Male Human (Varisian); Percept 3, Sense Motive -1; AC 20 T 13 FF 17; F 5, R 2, W -1; HP 28/28

"Vinia take the one on Torrosk's flank." Radavek move south until he reaches clear ground. Then he rounds on the skeleton in front of him.

This hammer is dynamite.

"If there were any other way I'd say close the door. As it is we have go through these things to get anywhere."

Radavek strides into the room and leaps on top of the 3' stone table.

Acrobatics: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

Or rather tries to. He slips and crashes against the side of the stone.

It's a big wide open room. Plenty of space for once.

Male Human (Varisian); Percept 3, Sense Motive -1; AC 20 T 13 FF 17; F 5, R 2, W -1; HP 28/28

Radavek taps the hammer shaft against his left palm.

"Then open it and let's see."

"The dust's not right; it's too even. We should have swirled it up in the combat." He frowns. "We've seen this before."

Male Human (Varisian); Percept 3, Sense Motive -1; AC 20 T 13 FF 17; F 5, R 2, W -1; HP 28/28

Radavek circles left around Torrosk to engage the skeleton.

Warhammer: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21 ..... damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

The warhammer spins at the skeleton's head....

Male Human (Varisian); Percept 3, Sense Motive -1; AC 20 T 13 FF 17; F 5, R 2, W -1; HP 28/28

Radavek steps back tries an empty pass with the hammer before stepping in to swing with real intent.

He smiles. "I just needed to get a feel for it."

Male Human (Varisian); Percept 3, Sense Motive -1; AC 20 T 13 FF 17; F 5, R 2, W -1; HP 28/28

Radavek steps close to a skeleton and swings his hammer up and back down at the skeleton's neck and shoulder.

Male Human (Varisian); Percept 3, Sense Motive -1; AC 20 T 13 FF 17; F 5, R 2, W -1; HP 28/28

"Torrosk, clear out so we can get down to help you."

Radavek slides onto the ladder and begins his descent.

Male Human (Varisian); Percept 3, Sense Motive -1; AC 20 T 13 FF 17; F 5, R 2, W -1; HP 28/28

Radavek grins at the jest. "BOring things more like. Let's try the trap door now."

Male Human (Varisian); Percept 3, Sense Motive -1; AC 20 T 13 FF 17; F 5, R 2, W -1; HP 28/28

Torrosk is on point now, I think.

"This must circle back to the ghoulblin room. It looks like we have to go down."

Male Human (Varisian); Percept 3, Sense Motive -1; AC 20 T 13 FF 17; F 5, R 2, W -1; HP 28/28

Radavek sheds his studded leather and tries the breastplate.

And then we're off?!

Male Human (Varisian); Percept 3, Sense Motive -1; AC 20 T 13 FF 17; F 5, R 2, W -1; HP 28/28

"Better give it to Torrosk then. He's leading against these undead. I'll grab that breastplate if nobody minds."

And so he will if no one else wants it.

Male Human (Varisian); Percept 3, Sense Motive -1; AC 20 T 13 FF 17; F 5, R 2, W -1; HP 28/28

"I guess that leaves the hammer for me. What about the armor?"

Radavek sheathes his broad curved sword and grasps the warhammer, hefts it, and takes a few experimental swings.

Male Human (Varisian); Percept 3, Sense Motive -1; AC 20 T 13 FF 17; F 5, R 2, W -1; HP 28/28

Radavek smiles. He pats his curved sword. "My uncle's gift is keen, but it skips along skeletons' bones. You're right, Ravin, something to crush them to dust might be handy."

The young Varisian bravo steps forward to examine the weapons and the shield and breastplate.

Good loot for a fighter-type here. I've got my eye on either the morning star or the warhammer. Possibly the shield and breastplate, even the scale mail. Who else can use an upgrade?

Male Human (Varisian); Percept 3, Sense Motive -1; AC 20 T 13 FF 17; F 5, R 2, W -1; HP 28/28

Radavek follows Torrosk, ready to support the half-orc if a fight lies beyond the door.

Male Human (Varisian); Percept 3, Sense Motive -1; AC 20 T 13 FF 17; F 5, R 2, W -1; HP 28/28

Radavek draws his scimitar. "Let Viniana stand on the trap door while we try the other. Her glaive can still be of use then and she'll know if anything issues from the depths."

At Jonhilda's question, the Varisian's gaze slides from the elf to the half-orc followed by a slight nod. "Ask Torrosk. He's the better warrior against these walking dead."

Male Human (Varisian); Percept 3, Sense Motive -1; AC 20 T 13 FF 17; F 5, R 2, W -1; HP 28/28

Sure why not.

1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19

Male Human (Varisian); Percept 3, Sense Motive -1; AC 20 T 13 FF 17; F 5, R 2, W -1; HP 28/28

Crellan, can you light up the rooms that we've explored until we get repositioned? I daren't move for fear of leaving everyone in the dark.

Male Human (Varisian); Percept 3, Sense Motive -1; AC 20 T 13 FF 17; F 5, R 2, W -1; HP 28/28

That's the way we came in. Looks like this is a dead end. I suggest we go back to the room at the bottom of the stairs and try the secret door to the north.

Male Human (Varisian); Percept 3, Sense Motive -1; AC 20 T 13 FF 17; F 5, R 2, W -1; HP 28/28

Sword and torch in hand. Radavek is ready.

Male Human (Varisian); Percept 3, Sense Motive -1; AC 20 T 13 FF 17; F 5, R 2, W -1; HP 28/28

"There's probably another secret door. These people are mad about them."

Search.
Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10

Male Human (Varisian); Percept 3, Sense Motive -1; AC 20 T 13 FF 17; F 5, R 2, W -1; HP 28/28

Radavek observes, "They're going to need a clean up crew down here."

He squares up to the door. "Let's see what's in here then." Sword and torch in hand he advances into the new room.

Is the first torch used up?

Male Human (Varisian); Percept 3, Sense Motive -1; AC 20 T 13 FF 17; F 5, R 2, W -1; HP 28/28

"Good enough then. Lead on."

Shall we see what those undead elves were guarding?

Male Human (Varisian); Percept 3, Sense Motive -1; AC 20 T 13 FF 17; F 5, R 2, W -1; HP 28/28

After the healing, Radavek thanks the acolyte.

He looks around at the others. "Back into the pit?"

Male Human (Varisian); Percept 3, Sense Motive -1; AC 20 T 13 FF 17; F 5, R 2, W -1; HP 28/28

"Well you've got them now. Packed like sardines and clawed like dragons." Radavek holds up an arm to show some of his wounds.

"How many rooms are down there? Just how big are those catacombs?"

Looks like we fell into one of those PbP holes where everyone is waiting for someone else to post.

Ravin shrugs at the comment, "Most cemeteries and catacombs are sanctified, I thought, which is supposed to prevent instead? Between last night's show and the lack of that magic here, I'm thinking zombies may be the least of our problems... ", then whispers a spell to try to bring his Varisian friend back to the land of the ambulatory.

Even with Ravin's magic, Radavek comes around slowly and when he wakes he cradles his arm to his side. "Thanks. Those things were tougher than I thought. Thought I'd meet Pharasma today."

He looks at the bodies on the ground beside him and at the battered half-orc.

"Think there's any chance Juriendor is still alive?"

4 hp for me. Torrosk's at half. Seems the casters are running low on spells. While I'm not a big fan of the 15 minute adventuring day, it looks like that's what we've got. I'm all for retreating topside.

Male Human (Varisian); Percept 3, Sense Motive -1; AC 20 T 13 FF 17; F 5, R 2, W -1; HP 28/28

'Uuummn'

Stable at -3 hp

Male Human (Varisian); Percept 3, Sense Motive -1; AC 20 T 13 FF 17; F 5, R 2, W -1; HP 28/28

To be honest, I didn't think they'd be able to push past me like that at the door. I thought I had them bottle-necked until BigT got into position.

Male Human (Varisian); Percept 3, Sense Motive -1; AC 20 T 13 FF 17; F 5, R 2, W -1; HP 28/28

Ouch.

Male Human (Varisian); Percept 3, Sense Motive -1; AC 20 T 13 FF 17; F 5, R 2, W -1; HP 28/28

Surrounded on three sides, Radavek begins to panic. His attacks take on a desperate strength as he hews at the wounded creature before him.

Scimitar, rage: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 5 + 2 = 19 .... damage: 1d6 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 + 2 = 10

5 rounds of rage remaining; 4 temp hp; -2 to AC

Male Human (Varisian); Percept 3, Sense Motive -1; AC 20 T 13 FF 17; F 5, R 2, W -1; HP 28/28

Cool. Then the AoO ...

As the creature pushes past Radavek toward Jonhilda, the Varisianck flips a quick backhanded cut at it.

Scimitar: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6 .... damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

Awesome.

Male Human (Varisian); Percept 3, Sense Motive -1; AC 20 T 13 FF 17; F 5, R 2, W -1; HP 28/28

Now I'm a little confused. I rolled the readied attack in my last post. Your post implies the zombie struck me first and says nothing about my attack. Did that one hit? Did the attack not come off for some reason?

Male Human (Varisian); Percept 3, Sense Motive -1; AC 20 T 13 FF 17; F 5, R 2, W -1; HP 28/28

"Torrosk, here! You others back out!" Radavek swings his scimitar back and holds it ready to strike.

Ready action to attack when one comes in reach.

Scimitar: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23 .... damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Scimitar, crit confirm: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19 .... damage: 1d6 ⇒ 2

I'll hold the door one round so we can rearrange. Get Torrosk in this room and everyone else in the previous room. Then I'll step out of the way and we can use the door to gate these things. Sound good?

Male Human (Varisian); Percept 3, Sense Motive -1; AC 20 T 13 FF 17; F 5, R 2, W -1; HP 28/28

Ha! I've got to stay centered in the new room or someone gets lost in darkness.

Despite the trap, Radavek keeps pushing forward.

Viniana Alteresa wrote:
Realizing what just happened, Viniana asks, "Are you alright Radavek? Do you need some assistance?"

Radavek looks at Viniana; a small smile. "No thanks. I'm fine."

But he starts to shake his hand.

"Looks like a dead end."

But why would one trap an empty dead end room?

Male Human (Varisian); Percept 3, Sense Motive -1; AC 20 T 13 FF 17; F 5, R 2, W -1; HP 28/28

Radavek drops the torch and staggers back holding his hand to his chest. "The door bites!" He quickly scoops the torch back up and drives the butt end into the door to push it farther open.

Is that a door across the way? Are the walls down here built up or cut into the rock?

Male Human (Varisian); Percept 3, Sense Motive -1; AC 20 T 13 FF 17; F 5, R 2, W -1; HP 28/28

Radavek waits for the others before pushing through the closet and opening the next door.

Male Human (Varisian); Percept 3, Sense Motive -1; AC 20 T 13 FF 17; F 5, R 2, W -1; HP 28/28

Radavek transfers his sword to his torch hand, opens the door and quickly regrips his sword.

Lost track and thought Rad was going through that west door in my last post.

Male Human (Varisian); Percept 3, Sense Motive -1; AC 20 T 13 FF 17; F 5, R 2, W -1; HP 28/28

Keeping his scimitar naked in his right hand, Radavek thrusts his torch into the room and follows behind it.

He has little interest in the furnishings. He's looking for threats, Juriendor, and doors.

Male Human (Varisian); Percept 3, Sense Motive -1; AC 20 T 13 FF 17; F 5, R 2, W -1; HP 28/28

"South. Because left to themselves things always go south."

Radavek smiles.

Male Human (Varisian); Percept 3, Sense Motive -1; AC 20 T 13 FF 17; F 5, R 2, W -1; HP 28/28

I'd vote for spellcraft!

But Crellan seems to be giving this for free, and he's DM. So whatever he says goes in my book.

Male Human (Varisian); Percept 3, Sense Motive -1; AC 20 T 13 FF 17; F 5, R 2, W -1; HP 28/28

Radavek steps over his ghoulblin and into the room beyond. As he crosses the threshold he looks up at the ceiling. Then he scans the room.

"Plenty of work for the priests to clean up."

Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5 Obviously he's still a little fatigued from his rage.

Male Human (Varisian); Percept 3, Sense Motive -1; AC 20 T 13 FF 17; F 5, R 2, W -1; HP 28/28

Radavek kind of sags, but he looks at Torrosk and the others with a wide smile. He kicks his corpse.

"These died easily. I hope there are no worse horrors down here."

So what's behind the doors?

Male Human (Varisian); Percept 3, Sense Motive -1; AC 20 T 13 FF 17; F 5, R 2, W -1; HP 28/28

"So kill them then?!"

A panicked Radavek sweeps his torch at the ghoublin and follows it with his scimitar. Hoping that holds the creature back he stumbles backwards himself.

Scimitar v ghoulblin, rage: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15 .... damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

Torch for fluff. AC drops to 14. 6 of 7 rage rounds remaining. Moved 5' left on gameboard. I hope this thing steps into a wall of AoO.

Male Human (Varisian); Percept 3, Sense Motive -1; AC 20 T 13 FF 17; F 5, R 2, W -1; HP 28/28

Radavek draws his sword and tries to stand between the creature and the rest of the party.

"Stay there!" he shouts at the creature.

Should have had my sword in hand!

Male Human (Varisian); Percept 3, Sense Motive -1; AC 20 T 13 FF 17; F 5, R 2, W -1; HP 28/28

"Why use secret doors down here? Surely only the initiated would come here."

Just secret passages out of here, no regular doors? Which way points to where the shard fell through the floor?

Male Human (Varisian); Percept 3, Sense Motive -1; AC 20 T 13 FF 17; F 5, R 2, W -1; HP 28/28

When I asked which way, I meant below ground. I should have specified. Mostly I didn't want to get to the bottom of the stairs and go the wrong way.

Radavek's gaze slides over the room's furnishings as he looks for doors.

Male Human (Varisian); Percept 3, Sense Motive -1; AC 20 T 13 FF 17; F 5, R 2, W -1; HP 28/28

Radavek follows Viniana and listens keenly while she talks about her work, but his eyes flit back and forth between the books and paintings and the woman herself.

"Wow! This painting is really nice."

When she disappears behind her screen, he wants to say something about her, but most of the others wouldn't appreciate it and Finn is dead. Torrosk's half human. I wonder if he likes human women. Hmm. maybe I don't want to stir that pot.

***
Radavek gathers his gear together near the entrance to the crypts and begins sorting through it. Probably crowded down there. I'll be lucky if I can swing my sword.

We shouldn't be down there too long. Rad will leave his pack and lance behind. He will take the pint of oil, flint and steel, and 3 torches. He's got 7 more if anyone needs one.

Male Human (Varisian); Percept 3, Sense Motive -1; AC 20 T 13 FF 17; F 5, R 2, W -1; HP 28/28

Radavek intones solemnly, "If a man can't face his wife's father and brothers, he doesn't deserve her."

Then he breaks into a grin. "It seemed like an easy way to make some gold and buy a new horse. Instead it's become a great adventure. I might never have come this way, never seen this road."

He's just as quickly serious again. "Although this situation seems rather dire."
