. After a half hour or so he leaves the soup to cool on the stove and takes a basket of apples over to The Academy Kitchens where he exchanges them with Mistress Kedda for a loaf of fresh baked bread and a pale of yogurt.

Returning he has lunch with Professor Glenell, constantly pushing more bread and soup her way. Once done he cleans the table and sets out his writing supplies and begins scribing a scroll of True Strike.

Only then in the late afternoon does he head to the Coffee House seeking out his companions to discus what their next steps ought to be,

"Excuse me Laria, good afternoon, and, um, wuld you happen to have seen any sign of my usual companios today?"

"Somebody has been stealing my pears again! I want them expelled, well maybe not expelled... I'll just charm them and make them eat a hundred ordinary pears, which they have to pay for, and then nature will take its course and they will have to spend a week in the privy... Or just tell Peeko that he gets a dozen worms every time he craps in their hair..." Salonius fumes,

"Also I am making soup."

Male Human Wizard 1, Init +3; Perception +7 (+5 if no Peeko); 16/16 HP, 13 AC 13 Touch 10 FF; Fort +2, Ref +3, Will +3, Splintered Spear 7/7

LOL, except its kinda better that its likely to be wholly ineffectual, an expression of impotent rage at a world with an impertinent lack of interest in botanical horticulture.

Salonius glowers at the empty spaces, these fruits are important research materials, which buffoon thinks it is appropriate to eat my research! I'll feed Peeko their steaming entrails, the inconsiderate, undereducated.... Boobs!

"Peeko I need you to hide and stand watch for thieves again, if you can identify the culprits I will double your worm tally. I am going to write a strongly worded note..."

"Peeko guards fruit! Peeko will have... Seven hundred worms? Peeko guards!"

Muttering darkly he heads in and writes several notes stating that fruit thieves will be brought to the Academy disciplinary committee, and that the fruits have been treated with poisons to prevent pests and may be poisonous to humans if not properly neutralized.

"Scrumping bastards, wish they were poisoned."

Then he irritably reprepares his color spray spell leaving the rest as they were yesterday. Still irked he puts some soup on for himself and the Professor, chopping vegetables viciously.

With a sigh Salonius tidies himself up and eats breakfast, using his old tactic of telling a fascinating story about how Dwolf Gloindram discovered grafting, which he knows will cause his family to loose all interest in being in the same room as him. Ugh, if it was slaying a dragon eveyone would be interested, but when it is something with more long lasting and significant implications everyone acts as though it is tedium personified I do not understand people!

After feeding an insistent Peeko some dried worms he keeps in his bedside table for emergencies he heads back to the Academy resolved to take care of the Orchard before hesorts out Professor Glenell - who is more resilient than his precious trees as a rule.

Apologies for the delay, about to read up and post now. I over extended myself taking extra shifts, but should be back to a normal schedule now.

Welcome aboard Logan! Glad to get the numbers up, its been a great game so far, so hopefully we can keep the momentum going :)

I would kind of love someone to play one of Salonius's sisters, but it might be better as a pipe dream :)

Grim faced Salonius takes his dagger and attempts to free the poor child from the sinews as respectfully as he can. Once done he offer to prestidigitate the child clean, gathers up the bindings and bids the tieflings a solemn fair well.

Heading back to the Alabaster Academy he is suddenly grabbed on the street, and still half asleep his heart lurches in terror! Until he recognizes his sister Mellia.

"Sallie! Why do you look like you haven't slept in a month?! Mother says you haven't been by in days and now I see you lurching through the streets like a drunkard!" Mellia exclaims, hands on hips, in a pose she clearly copied from the Barridan families formidable matron.

"Sal-on-i-us! Uh, Mellie, help me with my homework," Salonius manages, entirely flustered, before chanting a spell.

"The hells was that? Are you still mucking around with magical trees? Come home right now, if Mother finds out I saw you and did not kidnap you I will be in for it in your place."

"Ahhhhh? But, but..."

Grabbing his arm Mellia, marches him back top the Barridan family home. Where his dark eyes get the fearsome rebel sent directly to bed for a nap.

It would be wrong of me to envy orphans, it would be wrong of me to envy orphans.

Sorry to hear that Meliandri, but nice that it seems to be because you seem to be getting to a better place. Best of luck!

"Ahhhh?" Salonius says slightly bleary eyed, he tries to recall if the chains could be simply removed or would require tools.

Male Human Wizard 1, Init +3; Perception +7 (+5 if no Peeko); 16/16 HP, 13 AC 13 Touch 10 FF; Fort +2, Ref +3, Will +3, Splintered Spear 7/7

Salonius nods solemnly to the tieflings and asks, "Could you please keep the chains for me once you have laid the poor little fellow to rest? I wish to find out exactly who did this, and hopefully prevent them doing so again. Deciphering that script might give us more clues. If that is okay I will return tomorrow if that would be acceptable?"

Male Human Wizard 1, Init +3; Perception +7 (+5 if no Peeko); 16/16 HP, 13 AC 13 Touch 10 FF; Fort +2, Ref +3, Will +3, Splintered Spear 7/7

Ditto, hope things get better whatever is up :)

"I truly believe that all of Kintargo is going to suffer greatly under the Thrunian yoke. Resisting is potentially dangerous and hard, but if we do not all of our lives are going to get worse, every day until he has crushed our spirit and those who do not fit into his plan are eliminated, please consider joining with us to take a stand." Salonius adds, pleased Saul has not overtly lied, we are with him, even if we have not met him. If he is a him.

Male Human Wizard 1, Init +3; Perception +7 (+5 if no Peeko); 16/16 HP, 13 AC 13 Touch 10 FF; Fort +2, Ref +3, Will +3, Splintered Spear 7/7

"Not pointless risks. In either scenario they know who we are, if they go to the Dottari will it make a difference if they say Salonius Barridan, is working for the Jackdaw to rebel, or if they say Salonius Barridan is rebelling? I am pretty sure they will try to murder us either way. So lying gains us absolutely nothing, and the Jackdaw is still a potential ally who we have not told lies about. Generally I am not fond of people lying about me, but perhaps he loves it. I leave it to you, my opinion should be clear, I only hope you lie well." Salonius snaps irritably, sitting down with a scowls and making a hand washing gesture.

Male Human Wizard 1, Init +3; Perception +7 (+5 if no Peeko); 16/16 HP, 13 AC 13 Touch 10 FF; Fort +2, Ref +3, Will +3, Splintered Spear 7/7

"But its a lie... We don't have anything to do with Jackdaw, I wish we did. Wold you want someone recruiting you to a potentially life threatening cause to lie to you, or would you want to actually know what you were getting into? And can you guarantee me some savvy tiefling elder is not going to see through you in a heartbeat? Decisions should be based upon a reasonable debate, a system where you get to make the decision because your last one did not make sense is just crazy. Explain why your idea is better and if we do not agree the group can simply vote. I think your suggestion both morally and practically wrong."

Male Human Wizard 1, Init +3; Perception +7 (+5 if no Peeko); 16/16 HP, 13 AC 13 Touch 10 FF; Fort +2, Ref +3, Will +3, Splintered Spear 7/7

"I don't think that achieves anything, they might spot the fact that we are lying and they are going to know our faces and not some fictitious leaders, so if there are informers they can only inform on us. All it does is provide an additional risk factor, and likely cost any trust our efforts might have engendered."

Male Human Wizard 1, Init +3; Perception +7 (+5 if no Peeko); 16/16 HP, 13 AC 13 Touch 10 FF; Fort +2, Ref +3, Will +3, Splintered Spear 7/7

Wild haired and irritable Salonius prestidigitates himself back to cleanliness before saying, "I do not think deceit is the way to go, and I do believe that the Thrunes are responsible for this. I already know they employ a murderous torturing none human, my supposition was that it was some form of devil, but it could equally be a fey, or he could have more such monstrous allies. Given the timing I can see no other obvious culprit. I think we tell them the truth, that we are trying to form a resistance and that we will try to protect them and other citizens of Kintargo as best we can, and hope they will consider joining or aiding us."

Male Human Wizard 1, Init +3; Perception +7 (+5 if no Peeko); 16/16 HP, 13 AC 13 Touch 10 FF; Fort +2, Ref +3, Will +3, Splintered Spear 7/7

"Many thanks Zea, heading back now while curfew is in place would be a risky endeavour indeed, and I should like to discover what caused this tragedy," Salonius says wearily, glancing around for a chair or comfortable looking spot he might doze in.

Male Human Wizard 1, Init +3; Perception +7 (+5 if no Peeko); 16/16 HP, 13 AC 13 Touch 10 FF; Fort +2, Ref +3, Will +3, Splintered Spear 7/7

"Yes, but I doubt we will find a happy home these creatures seem to come form painful backgrounds. The least we can do is unbind the poor child and give him a decent burial, if we can find his parents then of course we should return him. I need to figure out what that script on the chains says, but that will have to wait for tomorrow I think." Salonius says sorrowfully.

Male Human Wizard 1, Init +3; Perception +7 (+5 if no Peeko); 16/16 HP, 13 AC 13 Touch 10 FF; Fort +2, Ref +3, Will +3, Splintered Spear 7/7

Returning pale faced, Salonius prestidigitates his mouth, spits, and says, "I believe these things originate from the teeth of "willful" child’s tooth, or, in this case, a whole child buried in a place with strong connections to the mysterious realm of the fey. I suspect these chain constitute such a fey connection. It looks like someone did this deliberately, and given the timing I would say that someone is deeply connected to our new Thrunian overlord."

Male Human Wizard 1, Init +3; Perception +7 (+5 if no Peeko); 16/16 HP, 13 AC 13 Touch 10 FF; Fort +2, Ref +3, Will +3, Splintered Spear 7/7

Salonius stares at the scene wide eyed for a minute, then he hurries out gulps in air clutches his knees and vomits.

"Uggggh, why do we never meet nice fey?"

Male Human Wizard 1, Init +3; Perception +7 (+5 if no Peeko); 16/16 HP, 13 AC 13 Touch 10 FF; Fort +2, Ref +3, Will +3, Splintered Spear 7/7

No, he has low light so should see twice as well as a human, and was willing to take his time.

Cursing Salonius uncovers his light spell and hurls a splintered spear at the creature assaulting Fhingle, but his shock does little for his aim and the wood shatters against the tumbled down tavern nowhere near hitting its target.

Salonius examines the entry trying to see if they would be able to dash in to surprise the fey and looking for any other exits the creatures might be able to use to escape.

He whispers to Peeko sending the thrush to fly around the ruined building looking for possible escape routes.

Peeko flies around taking 20 on Perception for 29.

Male Human Wizard 1, Init +3; Perception +7 (+5 if no Peeko); 16/16 HP, 13 AC 13 Touch 10 FF; Fort +2, Ref +3, Will +3, Splintered Spear 7/7

"Stay with us Peeko, it is unlikely you could tail it if it went invisible. Do you think we should give it some time to reach its destination or follow now? I probably lean towards the former...' Salonius says, looking mainly to Saul given his profession.

Male Human Wizard 1, Init +3; Perception +7 (+5 if no Peeko); 16/16 HP, 13 AC 13 Touch 10 FF; Fort +2, Ref +3, Will +3, Splintered Spear 7/7

I think we just all follow, seems like it would take up a good deal of time for Peeko to follow and given it can turn invisible and its very dark success seems unlikely.

Male Human Wizard 1, Init +3; Perception +7 (+5 if no Peeko); 16/16 HP, 13 AC 13 Touch 10 FF; Fort +2, Ref +3, Will +3, Splintered Spear 7/7

LOL, I mean I didn't get my teeth ripped out, the dutch are fairly laid back in that respect.

Salonius studies the tooth fairy looking for a spot that might fit the ring, unsure whether it will resize and wondering whether it would work as a bracelet for such a small creature, or some such.

Male Human Wizard 1, Init +3; Perception +7 (+5 if no Peeko); 16/16 HP, 13 AC 13 Touch 10 FF; Fort +2, Ref +3, Will +3, Splintered Spear 7/7

"Saul can, we'll have Peeko follow it to and if, or when, it looses him we can utilize the ring. if tghat is alright with you Mels?"

LOL. I'll confess I would not want him as my dog, he is utterly exhausting, cannot be further than an inch from you no interest in other dogs, where as my own dog is just that little bit aloof.

Are you suggesting he was the real canine mastermind? ;)

Not one of my favourite weekends, only had to drive them because they were refused on the flight I was dropping my brother, sister in law, and nephew off for - they could not locate the microchip on one of them, not sure why the other could not go.

I get the old please Sir can you come with me and then they are laying a red and a yellow balloon down in front of me in evidence bags. And for just a second I am thinking no way he couldn't have, and then I realize they are just balloons from my nephews 2nd birthday party... Uggghh.

Male Human Wizard 1, Init +3; Perception +7 (+5 if no Peeko); 16/16 HP, 13 AC 13 Touch 10 FF; Fort +2, Ref +3, Will +3, Splintered Spear 7/7

"Well... Magic can be funny like that I guess. I suppose similar rings might have been used for tracking, ummm, reluctant guests, so only their jai... Hosts could remove them. it might prove pretty convenient for our purposes since it will mean that little flying murder fairy cannot remove it at its leisure."

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Apologies for the delay, very scary yesterday getting mildly interrogated as a drug smuggler in Holland after driving my brothers dogs there. The bloody lab had eaten balloons and I work in a prison so they put 2 and 2 together and got, well, something in grams, or ounces. 10 hours waiting for drug test results on the blasted beast - he's a good boy really.

Male Human Wizard 1, Init +3; Perception +7 (+5 if no Peeko); 16/16 HP, 13 AC 13 Touch 10 FF; Fort +2, Ref +3, Will +3, Splintered Spear 7/7

"If it is what I believe it to be Saul might have better luck removing it while wearing his ring. Give it a try Saul." Salonius says carefully avoiding naming the rings.

Male Human Wizard 1, Init +3; Perception +7 (+5 if no Peeko); 16/16 HP, 13 AC 13 Touch 10 FF; Fort +2, Ref +3, Will +3, Splintered Spear 7/7

"Mel's... Did your mother give you any jewellery and, could you take it off? I believe the ring is not tracking you, but a piece of jewellery... I believe this is a variant, but it might be something you find difficult to remove? And if so how would you feel about us putting it on this thing so we can track it?"

Male Human Wizard 1, Init +3; Perception +7 (+5 if no Peeko); 16/16 HP, 13 AC 13 Touch 10 FF; Fort +2, Ref +3, Will +3, Splintered Spear 7/7

Looking to Meliandri for assent Salonius casts detect magic and examines the ring intently hoping to discern its properties, specifically whether it can be changed to a different user, or whether it can be made to track a lock of Meliandri's hair or some such.

"If it tracks the biggest source of Mel's, there is a lead lined room at the Academy that ought to prevent it tracking her and maybe cause it to track a lock of hair. Better if wee can shift its target to the tooth fairy, but of course neither may be possible."

Male Human Wizard 1, Init +3; Perception +7 (+5 if no Peeko); 16/16 HP, 13 AC 13 Touch 10 FF; Fort +2, Ref +3, Will +3, Splintered Spear 7/7

Missed that somehow, but yes that is pretty clear, still not sure it would be a great deal of use tracking something down though?

Charm Person does not work on fey, would need the 4th level, I think, charm monster. Comprehend languages is probably willing only? I cannot imagine it would be willing.

Male Human Wizard 1, Init +3; Perception +7 (+5 if no Peeko); 16/16 HP, 13 AC 13 Touch 10 FF; Fort +2, Ref +3, Will +3, Splintered Spear 7/7

"Both of those would require much more powerful magic than I can muster, and cost more than we have as scrolls. The charm spell I use will not work on fey, I am a relative novice as wizardry goes," Salonius says, still pondering.

"Wait! Saul don't you have a magic tracking ring? Can we change it from Meliandri to this bugger? Or maybe trick the ring by hiding Meliandri's aura and securing some of her hair or some such to this thing?"

Male Human Wizard 1, Init +3; Perception +7 (+5 if no Peeko); 16/16 HP, 13 AC 13 Touch 10 FF; Fort +2, Ref +3, Will +3, Splintered Spear 7/7

By my read arcane mark would not work on a creature. Maybe we could put a collar on it or something? Cold iron collar for the little git?

Male Human Wizard 1, Init +3; Perception +7 (+5 if no Peeko); 16/16 HP, 13 AC 13 Touch 10 FF; Fort +2, Ref +3, Will +3, Splintered Spear 7/7

If we could negate its invisibility Peeko could follow it perhaps?
