Hello Paizo CS People,

It appears from my recent credit card activity that I was double-charged for this order from April 1. I have looked at my order history, and there is only a single order listed there. Would you be willing to look into it, please, and let me know what's going on? Thanks in advance!

Hello Paizo CS Ninjas,

I know this won't get a look for a couple of days, but I wanted to post this while it is still fresh in my head. I recently ordered several PDF downloads from the online store, including 0One's Bluprints Single, "Dwarven Depths: Western Mines". The problem is that this file is not showing up in my Downloads page, while the others are.

I went back to double-check and make sure I had it in my cart, and it's there, and it shows that I have purchased the PDF, but for some reason, the order is showing as "pending", rather than completed. Can you folks shed any light on the subject? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks muchly,

Readerbreeder (Alan Larkin)

The time has come.

After nearly 10 years (yikes), I finally have an FLGS with enough F and L going for it that I want to support them by funneling my game purchases through them. So while I will certainly not be leaving Pathfinder (ever), and I may indeed pick it up again in the future, the time has finally come...

I'm going though my e-mails at the end of a busy week, and there was one saying that there was a problem with processing this order. The issue causing the problem has been remedied, and you may reprocess the order at your convenience. Thanks for the heads-up, and have a great week!

I need a recommendation, folks. I have read (and greatly enjoyed) all of Dave Gross' PF novels; I liked the back-and-forth narration of Varian/Radovan (and even Arnisant for a little while), each with a distinct voice, and the growth of the characters over the different stories.

My question: what other writer/stories should I read next in the PF Tales line? Give me recommendations, and sell me on another literary Golarion adventure.

Dear Paizo CS Gurus,

I received an e-mail on Thursday telling me that there was an issue with processing this order. The problem has been rectified, and you may reprocess the order at your convenience. Assuming you are reading this on Monday, have a wonderful week...

Hello Paizo CS Gurus,

I recently received an e-mail telling me there was an issue with the payment method for this order. I recently received a new card and had not updated the information with Paizo yet. I have just remedied the problem and you may now reprocess the order at your convenience. Thanks!

I'm not entirely certain whether this belongs here or the web issues board, but since it involves a recent order, I'll try here first.

Earlier this morning I purchased several PDFs, including 0One's Blueprints - Megadungeons: Archlich's Lair. I was able to download the other files in the order with no trouble, but for some reason, I cannot get this file to download. Whenever I click on the DL link, the screen flickers for a moment, but nothing else happens. The file registers as downloaded "today" in the "last downloaded" column, but I haven't downloaded it! Help!

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks,

Readerbreeder

On Wednesday, I will GMing for the first time in a while, for a group consisting of my two oldest daughters and their respective best friends (two 17- and two 15-year-olds). When I say it's a new group, I dont' just mean it's new to me; three of the four players are new to roleplaying, and for two it will be their first RP experience ever.

I plan to run the 5e D&D Starter Set to keep it simple, and we can get straight to the play without having to spend time rolling characters. It will be my 1st time running a 5e game. Partly because of this, I don't have an ironclad grasp of the rule set yet (another reason I'm presently confining things to the Starter Set).

Partly because of the group composition, and partly because I haven't run a game in some time, I'm a little unsure of myself heading into this, so I'm asking for input from the community. Are there any suggestions/pointers/comments you would care to make? Discussion on anything from table rules to snacks to session length would be welcome. Thanks in advance, folks!

I've seen a few threads dealing with grognards and attendant topics recently, with different implied definitions; I've referred to myself as a grognard on a couple of occasions, so I'm curious:

What makes someone a grognard? Is it the game you play? Is it your attitude toward gaming, or your style of play? Is it the length of time you have been playing, or the game you started with? Is it telling other gamers to get off your lawn? Is it, as seems likely, some combination of these?

I know we aren't going to come to a consensus (we're all gamers, after all), but I'm curious as to what y'all think.

Hello, Paizo CS gurus...

On February 11, I got the e-mail saying this order was going to ship by February 20 (Volume 1 of the Giantslayer AP). On my order history, it reads as having shipped (not sure of the date). However, it is now March 18 and I have yet to receive the shipment. Is there anything that can be done?

I'd appreciate anything you can do! Thanks in advance!

I'll just leave this here, in case anyone is interested. As it says in the title, Sean K Reynolds is kickstarting Five Moons, an RPG designed by him.

From the Kickstarter page:

The goals for this game are:

* Create a book that's easy to read, understand, play, and reference, like the Pathfinder RPG Beginner Box (a product I wrote and am very proud of).

* Make characters less dependent upon their gear to survive and succeed.

* Elevate martial characters to have parity with spellcasters, but still maintain fun and distinct flavor for each class.

* Reward roleplaying, teamwork, adventuring, and social interaction instead of focusing on damage output in combat.

* Create a longer play experience in the leveling "sweet spot" (the D&D/PFRPG equivalent of level 6 to level 12).

* Allow characters to level more frequently so they don't remain exactly the same for many game sessions.

* Simplify scaling monster encounters against various character levels.

* Allow for pseudo-medieval fantasy without "realism" hindering characters.

I've heard many, many good comments about SKR as a game designer (including a thread in the Pathfinder Compatible category), and this looks like it could be a decent take on a familiar topic. Anyone else interested?

Pretty much what it says in the title... Here is the link to the article.

I know that most of us have no issue gaming with those of the female persuasion, but we are gaming as adults. I found this article interesting primarily because the experiment, if you want to call it that, used 9- to 11-year-old boys and girls, the age many of us were when we first got involved with the hobby. With nary a girl in sight. I think I was in college before I ever saw a girl at the same game I was at.

For any who might still be doubtful about the premise of the idea, I will just leave you the last line of the article itself:

Gender bias loses saving throw versus truth. Stereotype defeated. Huzzah!

As it says in the title.

Personally, I believe the proper verdict was handed down, according to the piece of law that was in front of the jury. The thing is, what this case represented to the jury and what this case represented to the masses are two entirely different things.

Also, "not guilty" is a far cry from "innocent." I believe George Zimmerman was an idiot for doing what he did that night; unfortunately (most of the time), however, it is impossible to convict someone of felony stupid. What the jury found was that, according to the self-defense laws of the state of Florida, he was not guilty of murder.

Those looking for justice for Trayvon Martin will not find it in this trial; the law and justice are two different things here. Maybe a civil suit for wrongful death?

I just came across this piece on the ENWorld website announcing the retirement of Kim Mohan.

Mohan was one of the few (now one fewer) former TSR employees who made the jump to WotC who was still around. I remember him best as Editor-in-Chief of Dragon Magazine during its first "golden era" during the mid-80's, when I couldn't get enough gaming and read the magazine cover to cover every month.

I wish him all the best in his post-professional life, and I hope he keeps gaming well into his golden years.

Is there anyone else with Mohan-related stories or information they would like to share?

Hello Paizo CS People,

I received an e-mail saying there was a problem with my bank account for this order. The problem has been corrected; feel free to reprocess the order at your convenience.

Hello Paizo CS Gurus,

I received an e-mail a couple of days ago saying that there was a problem processing this order. The issue should be resolved at this point; feel free to reprocess the order at your convenience.

I got an e-mail a couple of days ago saying that you guys were having trouble processing this order. The problem has been fixed; feel free to re-run the authorization at your convenience. Thanks!

Just a quick question about the sale -- if I pick up something from the sale, and put it in the sidecart to ship with the next subscriptions shipment, does the sale price still hold until the shipment goes out, or does the price revert after the sale ends? Thanks for the help --

Is anyone else a fan of this series of books? Jasper Fforde had me at The Eyre Affair.

I received an email pertaining to this order on January 12, due to a problem with processing the order. The problem with the account has been resolved, and you are welcome to reprocess the order.

Is there anything else I need to do on my end, or should everything work after this?

Thanks for the heads up; Paizo CS for the win!

Hello Paizo CS Minions,

I recently received the most recent volume of the Adventure Path in the mail. Unfortunately, when I pulled it out of the envelope, what I had received was not #52, Forest of Spirits, but last month's volume, #51, The Hungry Storm.

Obviously, I would really like to have the current volume; so what can be done? Do I need to send back the errant book?

Please, I need my AP fix for the month!

Edit: The other part of the order, Amazing Stories #574, arrived just fine. Thanks for your time!

In this order, I ordered several Amazing Stories back issues to be sent. Almost immediately after I hit the "place order" button (it figures), I realized that one of the issue numbers I ordered was wrong. Instead of ordering issue #561, I should have ordered issue #571.

Maybe it's just my tech mojo deserting me, but I can find no way to edit the order before it ships. The swap should not change any of the financial particulars of the order. Is this possible, or am I just going to have to live with (admittedly, my) mistake?

Thanks for any help!

I just ran across this article while surfing teh interwebz...

I know it's easy to look for something to blame rather than believe a person you know and/or care about could commit a bizarre/heinous/sad act, and I'm all for outlawing sparkly vampires, but really? Twilight made me do it? Really?

OK, I realize the suspect himself is not claiming this, but haven't we (particularly in the role-playing community) been down this road already? How hard is it to believe this guy is just a loon and acted as such?

Thoughts/comments?

In this thread there are several mentions of Gamescience dice and gamers using them for their advertised accuracy as opposed to other companies' dice. Rather than jack that thread, I decided to pose my question here.

Those who are advocates for Gamescience dice, do you know of any studies that put numbers to the company's claim of better random distribution (is that the right mathematical term)? How pronounced is the difference? Is there a different feel when using them?

I've been curious about Gamescience dice for a while now, and I know there are some who swear by them. Would you be willing to explicate your fidelity for someone who wants to know?

I recently got an e-mail pertaining to this order saying that, to my embarrassment, it had come back with "insufficient funds." I found what the problem was, but I also switched the payment method just to be safe.

My question is, will the order automatically resubmit with the new payment method, or is there some action I have to take?

I was poking around the website for Apex Magazine (a print and online fantasy/sf/horror magazine)and stumbled across this short story written by our very own James Sutter!

linky

Just thought I'd throw this out for general consumption for all to read and enjoy. As a side note, there is an insane amount of short fiction out there on teh interwebz...

OK, I'm basing this questions on a few assumptions, to wit:

1. Stan! was a founding member of The Game Mechanics, who produced some great 3e products, including sections of the City of Liberty.

2. The Game Mechanics went away before the City of Liberty was completed.

3. Stan! is now a Super Genius.

4. Super Genius Games produces 3pp material for Pathfinder.

What I am asking is (for any Super Geniuses [genii?] who may be listening, or heck, for anyone who might want to rampantly speculate), is there any chance that we may someday be able to see the City of Liberty in all its glory, possibly even with some PF extras thrown in? If there is not, that's OK, I can take it... *sniff*

Hey There Cosmo,

I have an interesting dilemma. I attempted to place an order just a few minutes ago (about 10:00 pm PST) and I can't seem to keep from bouncing between the "select payment" screen and the screen that follows immediately after. Also, whatever gremlin seems to have taken over seems reluctant to apply the "First Ten Shipping Discount" to my order.

I have left everything in the shopping cart; anything you can do would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Alan Larkin (Readerbreeder)

Just what the subject says: How does one pronounce Iomedae? I have a paladin player who needs to know so he can preach of his goddess while smiting evil...

Knowing the specific versions is important... This is Ripley after Aliens and Sarah Connor after Terminator 2.

Both walk into a locked room, only one comes out... which would it be? Discuss -- Which one of these ladies has met her match?

Incidentally, when I was in high school (once upon a time) and my friends and I were dream-casting a Dragonlance Chronicles movie, we always pegged Sigourney Weaver for the part of Kitiara. Her audition would consist of a single line from Aliens:
"Get away from her, you B*TCH!"

From EN World's news page: "Gail Gygax will appear before Lake Geneva Parks Committee regarding placement of a statue of her late husband, E. Gary Gygax in Library Park in Lake Geneva, Wi. She will be contacting individuals in the film, computer and gaming industry to help with the project. "Gary gave millions of men and woman a reason to open a book - I discussed my desire for the statue with Gary just before he passed - he was pleased. I hope I can make the project a reality."

I say, only if they trap the base of the statue! :P

OK, here goes... I hope I'm explaining this properly.

I plan on purchasing the Core Rulebook, and if I understand an e-mail I recently received, I should pre-order soon to lock down a copy shipping on the release date. My difficulty is that I was also planning on ordering several other items at the same time to take advantage of the "$10 off of $100+ orders" shipping discount. Some of these items won't release until early August, much like the Core Rulebook.

The caveat with the shipping discount is that it does not apply to pre-order items. My question is, is it possible to put pre-order items in an order, and have the full order ship after the last item is released, in order to take advantage of the shipping discount? Or will I have to place my order after all items are released, get the shipping discount, and simply wait until my number in line comes up for the Core Rulebook? Or is there a third option I haven't considered yet?

Any way it works out, thanks for your time -- I know of no other company, game or otherwise, that has an outlet to help their customers maximize their dollar like this.

I know that Paizo likely has all the publishing issues they can handle right now with the impending RPG release and the push on the Planet Stories line, but does anyone know if there are any plans (even wouldn't-it-be-nice, far in the future ones) to publish novels set in Golarion? Or maybe an eventual compilation of the serialized fiction in the Adventure Paths?

I can't be the first one to have noticed this, but I can't find anything about it in a quick look through the boards.

Taking a look at page 31 of "The Impossible Eye," area C15 (Soldier's Shrine), one finds this description:

"This massive chamber is dominated by a huge statue of an efreeti seated in the lotus position upon a dais. The statue holds a six-foot-high basin filled with roaring flames in its lap. This pyre gives the statue's snarling visage an eerie red glow and causes the flickering light to glint malignly off the jewels mounted in its eye sockets."

A perfect description of the original 1e Player's Handbook cover, minus the thief prying the gemstones from the eyes, which I assume was left for the players to do.

Thank you, Mr. Vaughan, for throwing an easter egg bonus to all us grognards while helping to move forward the next iteration of the game we all love!

I imagine these little treats are probably more common than we realize; I just happened to notice this one, the description being like stumbling across an old picture of a childhood friend (and yes, the 1e Player's Handbook holds that definition for me).

Hey Cosmo,

I received Order # 1134580 yesterday, which included a copy of Tiki Mountain, via UPS. Unfortunately, one side of the box had been staved in, and it reached to where Tiki Mountain had been placed; one side of the game box has been crushed in the middle.

Is a replacement possible, or did your stock get snapped up because the game was at heavy discount? The other items arrived intact. Thanks for taking the time --

Alan Larkin (readerbreeder on the boards)

Hey There Cosmo,

Here's one for you. Out of several PDF files I have downloaded from recent Paizo orders, I have three that refuse to unzip properly. Each time I try to unzip one of these files, the only item that actually appears afterward is a generic-looking file that my computer says takes up 0 bytes of space and does not open.

The files in question are the Pathfinder 15 PDF Chapter-by-Chapter file (the all-in-one-piece version downloaded just fine), from order #1066158, attached to my Pathfinder subscription. The other two are EN Publishing's War of the Burning Sky #12 and Goodman Games' Dungeon Crawl Classics #55, both contained in order #1076543.

I have tried downloading each of these files multiple times, and zip files from other sources have worked just fine; for this reason I am assuming that the difficulty with the files is on your end (hence the pesky e-mail).

Any help which you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Much,

Alan Larkin

[Exit lurk mode]

Since Paizo's announcement of their intention to create the PFRPG, I have been sitting out most of the hysteria that followed the announcement, lead-up, and release of 4th Edition D&D. Having had subs to both Dungeon and Dragon during the Paizo Era, I came to know Paizo as an oustanding company with quality people and, with the advent of the Pathfinder AP's, production values that blow most other companies out of the water. And so I waited to get my own copy of the rule books, hedged my bets, and figured that if I read 4th ed. and it was a total screw-up, I could still throw my full RP support behind Pathfinder.

Well, now I have finally finished reading the books, and... I like the system. It's not the final, perfect evolution of RPG's, as some would like to believe, but neither has any other system I've played been perfect, either. I does, however, put me in a position that, in my experience, has been unusual up until now: I like both 3.5 and 4e D&D.

Now, aside from the self-questioning one might imagine this causing (is this normal? Will extremists on both sides insist I set up a thread to have a flame war with myself? Will Lilith refuse to share her delicious cookies with me?), it also brings up a dilemma that I now bring to you.

Basically, I am by nature a bit of a completist, and I simply do not have the disposable income to fully support both PF and 4e D&D. I had expected to choose one over the other, but now, after being with PF long enough to fall in love with Golarion, and enjoying the 4e system, what's a body to do? Do I cherry-pick products from both lines? Do I go without food for a week each month? I realize that this post could probably have the alternate title of "An Embarassment of Riches", but.... aaargh! I want it all!

So... now what?
