Pardon the Light of Hope for JUST a second, please.
Maybe this will help ...

When you transparently present the cause of something, maybe call them REASONS, not excuses. There is an entire world (worlds here in gaming) that will do its damndest to invalidate you: don't help it. It is okay for you to be experiencing barriers to gaming, and I am going to appreciate your candidness, as I have, every time. I know excuses when I read them; this is not that.

If you would like to know if you have let anyone down, you should totally ask. I am in no position to speak for anyone. But as a courtesy, let anyone who wants to tell you that go ahead and tell you that. In the meantime, maybe hope that your players had fun. Maybe ask if your players had fun. Math alone indicates, someone probably had fun. I for sure had fun. I stuck around because I had fun. Regarding letting me down, you would totally let me down if you didn't take care of yourself. Self-neglect is NOT fun, and I know that from extensive experience.

Facing adversity is what heroism is about, and that sir, makes you the hero here. Thank you.

The man enters the police station and proceeds into a room with two other men dressed similarly to himself. He closes the door behind him.

MINOTAR
Kythea considers for a moment. "You may be onto something, Ringbearer. But rather than randomly blasting things, I think it may be sufficient to send a signal that other travelers would recognize. My only concern is that in doing so, we may give away our advantage if they don't realize we are here."

"Truth be told, that was one of the reasons I suggested myself; while Earth of this time period does not have all that many metahumans, the universe has had Lanterns for many thousands of years. Even if it seemed odd that there would be one here and now, it isn't all that odd overall. Just a thought."

"Ring: search database for known locations of active Green Lanterns at this time."

Pausing only a moment, MINOTAR replies.

"Statement: You would probably have a better idea on how to get the attention of a of a time traveler. My suggestions are limited by my knowledge of time travel which is minor at best. If nothing else something 'obvious' hitting the news that seems unbelievable but a time traveler would recognize instantly. Or an encrypted radio burst...some thing like that."

"Is it possible that our presence is enough though? Like MIN's core energy cannot have existed in this time. There were Lantern's, but not with a ring signature like mine. The density of metahumans overall was a lot lower also. LOL do we find an empty warehouse somewhere and blast a lot of things to create energy signatures?"

Rigel takes a deep breath ... this really was like being inside of history.

What actually is the small male child playing with? Could be a fun opportunity for Rigel to use his non-ringbased psychokinesis

"I do feel compelled to ask: is there anything that we could, in fact, consider changing for the better?"

Rigel's look is quite thoughtful as he continues.

"I am aware that we just got here, but isn't it possible that there are things that we could do to not only stabilize time, but enhance the future? Should I have my ring contact the database on OA to look for information there? Should I have it plant new information there? A suggestion for a squad of Temporal Lanterns? Should we seek out the homo-magi of this time and ask them to stay in seclusion and/or send a bunch of magic commandos forward to your time?"

"Really just spitballing here but it seemed worth asking. There are actually super-people even LESS well known than we are ..."

When I sat down, SJ's post wasn't there, so Rigel's was a long version of the same. Oh well :)

Rigel smiles knowingly at SJ's comment

"Kythea, do you want to have a discussion with any of us about your work, and what it means to do that kind of work? Do you maybe want to tell my colleagues about the downside to your work? Warn them about how it might feel to be a preserver of tragedy? I think the deserve to know."

A very soft blue glow forms around Rigel's ring as he continues ...

"Hope is a power in this Universe, but it is largely a power of faith. I am lucky to have gained access to the Green Lantern Corp's database; but much of what I have learned is hard to understand. There are times when the Guardian's perception of destiny is at odds with the Will and the Hope of the Corp. It is possible we will be presented with one of those times here."

"We are NOT here to save someone, specifically, we are NOT here to save JFK. Our present and Kythea's best future depend on the foundation of their history. It could be that we unravel the single-bullet theory AND find that we have not one, but 2 shooters who we have to ENSURE are successful." Rigel pauses - "Are we ready for that?"

MINOTAR merely stands quietly to those watching. Inside, he is running calculations and triple verifying the woman’s statements. After nearly 3 minutes he finally speaks, as the others look anxiously at MINOTAR for his unusually slow response.

”Verification Complete: She is speaking the truth as she understands things. The physics involved are very convoluted and dangerous, but she is essentially correct. As far I can understand such things. Sentience is still new to me, so is time essentially… or at least how I experience it still is. But that borders on the philosophical, so I will skip that for now. Basically she is speaking the truth… as far as we can prove at the moment.”

"Then I guess we will have to run with the metaphor as presented, because I will tell you a secret: I'm not a scientist by any stretch, but I know that you cannot un-ripple a river by reaching in and removing the stone you tossed. You need to prevent the stone from being tossed in order to prevent its ripples."

The police are more than happy for you to take over. As strange as it seems, she does speak English. "Not here. There are too many people. Is there someplace that we can speak privately?"

Rigel makes a 20'x20' cube of glowing blue force, shapes a door into the facing side and says, "Step into my office? It's sound proofed, and we will ascend about 250' or so to be less observable. Gentlemen? You'll come with us?"

She pleads with the heroes as soon as she sees them. "Please, I must speak with you! It is urgent!"

"Ring, scan for a UT signature/carrier to see if we can find this alien's original language? It seems unlikely it is 'speaking' english."

to the 'woman'
"You are a long way from home this day I would think, please, be at peace. How can we help?"

"What? Green with four arms? That's a hot redhead!" Straightjacket replies to his robot buddy.

"With 'hot' being seriously subjective given how big of a Universe it is and that the disguise is female, which may or may not be attractive to all males, or all species for that matter."

Rigel smiles at his own humour ...

"Plus it seems like she chose to look that young; so she would have to be an alien: no one in their 20s has any credibility whatsoever, as I am sure we can all agree. Poor girl, guess she hasn't studied Earth all that well."

With the villains restrained, Gemstone feels safe enough to come out of hiding. "Thank you," she says to the heroes. "I never figured that writing could be so dangerous."

My wife and I are recovering reasonably well, my mother in law is staying with us, she developed Bronchitis but slowly doing well, My mom was in the hospital with covid/pneumonia and then to a step down facility. She developed other symptoms and is back in the hospital. She's stabilized and were looking at bringing her home Monday.

I have had respiratory issues and asthma every since moving to CA, bronchitis almost every year, and pneumonia once ... which just about landed me in the hospital. Have never had to take antibiotics like that before or since.

Rigel has also had enough. He wants to form a translucent blue cube of force around Auroch, hoping to contain the beast until he can be knocked out.

Hearing Rigel offer the Auroch clemency, Roy holds his place, waiting to see if the Auroch accepts the offer. If the Auroch moves towards them he will blast it Blackguard.

Roy also makes note that RIgel's ring seems to be about 3 times brighter than its normal 'active' brightness; had Rigel offered the criminal the coward's out simply to incite him to violence? Maybe Tess should add a self-help program to the hologym so everyone could manage their need to express aggression ...

Nodding as Rock confirms his scan. Roy was still getting used to the idea that when Rock's head was 'glowing' that he was literally viewing something remotely, not just using sensors.

Winking at Rock as moves from the ship towards the doors of the space station, he looks toward Tess and Rigel asking, "Do you want Rock to take the time to 'view' the station as well, or shall we use the old fashion method and just knock?"

"Well my ring can scan the station too ... but we're here, might as well 'knock'"

Yeah, a lot of this has been 'super' hard to follow. Not a lot of coordination. I sort of thought that Tess transported everyone over too, but I wasn't sure why, because we hadn't talked about anything in terms of a plan. If Rock can remote sense frm a thousand miles away, why would we go closer than that to begin with? Tess is a ship, couldn't we have progressed from a preliminary Tess scan, to a Rock scan, to a Rigel scan, or something?

Finding the computer terminal, Roy takes a quick look first at the various systems connected to the terminal, then to the terminal itself. Finding the terminal reasonably familiar, he lifts the maintenance panel and removes five of the processor cards. Tucking them in his coat pocket, he turns towards 'Rock' asking, "Should we do a visual check for crew or do you think we're good to go?"

"Possibly the computer system you just dismantled could give you a crew status, but absolutely we should check. Knowing if there are crew here, and in what state they are in will help us know what we will face next."

Just an update, I tested positive for covid Friday night, I didn't realize it made the brain mush.

It does. Lack of oxygen does that too ;)

I said this differently in a different campaign: stay in the moment RH. They need you. I wish Rigel were there with the Light of Hope.

Hearing there was an abandoned facility on a lone comet that could actually be used to do exactly what they were talking about, Roy, mouth agape, looks from Flow to Tess. "That sounds like something we should investigate." His instincts screaming he turns towards Rock trying to stay calm. "If you all don't think it's that big of a deal, I guess I could go alone." Looking towards Rigel he continues. "But it does seem to be someplace that should be secured."

"I don't mind flying out there to check things out, but I feel that we should all go investigate once we have as much information as we can get here."

"WOW. I've been in the game for a minute, but I'm not sure I thought the Photon Epoch could be summarized quite like that; frankly, it hadn't occured to me that the non-organic origin of life's elemental dependancies could be that inspiring either."

Rigel stops to think for a moment

"So then we're looking for someone with a massive terraforming project? Something that would require the elements in shortage if it were not going to create them?"

Attache floats next to the conference table as holograms of the various thefts and the results of sabotage play throughout the room.

"It really is most troubling. Things are often tense in the system, but the peace is kept more often than not."

"Team, there is something we don't have in this data; I can possibly use my ring database to find more information: I want to know who the system's external enemies are, or a galactic interest who could stand to gain from the whole system being destabilzed. I understand that each of these cultures looks at each other with distrust. Part of what I wonder is if Deadalous selected us due to having a more galactic perspective."

Chuckling at Flows comment about the ship being drier. He turns to the council, "It was pleasure, thank you for your time. When we have definitive proof, we shall have Flow contact you."

Turning towards Tess, as he waits for her to teleport them back to the ship, he asks. "Tess, when you get the information would you send it to my helmet?"

"Ring: copy the datastream and upload to your database. Correlate against preexisiting information on the system."

Rigel frowns thoughtfully

"Tess, I'm not sure we are there yet, but do we have a way to piggy-back a signal into Flow's datastream to connect to their systems and look around for anything they may NOT be telling us? My ring can't do something like that, it isn't you ..."

Once back on the ship, Tess goes back to disembodied voice mode.

"Of course I can, also there are holo projectors throughout the ship. You need only ask and I can display any crew member."

OMG this made me laugh - god I hope Tess doesn't "display" anyone when they're having a private moment!

This time, Straightjacket's grab is successful and he manages to tighten his grip around Cheshire as she struggles against Ivy's vines. MINOTAR moves Gemstone to a place of safety with the police before returning to the fray. Cheshire screams in anger and fights to get loose from the grasping vines and from Straightjacket, but she is unable to free herself. Ivy smiles to herself and turns to Gemstone, only to find her gone! Ivy growls something unintelligible and looks around to see where she may have escaped to.

The PCs are up!

Governor Endara (the blue skinned human appearing woman, actually a Lor) focuses her intense gaze on your team. She listens intently before saying, "“Hopeful friends, you have quite literally arrived under an ill omen in the stars; but your words seem true and assure me that you have our best intentions at heart." She turns to her peers, "I give them a vote of Confidence."

A heavily robed, serpent-like Haasaan with a breathing apparatus over her mouth rises before her peers. She hisses mechanically towards the heroes, “My fleet admiral met these foreigners, and she speaks of their forthrightness. I don’t like my time wasted, so I won’t waste theirs. Tell us, newcomers, what is so special about you that I should place my confidence in you to investigate our troubles?"

Rigel lights up, and hovers just above the floor in front of the Haasaan.

"Lady of the Haasaan, how nice to meet you before your promotion. Surely you will have the job of your wayward fleet adirmal post-haste, and how lovely that they mistook what was heard for forthrightness."

The Blue Lantern smiles ... a smile in no way powered by the Light of Hope

"My instincts say that you are the one who noticed I wasn't introduced .... smart catch. I would wager also that you know there is a reason for that ... there is. My name is Rigel, the name of a star far far from here, and I wield a primal emotion, Hope. While I know my colleagues know that, I'm not sure that they understand it. The same cannot be said of Deadalous. He knew exactly what I am capable of. Truth be told, he might be surprised that a conversation is taking place at all."

Rigel smiles again, but this time the glow in his eyes is stronger

"Let's outline our next steps quickly ... I would like to make sure I have good seat at the Change of Command."

Cool, Roy doesn't sleep per say, he just wants a place to put stuff he finds interesting. Do you actually have any crew in the crew quarters? Or is there just a closet he can hide stuff?

Rigel's primary interest is the fact that there's a desk there ... but he could also use the Med Bay for that (given that he's the healer)

Tess are you using the 'master bedroom' or can Roy call dibs?

Sorry for being gone the past few days. Got a pretty scary medical diagnosis last week. I've been mentally, physically, and emotionally wiped out for the past few days.

I'm still committed to this thing, but might need more patience from you for now. I'll push things forward when I'm able.

Quite a striking paralell that in Rigel's original campaign, the GM has really been struggling with the whole real life thing also. Take the time you need, bacause I'll tell you a secret: actually, these games are LIFE.

If you think for a minute that the highest grossing industry in the universe is entertainment for any other reason, you're fooling yourself. Whatever outlets of joy we all choose for ourselves are there because fun is integral to well being.

So whatever journey your wellness has just set you on, make sure your gaming is a positive part of it. We will be here for you.

If I could make a request, could we jump in to the shallow end of the pool maybe? Take stock, have some administrative time together? Look at total PP count, eval the Power Level, all that? Might help set the tone for how things move forward also :)

That said, be whole WK. Do whatever that takes.

I'm guessing that most of you are not deep fans of Freedomverse lore, so this is going to need a sizable info dump. I'm going to post that in Discussion and eventually I'll put some more info in the Campaign Info.

TBH, I very much am a fan and have read a lot. I knew about Deadalus' exodus to space and his fight to help the survivors of the Lor Republic.

Rigel, (and anyone else with opinions) let's talk about rings and Lanterns. In the Freedomverse, there is a group called Star Knights who are pretty much Green Lantern expies who wear special armor and have swords. Little dash of Jedi thrown in.

I've never been much of a fan of some parts of them. I'll still use Star Knights as the name and organization for a group of Galactic cops.

Do you want to be part of that group, a lone lantern whose ring came from another universe, a lone lantern spontaneously from this universe, something else?

You know, when I first developed Rigel, my vision of him was basically as a proto-Guardian. Like an otherwise human guy who formed a Ring & Lantern out of nothing and tapped them into the Emotional Spectrum. The principle of that could totally still work with him originally being (or still being) a Star Knight.

What's left then is figuring out the broader infrastructure that Rigel is plugging into, because while the database & communication powers aren't expensive or anything, they can be highly impactful. A plugged in GL has access to universe-wide data, but that comes from the Guardians long long presence in the galaxy.

What does Rockhead look like when he isn't a rock? Is he still stony skinned?

The man nods to Kentaurus. "One and the same, at least for the moment. Gods know I've been more than one person a few times over the years, what with magical interference, time travel, and robot simulacra, but for now I am the same Daedalus of Earth Prime and Freedom League fame. I wasn't sure if that reputation would have travelled this far."

"Like you have heard of me, I've heard of your exploits. I have some friends out in the Flegere system who are worried about their star. It is experiencing an unexpected chroma shift, and they are worried for the safety of the system. I'm involved in some other problems right now. I was thinking maybe you could head over there and check it out. I'd count it a favor, and, in the parlance of Earth, I would owe you one."

"I cannot, and probably ould not, speak for the assembled, but I have to tell you sir, it is quite an honour to meet you. My parents brought me up on stories of Old Earth and I think that is likely where my will to be a hero came from. I would be happy to check out Flegere and see what is happening in their star."

Yeah, I put in for the communication to have unlimited range, so people wouldn't need any devices for the purpose.

As I mentioned, if you think I need offense, I can modify a bit. The mind probe could probably get an add on which adds a debilitation.

People wouldn't need devices when Rock is holding his network open ... like Martian Manhunter. If someone is off on their own and wants to reach the team, they would need a way to connect with each other. In principle, they should also want a way to communicate with each other w/o a hub, right?

Clearly Rigel & Tess are gonna need to chat about some stuff without a passive 3rd party engaged ;)

Rude is a strong word ... it came across as needlessly emphatic. The reality is, Rigel was designed for another campaign, DC-Based, as a human proto-Guardian who personally tapped into the empotional lantern spectrum.

So while I get that there were some purely crunchy power similarities, which is frequently true of comics btw, there was just about ZERO plot/backstory crossover, and absolutely ZERO concern for spotlight capture, AND actually probably some awesome potential for teamups / power aggregation.
