well done! Lots of progress posts.

I still had the question about where Prim's body was - is it in the house, where Sahar and Fiona are with the family? Or is it kept elsewhere? If in the house, Sahar will be trying to examine the body in the guise of helping prepare for burial - if her family hasn't already washed away the evidence.

Sahar, trusting that her companions will investigate carefully, spends her time trying to comfort the bereaved parents, listening to their stories of Primrose as a child, leading them through the rites of Sarenrae and being faithful to the priestly part of her calling.

Is Prim's body at the family home, as was customary in olden days, or is it elsewhere?

"I think watch is important. The Culprit has already removed the town's nighttime protector from the board with this move. But more than this, we need to eliminate that troublemaker, QUICKly." Sahar glances around the group. "Do you need me for anything? I would attend the family."

Sahar nods slightly in response to Eloen, then leans in to speak confidentially with the bereaved father.

"I must confer with my friends, then we will go see Primrose together and perform the rites if they have not yet been done. Please wait one monent."

She returns to the group and speaks quietly. "The girl was killed and left with evidence pointing heavily at Davben... a perfect way to remove the nighttime guardian of the village. Nonetheless, we need to take custody of the boy as much to protect him as to confine him. Perhaps in Rickan's store cellar, now that is cleansed? I think we should keep watch in Davben's place tonight, trusting the sharp eyes of our elf, perhaps. In the meantime, I will go with the father. Someone needs to investigate the murder site." She glances around at her friends. "Unless you need something from me, I must attend the family."

Sahar slides from Sharisa's back, giving her horse the little whistle that means heel. "Who calls for my oath?" she says to the crowd, winding her way through the people to the bereaved father, Sharisa's nose almost touching her left shoulder the entire way.

Standing before the man, she looks into his bloodshot eyes and removes her holy symbol, holding it in her hand as she reaches to clasp his. With the symbol of her goddess between then, she grips his hand gently. "I swear to you that I will find the truth behind your daughter's slaying and see justice done for her. I swear this upon my calling and service to the Dawnflower, no matter where the trail leads. Will this satisfy?"

If he agrees, she hangs her token of Sarenrae around her neck again and takes his arm, walking away from Rickan and Daven and her own party without a backwards glance. She leans her head close to his in confidential conversation "Now, tell me what has happened, my friend. Tell me about your daughter and what you have seen and heard. Show me."

She follows wherever he cares to lead, Sharisa always one pace behind.

Sahar sits bolt upright in the saddle. "Ya Hamaji"! she exclaims, spurring her horse until they are bodily between the villagers and the two beleaguered figures.

Without drawing a weapon, she shouts at the armoed mob, "What is this? When Lord Kalthun sent us to help you against the lawless orc tribes, he did not count on you turning into a lawless band yourselves! Whatever has happened, a lynching is not justice! For shame. Put those weapons away and use your words. Justice will be done, whatever has happened, but not if you act in hot blood."

Rapport? Um.

Sahar gives Eloen a commiserating shrug.

"We'll return with something better. The dwarf set a good table; we might be able to get something delicious from him." She turns Sharisa back in the direction of the town, waving for the others to follow.

Single move on horseback away from the cave mouth. Cue theme to "Rawhide".

She backs Sharisa several paces farther from the cave opening.

Sahar's jaw drops, and she gently prods the side of her head, to be sure it's fastened securely.

"A new era in adventuring. Talk everything to death," she remarks quietly to Sharisa.

She considers the loquacious halfling for a moment. "Could work."

Sahar shoots a speculative look at the diminutive mage. "Can you put down a few more glyphs like that? Or anyone else?" Her gaze ranges to the ranger and witch. "If we're going to leave, maybe we could protect the place even more. With mundane traps, if no magic is available."

"Seven? A nice arrangement to deplete the mage who comes with no scrolls or trigger words to disarm them."

Bah. I was going to cast detect magic and look at things with Spellcraft, but it looks like Knowledge(arcana) is needed first - trained only, and I didn't take it. Ugh. Skills!

Sahar frowns at the entryway. "Can we trigger them from a distance. Throw rocks, or alchemists fire, or... I don't know... arrows at them from a place of safety?"

She shrugs. Arcane magic. It's always trouble. Magic sanctioned by the gods, now, that's the thing.

Sahar makes a moue of disappointment. "I, for one, don't want to go in without resting and recharging - if we even go in. For me, the immediate decision is easy. Rest for the night. We know where it is now. Can anybody set an alarm on this place, so we know if someone else tries to enter?"

I don't know if the town is within a mile of this entrance for the alarm spell or if we're going to camp, but it seems like a good idea if it's possible.

Sharisa snorts and steps restlessly, uneasy at the presence of a large predator, but Sahar keeps the reins tight and pats her neck reassuringly.

Sahar picks her jaw up off the ground where it landed when Fiona recommended withdrawing rather than fighting. She blinks in some confusion.

"I was going to vote for going inside to see what is happening there, but if Fiona recommends withdrawing, it makes me doubt my own wisdom."

She addresses the awakened wolf. "Do you know which of the orc bands was half destroyed in this cave? Was it recent, or long ago? And do you have a name? I feel fairly certain it is not Wolfie, as our esteemed mage calls you."

"Step carefully," she murmurs to her horse as they proceed through the fields of underground vermin. "We don't need you breaking an ankle."

Sharisa snorts, as if dismissing the concern as ridiculous.

Horse and rider both watch the wolf's approach warily. Sahar sets her hand on her scimitar's hilt, but does not draw.

"Lysander? Is it saying something?" Sahar keeps her eyes on the wolf as she asks.

We have 2 new party clw wands from the shopping trip. Sandy also has 2 scrolls clw and 1 of cmw, which would be well used between battles like this (from party loot sheet). We need to decide who carries the 2 new wands (or 1, if Costin's runs out).

Sahar pulls Sharisa to a halt just below the two floating/flying people. Battered and bloody, she keeps her bow in hand as she bares her teeth in a snarl.

"Let you go so you can rejoin our enemies? How does that benefit us at all?" she calls up.

As the horrible bear-thing poofs out of existance, Sahar sheathes her scimitar and spurs Sharisa along Lysander's trail, drawing her bow as she does. The magical floating sword accompanies her, then follows the bear into non-being.

Did the lightning elemental have reach? There was one square between us at the start. I moved straight west 1 square to get within range of the uberbear. If so, I need to remove 7 hp.

Prepared for the boneyard after the bear's last savage attack, Sahar is surprised when none of the bear's attacks land, almost as if some strange force had misdirected its aim. But the terrible damage its teeth and claws inflicted before remains in her memory and on her person. She swiftly heals herself, so that she can stay in the saddle and keep this horror off her wounded and vulnerable companions, even if the bear hits her again. Sharisa take a prancing step to bring her mistress into attack range of the unnatural beast and Sahar hacks at it again, scimitar still glowing with its golden light, the weirdly floating scimitar doing the same.

That makes a ton of sense. Not thrilled about it, but it's nice to have an explanation.

GM: I'm also mounted, which gives a +1 elevation bonus to attacks vs normal creatures. I'm not sure about the bear, since he's large and you specified he reared up on his hind legs, so I didn't include it.

No way I'm editing the prior post. This board has me flat spooked. The original attack was similar to the first one and would have hit, but for only 2 hp of damage. This won't hit, but got 3 dmg. Either way, meh.

I've never had a post fail without me touching anything or had it make the browser go into some sort of console or coding window before. Monkeyfudger.

Sahar reels back in the saddle from the flurry of claws and teeth that tear into her, feeling the evil wrongness of the wounds. With a shout of fury, her left hand moves swiftly to touch her holy symbol and scimitar, causing her freely flowing blood to clot and the wounds begin to knit, and making the scimitar burst into a sudden glow of yellow-white light. The shining blade leaves a streak of light in the vision of anyone watching as she sweeps the scimitar viciously at the fiendish ursine.

GM already subtracted this turn's bleed damage, so starting at 7 hp.

A shimmer of divine power abruptly surrounds the warpriest as she sends the glowing scimitar of force winging towards the Sudden Bear. She readies a blow of her scimitar, but notices Kruss on the ground and two of her friends grievously injured, so she thrusts the scimitar into the air with a defiant cry, and a wash of healing energy flows over her nearby companions.

You get a +1 morale bonus to attack rolls, if you don't have a morale bonus already. That's small comfort after all that d20 hate, but it's something. I'm never complaining about my rolls again.

After allowing a few moments for introductions and friendly chatter, she leans on the counter and speaks more quietly. "We may be in the market for a few potions or selling interesting things, but we are here to ask for help. We must continue our mission in great haste - the rest of our party remained behind in Rustknoll. We are here to sell and resupply. But more to the point, Costin had a guide who served him faithfully, was experimented on by orcs, and was dying slowly and horribly. He suffered greatly in the hands of his captors, yet he did not betray Costin's hiding place. We found him barely alive. He tasked Costin with returning his hand to a friend in Freedom Town for reincarnation. It must have been arranged: no money is involved, just dropping the hand with "Ashara" and leaving."

She sighs. " We planned on detouring to return it, but it will cost a day or more away from Rustknoll. The situation is dire. Would you happen to know anyone who can be trusted to take the hand to Freedom Town and find this Ashara? I realize it is much to ask, and we would be willing to hire a courier, as long as they are reliable." She looks to Drewan to see his reaction, worry plain on her face.

Sahar laughs. "I've no doubt he knows someone." Rising from her chair, Sahar offers her hand to Marquan with polite thanks.

She then offers her hand to Costin. "Welcome to the team! Let us go sell our plunder and buy some necessities. We can stop by the catfolk's shop when we are buying, and check with him on a trustworthy messenger."

She will bow to Marquan and exit if nobody is inclined to bring up new agenda items.
