598. A complete list of people who have been killed after reading this book.

Reading any of this book casts Summon Monster 6 to Summon an Invisible Stalker, which attempts to kill the person who read it.

If it is successful in killing the reader, the reader's name will appear as the latest entry on the list.

This effect activates 1/day and only affects 1 reader at a time.

If someone who read the book survives the Invisible Stalker but dies later, their name appears as the latest entry as well.

#105: "The Smell of Burning Heir"

It's a signed, notarized document designating that whoever bears the will as one of the heirs to one of the richest man in (insert nearby city here) who died a few days ago. The death was totally natural, old age took it's toll.

At the reading, all the heirs will be told that 1 week from then, the entire fortune will be divided between those who show up at the base of (insert nearby mountain/large hill/other large land area here).

The dead man's other heirs are all people who he hated, which seems very strange to his butler (Very high Bluff or Diplomacy check to find this out. A good butler doesn't reveal secrets). The man's home is left to the butler.

After an adventure where the other heirs either try to kill the others themselves or hire mercenaries to do so, the PCs and anyone they've made peace with will be ready to hear the final will.

It's a treasure map leading to a cave with a permanent Antimagic Fieldin it. As the party goes further down, the light fades until even Darkvision doesn't work and they have to break out torches.

It's here that the treasure lies: millions of Gold Pieces worth of Alchemist's Fire and oily rags.

Unless you want everyone to die, you should establish a way for the PCs to get out, but the place should explode.

The whole thing was one last bit of revenge.

For their trouble, any other heirs the PCs either let live after their murder attempts or rescued will pay them to leave the city so they can put the whole thing in the past.

How about an ability that negates/lessens ability damage/drain with an added save?

"As the black ray of the Enervation spell tugged at her life force, (insert name here)'s smile twisted to into a snarl of rage. 'Everything that's mine is mine forever, and that includes ME!!!!' The Enervation spell failed as millions of spectral grasping hands pulled it apart and vanished back into (insert name here)'s body."

It makes sense, that greed should include keeping what she has, including her health.

Or a bonus on Will saves against mind-affecting effects or Possession.

"Zraalter hissed his approval as the SHadow Demon moved to take over the body of this creature so unworthy of her beauty. As he moved through her mind, he was confronted by a voice from all sides. 'I am me and mine is mine! Get out or gimme!!!' For the first time in his centuries of existence, Zraalter's attempt to take a body had failed. As he was forced out, he felt a ripping at his very being, and when he faced his former host, he felt diminished while she looked stronger than before."

If possessed, she could get a bonus on the Will save. If she succeeds, then she could bestow a negative level or other status condition on the possessor and gain a bonus from doing so.

What do you think? Does this work for your idea?

1. Lawful Evil
2. Devil
3. Riches and Elegance, Denial of Responsibility for One’s Own Actions, Mockery
4. Won’t You Guess It?
5. He exists because people say he does. He does nothing wrong but gets the blame. He finds this gleefully funny and is the first to say so. When someone says that the Devil made them do it, it is a prayer to Him. His deals are simple: He’ll take the blame for anything you do in exchange for your soul. For too many people, the ability to transfer the responsibility for their actions is worth that much. When you meet Him He is quite the gentleman; always pleased to meet new acquaintances, sympathetic to the problems of others, and ready to offer a deal. However, be on your best behavior if you meet him, or He’ll lay your soul to waste. His symbol is a flipping coin showing both the heads and tails side at the same time.
