It wasn't his fault that people lost things. And, they should be thankful that Podo was around to find them, and keep them safe, till they needed them again. I mean after all if they didn't ask for them back pretty quick they didn't really want them afterall. Right? First there was the Incident in Dyvers, the city of his birth. His parents served on the staff of a fine merchant family in this city. How was Podo supposed to know that those earrings were for the Merchant lords daughters 16th birthday. If he hadn't found them in that cupboard they probably would have never found them, especially wrapped up and hidden in that paper. And he did give them back... but he had to leave. His folks sent him to live with his Uncle Amosk in Greyhawk at the tender age of 14. Greyhawk was a fascinating city, and held much adventure for the young halfling. His uncle ran a Amosk's Pies and Tarts in Greyhawk. Though he missed his immediate family life was exciting enough, and he had plenty of pie... but still in this city people lost stuff all the time. They should have felt fortunate that someone so good at finding things as Podo was around, but no. In the winter of his 19th year, he came home one day to find the city watch berating his Uncle. "I swear I don't know where the little scamp is. I haven't seen him since late yesterday afternoon. Of course you can look in his room, we've nothing to hide". Then a few minutes later, the guards came out with his hope chest, and a bag of his found items. The last thing he saw as he ran from the scene as quickly as he could was the guard hauling his Uncle off in chains. I guess it's agains the law for people to lose things, and even more so for me to find them. I'd better make myself scarce. Later that night he snuck back into his uncles shop, and left a note about how he was the one who found all the things, and that his Uncle knew nothing about it. Now what was he to do, and where was he to go. He must find somewhere, that appreciated someone who was good at finding things.

GM Jiggy wrote: Uh... Your profile looks a lot more like a ranger than a rogue, and somehow has a starting feat despite not being a human. Are you in the process of retooling that alias from a different character or something? Yes. I had already completely updated him when Chrome crashed. I have to quit for a bit, but didn't want to lose what I'd already changed. Just Cut & pasted another 5E character for the format.
Had Podo all finished, then Chrome shut down, and I lost all my changes. I've started updating him again, and hope to finish this evening. Meantime here is the placeholder. I'll work on the background more, but basically he worked for a real schyster... POS, but didn't realize it until the man was arrested. He served as his Assistant (son), and learned how to play the part, but while his master had a dark heart, Podo was basically good... he just can't keep himself from launching into his Charlatan role every now and then.

Podo dons the robe, and begins to prance about his head held high. He heads for the nearest party member. "I shall require tribute from you or my loyal executioner shall surely see to your demise". He nods his head at Gnobby as he speaks. "Prepare the executioner's axe".

1d100 ⇒ 2 Find Traps (51%) Podo longs to hop down the big steps, and see what is at the bottom, but some bad memories, and a couple of scars make him hesitate in caution. He decides to "look before he leaps".

Podo is halfway down the staircase when he hears the voices of reason from above. He stops for a moment, his anxiousness to see what is down here warring with the voice above, then with a sigh he retreats back up the staircase to join the others...That is if nothing got him halfway down...

Podo confident that Gnobby will tell him if they're anything dangerous, steps up to the door closest to him, and checks to see if it is locked. If so he will attempt to pick the lock. 1d100 ⇒ 81 Disarm Traps (61%) If necessary

Well in my lost in space post Podo actually made his find traps roll, and grabbed the dagger to keep anyone from accidentally cutting themselves...But we'll just pretend that he fell asleep and dreamed that :-). Podo silently acknowledges Gnobby's suggestion, and searches around his side for anything unusual. 1d20 ⇒ 12 search 1d6 ⇒ 4 or 1d6 search. Got to check my book. "You sure you don't want me to hold that dagger Gnobby". "I wouldn't want you to cut yourself".

"I guess we could just wait till one of them comes out, and borrow his key". suggests Podo. "Then maybe one of you tall folk could take his robes and just lead us all in". Podo smiles, then reaches into one of his sacks, and pulls forth his cultist robe from the moathouse. "Would this help"?

Podo cheerfully skips down the stairs to the common room, and sees a couple of his friends already there. The innkeeper notices him, and hollers to the back..."I'll need that baker dozen of meat pies now"! "So what are we going to do now"? "Time to go find some more stuff"?

Sir Galavaine of Verbobonc wrote: "Good to see you Podo. You look fine. No problems here I'd guess. So what have you found out about Nulb and the Temple?" he clasps the little man's shoulder in greeting. "It is so good to see you all again". "Why is everybody being so secret"? "I almost hollared out loud when I saw you and the elves come in". "Well Nulb is not as boring as Hommlett, but the pies aren't as good either". "I'm more used to the type of people that hang out here...bargemen, and their ilk, and there seem to be a lot more people just passing through". "But, it's not like there's murder in the streets every night". "It's been good practice finding things here, though most of the time I return them...just in different places". "You should have seen the look on the Bartenders face when he found his boots, on the roof of the blacksmiths shack".
Male Halfling - Stout; AC-19/16/14, HP 9, CMB -1, CMD 14 Rogue / 1; Init +4, PER +6, F+2, R+7, W+1
Podo is almost beside himself with joy at the arrival of his friends. He can't wait to hear their tales but as they seem to be all secretive he'll wait and see what they're up to. He does give a great beaming smile to any that look his way however...he just can't help it he's so happy.

DM
Spoiler: Podo will indeed make a pilgrimage to Nulb, but will only stay out of the way and observe, and do his best to not draw attention. Just get the lay of the town, and any rumors he might overhear. He will be sure to leave word with the innkeep as to where he is going, and when he plans on returning.
Male Halfling - Stout; AC-19/16/14, HP 9, CMB -1, CMD 14 Rogue / 1; Init +4, PER +6, F+2, R+7, W+1
I haven't figured out how much Podo has at the moment, but he is saving up for something big...don't know what yet, he's just a tightwad... Having said that the idea of making money while it just sits there appeals to Podo. However in his spirit he would negotiate for 5%, as Adventuring is a high risk job, and Sallandrya might not be around to repay him. [But if she sweet talks him he will lend her the money at 4%] One thing I liked about old school, is that every city wasn't a magic item store. Except for potions, and scrolls, you basically had to find magic items, so I'm just going to play Podo that way.
Male Halfling - Stout; AC-19/16/14, HP 9, CMB -1, CMD 14 Rogue / 1; Init +4, PER +6, F+2, R+7, W+1
Podo shivers at the thought of returning to Verbobonc. "I'm happy right here...besides someone needs to make sure the town is safe, what with Rufus, and Burne getting old and decrepit you know". "Maybe I can make a trip to Nulb, and scout things out while you're gone". "If not, I'll do everything I can to deplete the town's supply of pies".
Male Halfling - Stout; AC-19/16/14, HP 9, CMB -1, CMD 14 Rogue / 1; Init +4, PER +6, F+2, R+7, W+1
Podo drunk with all the adoration passing in his direction...as well as all the ale he's washing down pies with frowns as Gnobby seems to be putting down more pies than he. This has never happened...adventuring must be bad for you. At the mention of going to Verbobonc, he pales a bit..."Well we can't all go there and leave our stuff unattended". "I'll be glad to volunteer to stay here and keep an eye on our stuff, as well as protect the town. I've decided that Verbobonc is the perfect city for Podo to have left in "haste".
Male Halfling - Stout; AC-19/16/14, HP 9, CMB -1, CMD 14 Rogue / 1; Init +4, PER +6, F+2, R+7, W+1
Podo embraces the adoration of his fans, and regales anyone who will listen with embellished tales of their adventurers, and especially his role in the adventures, while gleefully stuffing himself with meat pies.
Male Halfling - Stout; AC-19/16/14, HP 9, CMB -1, CMD 14 Rogue / 1; Init +4, PER +6, F+2, R+7, W+1
"Yes". "Let's go back to Hommlet". "I'm hungry". Podo absentmindedly at some time while they are standing around will take out the goblet and examine it, smelling it to see if any vestiges remain. He will also take out the Alabaster box, shaking it for content, and opening, after making sure it's not booby trapped.
Male Halfling - Stout; AC-19/16/14, HP 9, CMB -1, CMD 14 Rogue / 1; Init +4, PER +6, F+2, R+7, W+1
Podo is busy playing dress up again, girding himself in finery. And in his best refined noble voice replies to Gnobby's statement. "Oh Really, my dear boy". "It appears that you're still little to me". He then throws a handful of silver on the rich bed coverings, making darn sure he knows how many, and where each landed. "Someone bring me some eggs...large rotten ones preferably".
