Can a character benefit from two inferior ioun stones of the same variety? For example, a cracked and a flawed ioun stone for a +1 competence bonus and +1 morale bonus to attack.

That's fantastic. Thanks for the reference.

What do we do when errata completely changes an item? Do we get the gold back?

The item in question is a Courageous weapon, which I purchased for my Barbarian. The printed version is very strong, and it's basically a no-brainer for Barbarians. The June 5th errata completely removes the reason why I purchased the item and I would never spend gold on the current version.

Am I just stuck with an enchantment I no longer use? This was the +4 purchase so at this point I can't really afford any more enchantments on the weapon.

For what purpose? Is it just to blind people? Because an eversmoking bottle + goz mask is pretty good at blinding everyone else (and no amount of heightenend light spells will penetrate it)

I have a level 9 Invulnerable Rager Barbarian in PFS.
First level the stat spread was STR 20, DEX 14, CON 16, INT WIS CHA all 7. In his career he's never worn armor and I've never spent any resources on defensive features.

Feats;
Weapon Focus
Furious Focus
Power Attack
Improved Initiative
Reckless Rage
Improved Critical

Rage Powers;
Reckless Abandon
Increased Damage Reduction
Beast Totem, Lesser
Beast Totem (yes this gives AC, but it's just a requirement to get pounce)

The items that matter are the belt of giant strength a really good weapon (Vicious and Furious, in my case).

It's primary form of defense is killing the enemy before they can be a threat (high initiative and really strong hits). If that doesn't work, DR and a ton of HP have done the trick.

You can definitely have the hulking, muscled barbarian with no armor you want and still not be a glass cannon. Admittedly, the build I use is not a good idea, but he hasn't died yet.

I thinking about turning my level 9 PFS barbarian into a natural attacker, but I want to get some extra eyes on it.

Here's how it stands currently;
Human Level 9 Barbarian
STR 26

Feats;
Weapon Focus - Greatsword
Power Attack
Furious Focus
Improved Initiative (Going early is an important part of the build, as it has few defenses other than killing the enemy before they can hurt him. But I'm super willing to look at something else)
Reckless Rage
Improved Critical - Greatsword
Lunge (This character gets an extra feat through a boon. I couldn't find anything better)

Improved Initiative and Lunge can be swapped for something *really* good.

Rage Powers;
Reckless Abandon
Best Totem, Lesser
Beast Totem
Increased Damage Reduction

Items;
+1 Vicious, Furious Greatsword
Featherstep Slippers
Belt of Giant Strength +4
Cracked Pale Green Prism
Dusty Rose Prism

While raging he swings +26/+18 for 4d6+30. At 10th I pick up pounce and will buy Rhino Hide Armor.

I'm seriously considering turning him into a natural attacker. The changes I know I'd make;

Feats;
Weapon Focus for Extra Rage (Animal Fury), unless there's something better. I can always buy the Ring of Rat Fangs to get the bite attack.
Improved Critical for unknown.

Items;
+1 Vicious, Furious Greatsword for +1 Vicious, Merciful, Furious Amulet of Mighty Fists. (I have the gold saved up that I can do this).
Purchase Helm of the Mammoth Lords

So the natural attacks would be +22 for 4d6 +22 (I think. Because it'd be making multiple types of primary natural attacks they don't add 1 1/2 STR and 1 1/2 power attack).
If I made the switch right now the difference is a significantly worse single hit (+26 for 4d6 + 30 vs +25 for 4d6 + 22), but on a full attack it'd be definitely stronger (2 very strong attacks vs 4 strong attacks). Granted two of the feats are not set in stone for the natural attack version. At 11th the greatsword version is probably better, because it gets 3 attacks vs 4 slightly worse attacks.

I'm really not sure. Thoughts? Is there something I'm missing that would really make the natural attacking version much better?

Do iterative attacks affect the number of natural attacks a character can make? For example, a PC with claws and and a bite and full BAB at 6th level.

I'm checking to make sure I've everything right.
If my character had a Strength of 26, BAB +9, and Power Attack the to-hit would be +14 and the damage bonus for primary natural attacks would be 14 (secondary would be 7). Is that correct?

As I understand it secondary natural attacks add half your strength to damage, and half the power attack bonus (Primary attacks get unmodified strength and unmodified power attack).

Follow up question. The character in question would wield a greatsword and then have a bite and a gore. during a full attack action he could attack with all 4 attacks, but the bite and gore would be secondary because he is using a manufactured weapon?

According to the SRD the ring is from the Advanced Race Guide. Anything from Chapter 4 of that book is not legal, and the availability of the ring is how I was going to decide whether or not to purchase the book.
Since I don't own tthe book I can't check if the ring is in chapter 4.

1 person marked this as FAQ candidate.

Is the ring of rat fangs PFS legal?

Paladin of Baha-who?; A greatsword. The to-hit is plenty high enough, like +25/+17 (or a couple points higher) when raging.
I could increase the bonus to a +2 for the same cost, but rolling an additional 1d6 is much cooler. And turn the Vicious kickback into nonlethal damage is a big plus.

Gisher; the goal isn't necessarily to deal nonlethal damage, but to deal additional damage. The choice for me is between an elemental damage enchantment, or the Merciful weapon.

Good to know about undead and constructs (constructs are not particularly rare in PFS).
The command to turn off merciful is a standard action?

Fantastic, thanks for the replies.
I already have Furious, Courageous, and Vicious on the weapon. The choice is now between Merciful and any of the elemental damage types, and since it does't appear that any enemies are immune to nonlethal damage it's a stronger choice than, say, a flaming weapon.

Is there any really good reason not to take the merciful enchantment? Like enemies can easily ignore nonlethal damage?
I have a level 9 barbarian who already has Vicious. The extra 1d6 is great, and dealing nonlethal makes a lot of sense for the character, and taking the damage from vicious as nonlethal would really help survivability.

The Unchained Barbarian can only select rage powers from this book, roger. Can the chained Barbarian select Unchained rage powers?

Can a medium barbarian wields a large bastard sword in two hands as a martial weapon? Suffering only the -2 penalty for wielding an oversized weapon.

If I'm buying rhinohide armor, can I pay the extra to make it darkleaf cloth?

Yup. Thanks for the reminder.

I saw somewhere a table to purchase property (in this case, a ship) with prestige points. But I can't find it in the PFS guide. Anyone know where it is? Or if I'm misremembering, what I'm actually talking about?

How do you finagle dying into more gold? And what are bonekeeps?

If a PC plays on-tier, on the normal xp track, about how much gold will they have by 10th level? I'm wondering if I should save for certain items.

Use three different names. This first name is the name of the family/clan, which the DM uses for reporting. The other two names are the first names of the two twins, which they go by during the game.

When calculating the morale bonus from courageous weapon, which enhancement bonus do we use?
For example, on a courageous impact +2 greatsword is the morale bonus increased by 1 or by 2?
