Oh, missed the duration bit, right. Such a weirdly written spell, though; it doesn't actually say it blesses defenders of the city. It just makes sense that it would. Bizarre.

"Praise the gods," Svetlana said, trying not to cry into her bowl of stew as she wipes tears away. "I don't believe their camp is too close, since they always seem tired and eager to ride back when they come in the morning. It could buy us a few days' safety, and by then the guards should hopefully arrive.

"The one leading them is a coarse, rude man in a cloak. He seems to carry only a bow. The woman hasn't returned in the past few months, since she made her message quite clearly. He wears entirely green. The others just wear their leather armor, and threaten me with their swords before their bows. That's all I know; I'm much too afraid to ever deal with them more than I must. Last time they came there were only six. Eight the month before. THey don't believe us a thread, so I wouldn't be surprised if there were even fewer this time."

The map of the trading post is up for you to plan with, at the top of the page. A3 is the stables, A4 is the storehouse for all the goods.

Before it's clear that you seem willing to help, Oleg slams his hand down on the table, earning an angry glare from his wife. He grumbles and stuffs his face with a piece of bread to keep quiet as Svetlana turns back toward you with a pleading look on her face.

"Thank you so much," she said, closing her eyes and tryign not to cry over her bowl of stew. "We were told that defenders were coming, and adventurers likely soon after them, but we hoped you were the ones come to defend us, as tomorrow is when they return again.

"The bandits first visited three months ago, threatening to burn down the camp if we didn't agree to hand over all our furs from the past month. Most of our trade comes from hunters and trappers, you see. Since then, they've returned twice, always within an hour of sunrise on the first of the month. The first time, there were a dozen of them; ten thugs led by a cloaked man with a bow, and a woman carrying to small hatchets. She did all the talking, and said such horrible things to me. She nearly cut off Oleg's right hand just to prove a point. But on the otherr visits, it's only been the crude, hooded man, and a smaller detachment of bandits. He knows we're unguarded.

"We've been asking for weeks, having trappers heading back to Restov appeal for aid. We thought you may have been the promised group of guards, because tomorrow is the first of the month, and we can't continue to pay these 'taxes' to the bandits. Please, help us run them off. If your mission is to clear the Greenbelt of bandits, then please, begin here. We can offer you room and board for night free of charge."

I don't even see what the purpose of Blessing of the Watch would be as a spell? Like, it's just Bless but with restrictions and no apparent benefits.

Also no it would not work, as there is no city watch to have a jurisdiction.

Sorry about the wait; vet problems yesterday.

As it becomes clear that you were not the guards they were expecting, Oleg slams his fist down on the table, shaking it and making the metal cutlery clatter noisily against their bowls. Svetlana glares at him, and he quiets down, brusquely grabbing a piece of bread and grumbling lowly into it.

"W-we assumed you were the promised defenses from Restov, they were due in a few days, but... Oh gods. Tomorrow is the day they come again. Some of you seem willing to help. It's clear you are the adventurers and not the guards, but we implore you, please help us. We can offer you free board for the night if you'll protect us in the morning."

She waits to see if there are any willing to help before she goes into the explanation of her troubles.

"The bandits first visited three months ago, threatening to burn down the camp if we didn't agree to hand over all our furs from the past month. Most of our trade comes from hunters and trappers, you see. Since then, they've returned twice, always within an hour of sunrise on the first of the month. Sorry, guys. Vet emergency yesterday, I didn't have time to come and keep pace. Glad you all took the initiative and started interacting without me, though.

As you talk, Svetlana urges you as polite into the house as she can, making a few gestures toward her husband as the last of you comes in. He grumbles and follows soon after behind you, not seemingly very fond of having guests. At the table, she sets hearty bowls of thick, still steaming stew before you, alongside glasses of wine and a plate topped heavily with bread. "Enjoy yourselves, please," she implores as she sits down herself for the proper beginning of dinner. "You've come to aid us, and for that, you deserve our greatest hospitality. We've waited many weeks for the guards from Brevoy, and despite my husband's quiet, he too is grateful for having protectors. Just in time, too; we feared you wouldn't arrive until after they'd already come"

You're uncertain what she's talking about, as Oleg's Trading Post was only mentioned to you as a reference point for how far you could travel.

Alayi:
You've heard words about another group in passing. The centaurs of the Nomen Heights have always been trouble, and in an attempt at a show of force, the swordlords sent a group of mercenaries led by one of their own, a low-ranking but eager-to-impress swordlord named Maegar Varn to establish a town and make peace with the Nomen centaurs.

Xelani:
The modesty of the former keeps leads you to believe it was never a hold for anybody of importance. Likely just a border watch keep left to rot. They have done an excellent job of repairing the structure piece by piece; the fixes across the house and the stables and the walls are all rather obvious for how much they stand out against the time-worn original parts, but it all looks remarkably sturdy.

You're aware of the others' presence, but you have not yet met them.

The rapidfire arrivals startle Svetlana a little, and she greets each of you one at a time, patiently going through the group. "I am Svetlana Leveton," she says. "The man on the roof is my husband, Oleg. Please, come in, dinner will be soon. We have been waiting for you." A soft smile toward Linora and Avery is accompanied by a wave of her hand. "Let's not talk business so soon, the sun is not yet down and your bellies are not yet full."

Numalar:
The fortress is fairly small and simple, unlikely to ever have been the hold of anyone of importance. Likely just a border keep meant to watch for bandits coming up from the Greenbelt.

The man climbs down from the roof as his wife waves toward him. He takes the horse and mule to the stable, tying them up. He doesn't seem too happy about the guests, but doesn't say anything.

Svetlana ushers you into the house, setting you all down at the table. She pours wine and sets bowls of hearty, hot stew in front of you all. She then takes her own seat, and Oleg follows soon after, silently taking his place and beginning to eat. "All of you have mentioned protecting the land; and now you, Karsh, ask where to start. I'm beginning to wonder why you were sent here. Were you not told of my and Oleg's bandit problems?"

You weren't.

Whoops, my familiarity with the Golarion calendar is crap; the charters were signed on the 24th of Calistril, so at the very back end of the winter. As for the other chartered groups, those'll require their own Knowledge (Local) checks. And yeah, go for it; I was going to be posting the region map once I've edited it a bit to remove information, but only for once you're getting ready to depart from the post.

"Svetlana," she answers softly, leading Karsh to the dining room. She sets him down by the table, pouring a small bit of wine for him and placing it before him, along with a plate with some sliced bread. "It's not much, but I consider it impolite to begin dinner until everybody has arrived." She nods politely at the remark about taming the land, but then excuses herself to return outside a little more hurriedly than she'd seemed up to that point.

Rufus:
You heard talk while your charter was being signed of one of the other groups sent by the swordlords to explore and settle the Stolen Lands. The swordlords sent a relatively experienced band of adventurers known as the Iron Wraiths into the Glenebon Uplands, charging them with purging the hills of the Tiger Lord barbarians and, eventually, to make diplomatic contact with Pitax to work out border issues.

"Only a few months," Svetlana says as she pours a bit of wine and sets it on front of you beside a plate with some sliced bread, hoping it will tide you over until the others have arrived, considering it greatly impolite to begin dinner without everyone present. "It took quite some time to make this place into home, but now that it's almost finished, I think we'll be set for when the winter comes."

You're arriving separately. If anyone wishes to tie their backstories in and have known each other prior they certainly may, but you are meeting as a group for the first time at the trading post.

Yeah, I put "each" in there because you're coming together sort of bit by bit, across maybe an hour or so.

You do not continue to gain Domain spell slots. I say this because the Dragon Disciple prestige class specifically notes advancement of the Draconic bloodline abilities in an ability other than spellcasting advancement, and includes the bonus spells known under it.

You do indeed know about the other three chartered groups, and a successful Knowledge (Local) roll will tell you about one of them.

Gameplay thread is now live. You can make any last-minute changes to your character before your first in character post (such as Linora's drawback).

@Numalar: I'm fine with reflavoured/renamed Performances when it doesn't have any mechanical impact, if you feel like going for a specific tone. Unless you intend to dip into bard or anything of the like, I'll allow you to call it Storytelling. If you do intend to do something with it other than the occasional job roll, it would have to become Oratory. Oratory would fall under storytelling though; it's one of those open performance types with a lot of wiggle room.

And I believe (waking up, so not 100% sure) that abilities that modify spells modify SLAs, so let's go with yes.

Gameplay thread is now live. Remember, any last-mintue changes in spell selections/skills/etc. have to be made before your first in-character post.

@Rufus: I will allow you to sub Versatile Perfromance-keyed skills for requirements, since it would kind of ruin the purpose of the ability right anyway.

@Castor: This is definitely a very traps-light campaign compared to the others. We also only ever had one Rogue application.

Be it so known that the bearer of this charter has been charged by the Swordlords of Restov, acting upon the greater good and authority vented within them by the office of the Regent of the Dragonscale Throne, has granted the right of exploration and travel within the wilderness region known as the Greenbelt. Exploration should be limited to an area no further than thirty-six miles east and west and sixty miles south of Oleg's Trading Post. The carrier of this charter should also strive against banditry and other unlawful behavior to be encountered. The punishment for unrepentant banditry remains, as always, execution by sword or rope. So witnessed on this 24th day of Talistril, under the watchful eye of the Lordship of Restov and authority granted by Lord Noleski Surtova, current Regent of the Dragonscale Throne.

As you hold firmly onto these charters, likely the most important writ any of you have ever held, you make your way to the southern edge of Rostland--and thus Brevoy--practically a spitting distance from the Narlmarches a few miles away. There sits a trading post, the reference point for your deed, and some of you wonder why anyone would erect a trading post in such an isolated place, so close to land few ever dared to tread. It's a simple post, built sturdily from the crumbled ruins of an old fortress, sticking out in the slowly encroaching greenery like a sore thumb.

As each of you arrive, a middle-aged woman greets you warmly, introducing herself as Svetlana and ushering you one by one into her home, making small talk and promising that a hearty meal awaits you. A man just as old stands on the roof, hammer in hand and nails in his mouth, only giving small glances toward you every now and again.

Go for it, Rufus. It's too late for me to feel like writing up the intro post, but by all means, you can do a thing.

It was only a tiny bit because of the librarian thing; I would have made the joke even if you weren't

Oh no, she actually has to touch it. Might want to give her a really thick glove for that.

I'm not picky on the matter of spellbook pages, though. Seems like more useless bookkeeping to me.

That's what spell component pouches are for, Ansha. You get one of those and your sticks of butter and individual bat turds are all just arbitrarily there.

I am EST and keep the most frantic and bizarre hours imaginable so I'll be all over the place.

Karsh would be the best recipient of it, or Calinthas in a pinch. The best use for Enlarge Person would usually be on yourself if you're going into Dragon Disciple, but you're going full blaster instead of gish, so even the strength boosts won't put you into a good position there.

Answered the PMs that both of you sent me with questions. Hope they were answered to your satisfaction. Let's leave the questions for this thread from now on though so others can see them; in particular, that off-slot enchantments, magic creation feats, leadership, and custom magic items are all on the table.

Calinthas, your class/level box is actually perfect, and I'd like for everyone to plug their information in there as well. It's a huge convenience boon for me.

Food I really only care about when you're away from the ability to get more food; when you're several days out in the wild, you'd better believe your rations are going down. Ammo is always tracked. Generally though it's a bit easier to stock up given I don't care about encumbrance.

Yes, those assumptions are all correct, Castor.

This wasn't a very easy decision to make, and even with two tables I still had to reject quite a few profiles I liked, but I ultimately decided to go with the following:

Party 1:
-Ansha Saeralyn, Elf Wizard (Manipulator)
-Avery Starr, Human Cleric of Uskyreia
-Calinthas Aldimay, Half-Elf Bard (Arcane Duelist)
-Karsh Shieldborn, Dwarven Warpriest of Abadar
-Linora Avedra, Human Cavalier (Daring Champion)
-Numalar Auritonius, Gnome Sorceror (Ramziran Priest, Draconic Bloodline)

Party 2:
-Alayini Eraya, Ifrit Bard (Dervish Dancer)
-Arawn Vasska, Human Sorceror (Maestro Bloodline)
-Castor Antares, Half-Elf Cleric of Desna
-Korinee Bryden, Human Arcanist (White Mage)
-Rufus Fitzroi, Human Cavalier (Standard Bearer)
-Xelani Fyodorova, Half-Elf Paladin (Divine Hunter) of Erastil

Party one, please report to the Discussion thread. Group two can check in here.

At any rate, thanks to everyone for trying, and for putting the effort in. This was not an easy call.

Alright guys, everyone settle in. You have the day to make any changes to your sheet or work anything out. Gameplay will start tomorrow.

Dot here.

Private recruitment for those chosen. Nothing to see here.

And Cuan, just slipping in by a nose. Recruitment is now over. Parties will be selected after I've made supper, which I am going to do now.

Time is all I've got.

We're twenty minutes to the likely deadline and I already have some rough ideas kicking around. If you are watching this thread and frantically finishing an application then post in the next twenty minutes or time is going to be up.

If there are drops then I'll go looking for replacements, but as stated, they won't really be compatible. Kingdom roles might overlap, and I fully expect that as time goes on the two parties will be out of synch as either post rate between one group is faster than the other, or they decide to do things in different orders and at different levels of intensity. It's not really doable.

So, I've started looking over everyone's applications in more depth and really starting to think on things so that as I make supper I can start putting the pieces together. And I realized that it'd be kind of hell on earth, so I have good news and sorta bad news.

Good news is, I'll be taking two different parties. Unlike the "two groups working in tandem" campaign Rufus talked about earlier in the thread, these groups will be run under completely different tables.

Bad news is there's still a few applications I like that two six player parties won't leave enough room for.

I'm always torn on where to go with constructing a party for roleplaying synergies. Almost all the meatspace games I've DMed have had couples who make complementary characters (not necessarily lovers, but usually friends or family or just something that lets them click well together), but it's always the unlikely interactions between the other characters that I find more interesting. It puts characters into positions they weren't built or expected to be in. That's where I think roleplay really opens up to be interesting; a group that mechanically fits together well, but have to make it work in a narrative and personal sense.

Like I told said in the post, I can't see on your profile where either your background or character sheet are, and they weren't in your post. The list is of finished applications, and yours is not finished.

Alright, looks like tonight will be decision time. It's currently noon over here, so I'll give until this evening for everyone to finish any submissions they have. Let's say roughly 6-7 PM EDT will be the deadline, and then I'll make my selections shortly afterward.

@Ioran: I'm not seeing a link in the profile anywhere to a background or character sheet.

@Viluki: Not sure there's time for us to RP out something ahead of recruitment if it's likely to end tomorrow night, so go ahead and write it, I guess.

@Karsh: Inquisitor is 3/4s BAB and has a pretty versatile skill list, with several class features that enhance choice skills. It could fit into Martial, but it fits the possibility of "sorta skill monkey capable of bringing the hurt" that lets it be viable as a party's skill character.

I'm really surprised by the skill scarcity too.

Ugh, posted that on the wrong alias. For some reason it won't go into the right default alias for me.

@Karsh: Martial classes are classes focused on the hitting of things. Mostly full BAB, but Magus and Warpriest also go there because they don't provide full spellcasting and mostly have combat purposes. Counting Warpriest under Divine could lead to me taking one as the sole divine member of a party, and having Cleric-lite with 2/3rds spellcasting. Same with Magus; getting someone with access to six levels of blasting spells and little utility magic.

Skill is for pretty much the classes you named, except for Slayer. Slayer is full BAB, and even with a respectable amount of skill ranks is still mostly the combat stuff out of Rogue slapped onto a spell-less Ranger. Inquisitor is also a skill class, being Divine Bard and all.

Arcane and Divine are for full spellcasters, for obvious reasons.

They fit into the very classic party structure of Hit-Stuff Person, wizard, cleric, and thief, but are more open than that. It's a handy classification to use so that when I do the party selections, I'm picking at least one person from each of those roles to have a well-rounded, capable group.

Interest has started slowing down considerably, and I imagine it's only going to continue on this path. Is anyone watching the thread who would object to me choosing the party on Sunday evening? I don't think we'll need a full week, but if someone really does need that time, please say so now. Plenty of dots from Wednesday that haven't been followed up on yet.

Ruler will indeed be handled through roleplay, because while it might be "cleaner" to determine it beforehand, it definitely loses out on a lot of roleplaying opportunities. But like I've said previously, if anyone makes it ugly,

@Rufus: Whoops, missed your other question; we'll be using the new stuff from Ultimate Campaign. It's a lot of new stuff, and a few changes that apparently needed to be made (I heard a friend's story about their Kingmaker campaign where, due to how the rules were previously, the majority of their kingdom was made of graveyards).

Arcane:
-Ray "Demon Caller" Remiar, Human
-Histran Thrael Anders Lebeda, Samsaran Arcanist
-Cysgood Dewin, Half-Elf Bonded Witch
-Ansha Saeralyn, Elf Wizard (Manipulator)
-Korinne Bryden, Human Arcanist (White Mage)
-Naralesh, Elf Wizard (Teleporter)

Divine:
-Castor Antares, Half-Elf Cleric of Desna
-Toran Fate-Touched, Angelkin Aasimar Oracle of Battle (Dual-Cursed)
-Avery Starr, Human Cleric of Uskyreia

Martial:
-Hadin Cassoren, Human Paladin of Erastil
-Xelani Fyodorova, Half-Elf Paladin (Divine Hunter) of Erastil
-Wetscale, Lizardfolk Flowing Monk
-Hrane Throrson, Dwarf Ranger
-Linora Avedra, Human Cavalier (Daring Champion)
-Dregan Hirscherz, Human Ranger
-Tyce Bennet, Human Brawler (Snakebite, Strangler)
-Rufus Fitzroi, Human Cavalier (Standard Bearer)
-Daen Aheritor, Half-Elf Magus (Kensai)
-Lucius Baradain, Human Fighter

Skill:
-Alayini Eraya, Ifrit Bard (Dervish Dancer)
-Paddy Finn, Human Rogue

Everyone please go look at the other roles that your characters' main stats could let you fulfill, because I really don't want this to be "leader and then grumbling people reluctantly in other spots they don't really know what to do in".

@Rufus: I prefer only one per person. Easier for me to mentally juggle everything.

@Wetscale: All I need to make my decisions are backstory and a rough idea of what the character can do. It's okay if not everything is set in stone days in advanced.

@Castor: Irnk said they were submitting a cavalier, and did so. If he'd rather try with Iacobus then that would be fine, but I didn't see anything to say he was.

@Castor: The problem I see with it is that you have a limited amount of space to explore through the campaign, and there will be times when, due to the whole "running a kingdom" thing you guys'll be doing as the game progresses, you'll be required to stay in a place for one reason or another, and during those segments you will be constantly Fatigued.

Arcane:
-Ray "Demon Caller" Remiar, Human
-Histran Thrael Anders Lebeda, Samsaran Arcanist
-Cysgood Dewin, Half-Elf Bonded Witch
-Ansha Saeralyn, Elf Wizard (Manipulator)
-Korinne Bryden, Human Arcanist (White Mage)
-Naralesh, Elf Wizard (Teleporter)

Divine:
-Castor Antares, Half-Elf Cleric of Desna
-Toran Fate-Touched, Angelkin Aasimar Oracle of Battle (Dual-Cursed)

Martial:

-Lucius Baradain, Human Fighter

Skill:
-Alayini Eraya, Ifrit Bard (Dervish Dancer)
-Paddy Finn, Human Rogue

@Castor: Spherewalker's official, so no need to even run it by me.

Yes, having the proficiency at all is sufficient to qualify for it; technically all proficiencies are "feats", we just don't usually record them as such from classes because it gets cluttered.

The alloted land the charter allows you to explore only goes ~93 miles diagonally (60x72 miles) but that's one of those fluff requirements I'd be more than fine with having your backstory justify, should you wish, because the campaign is one that, while very exploration-based, does not cover vast stretches of the continent and allow you to achieve that sort of requirement. Visting some place in your youth that's about 150 miles in the other direction would be acceptable.

As for BAB and saves, I take them as each level goes; Spherewalker 1 would not progress your BAB in any way.

@Ansha: Whoops. And yes, should your companions be willing to spend an hour on that, it will suffice, at least until your fledgling kingdom has the required resources for carousing to be a more feasible passtime.

@therealthom: That's the idea, actually. The characters are divided up to hit the general roles, but with a six character party obviously I'll be double-dipping into two of the categories, and in that case characters within the same role who are very different can definitely coexist.

@redbeardredeyed: Looks fine to me, so go for it.

Also, newly updated roster. If you're missing, either you haven't yet submitted a backstory (which is the more important part of selection than your crunch) or I'm tired and missed it, in which case just poke at me and I will fix that.

Arcane:
-Ray "Demon Caller" Remiar, Human
-Histran Thrael Anders Lebeda, Samsaran Arcanist
-Cysgood Dewin, Half-Elf Bonded Witch
-Asha Saeralyn, Elf Wizard (Manipulator)
-Korinne Bryden, Human Arcanist (White Mage)
-Naralesh, Elf Wizard (Teleporter)

Divine:
-Castor Antares, Half-Elf Cleric of Desna

Martial:
-Hadin Cassoren, Human Paladin of Erastil
-Xelani Fyodorova, Half-Elf Paladin (Divine Hunter) of Erastil
-Wetscale, Lizardfolk Flowing Monk
-Hrane Throrson, Dwarf Ranger
-Linora Avedra, Human Cavalier (Daring Champion)
-Dregan Hirscherz, Human Ranger
-Tyce Bennet, Human Brawler (Snakebite, Strangler)
-Rufus Fitzroi, Human Cavalier (Standard Bearer)
-Daen Aheritor, Half-Elf Magus (Kensai)

Skill:
-Alayini Eraya, Ifrit Bard (Dervish Dancer)
-Paddy Finn, Human Rogue

Sounds like an interesting way to go, but even if it might draw progress out a touch longer, I feel like just running the party through a game would be easier. Too many dicks on the dance floor and it gets a bit muddled. Also, the workload. No thanks.

I'd definitely like for the kingdom rules to get use though, since it's the only AP where that really comes into play in a major capacity. But if arguments turn ugly then I'm not above kicking people who can't play nice out of the game.

Just because in-combat channeling would be a nightmare otherwise, I tend to go by that houserule as well. I do require Selective Channeling for it, though; fallen enemies are just free selections.

The file version of my list has been modified.

I am currently i lvl 1 cavern sniper and lvl 1 rogue. I took rogue to get the trap sense and extra sneak and sneak atk at a range. I want to know if it is possible to take a class that sets up traps or maybe even makes turrets out of hand or heavy crossbows? and advice would help thank you to all replies and good hunting.

I am currently in a homemade module with three (soon to be four) other adventurers. I am a drow cavern sniper and im dedicating my first three levels of feats i get into getting greater drow nobility. After that however i want to try to move into a trapmaster type class so i can lay mines turrets ect to make it harder for the enemies to close the distence on me. My question is would it be possible to have some/close to the abilities that the demon hunter in diablo 3 has?

I'm starting a new adventure with some friends and after they picked all of what they wanted i noticed that we have no healer in the group. I know that the GM can fill that role with NPCs or wands but i want to give healing a try. I picked a summoner and was going to be a master summoner but our Gm said no because it was to powerful. So my question is would there be any way to make a healing summoner?

So I'm passing GMing to a player and now I'm not sure if i should make a healer to fill the spot or make a new one i want to go battle healer focusing on damage but still able to heal for enough to keep a group alive any ideas?

Hello everyone I'm starting a new adventure with some friends and i want a very good defensive class. we are starting at 4th lvl and my rolls landed as follows (note i did not place stats yet)
18, 18, 16, 14, 11, 11
I just want a very defensive class that can hold its own any help would be awesome. I'm leaning toward stalwart defender if there is a way to spec into this please let me know thanks.

Hello everyone like i said in the title a couple of friends and i just started playing the game and are all at 2nd level (our DM is also a first timer). I was just wondering on this.

I have a Ranger already which i have a generally good grasp on how to use so for now no questions there.

My questions start with the Druid i just made (In case my ranger dies just a backup PC) i rolled the stats and spected him for having a animal companion and the race i choose was a half ling so i wanted to have the ability to mount said pet so as not to slow down the party. I was going to go with an Ape or Cheetah but our DM isn't sure how that would translate toward riding it. the PC only weighs about 30lbs so i would assume it would be no biggy just need some advice from people who know what they are doing. Thanks in advance!!!
