Accidentally deleted my post instead of editing the url correctly. Isn’t that nice.

Praetorix here is a LE antipaladin, yes, but that stems from her being willing to do what is necessary to protect the masses from the corruption these vile cults spread. Called to Mendev by her order, she has arrived to put an end to this cult of Orcus, with mostly violence.

Her appearance inside of her specially crafted Hellknight armor.

Combat role is a reach tank with the ability to survive a lot of different things. Very high survivability.

Don’t worry, she’s not a PC killer. Her Tyrant code lets her work with people of any alignment, as long as they help fulfill her ultimate goal: purging heretics from this plane of existence.

Female Dhampir, Moroi-born

"That does seem to be the easiest course of action remaining." Prae says, observing just about everything in the room.

"Let's see if those weapons and armor are magical, take what we feel is necessary, and then depart as soon as we can."

Female Dhampir, Moroi-born

I honestly have no idea how Prae can be useful in this fight. Anyone have any suggestions?

Female Dhampir, Moroi-born

Prae stands back the entire time his companions are conversing with the creature, but that changed upon seeing the woman murdered in front of him.

Normally, death does not affect him, but this was just that: murder for no apparent reason. He had been sent here to solve this town's problems, and its citizens being murdered for the strange rites of someone obviously outside the church.

"You! As an agent of the Umbral Court, I hereby place you under arrest! Go quietly, and all will be well."
With that, he murmurs a short prayer to the Midnight Lord, obviously demonstrating how much he believed the creature would surrender.

Casting Divine Favor, and moving closer to the creature and symbol.

Female Dhampir, Moroi-born

"Well, beyond the fact that I am particularly skilled at the candles' intended use..."

Prae meets Hawkren's eyes with an unreadable stare, and he suddenly stands up and wraps his spiked chain around his hands again.

"Keep it close by." Prae responds abruptly, before taking a quick look around at his companions.

"Yes, let us continue. Before we go, however, is anyone injured?"

Female Dhampir, Moroi-born

Apologies, some college work caught me off guard. Back now!

Bending over the deceased body, Prae made his conclusion fairly quickly.
"This woman....was not worthy. She attempted, or was forced, to house a vessel of shadow for which she did not maintain the correct level of faith. It killed her."

Prae then looks around while kneeled down, trying to find any sort of evidence of a ritual or similar practice that would bring something like these shadow beings to this world.
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27

Upon hearing there's a Candle of Truth down here, the dhampir looks up eagerly and speaks aloud to the group.
"Oh, there's a Candle of Truth? Why, that would certainly help out our investigation. Perhaps I should take it into my possession, should I have need of it?"

Female Dhampir, Moroi-born

"Fortunately, there is someone here more skilled at anatomy."
With no further explanation than that, Praetorix makes his way over to the body carefully before inspecting it.

Heal: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19

"Perhaps it is this 'tallowthroat' we've heard so much about. Isn't tallow often used in making candles? I must admit that is out of my area of expertise."

Female Dhampir, Moroi-born

As the cloud dissipates in front of him, a slightly regretful look crosses Prae's face, and is noticeable for those looking, but it quickly passes as he refocuses on the task at hand.

"Let us continue to look for the knowledge we seek here, yes?"

Female Dhampir, Moroi-born

Necril:
"I truly did attempt to find you a better home, creature of darkness. a pity you made the wrong choice."

"T'ila iyewanyu ye’irisiwoni iniba irigifi!"

Shadowtongue:
"Abandon your tears, spawn of shadow!

Spend a standard action to cast Divine Favor, giving me a +2 on attack and damage rolls for a minute.
Is there a way we could get some sort of map? Or at least a description of a "mind-map"?

By her assessment, if she hesitates but one moment Praetorix might die.

As much as you (and I, for that matter) don't want that to happen, Prae would be pretty okay with going out that way.

Female Dhampir, Moroi-born

@Zon-Kuthon: well, out of the three "old players", one worships Z-K (Prae), one wants to learn everything about him (Dario), and the last couldn't care less (Zaitherin). So that's like one and a half of the original party. Take that as you will.

@This encounter:
:I want to clarify that I never intended to end it through the sacrifice of anyone, at least not voluntarily. Part of Zon-Kuthon's "unique" (gotta be careful here) beliefs is the idea that pain inflicted on another with their express permission is the most sacred form of worship.

Having these undead cloud thingies (because apparently there's two; I missed that in the original description) move to the basement of the temple of Z-K in Pangolais was a wonderful chance for Prae to take a real step towards providing such a service to everyone in the church.
I apologize if my actions, taken in the interest of following his character, have offended anyone, for I did not mean to.

Female Dhampir, Moroi-born

Well...that's not how I envisioned things going....my bad everyone!

Female Dhampir, Moroi-born

Hey guys, just a quick thought.

If the current plan of action Prae has in mind is going to be an actual problem, then I have no problem with putting it behind us, as a player. Prae will obviously still be upset, but he can deal.
I had no idea that among the new recruits would be a member of the Shelyn faithful, but we too will deal.

It's going to bring up some interesting roleplay scenes, I think.

Female Dhampir, Moroi-born

"I am merely trying to get it to wait here until we are done with our investigations, and then relocate to the temple in Pangolais when I return."

"If you believe me to be only to be concerned about this town, then I am afraid we have had a bit of a miscommunication. I also aim to discover the source of this town malady, and if this creature turns out to be it, the Court would be very interested in studying it further."

Female Dhampir, Moroi-born

"I'm trying to convince it to leave this place peacefully, preferably without eating one of us in a sacrifice."

He answers, not taking his eyes off of the cloud.

"Any other questions?"

Female Dhampir, Moroi-born

Oh yeah, I forgot it was Ina spoiler! Whoops. Well, Prae would tell the group that.

Prae quickly holds a gloved hand up to the party, motioning for them to stop.
"It can understand me. Wait while I speak with it."

Necril:
"Pray tell, is there no other way? For my companions do not share the same ideologies I do, and would not likely agree upon your terms. However, I know of a temple of Zon-Kuthin in the capital of this very nation that would be blessed to receive your attention. I myself would likely visit your touch upon my flesh before I return to Pangolais."

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (10) + 12 = 22
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13

Female Dhampir, Moroi-born

Wait, it's asking us to sacrifice one of my companions to it? As in, let it kill them? I don't think it'd be conducive to party morale if I did that. although, one of the two missing characters from before could "volunteer" themselves. Thoughts?

Female Dhampir, Moroi-born

"Stay your weapons! This creature of shadow is quite holy to our church, and I would approach it before resorting to combat."

Prae quickly moved down the ladder, trying to get himself as close to the cloud as possible before his companions began beating the glorious thing.

As he moves closer, he extends his arms towards the creature, as if in worship, his spiked chain wrapped tightly around them. Strange sounds begin to emanate from his mouth, as if he was establishing communication.

Necril:
"Can you understand me, creature of darkness? What are you doing down here, where no one can admire your glory?"

Female Dhampir, Moroi-born

"Ooh, how delightful, it's undead!" Prae calls out, loud enough for everyone to hear him.

"Although I've never seen an undead quite like this one..."

Knowledge (Religion): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10

Female Dhampir, Moroi-born

Hmm, weird. I have Deathwatch Eyes, are they living, undead, or neither?

Female Dhampir, Moroi-born

Standing at the top of the ladder, not having deigned to descend into the basement, Prae calls out to those below.

"So? Is it this chandler we've heard so much about?"

Female Dhampir, Moroi-born

To Lluvia:
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (10) + 10 = 20
Prae senses that she's telling the truth, and nods quietly.

"You have my blessing, so long as you don't cause any trouble. There will likely be some moment in time when we have solved this mystery and I no longer require your assistance. Up until that point, we shall work together to take this threat down."

In response to Krasimir:

"You and I both know of the tensions between our religions; it is within my right to be suspicious of one such as yourself following Shelyn. That being said, I do believe it is in our best interest to figure out what is at the center of this unrest, and I will not turn down any aid at doing so. For now, we are not enemies."

To everyone:
"Lluvia, what kind of trap do you think it is? Does it threaten us all, or just you?"

Female Dhampir, Moroi-born

"Nothing is illegal as far as the investigation of the Umbral Court is concerned, friend." Prae replies coolly, eyeing the even newer-newcomer.

"I see you openly bear the sign of the Dark Prince's sister. Perhaps you would care to explain that?"

Found what I think is a better representation of Prae for his profile pic. Thoughts?

Female Dhampir, Moroi-born

Technically,

Inner Sea World Guide wrote:
Nidal is a monotheistic theocracy ruled by a hereditary aristocracy who receive a direct divine mandate from a single god: Zon-Kuthon. It is therefore not hard to imagine that all other religions are banned there, although they are still practiced in secret.

So, all other religions are banned, officially. In practice, as long as you don't go around causing significant problems in the name of Shelyn (and keep it on the down-low), we should be fine.

Female Dhampir, Moroi-born

Having wanted to assess the skills of the newcomers, Prae had intentionally abstained from battle, watching and observing his impromptu test and the participants therein.

Now, finally stepping forward, he addresses a point brought up by dear Hawkren earlier.

"The power of the Umbral Court is absolute in Nidal, or did you not recognize this? I suggest you watch your tongue around its agents, especially when it comes to accusing them of any sort of illicit behavior not backed by the full power of the Court."

Bluff to pass 'secret' message, DC 20: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (17) + 15 = 32

Hawkren, or DC 32 Sense Motive only:
Prae is in fact an agent of the Umbral Court, and a rather powerful one at that, at least for a dhampir. And he is legitimately telling you to watch your tongue, as he doesn't take those sorts of accusations lightly. Be careful, friend, for you are now on his distrust list. And in Nidal? No one wants the Court's distrust.

Just a little in-character, in-party stress!

"Oh, dear Professor, you mention the Sarenrites? Their flashy style and shiny baubles are not too welcome here, nor is the sun of their goddess. But I have yet to meet a Sarenrite that meant me fell intent, so perhaps we shall get along fine as long as you keep their 'healing hands' of yours to yourself."

He laughs coldly, one hand reaching down to scratch the back of Shadow's neck as he speaks.

"But, enough talk of that. I do believe my old friend is right, there should be someone here who will tell us some part of what is happening here."

Female Dhampir, Moroi-born

Ah! Sorry! College is an unforgiving mistress.

Luckily, my schedule has solidified, and I should be able to be much more consistent from here on out, should the GM wish to have me back!

Female Dhampir, Moroi-born

Have you truly enjoyed him being a Kuthite? I must admit, I did have my doubts at first.

Female Dhampir, Moroi-born

Hey guys!

Somehow, the little "X new posts" part beside his campaign was turned off, and I've just been patiently waiting for the longest time for this to update, without realizing it was continuing without me!

That being said, I would like to simply rejoin the group and continue, although I certainly understand if you want me to go through the recruiting process again.

Thanks!

Female Dhampir, Moroi-born

"Well, it seems like we're done here for now....Baron." Prae said, uncertain as to the Baron's health.

"Thinking we'll be taking a visit to that Chandlery you mentioned. There shouldn't be any trouble there, should there?" he asks pointedly.

Female Dhampir, Moroi-born

Ignoring the Baron's rude words, Prae immediately heads over to the book that fluttered open, pushing past the Baron if need be.

"And what have we here?"

Female Dhampir, Moroi-born

"May I see the dead staff members' body? I would like to examine it for signs of the disease." Prae says bluntly, not caring to use any niceties.

"Or have you already disposed of it?"

Female Dhampir, Moroi-born

Sorry I haven't posted, my bad.

"I, personally, think you are hiding something, dear Baron. While I am here to determine what is happening in this...place, I have been instructed to aid the people of Karpad to the best of my ability. And to do that, we need your cooperation."

"Now, why don't you tell us what's going on here?"

Female Dhampir, Moroi-born

Prae steps up to the closed door after the outburst and following sounds, and knocked quietly at it.

"I don't think you understand, Baron. We will be getting in, one way or another, to ask you a few questions. Opening the door and letting us in would make all of this much easier....on you."

Intimidate: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30

Female Dhampir, Moroi-born

Although "rude" doesn't fit as well as "rude via not being concerned". He really doesn't see any difference between fetchlings, humans, and dhampirs, but if leaving her out here leads to getting this resolved, then he'll leave her out here. Including Delyn, if need be.

Female Dhampir, Moroi-born

Prae responds to the majordomo calmly.
"The Court has interests in all corners of Nidal. Do not question their wisdom, as it is infinite."

He looks back at the elf, having already stepped inside of the building.
"We have all been subject to discrimination, elf. We have work to do." he says, turning back towards the inside of the mansion.

Sorry if he's rude, but he's rude. His religion is outlawed in most of the Inner Sea, confined to small rituals in corner altars. He doesn't really respond to discrimination much any more.

Female Dhampir, Moroi-born

Prae calmly endures the mistake of identity and the following disrespect before quietly unraveling his spiked chain to hang down from his hands, and holding his unholy symbol out with the other hand.

"While I may not want to have business with the 'Master', the Umbral Court certainly does. Get the Baron and let him know Inquisitor Davonte is here on behalf of the Court."

Intimidate: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27

Female Dhampir, Moroi-born

"We shall reserve judgement until proof is found. I was not there, I can not believe the fetchlings are innocent based on your word alone."
Prae says calmly, his voice not betraying any emotion.

"Now, let's go visit this 'Baron' and see what he has to say for himself."

Female Dhampir, Moroi-born

Also still here. Missed your last post, my bad!

Female Dhampir, Moroi-born

"Thank you, father, for all you have done. Continue your work, for the Umbral Court appreciates your faith."

With those words, he turns away from the father and his companion, and begins to walk out of the temple.

"Come, that is what we will do. This Baron needs to answer a few...questions."

Female Dhampir, Moroi-born

Sorry, guys! School just ended and I'm home now, so my posting rate will increase dramatically.

Female Dhampir, Moroi-born

Prae bends his head reverently as the woman passed, knowing she had been given a blessing. Seeing his companions' reaction was disappointing to him, as he had almost come to see the half-elf as a convert, misguided though he may be.

"Dario, be more respectful. That woman has received quite the gift from our Lord, and it is not to be disdained."

He looks up at the temple, his eyes searching for anything amiss.
"It is certainly bigger than most temples in the Inner Sea, although the ones in Pangolais dwarf it in size and magnificence. I wonder if this poor priest has ever visited a true holy site to Zon-Kuthon."

Drawing closer to the priest outside, Prae drew his spiked chain, and wrapped it around both of his arms and extended them towards the man, a ritual of greeting he had been taught by the church.
Completely made-up. There isn't a lot of actual informations about specific rituals performed by Kuthites beyond "inflict pain", so I'm gonna make some up. Hope that's okay!

He is oddly silent, waiting for the priest to respond to Dario's questions before introducing himself. He wanted to see if his story would differ after he told who he truly was.

Female Dhampir, Moroi-born

"Now that that's settled, let's move on with it, Dario. Come, Shadow. We have much to learn here yet."

He then heads off towards where the temple is located, assuming that he can either see it from here, or was given direction by the Captain.

Female Dhampir, Moroi-born

Prae quite honestly doesn't care about escorting the fetchlings back at all.

Heading to the Manir to search for the Baron and going to the temple of Zon-Kuthon are his two main priorities.
Obviously, he is patient, so he will give the group the necessary time if they insist on taking the fetchlings back personally.

Female Dhampir, Moroi-born

Sorry if Prae seems selfish or rude at some times...he kinda is.
He really only cares about his orders from the Court: figure out what's happening and stop it.

I hope y'all understand that I'm just playing Prae as he should be, and not trying to actually be rude or anything.

Female Dhampir, Moroi-born

Assuming it's a disease, as dhampir have a +2 vs. disease.
Fortitude: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29
And I needed none of that bonus.

"Careful, my dear friend", he says to Dario, "I wouldn't want you to be tainted with this...disease of his."
Prae makes sure to make eye contact one more time with the Captain, ensuring the man knows that he's not exactly pleased with how he's acted.

"May your suffering lead to further understanding." he says simply, as a farewell.

Stepping aside from the rest of the group, Prae seems uninterested in the fate of the fetchlings, but prepares himself to leave with them nonetheless.
"Shadow, guard these fetchlings." he commands, absently waving his hand towards the trio.
"Let's get on with it, then. We have things to...investigate here."

Female Dhampir, Moroi-born

Prae nods towards Dario, and continues his questioning of the Captain, specifically on the disease he has contracted.

Heal: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20

"I happen to know a bit more about the body and what ails it. Perhaps you could describe your symptoms to me? And when did you first notice them?"
He's no true doctor, but he does understand the workings of the body.

Female Dhampir, Moroi-born

That, uhh, worked...? Cool!

Prae didn't respond to the crowd, as he was used to the response, and his hands and pose shifted to reflect that he was back in control of the situation.

"We will need to talk to the Baron, of course. Where can he be found?"
Upon mention of the plague spreading, Prae takes a noticeable step back, but stays close enough to be heard.
"And what of this plague? What are the symptoms? Is it deadly?"

Female Dhampir, Moroi-born

Prae listened to the chaos around him, and prepared his response to the Captain.

"You see, fine sir, you actually asked if there was any of those 'shadow-licking friends' in attendance today. And, as the Umbral Court itself dispatched me to assess the situation of unrest here, I presume I would fall under that category."

His words are calm and cool, yet still loud enough to be heard over any noise the crowd is making.

"It appears that this small town has many problems that require attention, and the Court has been so generous as to provide my assistance in restoring order here. So why don't you let our shadowy friends here down, and let me investigate the situation properly?"

Definitely using Intimdate at this point.
Intimidate: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (14) + 12 = 26

Female Dhampir, Moroi-born

Having just arrived with his new...acquaintance, Dario, Prae witnessed the scene with a sense of disgust.
Assuming they're fetch kings...?
These creatures were blessed with the touch of the Lord's shadows, they must not be punished like this without fair reason.

"Come, Dario. We are called upon to intervene."
Drawing his dark cloak closer to him and gripping the handle of his spiked chain, he begins to move towards the ramshackle gallows, slipping his way through the crowd until he was standing directly in front of the stage.

"And what, pray tell, have these poor souls done to you, exactly?" his voice rings out surprisingly loud for one so non-assuming, attempting to draw the attention of the crowd.

Female Dhampir, Moroi-born

"Yeah....just be sure to keep those 'healing hands' away from me. I can take care of my own wounds, thank you."

Dhampir!
