"Let's move on. Moira, you have potion of invisibility as do I and Uldruk can turn invisible. Stigmar, stay in the barbican so you don't get noticed while we deal with the half-ogres on the roof of the gatehouse."

When the party is ready, Rhen borrows Moira's rope, gulps his potion, and moves quickly to the gatehouse, his axe slinging from his side as he spider climbs up the building (20 feet climb speed). When he reaches the top, if he is unnoticed, he secures the rope to the side of the roof and drops it down for the others to use.

Rhen grunts sarcastically as he tends to his wound, "Forget the orcs down there, Stigmar. That was just 5 orcs in here and we had surprise on them and they still managed to wound us. And you want us to take on 25 of them?! Our dwarf brother is safe for the moment and he is not in mortal danger. Let's continue to use the cover of the spectacle to move on and kill more guards without alerting the whole camp. We still have 2 potions of invisibility left. My magic to climb walls as a spider is still in effect. Moira and I could take the potions, I can climb up the gate house, drop a rope, and Moira can climb up. Then invisibly, we can take out the 3 half-ogre guards on top, while you two focus on ranged attacks. Udruk, you can pick up one of the 5 bows on the ground. Hopefully, that will give us access to rest of the keep past the gatehouse. What do you think?"

Rhen asks Uldruk to heal him with the Wand of Cure Moderate Wounds. One charge is sufficient to get him back to full under the max healing rule when we're out of combat.

Uldruk also picks up one of the orcs' bows and arrows as he has no ranged weapons.

Realizing that his dwarven brother is in danger, Rhen heads back into the barbican to get out of range of the half-ogres, whispering to Uldruk in Dwarven, "Get ready to attack...." He then positions himself invisibly near the greatest concentration of orcs armed with bows. After waiting for a few seconds, he brings his waraxe down on the nearest orc on his surprise round.

There are 4 other guards in the barbican that we've seen. Stigmar & Moira should wait outside while Uldruk and I scout invisibly inside.

Rhen will get as close to the entrance through stealth with Uldruk as possible. "Let's go." He will then drink both his potion of invisibility and spider climb and then walk up to the entrance to see if the distracted guards have dogs or other animals that can smell them.

3 minute timer is on. Rhen and Uldruk will not use stealth and will rely on +20 bonus while running/moving.

The military tactician of the party gathers the group after he and Stigmar did their initial scouting, before initiating the assault. "Uldruk, when we're sneaking up the fort to start the assault, we need sneakyness. Once the dung hits the fan, be as loud as you want. If we're going to assault the fort, we have to account for the guards on the towers and catwalks bombarding us with arrows or bolts. I think either Moira or myself have to get up there to engage them as soon as the assault starts. We have a potion of invisibility each and I have a potion of spider climb. So Moira, you want the frontal assault with the rest or go up on your own? I am fine doing either job, but one of us has to engage the archers. Let me know."

Rhen looks at the wizard, "We need to rush into their ranks immediately, to prevent calls from reinforcement and with these short legs, none of us are that fast. We need some magic to speed us up and then possibly announce our presence with ball of fire taking out the initial six guards on the bridge and anyone below them. Thoughts?"

Welcome aboard Uldruk and Moira. As for the feats, you can't use any of them in combat. We have the GM's house rule on max hit points from healing out of combat (see post above of 06/27), so stick to Plan A and don't waste 2 feats.

Other than the potion of invisibility and spider climb, which can be used for scouting purposes to determine how many enemies we're dealing with, Rhen has no other buffs.

From a military perspective, Rhen would also suggest to scope out the fort for 24 hours, to gather intelligence, determine troop movements, guard shifts, etc. to determine when the fort would be most vulnerable to penetrate or attack. Hope we did not lose Barad or Kaz.

We were provided with 4 potions of invisibility so we could walk in and snoop around and take the fort from the inside, assuming they don’t have pets with scent. Or wait until they gather up for a meeting and have Stigmar hit them with a fireball.

I didn't see the orcs running option, so completely flummoxed. I can't catch them, and while I do have a crossbow, I would have to drop my weapon, pull out the crossbow, and load it. Then next round would have to shoot, if they were still in range. I got nothing. Maybe we simply follow them and let them lead us to their base, though I was looking forward to capturing one alive and interrogating him.

Huddling up with the other dwarves, Rhen comments in a low whsiper full of anger, "First, I'm with Barad, don't like voices in my head other than my own. Second, where the hell is this evil thing? I didn't see it. Third, since it admitted it killed the orcs, we know it did so with fire, very hot fire. Do we have any protection against that? I'm down to kill it, if we can."

I vote east, but will go with the majority. My logic: we're behind the orcs and with our 20' of movement, don't think we will catch up to them, so we should grab some intel from some live orcs now.

Rhen seems lost, mumbling, "Looks like just a plant to me...." He looks around to make sure no one is watching or preparing to ambush them. "Interesting that a few orcs headed east....wherever these orcs are headed to, we need some intel. May be good to capture some of them alive so I may persuade them to reveal some details of their base, plans, etc."

Rhen curses when the rangers alert him to the scene. "Our poor brothers...at least they didn't go down with a fight, and took down a few orcs with them! Buy why'd the bastards behead them? Savages! When we find them, they will feel our vengeance!" Rhen lets his anger and frustration by chopping down on one of the orc corpses with his waraxe and cursing in Dwarvish, before calming down. He then ponders seriously, "Anyone else concerned that there were some 30+ orcs prancing around? Bottom line: can we track them?" Rhen looks to the rangers hopeful.

Rhen immediately stands at attention when Commander Silverhammer walks in, saluting him. He then lowers his hand, while he stands rigid listening to the mission. Ingrahild and Umlo? Damn! He knew of them. Good dwarves. Rhen manages to keep his control and his anger from boiling over when he learns the artifact is missing as well.

When the Commander concludes, Rhen salutes him, "Ready to go at once, sir! We will find the artifact and the fate of the missing dwarves, sir! You have my word. The Sentinels will not let you down....and when we find the parties responsible, my axe blade will run red with their blood, sir!"

Rhen smiles and ponders the wizard’s question, ”No idea, but wherever it is, I hope it’s above ground. The last 2 weeks of Darklands patrols are too monotonous for my taste. Rhen marched uniformly through the halls on his way to the All-Seeing Chamber, his footsteps striking the stone every few seconds. He couldn’t help it, he had been a soldier all his life, even training with renowned giantslayers. He saluted each member of the guard as he passed by, the military tradition ingrained in him. He stopped at the double doors, smoothed out the creases of the tunic covering his armor, checked the shine of his boots, and the weight of the waraxe on his hip. Confident that he was as spotless as he could be, he took a deep breath to relax and motioned with his head for the guards to open the double doors. He smiled at the mention of his name for a second, before replacing it with his usual serious demeanor. Then hand on weapon, he marched into the Chamber.

”On time is where I am Kaz, but I thank you for your concern.” a small smirk comes over the blonde dwarf’s face but instantly vanishes. ”Good to see you all again and without mention of any scandals. That’s a bonus!” Rhen chuckles as he walks over to the table and takes a seat, serving himself some ale and separating some nuts and fruit for himself. Typical of his OCD nature, the cup and plate are exactly 4 inches from each other. He is dressed in full combat gear, his immaculate chain shirt showing off his slim yet toned tattooed arms. Rhen was no muscle bulging dwarf a la Barad, but he got the job done. He raises a toast to his companions once they each had an ale in hand, ”Continued glory to the Sentinels! It’s an honor serving with you all.”
