I dont think they did mix up the terms, i think it kept things clear by NOT saying they CAST the prepared powers, they are saying they still manifest the powers like psionics. In fact the 8th level power allows them to ADD S,V to the power, tells me that they ALSO DONT have those when being used, unlike SPELLS that do. So you saying that the powers are silent, stilled spells in the same spell slots then? That they can start to take same powers that copy spells and just fill them in and use them like that?

Its going to be up to the DM to make a ruling in the end, but RAW it looks clear cut until a dev comes on and says "This is what we meant"

O course he has to prepared it as a spell, he is a mage, but when it is used that is where the definition should if its a spell or power.
Does he wave his hands around and speak? No 1 check vs power, can he augment the power to make it more powerful like a power Yes check vs power. Does he need material compounds NO?

If it looks like a dog but swims, quacks, and flies like a duck is it a dog or a duck? Maybe its just a really ugly duck :)

while it does say:

These powers can then be prepared as spells, taking up a spell slot for that power‘s level and can be manifested by spending the spell slot.

All through the text though say manifest not cast

Alternately, the psychic mage can expend a higher level unprepared spell slot to manifest a power he has prepared and treated the power as if the number of power points needed to manifest that higher level spell had been spent on the power.

I look at it as you write down the power in your book and prepare it in your mind using your training as a wizard, then you manifest the psionic power like psionics does using PP or converting your energies into psionic PP from the psy mage training.

looks like i dont have anyone at the levels your runing, Sark MAY be 3rd but cant say for sure, unless Maaarv 4th level PC drops down to lower for The Frostfur Captives [Levels 1-5] not in any of the tiers.

BTW i am confused about the 1st reward, looking at the other warfinders none could be bought for the std 2 PP since the costs are over 750, so how do you add enhancements to the wayfinder?

Ruin is unsure what he can do, he moves closer and readies to throw his bag if he can get a clear shot. He does add his 2nd style to his first one combining them in some strange snake/crane combo movement.

i am a monk ,what choices do i have!

Ruin moves around trying to a place where he can throw the bag at the beast, but does not want to get too close. Ruin will wait until the halfing is out of the way to throw the bag, his idea to get the beast to charge at him into the water foiled by the party all coming across.

i really dont want to get closer than i am but i got -4 to attack with a -4 for melee missile fire so not really feeling trying to throw it just yet.

"I got an idea to try to get the beast into the river, either get across the log fast or let me try to get it to charge at me!" Ruin shouts at the others across the log.

leonides you cant run through diff terrain and can only run in a straight line i think.

Ruin continues to run for the log, slowing down to try to cross the wet wood. It seems he did not slow down enough as his feet are taken out from under him he crashes face first into the log with a loud thud.

i am afraid to say i wont be much use with no missile attacks, only thrown weapons and to use them i got to get far too close for my likely.

Ruin sticks to his plan and ducks out as the group moves forward, running all the way back and hopping over the pit he looks around for the pack and any sign of the Halfling or the beast.
