Hey folks--I am not connecting with this game as much as it deserves. It's a good-paced game that I'm just not keeping up with. So I prefer to just step out now. Perhaps Sage slinks away overnight? Good luck and happy gaming, folks!

"Finally--it's about time!" says the says the Asian gentleman, as Davin walks in. "You can call me Sage. If you want a shot at the last remaining bed, you're gonna have to roll for it." Sage gestures to a 20-sided die on the table. "Jean the dragon's got the highest roll of 14."

Sage eagerly seizes the last remaining map piece and adds it to the now complete map. He then begins to study it carefully to understand where it was trying to take them.

"Yes if there are no animals anyone can stay in the stables. Ah thank you my good friend Zaidel!" He gladly accepts and goes back to make up more dinner plates. Which Sam brings out to each of the Chosen one at a time.

Sage Li, you should suggest rolling for it!!! ;) XD

Definitely!

"I've got some dice here. Highest roll gets the bed. Deal?"
Sage takes out his bag of assorted dice, pulls out the 20-sided die, and rolls it.
1d20 ⇒ 6
Fortune reroll!
1d20 ⇒ 10
"Not impressive," he concludes, disappointed.

Ready for the stables, Sage takes one last look at the map.
Wis Check DC16, Guidance: 1d20 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 2 + 1 = 16
He doesn't see it, but he feels a gentle urging from his God. He turns the map over.

"Hey guys, take a look at the back of this map. Doesn't it look like a lemon?" Sage points out the faint shape of a lemon on the back of the map. "What does it mean?"

Sage tries to assemble the treasure map pieces together.

Int DC8: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5.

And fails quite miserably. "Hey, someone with a good sense of direction should assemble this map."

Just checking--does anything happen when Sage rolls his metal dice, or are they just ordinary dice?

Niversal looks at the treasure map after assembling it and says It's funny that you are all following these quests. I really didn't see anything like that when I came in. I would appreciate joining some of you other chosen and working with you then on these quests? What do you say?

"You and me both," interjects Sage. "Could just be a matter of asking, though. Should we try?"

Sage approaches Roland. "So, any jobs you have that need doing?" He really hopes Roland has a job that doesn't involve outhouses!

After setting his map piece on the table, Sage sees that everyone is still milling about, so he sits down at the table and decides to play with one of his new toys. He studies the metal dice to try and understand their function.

He then tries rolling the dice.
2d6 ⇒ (2, 3) = 5

GM:
That sounds sweet, thanks!

GM:
Any chance I could get a Stun Baton as a technological reward? Also, any chance I can be proficient in it, on the theory that it is like a mace?

I guess I get a random thing? 1d100

Zaidel returns inside the Pig's Roast, and spots the two new people, both bearded, kinda like himself. The satyr greets them thus:

A bearded saytr in fresh-new leather armor with a stylized kilt, and a wooden sculpture of a wyvern under his arm, walks up to both newcomers. "Hello, fellow Chosen. Good to meet you. I'm Zaidel and I'll be your cleric for the party. I worship Cayden Cailean, so don't let me catch you getting thirsty on my watch. The beautiful woman over there", the caydenite points out the woman in red, "is the Amazing Mia. She's my cohort and also mute, but incredibly intelligent and capable."

Zaidel adds his map fragment to the treasure map being formed on the table.

Drystan offers his hand to Zaidel and Mia. "Call me Sir Drystan, paladin of Ragathiel. I have read of thine Cayden. A good god, if a wild one."

[dice=Knowledge (religion)]1d20 + 7

Zaidel looked non-plussed. "Sir Drystan, it is! And I know of your patron, Ragathiel, and the long road he walked to get to where he is today. Intense! But welcome, to be sure."

"The wrath your god Ragathiel displays comes from the fires of Hell," mentions Sage. "Don't be afraid to channel that rage!"

In case you missed it, I rolled a 76 for my random reward.

Inactive

Random Reward: 1d100 ⇒ 76

Sage is amused as items seem to just pop into people's possession. "A treasure map! Let's quickly put our pieces together." He sets his piece down onto the table, inviting everyone else to do the same.

Sage soars over and finds both Drystan and Davin, landing before each of them. "Glad to find you both. There are nine of us Chosen, and the two of you are the Wayward ones. Come with me to the Tavern. It's time we take on our true quest."

I love that you're so active in your games--I'll pick up the pace!

"What's so good about being a horned goat creature?" Zaidel answered. "I never have to worry about if my shoes match my outfit. I've run faster and more freely than anytime in my life. Well. That is until I got a cursed lodestone."

"Partying alone won't save the world, but it will lessen the hardships existence puts upon the soul", the caydenite continued. "Power alone will only get you so far!"

"I will help any who wish it through The Rite of Understanding, when we have found all members of this party. Ha! See! Partying! We are partying to focus our will together to save the world. Ha!"

"Ha ha," echoes Sage mockingly. "Well, while you lessen the hardships of your goat body, I shall work with Jacen to round up the rest of our motley crew. I saw one of the Chosen at the temple complex before coming here. I'll retrieve him. Jacen, you go find the other fellow." Sage bows, putting away the golden pentagram he had used for his ritual. He then leaves from the tavern and takes to the skies once more, going in search of the one he had spoken to. Drystan--that's you!

He drops down to see the man being bathed in a holy light. Damn, too late to get a convert, he thinks. "You, golden boy. You're needed at the tavern. The Chosen assemble. Will you heed the call?"

"The forces of Good, you say? What's so good about becoming a horned goat creature? Partying won't save the world. Power will! Come and I shall perform the ritual, so that you may receive Asmodeus's blessing."

Jean drops down and lands about 15 feet in front of Sage Li and says, "Hello, I am Jean. I was recently picked as one of the Chosen. Are you another one of the Chosen?"

"Jean! Were you once human? Well, good choice on your new body. You can call me Sage. We'll be strong in the air as we battle the dangers in this land."

Sage is definitely a bit confused as a new quest comes up, and seems to need time to orient himself. But he eventually accepts and then gathers at the tavern. He finds a server.

"Rice--do you make rice here? I hope I won't be stuck eating bread all the time." He then joins the others. "Maybe I'm the seventh. You can call me Sage." Sage appears to be a middle-aged man of Asian descent, except for his owl-like wings that are presently furled.

Before the assembled crew, Sage begins to perform the "rites of understanding," a ritual. As the ritual completes, an amulet of resurrection and a potion of cure light wounds appears before him. "I serve the forces of law and order, the deity known as Asmodeus. Those who wish to join him may do so--I shall teach you the rituals and you shall receive your rewards for your service."

Sorry, been weighed down with work but I'm catching up.

GM Wolf wrote:

Bill raw power would be Kord, Hercules, Nethys, though nearly any God gives power to their faithful.

Bill nods. "Very well. Then I shall study these."

He begins to learn about the different Gods, but neither Kord nor Hercules seem at all appropriate. Nethys seems intriguing--the power of magic? He put a pin on that as he continued exploring.

And then Bill comes across something intriguing. A pentagram. Surely the sign of evil magic, no? That was what he had learned, from his previous life. And yet he sensed a bargain to be had. As he knelt before the shrine, he saw a contract materialize beside a ritual knife. He read it. A deal to trade servitude for power. While the other gods demanded grand faith for uncertain reward, here was a god that was clear. Bill certainly understood contracts, and this one seemed more than fair. Is this the path of corruption? he wonders to himself. But he pushes the thought aside. Even if there was darkness, he himself was not evil. Biting his lip as he gently pricked his index finger with the ritual knife, Bill signs. But in a different name. SAGE LI he writes in a bloody scrawl.

Bill considers his options thoughtfully. "I would like to find a mighty god--one who will give me power. If there are Dark Forces out there, then I see no more important thing than have the power to defeat them."

Aramil Cleric of Ollandra wrote:
"This is a place of shrines to the gods. No one specific god, though I might be slightly partial to Ollandra the Elven goddess of fortune. She is the Sovereign of Feast and Good Fortune. Though she can be called upon at this shrine other gods can as well, like Cayden Cailean or Demeter. Chosen all of the gods that were created in your world were inspired by them who exist here." The male elf venerated and explained to Sir Drystan.

I will try to inject myself here, hope I'm doing this right.

Suddenly finding himself with wings, Bill practices by flying through a portal to see a colorful sign and a set of large buildings. "This is amazing!" he says aloud to nobody, hardly believing what was happening. After soaring around for a bit, he decides to investigate the dome-like building that seems the most impressive. Having no idea which of the shrines would be of interest, he decides to drop in on some folks, swooping down from the air.

"Gods, you say? That's very interesting. Is it common to pray to all of them, or devote yourself to just one, as you have?" He hesitates a moment as attention is drawn to him. "Pardon--the name's Bill," he says. "Though in this new world, my name sounds awfully drab."

GM:
"Yes, I think that's right. Ahem, "I wish to have owl wings so I can fly and remain aloft."

Permanent wings, 60' movement, average maneuverability?

He then looks over the cards of fate given to him. "Yes, the power to change one's fate. That seems quite useful indeed."

GM:
"Right--I'm wishing to have an Owl's wings. And I want to have the ability of fortune-telling. There was once a fortune teller that drastically changed my life, and I want the same. They say knowledge is power, and knowledge of the future means power over that future."

I don't know if we're just picking stuff ourselves, but maybe fortune-telling can be expressed as a couple of things: (1) rerolls and (2) divination magic. For now, what do you think if I get something like the Misfortune revelation in Dual-Cursed Oracle?

"It's strange, I feel a strong pull toward one they call the Prince of Law. I don't feel like I've accomplished much with my skills in my past life, but maybe I can make a real difference in the next one."

Response to Alethia:
As he sits alone in a darkened room, Bill looks down at himself, confused. "Ugh, what just happened to me?" He feels around for the wounds that he expects to be in his body based on a car crash. Especially his head, given that he was seeing strange things. He then pinches himself, trying to see how that feels.

A few moments later, he's startled as a glowing girl appears. "Wait, is this for real?" While his wife was a devout Christian, Bill was skeptical that there would be an afterlife. And yet here he was. Although there was no God casting judgment. "Oh, so I really do get to go to heaven? Nice to see that this whole eternal damnation thing was wrong after all. Hm, what to choose . . .

Bill thinks about it for a while, before coming up with a question. "Well, I agree heaven sounds rather boring, but it's safe. What happens if I die in this other world?"

Eventually, though, he decides to go through with it. Bill always liked knowing things. "I want to be able to see the future, and hopefully change it," he says.

"And I would like to have the wisdom of the Owl. Not to mention their wings." Bill had always liked owls.

Still, doubt lurked in his mind. Did rejecting Heaven mean that he was embracing Hell? He could not seem to let go of such Church teaching as he considered what his future might be like.
