Assuming he cannot target the enemy spellcaster, since he can’t pinpoint his location, Costin will move to a defensive position behind the frontliners.

Silly stupid game D20 mapper keeps crashing on me. Everything locks up and I have to reboot it to get it to do anything again. ;P I am PRESUMING that the 'grey guy' about 100' in front of Fiona is the invisi conjurer?

"Squeaks! Seed the field! Stat!" Merlan calls out, pointing in the direction of the scary-kitty thingy.

With a squawk that all but screams 'Finally! I get to DO something!' Squeaks launches himself from his masters outlandish chapeau like a crossbow bolt.

OK< Squeaks can move 40'. Flying 'safely' far above the ground, He moves in a straight line 40' towards (whatever that thing is) straight to the left of us. 40' puts him right on top of Sahar. IF he gets to move before scary-thing, he will drop a bag of caltrops in its path, turn and come back to Merlan.

UNLESS? There is some rule allowing him to move up to double? and he can drop the bag immediately at start of his next turn?

Dropping an item is a free action, so he can double move and drop it anywhere along his path.

Awesome! So, 40' straight left puts him over Sahar, 40' more puts him 2 squares E (right) of the scary critter. He will drop the bag as a free action, and NEXT turn will hi tail it back towards the rest of us. Hopefully it will at least make it more difficult to charge and attack, even if it can still reach the group. ;P

Dropping something is. Targeting something, however, not a free action. So, there's a real risk of scatter if you're not using an action.

Sorry, work is <blecch> I just want to impede the critters direct progress. Im sure it has enough movement to go around it, just hoping to interfere with a devastating charge or anything similar. :P Dropping the bag where I indicated in its (probable) path. If it scatters, even better. (?) ;)

EDIT- unles,... nope. Dropping is a free action, but targeting is an attack action. Guess I'll take my chances. ;P

No action coming from me. Even if the caster is within medium range, Costin targeting him with a spell with such limited information on his position seems like too much cheese.

Merlan casts a spell to identify where these things are coming from, and Eloen fires an arrow at the cat, without avail. Lysander prepares for combat, but the lightning elemental flew past him, charging Fiona and her metal armour, though she uses her reach to strike it as it does. Costin shifts his position to safety, while Sahar calls on the Dawnflower for aid in combat.

Squeaks, having dropped his payload of caltrops more or less in the path of the oncoming scary critter, turns on a copper piece, and hustles back to rejoin the relative safety of his master and other companions.

That would be cheating. I have a tendency to get strings of bad rolls, so occasionally I will see what the dice roller has in store so that I know that I shouldn't bother interacting with the scene and should just wait for the rest of the party to finish the problem.

I just realized I've been forgetting to roll enlarged damage for my weapon... AoO damage should've been 2d8 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (4, 7) + 6 + 1 = 18 (so 7 more than in the post).

Fiona glances around the battlefield, taking in the various foes, and although her eyes narrow briefly at the ugly cat-thing, she refocuses her attention on the creature before her. Dodging backward a few feet to bring her polearm to bear again, she attempts to send the enemy back to its plane of origin.

Go home, zappy! (bless, power attack): 1d20 + 9 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (18) + 9 + 1 - 2 = 26
Confirm: 1d20 + 9 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (9) + 9 + 1 - 2 = 17

Technically, Fiona, with a reach weapon, you can't strike a monster within 10' of you because you're large - so you can't 5' step to get range on Mr. Zappy. You'd need to move 10' to attack, provoking. That said, your damage is more than enough to obliterate the beastie (even without the earlier hit) - so your call if you want to stick with it or change.

Merlan glances around, observing his companions motions, and the actions of the unfriendly summons. (He also keeps an side glance on the invisible summoner that he has spotted)

The tiny wizard nudges his faithful furry mount forward a few steps (15', I can ride him slowly forward and still cast yes??) so he is a little more in the center of his companions protective circle.

The Merlan grins, whispers "GOTCHA sucker!", and casts a spell.

Approximately 100 feet away or so, there is an Explosion, of glitter.
Glowing, magical glitter.

PRESUMING that I can ride Tiny a few feet forward and still cast??
(If not, he is still within range where I started, so I will cast first then) According to my calculations (and bad map counting) the invis summoner is well within my 150' Caster Level range for Glitterdust. Subject must make a Will save vs DC: 16 or be blinded, save or not he is covered in magical glowing glitter and can now be seen.:)

"Oorah!" Merlan grunts, pumping his fist and arm, slamming his elbow into his side.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you our trouble making Summoner. Now visible for your retributive pleasure!" The wizard declares cheerfully.

Then at a (not quite) panicked squawk from the fast-flying Squeaks, Merlan looks at the Electrical elemental, and then the rather large, dangerous-looking cat-on-magical-crack. Both of which are far too close for his wizardly comfort. He swallows.

"Oh. Yeah. We still have THOSE guys too,..." He adds lamely.


oops, my bad. Forgot about Spell Focus. +1 to DC of Conjuration Spells. Save vs Blindness DC is 17 ;)

Even riding forward, the range to the summoner is past what you can hit with a medium range spell -- plus, if you ride forward, Merlan is moving toward the earth elemental. So you can double move now and cast next round if you want, but I can't say what the rock will do.


Wait, the spell range is medium which is 100' plus 10' per level. (according to the spell description). The caster is within 100(ish) feet, yes? UNLESS,... Im looking at the wrong picture on the map??? :( (Entirely possible, I suppose? The only other pic I see is an orc.)(?!?) If the orc is the caster, then WHAT is the thing at the 45 degree angle to us, within 100'(ish) feet?? O-o

Im so confused. (Typical, I finally get a chance to do an actual, decent post, and mess it up) ;P

The Orc is the caster. The figure closing is the Earth elemental.

What is the action requirement for dismounting a riding dog? Move action? This SHOULD be legal(?!?)

Merlan nudges his faithful fido ahead a few paces, Looks at the orcish caster, deliberately, as if to say 'I see youuuuuuuuu', and says to his companions,...

"Don't worry, TWO can play THAT game!"

And with a chanted phrase and and magical gesture, the mighty wizard vanishes from sight,...

Game terms, DOG makes move action (15', partial move?) to get more in center of group, cast VANISH (clock is ticking, 5 rounds of invisibility), and dismounts. That should be Move action for Fido, standard aqction spell for Merlan, and move action for dismount. yes? (or Merlan dismount and then cast, doesn;t really matter)

From the middle of the group, the companions hear the halfling's disembodied voice,...

"Don't worry, Help is on the way!"

The earth elemental continues its move toward the group, and the skies darken slightly as another lightning elemental appears - though this one is smaller than the first - and rushes toward you.

The cat-thing hisses loudly, clearly displeased to have its pounce ruined, turning its claws, horns, teeth and tail on the two creatures in its way -- dropping the smaller cat and leaving Lysander staggered, unsteady of his feet.

With a ringing incantation, Sahar calls the weapon of the Dawn Star into being next to the Dread Beast before her. Floating in the air, it takes a cut at the Beast.

Spiritual Weapon Scimitar atk: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
SW dmg: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Caster Level check (if needed): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

While the divine weapon attacks, Sahar guides her mount into position to attack the creature, swinging wide of the threatening tail.

Moving 100', Sharisa's double move distance, to go around the scorpikitty with a buffer of 10' at all times, until directly approaching from the west to threaten.

The spiritual weapon attacks from my direction, so I guess it attacks from its position on the map to begin, then probably swings around next to me. PS - it is Tiny in size. AC 12 vs touch attacks.

Wow. Great dice. The GM is hogging all the double digits!

Sahar calls for the Dawnflower's aid, creating a scimitar of light, though it misses the target. Costin advances, trying to bring his spells and hexes into range.

Summary: Round 3

Merlan casts a spell and vanishes from sight, and Fiona steps back to cut down the elemental, though the creature strikes her before she sends it to its death... though it is replaced by a smaller elemental a short time later. Eloen's snap shot bounces harmlessly against the thick hide of the beast. Lysander and Kruss close with the cat-thing, ruining its plan to pounce on them, each slashing the beast -- though it takes its revenge, causing the smaller cat to collapse, and leaving Lysander standing bloody and unsteady on his feet. Sahar casts a spell to attack the cat-thing and moves to ready her own attack while Costin also closes to bring his magic to bear.

From somewhere nearby comes the magically muted voice of the Mighty Merlan, it's distorted tones are in the steady, rhythmic cadence of a summoning chant.

GAME TERMS: Squeaky makes his move to the riding dog, he is making perception checks for danger, and (as soon as he is able in game terms) will ready an action to GTFO if he or the dog are immediately threatened.

Merlan begins casting a Summon Monster spell, which will complete on his turn next round (yes?) Next round, Summoned appears and takes an action, and Merlan will begin summoning again. :)

That would be correct, yes - unless you have an ability to speed it up, summoning is a full round, so the beast appears and acts right before your next turn (at which point, you get your next turn).
