Playing with these rules widens out the possibilities and makes it harder to judge difficulty, even for an experienced GM. Some builds use the extra variety to focus and some builds expand the range. Even then, they usually don't affect the core numbers of to hit and defenses on an ongoing basis. It's not about being good players or a good GM. I never meant to imply that. It's that it's hard to gauge the style of somebody you don't have much experience with. I've seen games online where the players and characters immediately got in sync with tactics and synergies. I've been in many more where the group takes several levels to mesh. I've seen games where the GM was giving clues that we were out of our league and the player's didn't catch it. This doesn't mean that one side was bad, we just didn't figure out each other's communication styles in time. I'm sure we'll figure it out. I just wanted to make sure the point was out there.

I guess we made opposite assumptions. :) my thought is that we are essentially 15% down from what a "normal" party is. 10% from level, and another 5% from less potency items. With good tactics and a little luck, we'll probably be able to handle standard encounters. but the ones intended to be challenging for an 11th level group will likely be nigh-impossible. Even with at-level items, we'll still be fighting uphill. More lower-level items probably won't affect battles that much.
Being limited to 8th level items means we don't solve the problem I brought up about being limited in level and for having a lower item bonus. In combat, rook is usually a front-liner. He's got mobility options and area control as well. He's got good thievery and trap finder. I'm not sure how much we'll need this, but better to have it.

Rook carefully takes stock of the battlefield and pauses to wait for the archer. Swift action: Inevitable strike. +24 to hit and no miss chance. 15pp

The Dark Knight picture gave an error. Obviously he pulled his usual trick of disappearing in the middle of conversation. Given that the archer appears to be difficult to spot even with his expanded perceptions, he decides to remedy this.
Swift: Teleport to South wall of cavern Move: Teleport to within 30' of predicted location This gives me not just triangulation, but I have 3x triangulation solutions. That should make it easy to pinpoint their location. Then my psicrystal will shoot a volley of crystals to point out the location. Or general area if I can't pinpoint it. Ranged attack #1: 1d20 + 26 ⇒ (17) + 26 = 43
If the archer disappears or moves without traversing the distance before my next turn I'll use an immediate action to divert teleport to send him under the magma of Droskar's crag.

Rook will pause to see if others need assistance down. If so, he will let them sit on him and fly them down. If not, he'll continue to use his nomad's step to teleport down. perception: 1d20 + 41 ⇒ (15) + 41 = 56 arcane sight, blindsight 30 ft., darkvision 60 ft., low-light vision, true seeing

No veil ability here. I've got stealth 28, not great at our level and without the adders to make it really useful. "Deception is not my Forte." he says. "But I'll scout the stairs down. Since we know trouble is coming above, we should do our planning on the move." He will check the stairs for traps, so we can continue down.
As we continue down, he will use clairvoyant sense from his third eye to look for threats coming up. This is going to be his default if it helps you plan.

Rook quickly triangulates their positions, calculating the most effective positioning, and then simply is in that place. From there he releases a 60 foot cone of mental energy. Swift action - nomad's step, teleport within 105' to get as many foes in a 60' cone as possible.

I don't have a problem with this. While it may alert them, it will imply that we care about the surface more. Krynn of the Wyred wrote: His persistent protective aegis (status, communal, +21 ac vs crit confirms) and the contingent heal effectts were already in place on everyone, as is shared training (everyone has outlook, outflank and seize the moment for 5.5 hours). If it doesn't affect this, he'll join in for camaraderie.

Rook dips in a small bow. "While I move quietly, my appearance is rather distinctive. I suspect that Putting me in a box or barrel or sack and loading me on a small cart would be the most stealthful way I could help. I've noticed that a couple of you are quite glib of tongue and could probably put many people's feelings at ease." "Since these people were taken for a reason, I suspect that they will be in the deeper levels. It's a lot of resources to spend on a slave bound for the common markets." He will begin scrying for an entrance to the underground and trying to find an inconspicuous place to teleport in nearby that entrance.

Rook will ask if Mordenkainen has a map that shows the region of Sundaraman in relation to us. He will then do a series of Clairvoyant Sense to find it. This is at-will through an item He will begin by placing a point in the air above the region. That should let him see the city for the next viewing. Then he will view the city to see if there seems to be an obvious seat of power. Somebody known as the Tyrant will usually display their strength. If possible, I will send further points within the place. I will look for places that have been shielded. If I can't get into the building at all, then I'll look for entrances - especially unexpected ones like balconies. I am noting if anybody seems to react to my sensor. When I've located some points to teleport to, I'll use autohypnosis to memorize it and gather everybody to teleport.

"If they have the resources to hide their targets from this level of magic, I would suspect that they may be hiding the prisoners on a demiplane. I suspect that either location might offer clues, but that we'll need to travel beyond to rescue them." adds Rook. And over this time, the ectoplasmic cocoon will begin to break down over the prisoner. Rook will suggest that the prisoner simply surrender and sit down. Having seen what the others can do, he suspects they won't last if they take hostile action or try to escape.

Rook turns to Mordenkainen, "Ah, it seems they were sent by Turrosh-Bolg, Leader of Sundaraman. He seems to have expected that his assassins would be scanned, as they know nothing of the reasons why they were sent here. You could use him as a messenger with a response back, or declare the high justice on behalf of the Council of Eight. My offer to him wouldn't hold, as he didn't cooperate willingly."

As quiet descends, he shapes away the ectoplasm over the prisoner's face. "You've seen what we can do. We will find out all your secrets one way or another. But if you cooperate we can get you far away from here. Even to another plane. Who do you work for and why did you attack us?" I have constant detect thoughts, DC 20. When somebody lies I get a flash of an image about what they are thinking.
