QNetic focuses his energy into his blast and calculates an accurate attack vector. (Dex +3, Str Based KBlast 6R) Taking aim, he shoots at one of the fleeing vehicles other than the one Straightjacket leapt for. "Take them down hard!" he says. Blast 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19 Toughness vs 23 (15+2Str+6 Ranks)
"A bit of both, I think. Isikos, Ghost, when you hear the sounds of battle, see if you can get to the command center of that ship. The rest of us will hit them loud and hard, give you some cover for the covert operation. Straightjacket, Minotar, Hydronaut, and I will see what their defenses are like. The two of you see if you can find a way to disable the ship. their commanders, the communications, or anything else vital. If you can't find a way to do that, at least learn what you can. If you're overwhelmed, you both have a way to retreat on your own and we'll meet back at HQ. As for us, if we can't beat down these aliens, there's little chance for anyone in the city. Let's go whup some alien tail." QNetic grins.
"I wouldn't be surprised if the League is already aware, nor if they were busy elsewhere if this is global. Contact them, but we need to be ready for this to be just us, if it comes down to that. Go in hot and get us down, Min." Qnetic squints at the ship in the distance, a grim look of determination overcoming him.
"Gimme a sec to listen while you focus on landing the Javelin." QNetic attempts to make the adjustment that lets him think incredibly quickly and the sets to identifying any common sounds to see if translation is possible. Technology roll to access mental quickness. 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (18) + 11 = 29 Jack of all trades Expertise (Linguistics) attempt, taking 20 20 + 9 = 29 (possibly +5 for Eidetic Memory if that would help)
Bring us in close to the nearest one, and let's find out what we're dealing with. If four have landed outside the city, they might be trying to set up a perimeter. We should disrupt that." Qnetic says, following through with a note to Straightjacket ["So far, sure. Let's keep it that way, working together/ Anyone heard from Isikos yet?" I don't like not tackling the ones in the city, but we need to find out what's going on. If they're trying to isolate the city, we gotta stop that. I hope the cops can handle or delay the ones inside.
"Right. You're on of them unfriendly type ghosts. Got it." Q smiles. Then, he turns towards the serious. "Sounds like we're in agreement, for now anyway. I'd like you all to give me a schedule of your outside commitments so I can start setting up a duty roster, for monitoring, patrols, and the like. If you have routine patrols of specific neighborhoods, where you have contacts, that sort of thing, I'd like those as well. Might as well coordinate those, find any overlaps or redundancies we can reduce. If you're not already patrolling, get ready to get your beaks wet. I know some of you are still feeling out your capabilities, and we should set up individual and teamwork training schedules too."
"While that may sound good on paper, Casper, I think you'll find that it leads to confusion in the field, where it'll likely cause the type of disaster we can't recover from. A good command structure saves lives. Mind, being able to replace someone who's not working out is important too. Why don't we see how I do, and if someone else wants to step up later, we'll cross that bridge before burning it, eh?" QNetic gives his odd smile.
QNetic taps his forehead. "Right, capabilities. Well, my brain chemistry has been significantly altered by an accident that also did major damage to my body. With a bit of help, I've managed to 'Six Million Dollar Man' myself. Faster, stronger, tougher. System limitations keep me from doing all of it at once, as I've got to balance energy output. My brain's been cranked up to 11, and given a moment to concentrate, I can do a couple million calculations per second. Which is how I was able to turn my kinetic blaster into a kinetic negation field and slow the plane's descent. Oh, and I'm slightly rich. From my understanding of Batman, that's a super power now."
"Right. Seems like a good plan, all in all. These kids seem alright, and the 'Tarbot is pretty handy as well." he blushes a bit at Hydronaut's fanboy towards WW. Not that he didn't also feel it, but, really, kid? "I got plenty of free time, so we should probably switch it up, Minotar. Probably a good idea that the others spend a few hours a day on the monitors too, though. They should be used to their workings. Plus, both of us have systems that could become compromised under the higher levels of technical genius." "Anyhoo, I go by QNetic in case any of you didn't catch it during the prelims, but you can call me Wil."
QNetic blinks and sputters, his arm rising almost of its own accord as his systems move power to his blast. He unleashes the full fury of his blast against the decidedly not innocent kid. re-routing neural map to compensate for damages. the systems inform his still off-kilter brain. Attack 1d20 + 4 - 2 ⇒ (16) + 4 - 2 = 18
"Wu di ewe u?"
"Thank you. My name is QNetic, and although we are not yet affiliated with each other or with any other group, it seems each of us was able to help out in some way or another. As to the two fires being related, with proper authorization, that is something we may investigate, but any suspected correlation is mere speculation at this time. Thank you again for your time and service to our community. I think we should be speaking with the authorities now, so excuse us." Q lays on his best smile, which is made at least somewhat creepier by the grafted flesh and chemically burned scars.
Yes, thanks. I was misremembering the part about spending a Hero/Victory point to avoid the Fatigue and thinking you needed to spend one to use Extra Effort. QNetic will use Extra effort to gain an extra standard action to pick up the cats and then use move-by to pick up the woman during his move to bust out the superheroics.
"You gotta be frickin kidding me." Q imagines shrugging and jumping out the window. Sighing, he instead looks for the cat, speeding up his mental facilities in order to calculate exactly how much time he has to clear the building before giving up the search. Technology 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (17) + 11 = 28 vs DC 13 to activate mental quickness.
Qnetic shifts his energy around- a bit of strength and agility, with a bit of regen, and tries to kick the door in. 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13 "Darn, wrong angle. Good thing no one's around to see this." 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15 "Damn, what's this door made of? Nth Metal?" 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
QNetic backs up a bit, and pumping his energy into added strength, does a running jump (routine running jump 21' at full strength) leaping the distance. The flames didn't bother him, but the smoke was obnoxious. Fortitude 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24 You said the smoke was Rank 18- did you perhaps mean DC?
QNetic gathers his energy, redistributes it, and runs the gap in seconds. He doesn't particularly worry about the fire; it would have to be pretty hot to damage him, after all. No sense being stupid, though. The smoke could kill him, and he would need strength and reflexes to deal with whatever was in the building. He distributes his power: Enh Str 2, Enh Dex 2, Enh Agi 2, Regen 6) and does his best to hold his breath, entering the building.
Q checks out the wing and the rest of the plane's exterior before following on MINOTAR's suggestion and checking out the onboard recording and computer. Investigation to activate Postcognition DC 15 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19 Technology to interface with/download black box and flight data 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 31 "I think I've got a pretty good grasp on the data." Technology check for Mental Quickness to analyze everything lickity split. Technology DC 13 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (12) + 11 = 23
"Name's QNetic, and despite that, I'm no telekinetic. Recalibrating my kinetic blaster to emit waves of inertial energy at the correct frequencies necessary to slow the plane without tearing it apart took quite a bit of calculating. I may have finagled a variable or two. " Q smiles at the cat woman on the wing. "Once we're sure the people inside the plane are ok, I'll take a look- with police permission, of course- although it's likely to become a Federal investigation since an aircraft was involved. So maybe, before." He moves up to the plane, assisting the evacuation as best he can without freaking people out more than they already are.
Let's see. I can't actually cancel its forward momentum completely, or it'll just drop. have to create waves of increasing resistance it can ride in on, slowing it more and more. I'll need some mental speed to get this done. Technology roll to activate Mental Quickness 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (4) + 11 = 15 Good thing it's a low DC! Calculations: Science 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19 Hopefully that's good enough. Hero Point for power stunt: Momentum Drain (Broad Drain 4 (DC 14 Fort):Movement Effects), Affects objects only; Perception Range) QNetic begins sending out pulses towards the plane. Hopefully it will allow the pilots time to land safely.
"Attenion, citizens! This area is the most likely arrival location of that!" QNetic's voice booms. "Begin an orderly exodus." QNetic then looks for anything he can use to cushion the plane's landing in the immediate vicinity. If he doesn't see anything, he instead uses his enhanced mental speed to calculate precise timing, frequency and angle to try to modify his kinetic blast to cushion the plane's arrival without tearing it to pieces. (Essentially using s hero point to gain an one-time alt/power stunt that will work to nullify the plane's kinetic energy)
Well, crap. I can't fly. Let's do some calculations here. Q calculated the angle of impact and speed to determine the most likely trajectory of the crash, looking for any way to minimize the impact. Making billions of calculations, he ran to the most likely crash site, dumping the energy from his speed to boost his strength to its maximum potential. Superman made it look so easy....
Q sped around the city, his mind racing even faster than his feet. As he patrolled for opportunities to help the citizens of his new home, he analyzed the trends in the stock market, consolidated crime statistics, worked out a few hundred Sudoku puzzles from a book he had flipped through before his run, and continued planning out the schematics for his next upgrades.
